S05E02 The Grand Tour: Eurocrash
Jeremy, Richard and James head to Central Europe on a road trip nobody has ever thought of, in cars nobody would ever dream of. This epic 1400-mile journey takes them from Gdańsk in Poland, through Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. They sample some Soviet style Formula 1, are attacked by deadly archers, recruit a famous racing driver and take part in a spectacular Fast and Furious climax.

“Be less fat”🤣🤣🤣
tpence1982@reddit
Yesssss, when Clarkson says, my arse is this far away from the seat and Hammond says, "Oh dear..", something about the way he said it just CRACKED ME UP.
djg88x@reddit
https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1947-crosley-convertible-1
found the auction for James' Crosley, seems to have sold last May
AdPure5348@reddit
Didn't James say that he brought the Crosley when he was drunk? Hasn't anyone else noticed the "sold" date on the auction site?!?
iHoller913@reddit
Love that it was purchased from a museum. Would love to hear the guy who lovingly restored and saw James hit a security gate 20ft from the start
TheOnlyBongo@reddit
Honestly I have to wonder. On one hand someone poured a lot of time and soul into that restoration and foe it to end up like that at the end. On the other hand it is such a piece of shit to drive and so hilarious to watch.
biggles0fthe266@reddit
he drove right into it! didnt even try to turn until he hit it. i wonder if vis is terrible in there or what
Arbordaymascot@reddit
I’d love a series like cars of the people but about the well intentioned flops in the motoring industry.
Haacker45@reddit
Sort of funny to me that he bought it off this site which is partially owned by current Top Gear host Chris Harris
Tooch10@reddit
If he bought it from Cars and Bids we might get to see Doug DeMuro's Quirks And Features
Thisath@reddit
He did say well-known as auction site! haha.
Qwerkies@reddit
Hope they did not anger the Crosley owner’s club
BungleBungleBungle@reddit
All five members were furious
mr_greenmash@reddit
Well, at least they've moved away from the helicopter piano moving service.

“There is no known bodywork damage”
Welp
SD_One@reddit
It does look bigger in the pictures.
IlliterateJedi@reddit
That's what she said
Typical_Pin_6484@reddit
So... I know I'm late to this but I've watched this show probably hundreds of times as an American.. Can anyone explain the iron curtain joke Jeremy said in the beginning
Thejmax@reddit
Do you know what the iron curtain is?
Basketro@reddit
Why do they say the Titties'n'beer car has an in line engine but when they open it's clearly a V8 inside?
Seductive_Avocado@reddit
I know this is a year old post but I just spent the past 10 mins reading through this whole thing, and another 10 before it googling trying to find anyone mention this exact thing. I wasn't sure if I was just crazy or what.
Powerful_Hearing8015@reddit
✅Maybe someone recreated this Eurocrash trip? We would love to go with friends, would be lovely to know roads and which locations/restaurants they visited! 🙏🏽🏁
FlipStig1@reddit
Overall, this was a great special to watch from beginning to end! The hosts even managed to sneak in a “car review” or two without skipping a beat as a nice throwback to what they did in previous seasons and their old BBC car show.
As for the memorable part (that hasn’t been mentioned on this thread yet), for me, it happened when Clarkson got stuck in the Soviet-era racing car and Hammond told him to “be less fat!” How the rest of that segment played out after that had me dying with laughter… 😅🤣
Milospesh@reddit
It's scenes like that that make me love these guys, it's how you can tell whats real and whats scripted.
clarkson lost for words and sheepish.
hammonds' i think they put your dignity in the garage over there ' was icing on the cake.
Jondare@reddit
Yeah that whole part was PURE "Friends riffing on each other"
longshot201@reddit
You could feel revenge for the years of short jokes directed at Hammed coming out there lol
Milospesh@reddit
or the teeth whitening kit/ hair plugs/ dye.
