What other reboot movies would you like to see made?

We seen Beetlejuice this weekend and it was... Terrible. The movie made no sense and brought no nostalgic feelings at all.
By contrast, Twisters was an awesome reboot of the original that brought not only the warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling but also a sense of updating us on what happened to our favorite characters from that movie.
Top Gun also, was a great reboot! We got to see what happened next to our heroes of that movie.
Do any of you wonder what John Bender is up to these days? How about the Goonies? Did they go on to be deep sea treasure hunters?
On the other hand, I don't think that we'll ever know what happened to the Lost Boys. It just wouldn't be the same without Corey Haim.
Spiritual-Cow4200@reddit
I’d like to see what Guiermo del Toro would do to The Secret of N.I.M.H.

Would you accept a spin-off movie https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Rolls ?

Give CONAF a listen, Jeff Bridges was on today's podcast, he has some out there ideas for a sequel
Ok_Television9820@reddit
Yeah, well, that’s just, like…your opinion, man.
JJQuantum@reddit
None. Hollywood needs to get off its ass and come up with some new, good ideas.
FocalorLucifuge@reddit
I did not much like Twisters. I felt it did too little to connect up with the old movie.
Top Gun: Maverick was perfect. I like it even better than the original.
Bladerunner 2049 was amazing, another one I'd rank above the original.
The new Ghostbusters movies are extremely meh. But still better than that godawful female comedian led reboot.
Any_Gain_9251@reddit
A few years back when they remade V, I kept thinking "What about Alien Nation! That's so much better than V!". But I don't really want anything I liked being remade because everything is ridiculously shit these days. All spectacle and no substance.
Ok_Television9820@reddit
Not reboot, but sequel: I’m still waiting for Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.
Any_Gain_9251@reddit
Me too, but its never going to happen due to IP disputes. Originally was meant to be a heap of them.
Dewrunner4X4@reddit
Prequel for Captain Spalding. That would be awesome.
2cheesesteaks@reddit
Always thought Wargames would be a natural late sequel/remake. Modern technologies. Would be frightening now with AI that's closer AGI. Broderick/Sheedy's kid is the new hero. Mr. Robot vibes. Sam Esmail would direct.
modi123_1@reddit
I say reboot movies that didn't do well the first time around.
Robotjox, Howard the Duck, Clan of the Cave Bear, Grand Theft Auto, Toxic Avengers, etc.
WilliamMcCarty@reddit
I've always said, don't remake the good movies, remake the bad ones. They got made for a reason, there was a good idea there it just went wrong. Try again and get it right this time.
But don't you touch the Toxic Avenger.
justmisspellit@reddit
Wasn’t Peter Dinklage going to play Toxie in a new one? If go for that
PS Toxic Avenger the Musical is fantastic.
ravenx99@reddit
I'll watch anything Dinklage is in.
NVJAC@reddit
The reboot of Ishtar would be epic.
Mindless-Employment@reddit
Unpopular opinion: None of them
sawyer_whoopass@reddit
Popular or not, I entirely agree. I simply don't watch them.
If the original sucks, a reboot doesn't change history. If the original kicks ass, I'll just watch that one.
I don't get reboots. Has Hollywood run out of ideas? I mean, there are hundreds of new novels published every year.
ravenx99@reddit
Sometimes reboots are about reaching a younger audience put off by a franchise with a lot of history. Comics have done that a lot. And that's what the Star Trek movie reboot was about... literally changing history to give new viewers an entry point that didn't require viewing decades of TV and movies.
I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Ok_Television9820@reddit
Hollywood bean-counters are terrified of losing money on a project, and projects are more and more expensive because that’s the business model they’ve backed into. They need super-popular movies with blockbuster returns because it’s not the old days when people just went to a theatre ans expected a newsreel, a short, a B-movie, ans a feature. There are only features now. Big, expensive features, because why go to the theater for some cheap whatever thing?
And since they are terrified of not making huge returns they don’t want to take risks on new material. That want something proven to work, and they want franchise future returns. Hence, movies from video games, the MCU, the Extended MCU, the Other Superhero Things, Even More Superheroes, James Bond 26, Fast & Furious XXVII, movies from retro-cool TV shows, gender-flipped reboots of cult classics (I have nothing against this concept, but it’s another example of the process), reboots, and more reboots.
They might take a gamble and jump on some suprise smash hit book or game thinking it’s guaranteed gold, and then you get Ready Player One and Borderlands and a lot of people aren’t getting their phone calls returned. Nobody wants to be that guy.
ravenx99@reddit
I live in fear of the day they remake Star Wars. Disney is milking it too much as it is. We waited three years between movies, and it built character.
Someone threatened to remake The Princess Bride, and the original actors objected. There are few perfect movies in this world, it'd be a shame to ruin this one.
DRG28282828@reddit
Agree 100%! I think nothing lives up to the original films. There are no original ideas nowadays and movie options are terrible. Still no reason to ruin the great movies of the past.

