Good for Canada seizing it from Russia!
L1011forever@reddit
Does anyone know the amount of work required to get this flying again? Will it need an airworthiness certificate or equivalent? I imagine those engines not being covered, have been windmilling for years.
snakesntings@reddit
The nose was opened and there was a team on it 2 weeks ago. Let’s see what happens
Spino2425@reddit
Do you know if it was the rear door as well or just the nose door?
langley10@reddit
They’ve done that every few months… open it up, check electrical and some other stuff… they open the engine cowlings too but as far as I know they only start the APU not the engines.
KYHotBrownHotCock@reddit
Ruzzians?
CarbonKevinYWG@reddit
Nope. Ruzzia isn't paying their impound fees, no way in hell they would get access to it.
hellswaters@reddit
Canada has been trying to hand it over to Ukraine. My guess is that there is a couple of techs from Antonov doing basic work so it can be brought into service as soon as it's cleared up in the courts.
Educational-Coat-750@reddit
Planes don’t like to sit, especially not for several years. Fluids and oil are supposed to be constantly moving around, not to mention rust formation and likely lots of cracks in hoses/tubing and electrical cables. It would cost a fortune to make her airworthy again.
L1011forever@reddit
I was kinda thinking the same thing. Probably more money to get her flying again than the plane is worth.
Educational-Coat-750@reddit
Even if we ever give it back to the Russians I bet they’d scrap it
2cimage@reddit
Russia impounded over 400 Western leased planes when the Ukraine War started, doubt they’re getting that back. https://www.intellinews.com/an-epic-insurance-brawl-over-russia-s-seizure-of-planes-is-going-nowhere-317823/
TheAeronauticalchnl1@reddit
I recently was in Toronto, I was overjoyed to see it after nearly 5 years. I once saw it in Delhi, and then thought I wouldn't see it again. I am glad I did see her tho.
Exact same reg.
Hellfire-071@reddit
woah
covex_d@reddit
canada stole it
S1075@reddit
Not sure if they needed to use a An-124 to transport vaccines, but even if they did, it's unrelated to it being seized after Russia invaded. If one doesnt want their stuff confiscated, don't invade a neighbor and commit countless war crimes. Also, any argument of theft is negated by the hundreds of western aircraft under lease in Russia which will never be returned.
Turbo_SkyRaider@reddit
The An-225 flew masks to Germany.
Just sayin...
CarbonKevinYWG@reddit
It was Covid supplies, and it entered our airspace without clearance. We're not allowing it to enter our airspace again, so it sits.
Cope and seethe vatnik.
RunImpressive3504@reddit
Good joke!
Spino2425@reddit
Stupid idea: once they complete the second an 225, they could use it to transport this an 124 to a museum
Turbo_SkyRaider@reddit
Piggyback, as the engineers intended to.
Existing_Can726@reddit
I saw the same thing at the end of July at toronto too
DepressedLondoner1@reddit
Been there for a few years now
WLFGHST@reddit
That caption needs some work, Canada definitely did not “seize” it from Russia . Speaking of which, it doesn’t have anything to do with the Russian government, it’s just a Russian airline that regularly does humanitarian missions and other miscellaneous work around the world.
If anything it’s bad on them for kidnapping a civilian aircraft.
CarbonKevinYWG@reddit
It entered our airspace without permission and chose to land here knowing there would be no permit issued to fly out of here. Seems more like they marooned themselves, but you keep coping, vatnik.
WLFGHST@reddit
Why in the world do you need a permit to fly into Canada?
CarbonKevinYWG@reddit
Because it's our airspace and we will bloody well say who can and can't fly in it. Just like every other civilized country on earth does.
WLFGHST@reddit
Do we really put sanctions on humanitarian airlines just because they’re in a war?
spish@reddit
Been there since the start of the war.
surSEXECEN@reddit
Early on there was some attempts to keep up with maintenance to keep it airworthy, but it appears that ship had sailed.
The latest was that the Canadian government tried to give it to the Ukrainian government, but Volga-Dnepr, the aircraft’s Russian owner, sued and it’s been stuck in the courts for the better part of a year. In August, Volga-Dnepr filed a $100-million claim against the Canadian government.
3-is-MELd@reddit
That's fine... they can have it back, but they'll have to make it airworthy according to Canadian standards.