QF_Dan@reddit
i normally don't laugh when people call someone fat but in the case of Grand Tour, i started laughing way too hard when Hammond made fun of him
timzecho@reddit
I think Jeremy was super embarrassed that he wouldn't fit and Richard kept poking fun of it and calling him fat.
pm_me_cute_sloths_@reddit
I realized near the end that a lot of them were throwback bits or callbacks, or at least I assume that was the intent with some of them. The race at the end felt like that was somewhat of the intent, May trying to race Clarkson and Hammond at least to x location
GreggS87@reddit
He told me he was too tall!
Academic_Fun_5674@reddit
I think it was both. Too tall to get in, to fat to get out.
omega2010@reddit
That nearly went over my head. It took me a minute to realize Jeremy lied to James off-camera.
EducationalLie4889@reddit
Do you know what ski jump location that was? Planica?
GoofyDandelion@reddit
I loved the recounting of countries they're collectively banned from.
livelikeian@reddit
But did you love their womanly map hands?
GoofyDandelion@reddit
Yes it cracked me 😄 it's at the same time a jab at the increasingly politically correct times and a little wave to rainbow folk.
alphamachina@reddit
Anyone know what the song is at 49 minutes, the moment they get to Krakow and it shows the main square with Wawel castle. It's a beautiful instrumental piece and I can't seem to find it anywhere.
RedRockRun@reddit
How'd they get away with stealing Nigel Mansell?
QF_Dan@reddit
with Hammond new accent
meridius55@reddit
Knowing Hungary is the least interesting of all the places they visited in this special (boring geography, no motorsport culture) my expectations were low but I was still disappointed they managed to dedicate a whopping 10 minutes of "rubiks cube, goulash, archers" segment from a nearly 2 hours long special
QF_Dan@reddit
i'm surprised they didn't even go to Hungaroring
FaithWillOutCum@reddit
Why they said "We banned from Turkey." ? I don't remember anything they did something controversial in Turkey. They just wear bulletproof vests in SouthAsia part of Turkey. I wish they come here in some day I really wanna see them in real life as a fan in Turkey.
QF_Dan@reddit
That means no trip to Istanbul circuit.....
StephenHunterUK@reddit
Clarkson has probably insulted Erdogan at least once in his columns and that man is tetchy.
qristjan@reddit
Why did Jeremy's car seat change so much between some takes?
QF_Dan@reddit

magikarp-sushi@reddit
Is there a reason they haven’t gone to Japan I’m unaware of?
QF_Dan@reddit
Hammond came to the wrong country due to his fish hatred
Borkton@reddit
Hammond doesn't like fish.
blasphemy1000@reddit
They did for the GTR vs bullet train race in another life.
ivosr@reddit
When they were looking at map in The biginning of the episode, I was thinking, god would Be awesome if They come to Brazil (my country) and drive cars made specific for our country. Please Amazon make this happen!
Ilpav123@reddit
They've been to South America a few times, but never Brazil for some reason...it's the biggest country they've never been to (5th biggest in the world).
ivosr@reddit
Yeah, It would Be Nice see they talking how trash our cars and road are... Anyway, I've got curious why they cant go to many asia cointries
QF_Dan@reddit
They were planning to come to Malaysia in one of the articles in 2019 but the pandemic following year pretty much killed all hopes for that
MadMan1244567@reddit
A mega trip trip from going from Florianópolis-Sao Paulo-Rio de Janeiro-Ouro Preto-Belo Horizonte then up into the centre west and finally into the Amazon (or the other way around) with cheap older cars that used to be popular in South America (eg Chevrolet Astra, Fiat Uno, etc) would be an all time great - you’d get a combination of developed global cities, amazing driving roads and difficult spots in the north.
The reason they can’t do this is because i believe in Brazil you need a permit and partnership with a local media entity to film as a foreign company. There’s quite a lot of bureaucracy involved with this.
But I think they should absolutely do it. Brazil is a huge, diverse country and would make for an amazing multi part special.
ivosr@reddit
I didn't know that a local crew was needed to film, what a shame... It would Be nice seen the trio driving Gol, Uno and Celta. I think the tour could be ride all the BR-101 (highway that cross Brazil north to south) ending at The border of Argentina...
