Potential Dimmable Windows on future A330NEOs?

Since we are already starting to see dimmable windows on newer A350s, do you think Airbus might add them on the future A330NEOs as well, since the 777X is also based on an older 90s aluminum airframe, but also has dimmable windows?

I hate those. Hard as fuck to use

how come? I'm excited to try the tinted windows and obviously look out of the giant window of the 787 but as a guy outside the US going on a plane once every 5 years, most airlines here use Boeing 737, 777, Airbus A320 and A380 depending on the trip obviously, so I'll never get to experience a Boeing 787 until at least a decade from now.

They don't get opaque enough, it takes time (like 20 minutes) for them to fully darken, and the FAs can override your preference.
Sens_120ms@reddit
wait what? 20 minutes to change the appearance?, I prefer the window open but also may watch a movie or 2, having to wait 20 minutes to watch a movie is crazy, obviously depends whether it's a day or night trip, but I think I understand now why you don't like it
I heard from others in this thread that flight attendants can override the settings and even lock the feature away from passengers, I don't quite understand why tho, u and 2 others are sitting there, not the flight attendant, it should be the row's preference.

They take time to get fully dark, the initial dimming (think level 1-5) is pretty quick, then the darker you want it the longer it takes.
FAs will lock it on dim because it helps people sleep and sleeping people are easier to deal with. They'll also lock it on clear in certain places and times where the regs require it.

Terrible idea
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
Dear gods, I hope not.
The 787's dimmable windows are awful. They don't actually dim to black, they let in a lot of heat while they block visible light so you get very hot if you're on the sun side of the aircraft, and most of all the cabin crew on many airlines lock them to dark even on flights in daytime so you can't see out or keep your circadian rhythm set correctly.
They are a significant reason why I try to avoid 787s.
bravogates@reddit
I wonder what's r/fearofflying has to say about this.
source4mini@reddit
I've seen comments from people with claustrophobia or who otherwise need to see outside for comfort that it's awful. There's no way for the cabin crew to release a single window, and company policy ties their hands regardless.
Welcome to the future, sorry we didn't think of you.
bravogates@reddit
Oh well, I definitely have strong feelings about flight attendants and I'll just say they aren't very positive.
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
It's perfectly possible to set all the windows to dark without locking the controls, so that people can choose their preference if they have one.
bravogates@reddit
Could it possibly be that flight attendants lock the windows because they have less work to do if everyone is asleep?
Amberskin@reddit
Not exclusive of 787 dimmable windows
I’ve flown in Air France A350/900 with mechanical window shutters, that can also be closed and locked by the crew.
jithization@reddit
How is that possible? That is like a waste of weight with all the mechanisms involved. I know the 380 has a shutter for premium classes but that closes several windows at a time. Having a mechanism to control every window must be a nightmare for maintenance and weight
Amberskin@reddit
Hmmm I flew business, so I cannot tell about the rest of the windows.
FelisCantabrigiensis@reddit
Equally evil, then.
Dangerous-Salad-bowl@reddit
Me too. I always try to book a window seat, usually on the shady north side of the aircraft to enjoy the magic of flight and landscapes below. I really don’t want the view arbitrated by the imperatives of in flight “entertainment”.
nousernameisleftt@reddit
Why have I never thought to book the shadier side
PacSan300@reddit
I found the ones on the A350 to be slightly better in usability. When the ones on the 787 are darkened sufficiently during daytime, it can really give an effect of being in an underwater submarine with windows.
ChillZedd@reddit
I just like looking out the window and hate having it dimmed.
lolstickle@reddit
I hated those on the B78x
memeboiandy@reddit
Really? I loved them
lolstickle@reddit
I was on a flight from Madrid to Lima, on the sunny side, i never had such a bad ride, the windows was so hot you could barely touch it, and the whole area was just hot.. i always recommend, if you’re traveling on a B78, don’t go to to the windows, at least on a big flight
unknownperson_2005@reddit
The crew master lock override the windows for like 85% of the flight, at that point you might aswell assume they're vampires.
bravogates@reddit
Dimmable windows should never have existed, or at the very least, flight attendants should not be able to lock them dark.
extravert_@reddit
I hope so
The 787s dimmable windows are amazing. They don't actually dim to black, so you can still see out without being blinded by high altitude sun. It's great watching the world go by without being self conscious that I am annoying my fellow passengers. The windows are also so much bigger than other planes it's one of the reasons along with lower cabin altitude that I prefer 787s
Shinobus_Smile@reddit
This is literally the opposite response as one of the top ones. I don't know who to believe any more
CtrlAltDelicious8@reddit
Well if it is a short, day flight sure, but if it is a transocean flight 10+ hours, they suck unless you are somewhat flying the majority of the route at night
textonic@reddit
i've flown on 787 dozen or so times and I hate them. Im trying to sleep and its bright day outside, they don't dim all the way so im always getting light in my eyes. it sucks
GrammarNaziBadge0174@reddit
Dim Sum Fancy Windows.
SympathyOrnery407@reddit
Imagine the skies turning brighter or darker at the touch of a button!Dimmable windows on A330NEOs could revolutionize air travel ambiance.Picture a sunset view mid-flight or a cozy dimmed cabin for a nap.