Unable9451@reddit
Bum's been parked there for the whole length of the 3-day special operation.
devilleader501@reddit
😂😂😂😆😆😆
KYHotBrownHotCock@reddit
Those engines are coooked
Washout22@reddit
Won't it be something when they finally lose and collapse like 1991. Pure incompetence...
catboi532_on_roblox@reddit
What about a an-22?
langley10@reddit
Don’t think a 22 has ever been to YYZ… but An-12s show up fairly frequently, and of course Mriya visited.
pissy_corn_flakes@reddit
If the 22 is the largest version of that craft (or was that the 24?) it’s been to YYZ.. I watched it operate when I worked across the street
langley10@reddit
No the An-225 Mriya was the largest one, and it did visit.
The An-22 is a very large turboprop, they very rarely crossed the Atlantic at all, and as far as I know never to Toronto.
Exotic_Drawer_3052@reddit
It will be there forever as a statue. With time, even a non-flying aircrafts need maintenance. By the time the war blows over it won’t be worth it to make it air worry. It could make a cool hotel tho
FiddlerOnThePotato@reddit
Not to mention the fact that, presumably, the owners weren't offered the chance to come and prepare the aircraft for long term storage which would make that task much easier. Things like applying engine protection fluids and covers, lifting the aircraft onto some kind of axle jacks so the tires don't get flat spotted, goodness knows what else on this thing.
Spino2425@reddit
Imagine how cool it would be to have a big ass Russian cargo plane statue at your Canadian airport
mynam3isn3o@reddit
Hard pass on the ass Russian plane. Big or small.
heysoundude@reddit
Noooobody expects the Spanish Inquisitionnnn!
Oh wait…
SuperBwahBwah@reddit
Behold... The biggest of boys.
Starchaser_WoF@reddit
That was confiscated by the Canadians.
sebbywebby9@reddit
yea its been there for about 4/5 years and cant go back to Russia because of the war
GamingPredator69@reddit
2 years, landed there in February of 2022
sebbywebby9@reddit
ok mb idk cuz i wasnt really near the airport in covid and after that was there a lot
microwaved__soap@reddit
does anyone know if there's a way to find out it's registration to learn more about its history?

supfool999@reddit
I thought we were going to try to give it to Ukraine? Is that not happening? It's been a couple years.
Taskforce58@reddit
It has been there for so long, it's even showing up on Google maps.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/hnWY7rayuAVF8d896
captcodger@reddit
Fucking dismantle it already.
fanofbacon12@reddit
Hello Ms. Laaaady...
Ok_Score1492@reddit
Seizing? Last time I checked it was owned by Ukraine
Overwatchingu@reddit
That plane is/was owned by Russia and was seized by Canadian authorities as part of sanctions against Russia for their invasion of Ukraine. There has been talk of giving seized Russian assets, including this plane, to Ukraine, but nothing has been finalized.
KinksAreForKeds@reddit
I don't really care for that livery. The yellow and blue just seems so much classier, for some reason.
gmred91@reddit
At what point can Canada just officially declare that it's ours and put it in a museum?
meetgeorgejetson10@reddit
Still annoyed they haven’t painted over the Russian flag on the tail.
Maleficent_Cap_7228@reddit
Saw her leaving Toronto last Saturday to Washington DC
BitterPlatypus@reddit
What poor flight were you taking from gate 245C. So sorry you had to see that part of Toronto Pearson.
Public_Fucking_Media@reddit (OP)
Just landing haha
TheMichaelF1@reddit
Why suprised? They own you...
Dizzy-Photo1594@reddit
they seized it since covid due to sanctions
ChillZedd@reddit
Not since covid. Since the invasion in 2022
PrimeNumbersAreMyJam@reddit
Hasn't it been there for months/years? I remember seeing it when I connected through in 2022.
Public_Fucking_Media@reddit (OP)
Yeah I have been reading up on it, been there since the war started... Never thought I'd see one in person tho
Logsha97@reddit
It used to come fairly often, around once a month. Delivering covid relief supplies until the war started.
memeboiandy@reddit
Thats fair. For those of us outside of major hub airport areas, its not common to see russian(soviet)/chinese made aircraft hanging around. I knew it was there, but id still think it was cool to see if I was able to
PrimeNumbersAreMyJam@reddit
Agreed. I only saw it during taxi and wasn't aware of its history there until that point. And to be honest, I don't fly through YYZ that often so I would probably be in the same boat if I'd not see it in 2022.
geckos_are_weirdos@reddit
If you take the bus from the subway to the airport, you will see it up close.
StudioNo6652@reddit
I actually saw her as well once while taking the bus
FinkedUp@reddit
Nice view for all those going in and out of Toronto
izhimey@reddit
It's arrested because of sanctions.
