Top end rebuild to include roller cam and vortec heads

Complete noob here: whats that mount on the push rods down at the hydros?
Did the heads on my 89 350 and spotted a dead hydro when I already assembled everything and was adjusting the rocker arms. In curious If I can make the engine better than new with a couple of tweaks. Although its just a 350 with a TBI I can’t get rid of… Sry if I write weird, English isn’t my first language.

I’m a bit confused on what you mean by “hydros” If you are talking about the link that joins the lifters that’s to keep them online as they are rollers…… English doesn’t need to be your first language we can figure it out it’s all good
81stBData@reddit
I‘m used to hydraulic lifters. In Germany we say just Hydros. First Time I see a Link down there. On the other hand its just my second V8 so I haven’t seen much first hand. Is that a Stingray?
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Stingray name was actually not used after 74 I believe…. It’s a c-3…. If hydraulic lifters are called hydros what do ya’ll call non hydraulic lifters or solid lifters?
81stBData@reddit
Ah didn’t know that about the name. Took a wild guess cause of the shape.
You got me thinking about the hydraulic part. I got this all wrong. I haven’t seen rollers yet only flat tappet lifters. So I thought thats how „hydros“ look like. After googling rollers I figured out that what my 350 has are hydraulic flat tappet lifters and both rollers and flat tappet lifters are hydraulic…
Like I said I’m an absolute noob when it comes to cars. Just try to figure out all that stuff cause I‘d like to buy and restore a late 60s Ford truck in the future.
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
They also make solid, non hydraulic lifters as well, in flat tappet and roller….
81stBData@reddit
Ahh is there a rule of thumb which years/engines do have non hydraulics?
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Solid lifters are more for performance oriented motors as they won’t “ bleed down” or loose pressure after a certain rpm…..various musclecars thru the years were available with solid lifters….
81stBData@reddit
Ah thanks for the info. Is it possible to switch to solid lifters instead of rollers?
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Your lifters will either be solid or hydraulic….. flat tappet or roller is up to you and determined by camshaft, rollers are considerably more expensive of course
81stBData@reddit
Ah I see, thanks for taking the time explaining that stuff to me.
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Of course, and you are welcome

I wonder how well those AC systems cooled back in the day. Did these also use R12 refrigerant?
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
I converted this one to R-134 and have it blowing 51* ….. not too shabby….. small interior so does pretty good

What cam is in it? Just curious.
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Howard’s retrofit roller with 465 lift and 230 duration…… nothing crazy just a mild setup
HYPURRDBLNKL@reddit
That's still gonna sound good, and have some pep. Good luck with the fire off. At least you don't have to do the flat tappet sweaty brow break in, lol.
chuck-u-farley-@reddit (OP)
Ya no kidding, done with that flat tappet crap….. I got a solid roller in my camaro and now a hyd roller in this
HYPURRDBLNKL@reddit
Yeah, I switched to a solid roller as well.