MadMan1244567@reddit
Wow yes that would be amazing actually - but they should start a bit further up than Natal, in São Luís I think, and they could deviate from the BR-101 into MG after BA before going down into RJ
Also they’d have to deviate to go into São Paulo city
But yeah that would be epic
Even though there’s only a few episodes left I’m still hoping they manage to do Brazil…
Milospesh@reddit
did you notice the hands ?
ivosr@reddit
Are you talking about the painted nails or something else?
Milospesh@reddit
both
Fishinabowl11@reddit
Amazon in the Amazon!
candinos@reddit
Did they use the Fast and Furious runway?
Milospesh@reddit
thats not long enough for may to win.
jzn110@reddit
Why would the rear bay be open if it was taking off?
Besides, no aircraft that large can take off at a speed slow enough for the Crosley to make it onto the ramp.
The viewers know it's a gag, the trio knows it's a gag, might as well just make the self-aware joke and get it over with.
TheNittanyLionKing@reddit
I thought for sure that May was going to get out and the Crosley would roll off behind the trio and crash. I laughed even harder when it rolled off with May still in it though.
QF_Dan@reddit
When the car died and he starts falling back, i was expecting the plane to take off
RogueA@reddit
One of the aerial shots was literally featuring a CG plane and James's car, lmao
jzn110@reddit
What plane? You mean the one they were all rolling up into? That wasn't CGI; that was the actual aircraft rolling down the runway at a speed slow enough for James to roll up in it.
RogueA@reddit
Yes, however some of the shots were clearly CG.
jzn110@reddit
... what about that shot makes it CGI?
RogueA@reddit
The shadows and reflections are entirely too 'clean' and unrealistic. The motion shake is entirely too smooth. The motion itself is too smooth, especially compared to the actual shots of the plane.
It's very obviously a simple CG shot because they didn't get enough B Roll to fill the scene's pacing. It's easy to tell if you've watched a decent amount of stuff folks have put together in Blender with the explosion of short films on youtube lately.
jzn110@reddit
It's possible, but steadycams generally take really smooth footage.
That you can see the runway stripe reflecting off the rightmost engine as it's rolling forward makes me think it's authentic rather than a CGI plane dumped on an aerial shot of the runway. But who knows.
m0nty555@reddit
Don’t forget to drag that joke out for 15 minutes. Honestly, don’t understand why they keep going for those dirty gags.
potatohead657@reddit
exactly. and if it wasn't clear enough they still mentioned the long runway thing verbally. it's a bit. What I liked about this episode is that scripted stuff weren't being pushed as if they had happened organically, which made them just as entertaining instead of annoying
jzn110@reddit
This episode felt a lot more organic, which also means that that the planned/scripted bits were a lot better.
Lov88@reddit
The road from Bled to Maribor (where that airport is located) is also just a highway, and it loads of footage from a completely different part of Slovenia.
VonReposti@reddit
That explains why I was confused. I recognised Bled and I recognised Maribor but none of the footage in between.
Lov88@reddit
Considering they came from Hungary, the airport segment would've been made first since it's only a short drive from the border. Afterwards you'd move the production towards Bled and Planica for the ski jump stunt, and most likely leave for UK from Ljubljana Brnik airport when done.
No_Doubt_About_That@reddit
I don’t need titties and beer, I’ve got family.
RoyMunsun@reddit
I'm just glad Jezza signed off with "until next time". I was a little worried when they did a run down of all they places they wanted to, but couldn't go. The way the political landscape seems to be imploding all over the world. I can imagine its getting increasingly hard to film, let alone keep their edgy sense of humour. It is such a great show, because they are sincerely good friends, who enjoy each other's company, and that comes out on film.
QF_Dan@reddit
They haven't gone to Brazil yet, wish they go there too
LupineChemist@reddit
I'd say one of the biggest opportunities is Mexico. Extremely varied landscapes and culture, lots of size, safety is generally fine there now if you stay away from the border.
Northwest Territories and ice roads in Canada or Dalton Highway in Alaska. A trip across Thailand. Ethiopia/Kenya/Tanzania. Lots of West Africa is perfectly fine these days. Like Dakar to Lagos would be pretty cool. Don't know the legality given sanctions but Brits can visit just fine of doing Iran. Also Middle east with Saudi Arabia opening up, driving across the Arabian peninsula, Muscat to Amman sort of thing.