They’d make it serious like they did with Total Recall and it will suck. The campiness of the originals is what make them fun.
jonvonfunk@reddit
An NC-17 independent non-studio remake of Repo Man.

I liked Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. It made sense. And it's not like the original made much sense. Only one problem: >!Monica Bellucci's character was just eyecandy!<.
Goonies is fine... theoretically.

As a die hard fan, I was initially not keen on the idea, but the more I've seen of The Rock playing comedic characters, I think he's capable of that goofy Jack Burton-style energy and could be fun to watch. A lot will depend on the writing, directing, and overall production to pull it off.
porkchopespresso@reddit
That's interesting, I've never heard about that. I like The Rock, I don't really care who is in it. But, the one thing I will say is The Rock is a bit of an action star and a large dude. It was believable that Kurt Russel had the ego of the main guy, but he was really just a bit in over his head. If he's supposed to be actually Jack Burton it might be a little too schlocky if he's to pull off being a 300lbs of muscle who's actually a sidekick with main guy confidence. But I don't care. I'll watch anything. Looks like they have the original writers attached to this one too.
ProfMeriAn@reddit
I think you're right that his large size/strength is more of detriment to pull off a Jack Burton your character. They'll have to make him a klutz or something.
Fantastic user name!
porkchopespresso@reddit
Cult favorite as it is, still kinda crazy there's enough perceived value in it for The Rock. But if attaching that dude to the movie gets it made then I'll let the writers worry about that other stuff. Count me in.
ProfMeriAn@reddit
I read an article somewhere where he talked about being a big fan of the movie. It's probably moving ahead because of him.
lawstandaloan@reddit
Brewster would have to spend a billion dollars this time around
SavaRox@reddit
Well, The Lost Boys attempted the sequels and I was definitely less than impressed. It was just not the same vibe at all.
MartoufCarter@reddit
There were sequels??
itsmrbill@reddit
There was a prequel and at least one sequel. Corey Feldman was in them. And I think the same actor plays his brother in the sequel. Otherwise, most of the actors from the original don't appear. Of course, most of them were vampires and killed in the first one
dethb0y@reddit
None i can think of, though i am curious how a "modern" swamp thing would look.
MxteryMatters@reddit
There is a short-lived Swamp Thing TV series from 2019 with just one season.
UltraMagat@reddit
Logan's Run.
I understand they started filming this year...
Who could compare to Jenny Agutter?
lawstandaloan@reddit
I'd go for a Remo Williams that more closely followed the books. They toned a lot of stuff down for the movie.
MxteryMatters@reddit
I'd rather have a TV series on a streaming service so they could tell more stories and not have to tone things down.
2cats2hats@reddit
YES!
This movie would be much more revered if they didn't water it down so damn much.
stupid-username-333@reddit
dont confuse a reboot with a sequel.
CitizenChatt@reddit

