What music are you exposing your grandchildren to or plan to?

My grandbaby is almost 5 and has figured out how to use my Amazon echo to play music. She asked A to play the lollipop 🍭 song and A played the version by The Chordettes from 1950. 70 years before she was born and 17 before I was born. I am exposing her to the music my silent generation mother exposed me to and EVERYTHING I grew up with. Her mother (young millennial) is exposing her to 90s and 2000s music. I hope everyday that she grows up with an eclectic taste and exposure to all kinds of music. That music invigorates her very core. How about you?

My 9 yo daughter (no grandkids!) currently loves Bad Brains and De La Soul. I’m proud of her!

I was born one year after the beginning of Generation X and my son isn't even out of college. Am I really that behind on grandchildren?
Fit_Subject_3256@reddit
Not at all! I’m a 54 yo Gen Xer and I gave a 9 yo daughter - no grandkids

Nah, sounds like you were one of the smart ones. I (born '70) was married at 17 and had my first kid at 19. Turned out ok though cause I was 42 when the last of my 'babies' graduated highschool.

Grandkids?
What are you an old boomer?

I'm an older dad and I'm gay. My kid has grown to love 90's house and 80's latin freestyle. Just doing my duty...

The classics. Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, of course. yardbird's (various incarnations) zeppelin, etc. Just working my way through the greats until we get to Vail

The Beatles, ABBA, Queen… and everything from 1984. My kids love all of that.

Old skool house and techno.

My parents listened to everything - folk, rock, oldies, easy listening, country. I also listen to everything , including metal, classical, ska, punk. If and when I have grandchildren, they will hear all of it.

We're going to Bugs Bunny at the Symphony in January. Perhaps coming to a symphony orchestra near you.

I looked up this series and they will be at our symphony hall next year. I just may take my sweet baby to it, thanks for posting

A few years ago, the first Harry Potter movie was making the rounds without music so a live symphony could perform the score. We took one of the grandkids then.

I began working with the elderly in 1982 doing in home care (12 years old at the time)
I learned to love big band music, polka, 50s and 20s music.
Without realizing it I brought that home to my kids.
Sure they have favorites but they listen to it all.
Toss in growing up on a street with 6 Hispanic families and now you've got Spanish music!

All types of music. I always liked all types, so they'll get to hear a bunch of different styles. they'll pick what they like, just like everyone does.

Grandkids won't happen for me, and that's okay.
My kiddo loves Alice in Chains and that's about all I can ask for.

My granddaughter is 13 and she keeps sending me Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and Soundgarden songs and asking if I've heard them. The last time I saw her, she was wearing a Deftones t-shirt. Her friends all listen to Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice so I love the fact that she is taking her own musical path.

All the music I ignored while chasing Prince for 35 years! Heavy metal, grunge, whatever GNR is...

I have no grandchildren. I have three girls. Two of them love Rock and Metal. We go to two or three concerts together every year. We’re on track for four this year. The third does not and I am disappointed, but, hey, she is her own person and that is good. All three of them practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with me, so I got that.

My favorite artist is Shinedown. My granddaughter wrote out all the lyrics to “A Symptom of Being Human” because she knows i love them so much. So I support her love of Taylor Swift. Grandkids are THE best.

Free jazz and grindcore for the grandkids so they will understand and appreciate controlled chaos

Tool, Slayer, Fugazi, Melvins, Whores, etc. Ya know, normal music.

I fell in love with the Beatles in high school (78-82) and I raised my kids on it in the 90s and now my grandkids. They all know every word to every song.👍🥰

Her mother already has her exposed to metal and some rap music. Through me, she gets older metal (and other 70s and 80s music) and she absolutely loves Steam Powered Giraffe.
