Remember Abercrombie and Fitch in the 90s?

I never went into their stores but remember the advertisements, lots of young fit dudes wearing hardly any cloths.

I remember trying to get a job there and was outright refused because I wasn’t white.
Finding_Way_@reddit
I guess the Civil Rights act didn't apply to them, even in terms of being performative?
OIL_99@reddit
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch

And I think it's fly when girls stop by For the summer, for the summ

They did have some great long sleeve t shirts.

I’ve been fairly stupid today so I may need some help here. In the first picture, those guys have tied their pants together, right?
geodebug@reddit
Because of the implication.
AnarchiaKapitany@reddit
It's not gay when only the tips touch, so they made sure they do.
waaaghboyz@reddit
When they advertised exclusively to closeted gay college boys? Good times

I do remember the period when, all of a sudden, every A&F in a mall near me had the shirtless boy whores standing outside the store. Always found that an odd marketing choice.

Oh you mean The Date Rape Store?
ChaosAside@reddit
I remember the big brouhaha when their HUGE picture just inside the front door was a guys bare stomach that almost, saved by just millimeters, showed too much.

I still have the flannels

I'm so old I remember Abercrombie & Fitch back in the '80s when it was sort of an outdoorsy-older-person store, like Orvis or Eddie Bauer.

As noted in a response to a post below, A&F was part of the companies owned by Les Wexner, who was close to Jeffrey Epstein and the pedo/abusive culture bled right on down into the organization. The sexual abuse and exploitation within A&F was rampant.

just bros bein bros

Those dudes may as well be crossing swords.

Their stores STANK of cologne like they were constantly spritzing the cardboard fck boys. I could smell it before and after I passed by. It was boring and expensive.
RudyRusso@reddit
Smelled like hatred.
Stallone_Writer@reddit
"...the cardboard fck boys."! LOL
Civil_Concentrate_23@reddit
It was grody to the max!

My brother liked their stuff so I called him Abercrombie’s Bitch.
ColdMiserable8056@reddit
Have a listen to the BBC documentary about A&F. About the grooming and sexual abuse. It's as if Epstein had a retail chain.
Bdbru13@reddit
Haven’t watched so idk if you meant that like…metaphorically or whatever the word would be, but A&F was owned by The Limited Inc. which was owned by Les Wexner
Wexner has deep ties to Epstein.
Epstein victim Maria Farmer has called him “the head of the snake” for whatever exactly was going on with Epstein, at least in North America
jonvonfunk@reddit
I bought clothes at structure then.
NVJAC@reddit
Yeah, I was never one of those guys (I was a bit too old by that point, as I'd gone through college during the grunge era).
It's actually made something of a comeback: How Abercrombie & Fitch got hot again (economist.com)

The CEO of Abercrombie was a sleeze and sort of a psycho.
He sexually abused his employees amongst other things.
Evidently, when he was removed from his position as CEO, he was in a conference room with racks of sample clothing with the designers.
Someone told him the board fired him and he just walked out. Didn't have an office or anything. Just walked out the door.

A dude in the class a year ahead of me was a professional model for maybe 5 years in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Weird to see him on the wall in an A&F when I used to sit behind him in Spanish class. Now he’s back home running the family ranch in bumfuck, Kansas. Morbid story, but he lived just a few blocks from the World Trade Center. He said the smell was the exact same as branding cattle — the burning flesh and hair smell.

The documentary on Netflix isn’t half bad
arbitraryupvoteforu@reddit
I used to work at a high end clothing catalog and their assistant buyer was a former A&F model. He also did some of the modeling for our catalog. We became great friends and he’s even better looking now.
Stallone_Writer@reddit
A&F memories.
ManzanitaSuperHero@reddit
This era was a celebration of the frat bro & Abercrombie was at the helm. Not sad that’s gone.
dumpcake999@reddit
weren't there shirtless models working inside some of the stores too like in NYC