In short, I can come up with lots of interesting ones and that's just spitballing by myself for 5 minutes. I get insurance almost certainly wouldn't have allowed it, but it would have been cool if they popped into Ukraine for a bit, even to show the sort of war effort in Lviv.
michaelloda9@reddit
Ironically it looks like the places Clarkson mentioned will actually be the places they will go to, Sahara checks out
jamesdeandomino@reddit
Cairo-Casablanca has always been my dream route to drive/bike through. I wonder if they'd do it and if so, how they'd handle Libya.
funfwf@reddit
Too logistically fraught. Libya, yes, but also Algeria and Morrocco have closed borders to each other.
StephenHunterUK@reddit
They did Syria for a Top Gear Christmas special just before the war broke out.
GreggS87@reddit
Ukraine just before the invasion in 2014.
LibraryBestMission@reddit
They went to Sweden in scandi flick, and now swedes can't get into NATO.
KnightsOfCidona@reddit
They actually filmed in Kyiv the day the Euromaidan protests began (Jeremy makes reference to a protest in voiceover). He said on Have I Got News For You a few months later that when he returned to London, he told the editor at the Times he didn't think anything will come of it!
DasCiny@reddit
Hold on to your butts, Poland. The three horseman of death have rode.
michaelloda9@reddit
"For this show we thought we'd drive across the Sahara, we can't, too much terrorism"
HMMM, interesting isn't it... Then he mentioned Egypt and going from Bangladesh to Mount Everest. I'm thinking if this isn't foreshadowing then. There's nothing I'd want more than TGT special in South Asia.
Also, 1h46 thank fucking god I'm going to enjoy this
QF_Dan@reddit
Speaking of South East Asia, part of me wished they went back to Japan again to do some tour especially at race tracks like Fuji or Suzuka.
LupineChemist@reddit
There was an India special when still with Top Gear. Jeremy is really banned from India.
michaelloda9@reddit
That one was mediocre. I want to see a TGT special, which means better production and modern quality, and in the more remote parts of Himalaya and Nepal. I don’t believe he’s actually banned from India, the evidence is lacking, even if there are some problems I’m sure Amazon can manage. Or they can just go to Nepal and avoid India.
ZizZizZiz@reddit
The grand finale of Grand Tour really should be a ride off into the sunset version of the opening of the very first episode with all the cars they drove along the way joining in.
michaelloda9@reddit
Yeah, something like that would be very cool
OldButtIcepop@reddit
It was amazing. Well worth the wait.
Next up, waiting for Clarkson's farm
Chief-Aldo@reddit
Have Amazon not stoped all work with Clarkson? No more GT or Clarkson’s Farm…. Did that not get announced in Feb?
OldButtIcepop@reddit
I looked it up. It's unclear if they will make new seasons. But we will get at least season 3 in 2024
rhb4n8@reddit
Going to be a while I'm betting January
fudgeller83@reddit
I believe he said recently filming wraps up in October, so I reckon it'll be April/May for Clarkson' s Farm.
Our Man In India wrapped up filming before they filmed Mauretania. I believe Japan was filmed around the same time of year, so that could be a January release like India was.
Mauretania....I think this could as easily be Christmas or next year. We've seen they can edit an episode in 6 months, but I almost wonder if they're more likely to wait if they don't have another film in the pipeline yet
rhb4n8@reddit
I'm really looking forward to more our man in ... James is brilliant at that
Bestrang@reddit
It's a bit weird, they have Hammond and May pushing Clarksons car out of a hole in the desert as the background image when it's not in the actual show
michaelloda9@reddit
Yeah, either there was something wrong with the footage or just wasn't good enough to include it, the episode is already 1h46min long... Or maybe they were just doing photos there, who knows.
Felatio-DelToro@reddit
They once again proved you don't need an exotic location or dangerous conditions to be delightfully entertaining.
QF_Dan@reddit
If they film themselves going through a local mall talking about the most random things, i will still watch it
-NickFlores-@reddit
The trio could walk around Tesco aisles for hour and a half and make it just as entertaining
jzn110@reddit
"Hello, horse. I shall call you 'Tesco.'"
HappyBunchaTrees@reddit
I've bought a reversing horse.
PayneTrain181999@reddit
Literally just watched the Burma special before putting this one on!
“Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.”
KingKookus@reddit
Exactly. They could do just about anything in cars together and make it entertaining.
blumirage@reddit
I died laughing whenever they did the Nigel Mansell impression
michaelloda9@reddit
In that ski resort, I was waiting for a Stig line. "Let's see now what it can achieve in the hands of a master. Some say..." etc.
QF_Dan@reddit
Imagine if they got Robert Kubica to make a cameo
shaggyjong@reddit
I don’t believe they have the ‘rights’ to The Stig any more
michaelloda9@reddit
Well yeah they don’t of course
Milospesh@reddit
oh they should have had a 'polish stig' wax model that looked bad !
jzn110@reddit
The whole wax museum scene had me in tears.
m0nty555@reddit
Honestly, it’s because they were not reading off shitty script. Wax museum and Jeremy being stuck in the race car were the only funny bits
michaelloda9@reddit
The whole episode had me in tears
steffie-flies@reddit
They're back to form and this special was hilarious.
karltee@reddit
I cant believe we may have to wait another year before we see another.
QF_Dan@reddit
and then another year for the Zimbwabwe
Lint6@reddit
That Slovakian car...plane...thing...was insane
QF_Dan@reddit
i wanted to drive the car and then let someone pilot the plane part. It could be the best experience ever
ArcadianBlueRogue@reddit
Oh okay, so it'll be some insane hyper car that will...that will...oh wow. That was fucking cool.
Pascalwb@reddit
It's kind of a gimmick. Not a proper car not a proper plane.
Aironwood@reddit
It drives and flies though now, does it not? On proper roads and between airports, I’d call that success.
paultheparrot@reddit
The company that designed it declared bankruptcy, so...
not anymore I'm afraid.
Abetok@reddit
It's a bit of a gimmick but it actually makes sense if it's reasonably affordable in the sense that you can go faster than on a highway, as the crow flies, and then you don't have to rent a car on the other end of your journey and don't have to pay hangar fees or anything like that.
Private planes are a massive hassle and expense for how little they get used generally
Candid_Tie_7659@reddit
Surely you'd still need a pilot's licence to fly it though? Doesn't exactly have a huge market.
Abetok@reddit
Not the point though. Honestly the biggest thing would be preflight checks
Candid_Tie_7659@reddit
Especially if James is flying it.
StephenHunterUK@reddit
There was a guy in the 1970s who combined a Cessna Skymaster with a Ford Pinto. During a test flight, a wing strut broke during a turn and the craft disintegrated, killing the two creators.
Mataskarts@reddit
Why are people surprised by it? It's been announced and shown off YEARS ago and made rounds on the internet then everyone realized it's really stupid and it went away.
Lint6@reddit
News flash... Not everyone has seen the same things you have
Mataskarts@reddit
I mean it was quite big news, took over all news outlets and memes flooded social media...
I still don't get the answer to the question WHY does it exist.
Bestrang@reddit
Why do super cars exist? Why do hovercraft exist?
jzn110@reddit
This was the first I saw of it, and I was rather impressed.
Eli1234Sic@reddit
I really wanted may to get to fly it!
Wearytraveller_@reddit
The air car is amazing!!!
BigRig432@reddit
The medical car bit had me dying holy shit
QF_Dan@reddit
i laughed too hard at that scene, Hammond sleeping under the sun waiting is even funnier
michaelloda9@reddit
Reminds me of the ambulance challenge in Top Gear... "And now, coup de grace"

I nearly died laughing from that episode. I love just thinking about it.

Jeremy trying his hardest to not lose his absolute shit when May stalled it on the Pit Lane. Incredible.
MurderGiraffe19@reddit
Oh my god, it's killing me
SD_One@reddit
Poor May. That must have been miserable.
RoyMunsun@reddit
I was thinking that about halfway through as well. He literally missed everything, cause of his crappy car choice!
