Is a RX 580 fine for now?

Building my first PC on a fixed £500-600 and I have come up with this build, https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Nmgf6D.
I am looking at replacing my faulty gaming laptop with R7 5800H and RTX 3060, the GPU won't be a big miss as most the games I play rely more on the CPU, like LoL and Football Manager, but I do occasionally emulate PS2/PS3 games.
I found a combo deal for the CPU and motherboard for £260 and I can get the RX 580 card for £72 used at CEX. Having already looked at the some gaming tests the RX 580 which I am fine with, is there anything else I should be aware of before I buy? And maybe in a year's time I can upgrade to a RX 6600.

Fixed it for you.

Not sure a gen3 motherboard is a good idea coupled with pcie 4.0 (X8?) card. The Ryzen 5600 = Vermeer is capable of Pcie 4 so better also get a matching gen4 motherboard.
Royal-Brick-2522@reddit
Pretty much this.
Jackyjoneslq@reddit
This is what op should definitely build.
Op doesn't play any AAA games so the 5700x3d isn't a priority. Could push some of the money to a better gpu
rocklatecake@reddit
Far better than what the OP is planning to build, but I'd make some changes. Back up to 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD by getting a more budget but still solid PSU. https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/fVvG7R
ThrwAwayAdvicePlease@reddit
Costco has an i5 12400f with a 4060 prebuilt for £599 at the moment.
Johnlenham@reddit
I'm looking at upgrading my card this week and so I'd need to sell a 6600XT hellhound, probably for like £150?
No-Thing-1294@reddit
I had an rx 580 and got 240fps at 1080p no problem.
clare416@reddit
In what game?
No-Thing-1294@reddit
Overwatch
clare416@reddit
Cool. But I doubt most other games in the last 5 years can reach even 100 FPS at 1080p
No-Thing-1294@reddit
Maybe but in non competitive shooters 60 fps is all you need anyway.
r4in@reddit
Try finding used 6700 XT instead.
Ryeikun@reddit
rx580 was really popular for mining rig few years ago, so i wouldnt buy that second hand, or even brand new from UNKNOWN brand. The reason is because they reused/recycle/refurbished a second hand chip and put it in a brand-new PCB board. Also there are 2 types of RX580. The proper one with 2304 stream processor (SP) or the cheap 2048SP.
clare416@reddit
Is it that bad? Coz it's a go to for some markets especially Latin America
Ryeikun@reddit
i dont know, some can only go for 1 year or less but some can go more. That is without knowing the actual usage. So i cant tell for sure but for me i decided to skip it and get something else. I was going to buy RX580 too but i keep wondering why its so cheap and how its eerily similar design from one unknown brand to another. My first conclusion was that it was an old gpu model so it must be cheap. However, after seeing how much second hand product was sold, i decided to dug deeper and thats when i found out that some unknown brand actually refurbished old chip and putting a new PCB, selling it as new.

Get cheaper CPU and put that extra money into GPU like RX6600 for example since you're not going to play AAA games much. And I'm sure that it could handle PS2/3 emulation just fine
FalseAgent@reddit
In my humble opinion, go with a weaker CPU like a 5600x and get the RX 6600 instead of the RX 580. The 5700X3D will be severely underused with the RX 6600.
jamesk2@reddit
Otoh 5700x3d is clearly is the endgame for a build and will last you a long time, so you are just waiting to upgrade the graphic card. 5600x will have to be replaced much sooner.
clare416@reddit
Only if you want to max things out, higher refresh rate and higher resolution. I dare to say that most people that are not in this sub or pcmr are using weaker CPU including mine
Mysterious_Lion_7639@reddit
The RX 580 should be fine for now, especially at the price you’re getting it for. Just be mindful, as others have mentioned, some used RX 580s could have gone through crypto mining, which might affect their longevity. You could try running a stress test after purchasing to make sure it’s performing well. That said, it’s still a solid card for 1080p gaming and older emulated titles, and if you plan to upgrade to an RX 6600 later, that will definitely give you a nice performance boost. Best of luck with the build!

bottleneck?
Pineappl3z@reddit
What are you talking about? OP is buying the GPU second hand & intends to replace it in the future with a more performant one. The CPU is the component that determines the maximum FPS in a system no matter the resolution. Having an excellent CPU will never inhibit performance of a system; it's actually very desirable to be GPU bound when there are better ones available. It's an easy swap & just requires extra dough.
dreadcreator5@reddit
my bad didnt read the upgrade to rx6600 part.
Secure_Seesaw7648@reddit
I loved the rx580 and did builds on this for years. Everyone I built for loved it, especially for the price. However, the two I have bought in the last 2 years have been bad. I had one rx590 fail recently as well. This gpu used probably went through 2 rounds of crypto mining. Try to get into a 6600 core or something. This is coming from someone who thinks the rx580 was one of the best gpus released in its time period.
playerblaiir@reddit (OP)
Thanks, I'll definitely look for a 6600 in the near future when I have the funds, but for now all i can do is hope the 580 i get hasn't also gone through crypto mining.
CoyoteFit7355@reddit
Folks, OP can't afford more. That's not a reason to downvote!
Secure_Seesaw7648@reddit
Agree - if it works great deal. In the usa if it doesn't work and you purchased with Amazon easy return. Europe is different in my experience. Sellers do what is legally required amd that's it. I have found myself screwed so many times there. Hope it works out for him.