Life-Unit-4118@reddit
9 to 5. But that ship has sadly sailed.
KoreaMieville@reddit
I'd be down for a sequel to The Breakfast Club or one of those 90s comedies about young adults (Singles, Reality Bites) that dealt with old Gen Xer angst.
scarlettohara1936@reddit (OP)
I know, right? But what if it winds up being terrible? Like just awful terrible! Then we have to carry around the second movie in our head along with the amazing first movie. But I guess that's the chance We take with all of these reboot kind of movies.
KoreaMieville@reddit
I hear you! I know logically that this shouldn't matter, but I've had movies "ruined" by terrible sequels because I can't watch the original without constantly thinking about the bad sequel.

Not an 80s/90s movie, but a new version of Flesh and the Devil could be awesome.
Sitting_pipe@reddit
I hated Twister and loved Beetleguise!!! Top Gun Maverick was incredible
scarlettohara1936@reddit (OP)
I really enjoyed Balboa and Cobra Kai, though only the first two seasons, it lost me after that. It was so nice to see that Daniel went on to a successful and happy life which still included his mom. As someone who was bullied, it was cathartic to see that Johnny never really moved on past high school... But very heartwarming and satisfying to see that he learned to become a better person.
The reboot, or continuation, or sequel, whatever they are being called, of a Christmas Story was heartwarming, but not great.
Sitting_pipe@reddit
I agree as well, Cobra Kai should have ended 3 seasons ago.
Raineyb1013@reddit
Not interested. It seems like generally speaking the reboots seem to have nothing in common with the original aside from the name. The 21 Jump Street movie was terrible. They could have had called it anything else and be perfectly fine.
scarlettohara1936@reddit (OP)
IDK. It was pretty cool to see what became of Maverick from Top Gun and see Val Kilmer, possibly for the last time, on the big screen again.
I also adored Balboa. I thought it was a fantastic and fitting end to Rocky's illustrious career. Plus, it spun into the wildly popular "Creed" series of movies.
discogeek@reddit
I haven't seen the new Beetlejuice yet, but one of my friends who is a *huge* fanatic loved it. And the new Top Gun sucked donkey balls. Different strokes, different folks.

Judgy-Introvert@reddit
Twisters isn’t technically a reboot though. It’s a standalone sequel. I agree with the other comment about rebooting films that weren’t too successful the first time around. Give them a second chance to gain a following.
redhotbos@reddit
It’s a reboot of the franchise building off the original.

Yeah, Beetlejuice II is a real turd. Too bad Dafoe didn't save some of that Platoon money. Shame on Ryder and Keaton!
scarlettohara1936@reddit (OP)
I thought the same about Keaton!! He's done some pretty awesome things in the last 10 years or so. Like award winning things. There absolutely cannot be a shortage of fantastic rolls for him to choose from. Yet he chose Beetlejuice 2. He can't need the money, so maybe it was the nostalgia that drove the decision? IDK. But it was awful!
Ryder? Yeah. She phased out a while ago. I know she's doing Stranger Things, but I don't think she's all that in the series. She probably needed the money. And now we know why she phased out! 🤣
QuiJon70@reddit
Think you are confusing what a reboot is. Fall Guy would be considered a reboot of the old TV series. Updated for current times.
Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Top Gun Maverick, Twisters etc are sequels. And have you ever thought it's you? Because I know no one so far that liked Twisters and no one that disliked Beetlejuice 2. Even their rotten tomato score are pretty equal
scarlettohara1936@reddit (OP)

I disagree. The protagonist, not Val Kilmer's character, is great, most of the supporting cast is as well. The slimy steal credit professor, the suck up bully/tattletale. Other performers who supported the overall tone. It's always been one of my favorite movies and Val Kilmer was great in it, but not the only one.

They made movies much differently in the 80s, and you simply can't make them like that anymore. Anything I've seen has been shit...or, at the very least, incredibly disappointing. Twisters, Hocus Pocus 2, Coming 2 America, Axel F, etc...
