It really felt like we had a shot back then.

I did that but with possibly ADHD I wouldn't even let songs finish before I cut into another song.
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
Hahaha who needs the rest? They already heard the good part.
Narrow_Garbage_3475@reddit
Made mixtapes with a collection of Whitney Houston’s - I will always love you and other early nineties lovesongs as a 12 years old boy for my girlfriend. Recorded voice overs between songs to express my love for her, haha. The naivety of it all, haha
Solid-Hedgehog9623@reddit
Oof. I made a mix tape with commentary between songs. I bet it was the entertainment for a few slumber parties🤦🏽♂️. Yeah bro, she knows who the fuck sings ‘(Everything I Do) I Do It For You.’ It was on mtv like 10 times a day.
el_pyrata@reddit
I included a couple 3x5 notecards explaining why I chose each song. Some explanations were longer than others; and I’m pretty sure I just wrote “Duh!” for one of the songs.
SlapHappyDude@reddit
The problem with commentary is the same as the "funny" bits that used to be prevalent in rap records between songs. Even if it's clever the first time, by the tenth time it is not.

I would literally give anything to hear this. This is important media.

I sent a boy I liked a mix tape with The Cure, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, and so forth. The first track was called I'll Fall With Your Knife, and I creepily told him it made me think of him. He was probably worried I was going to murder him and keep his corpse under my bed.
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
It’s either right or it isn’t, and you put yourself out there darn it!
Nem-x13@reddit
Every time someone asked me to make them a mix tape I would include “When I think about you, I touch myself “ somewhere mixed in the middle. Didn’t matter what kind of music. I got it off the Austin Powers soundtrack.
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
That is very smooth hahahahaha
thorneparke@reddit
Each song on this mixtape will show her who I really am and what I'm really all about. What you'll be hearing for the next 90 minutes IS ME, because who I am can't be put into words, only songs...

Hootie was the audiobook for clinical depression and I’m glade we all made it through…mostly.
Knightelfontheshelf@reddit
we need Counting Crows and some DMB
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
Oh, they’re definitely on there…
Dick-Guzinya@reddit
If you put Crash by DMB as the closer to side 1, you’re so in.
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
Good call.
PresDumpsterfire@reddit
Throw that shit straight in the garbage where it belongs. This is what the Romio + Juliet sound track is for.

I ONLY WANNA BE WITH YOOOOUUUUUUUJJHH

I use to be a hopeless romantic. Don’t be a hopeless romantic.
draculawater@reddit
Well, there's an embarrassing flashback to that time I made a girl a mixtape that included Montell Jordan's "I Wanna". Wasn't expecting that today. Yeesh.
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
I guess kids today have Spotify playlists, but I still feel bad for them because there’s nothing like the impact of a physical copy to really guilt someone into listening to it.
draculawater@reddit
There’s something about the amount of time it took to make a tape too. You didn’t just drag and drop songs to a playlist, you sat through each song and had to stop recording at just the right time.
deowolf@reddit
I didn't come to the internet today to be attacked like this. Right to my very soul, damn.
valuethempaths@reddit
Yeah, really. Doomscrolling is about politics NOT my cringe memories.

I love this song, but hate Pachebel's Canon. I played tuba in high school and it got pretty monotonous playing the same 2 measures like 256 times.
ThreeCrapTea@reddit
I can still karokae to that like a bad ass, that third verse, i got it locked, memorized. It's the one karaoke thing I got in life.
Suck it in suck it in if you're rin tin tin or Anne bolyn...make a desperate move unless you win, and then begin...to see what you see in me so desperately I sing to thee...
Fuck
faderjockey@reddit
This MTV is not for free So desperately I sing to thee of LOVE! SURE! But also rage and hate and pain And fear of self. And I can’t keep this feeling on the shelf. I’ve tried.
ThreeCrapTea@reddit
Well no in fact I lied
Cheapchard9@reddit
Should have been David Matthews Band. The moms were on that.
EternalSunshineClem@reddit
I once called an ex I wanted back and serenaded him by singing with a guitar on an answering machine.
He wasn't worth that kind of trouble but I love how romantic and hopeful I used to be.
Old-Cheesecake8818@reddit
That is so very kind... That would have made my teenage heart melt.
numb3r5ev3n@reddit
I got one with a bunch of Gordon Lightfoot on it. TBF I do like Gordon Lightfoot.
EchoFloodz@reddit
Idk, man. I can count at least 3 mix tapes that’s gotten me laid.
Atillion@reddit
We did, man. John Popper could mesmerize anyone.
badmongo666@reddit
Holy hell I remember curating 90 minute (or even 120 minutes if I'm not misremembering, which certainly possible) punk compilation tapes, and yes sometimes for girls I liked. That's like 50 goddamn songs lol. Only dumber thing I did to try to get girls to notice me was not eating meat for 15 years (that didn't work, either).