Just save dude
Rough-Donkey-747@reddit
RX 580 is too old.
Get a used RX 6600 XT for similar price.
Marginally more expensive than the RX 6600 but significantly faster. Won't need to upgrade for a while.
DipenG@reddit
Second this, get a used 6600xt or 6650xt, way more increase in performance
PinchCactus@reddit
The 580 is a legendary value card buts it's getting really old. BUT, if you can't afford anything better for now it will get you gaming. Driver support may be an issue. I had to take my 580 out of my machine when the drivers stopped supporting both my 6700xt and rx580, and I couldn't use the 580 for folding anymore.
Flat-Assumption-3334@reddit
The 6700 isn’t supported? Isnt that card only like 3 years old?
PinchCactus@reddit
No the drivers that support the 6700xt do not also support the rx580 at the same time. So if I wanted to use folding at home in the background in the 580 while gaming on the 6700xt it became impossible.
apagogeas@reddit
Are you sure about that? As far as I know they now maintain two different versions of drivers, one is without Polaris which gets the most frequent updates and the other one includes everything (latest + older Polaris) but gets released every once in a while. Perhaps you could look into that version of drivers instead?
PinchCactus@reddit
You could be right, idk. My 580 lives in a Plex server now, so I don't need that functionality anymore.
Flat-Assumption-3334@reddit
Ah gotcha that’s a bummer, I didn’t know that
Ambitious-Yard7677@reddit
Only one driver version can be loaded. If I wanted to use my RX590 for games and 290X for transcoding or whatever the latest driver package I can use that supports both cards is the 21.Q1 Pro drivers typically used for workstation cards.
Support for the 290X isn't included in most of the Adrenalin drivers for the 590. For example Adrenalin 22.5.1 lacks support the 290X despite being released BEFORE the the last Adrenalin package for the 290X.. version 22.6.1
playerblaiir@reddit (OP)
Thanks, I hope the drivers aren't an issue but I won't be playing any new AAA games which probably should be fine.
FalseAgent@reddit
nah the drivers are fine. I still play some games on it and it's never skipped a day.
travelavatar@reddit
Someone is selling an rx 580 on r/HardwareSwapUK for £57.
Bet you can take it down to £50 to include postage too or maybe less. And it's 8GB
dreadcreator5@reddit
my 5 year old rx580 still running likr new
farmeunit@reddit
How much is 5700XT used there? Way faster, but it would be around a 6600/XT for half price, at least here it is.
Oedius_Rex@reddit
I had a 580 8gb and it felt really really bad. If you can, see if you can find a used 1070 or maybe even a Vega card, they're similar in value in my area and it's the difference between 30 and 60 frames in some games.
marc0gam3r@reddit
Get a 6600, the 580 days are over now
sussmanite_101@reddit
I'd look into trying to find a used Rx 6600 or 3060 12GB if you want to keep your budget
GorcsPlays@reddit
I only changed mine after 5 years because when I tried to use the AMD profiler it said my GPU wasn't supported, bummer D:
SynthesizedTime@reddit
nope. I owned one and it was already old like 2 years ago
Rough-Donkey-747@reddit
RX580 is ancient and that price is a ripoff. Can get a newer card with double the performance for same price.
nlflint@reddit
Those parts are getting old. I wouldn't buy them new at this point, unless you have no option. Look around your local classifieds for second-hand gaming PCs instead.
TheKitler@reddit
I would try to save a bit more for this build but if you really can't, try to find a used 6600, 6600xt, or 6650xt.
You're also going to want 1tb. Space fills up faster than you realize.

Depends on what's "fine" for you. My buddy had one and struggled to play most games like 2-3 years ago.
Virtual-Ability-2129@reddit
I run a 580 paired with a Ryzen 5500 for a year now. I think you can call it a very basic configuration, but it runs Elden Ring (50 FPS+), Cyberpunk (45 FPS+-), Plague Tale, Forza 4 and other not so old games in 1080p.
But the list of games I just can't run grows daily (recent example: FF 16 demo won't even install).
I only bought this card because I had no other option. If that's your case, go for it, it'ill surprise you. But it's outdated for current releases and will have you asking yourself "can I run it?" every time a new game comes out.
Unusual_Job_000@reddit
also used rx5700xt for 100$ +- as rtx 3060,4060
MFAD94@reddit
You can get a second hand 6600-6650XT for alot cheaper if you go the used route, eBay from a good seller m isn’t a bad option if you’re on a tight budget. Just make sure they have free returns
AnotherJeepguy@reddit
Im still gonna use the one i have in other builds at some point. But im realistic in its capabilities.
ExquisiteCactus@reddit
I had a 590 (so pretty much an overclocked 580) that I only just upgraded from and had no issues with the card outside of a bad fan bearing (rattled but never gave issues. Probably could have fixed it if I wasn't lazy). For 1080p and light 1440p, it was fine and I never ran into issues playing games (though I played esports and older stuff mostly). As others have said, its getting pretty old so you might be able to get a better card for around the same price if you look really hard but as I don't know much about the market near you, I'd say its fine.
DODOKING38@reddit
Honestly just buy the 6600, at this point the 580 is really old
ncilswdk2@reddit
For a budget build you are overpaying for the case and PSU. If you get cheaper options, you could just fit a new 6600 into your budget now or try to find one used to save a bit more:
