Hi yall, Just wondering how much of a sin it'd be to go into my local gun shop for an hour and just rack slides. Definitely don't have the money for any of them, but the sales guy won't know that lol

When I go into a gun store to make a new purchase, I always ask if they have any in the back that are still new in the box. I'm not paying full price for a display gun that has been finger f****d a million times.

Almost seems unnecessary. Ussually when I buy something I get "let me see if there is a new one in the back" which when you think about it

Bruh
It's a GUN
It's literally built to contain an explosion to propel a shard of metal using filthy gas
People fingerfucking it on display is literally the least of its worries

All my guns are pretty though...

My school of thought is that you go into the establishment with an idea in mind.. not just randomly making them show you shit. "I want a semiauto xyz at some point, wonder what they have". Look at that class of weapon, particular ones you want and comparable ones, etc. You don't finger fuck everything in the store, that's just rude, and annoying. You also need to have intent, you may not have money now, but for the kindness of letting you come in and browse without kicking you out, answering your questions on those prior visits, you do intend to come back when you do have the money, right.... If not.. you just wasted the hell out of their time... The overhead they pay to keep the lights on, the doors open, and someone on staff to answer your questions and show you their wares. The caveat I suppose is that if this is a once ever few months thing, nobody is going to care, but don't become a nuisance, and actually buy shit off them when you can. The shop I go to knows I have plenty of money, he knows that I only want particular guns, but I never walk out without something in my hand whether it be ammo, a hat, a sling.. something to help keep money flowing in.

If you’re going to do this, just don’t take an hour; 15 mins tops. I used to work a gun counter and I’ve been a poor student, so I know how it goes. Most gun counter guys are happy to show you stuff, but not for an hour. They’re usually commission based or at least trying to earn points for rewards programs so taking an hour of their time with no intention to buy is too long. 15 mins? Probably fine.

Also, is dry firing looked down upon? What can I do when I have the gun to view in my hands?

Trust me, they know you're poor as fuck. Please don't fingerfuck their guns for an hour if you're not really interested in buying one.

I’ve been the guy behind the counter. We can tell. It’s annoying because some of us are commission based and if you’re taking up our time “for an hour to just rack slides” we’re losing commissions. We have to talk to you because it’s our job and we don’t want to ignore you because negative word of mouth spreads faster than positive.
Now, if you go up to a sales person and say, “I’m just looking right now, I don’t have the money, but I’d like to browse and test out a few to see what I like so I can build a budget”, then we’d be more than happy to work with you. I did that all the time because guns cost money and everyone has different levels of “free” cash to spend.
Most true gun people would rather spend an hour with someone who’s testing the waters and trying to make the right choose before spending the money then pushing a sale on someone who at the end of the day won’t like what they bought and not use it.
There’s a reason why I left gun retail because the chain store I worked for pushed sales and not the above mentioned.

I sell guns for a living if your doing research for a future purchase it's not that big of a deal don't go John wicking them, handle a couple with care it's no big deal. Just make sure you ask first. If you say upfront your not ready to buy they'll understand and want your business eventually. Now with that being said if you don't plan on buying anything in the future and just going to F around than they'll know it and be upset.

Don’t be a douchebag.

You'd be an asshole guilty of a type of theft. The clerk has to give you the guns to look at meaning they're spending time with you instead of other customers or doing other work around the store. You'd also be wasting other customers' time. It's not direct theft, but intentionally wasting someone's time when that time is directly tied to money is a terrible thing to do.
If you wanna do something with guns that's cheaper, go to a range that rents them. Either that or get a Highpoint and rack it all day long at home. I believe they're $150-200 for the basic 9mm pistol.

Yes. Yes they will.