QF_Dan@reddit
Wish he didn't "cheat" by using the hotrod to catch up the field and then had his revenge on the two which were pointless and not too funny
Milospesh@reddit
i doubt it he actually did miss anything, it was just played up for lols.
Y2KillingJoke@reddit
He did miss most of the visiting spots though. It was mentioned in an article written by both Bim and Clarkson, which is currently on the front page of the subreddit.
mugu007@reddit
Took me a second when you said Bim, especially since it very much looks like a typo.
No_Doubt_About_That@reddit
Only one of them would know Shijo-Ohashi though.
It’s a bridge representative of Kyoto that crosses the Kamo River over Shijo Street. It is also called Gion Bashi.
wtfingyourmom@reddit
Hey bim guess what
HumanByProxy@reddit
RoBoHon, tell me something interesting.
But not the bit about the bridge or I'll throw you out the window.
Arbordaymascot@reddit
Wuu wuu wuu
Rikuddo@reddit
Hey bim guess what
Milospesh@reddit
and you believed it ?
You do realise they're staying ' in character ' ?
Do you seriously think may would sign up for a road trip of misery/ frustration/ pain/ suffering/ nerve shredding terror ?
If you and others do believe this, then i have some magic beans for sale.
Y2KillingJoke@reddit
May has suffered more in Madagascar tbh
Ahorsenamedcat@reddit
And again that was part of the script. You think James is that much of a idiot to make these car choices? It’s all part of the written joke.
Trickster289@reddit
They've done worse. Seamen and Madagascar both had rougher moments and that's just since they went specials only.
Loudergood@reddit
Syria.
lsguk@reddit
Money.
Milospesh@reddit
money ?
which is highly dependant on being able to spend it.
Nesp2@reddit
He actually missed seeing Lake Bled.
I remember a radio guy did an interview with them last year. He did it in the morning at the hotel they were staying at Bled and I thought it was strange how May wasn't there.
Milospesh@reddit
Just because may 'couldn't be bothered / was too tired / too busy' to show up doesn't mean he wasn't there.
If you'd driven for miles in a crosley scared to death, annoyed, worn out, and in pain you'd say ' piss off, let me sleep'.
Bottom line : if they script the show why not an interview to keep the 'illusion' of the special alive.
RoyMunsun@reddit
True
dragnabbit@reddit
I'm pretty sure they were out there for a month filming this episode, getting the weather conditions right, going back over shots, waiting for and planning events, things like that.
FSMDxb@reddit
i'm pretty sure that was all scripted, May is too intelligent to actually pick a 70 year old car for a 1000 mile roadtrip
inno7@reddit
Amazing special. I wish they had given May a decent car. It is getting a bit tiring seeing him always with the shitty car and he misses the conversations with the other two.
Loading2121@reddit
You do realise it’s all staged, don’t you?
They just shoot a couple of scenes before being helicoptered onto the next location
Oh well, at least fools like you think he would really choose that car for a 1400 miles road trip
devadander23@reddit
Related to that recent article with James saying this is coming to and end; PICK A BETTER CAR. No wonder you’re miserable doing these. Your car is awful. Who would do a 1400 mi road trip in a car that can’t crack 40 mph? Cmon.
LazyGandalf@reddit
They were supposed to pick cars nobody would use on a road trip.
devadander23@reddit
I understand the premise. That car wasn’t road worthy however
sidekwest@reddit
it truly is a terrible car but that's what made it so special for me. seeing may board that aircraft in the crosley has got to be one of my favorite gt/tg moments ever.
paultheparrot@reddit
I disagree. I actually think it ruined the entire episode.
Nevermind the unfunny and embarrassing "revenge" that James May enacted (which he definitely did on his own without any help from anyone whatsover and was not scripted in any way) it destroyed the entire pace of the episode. Sure, listening to May complain was fun - for about 30 seconds - but the joke got old real quick. And titties&beer was just more of the same.
Clearly the Amazon production crew realised this wasn't going to work halfway through filming and had James swap to the hot rod. Unfortunately, that didn't help much either.
If you think about the most successful specials, you're probably thinking Bolivia, Argentina, Burma. What made these episodes great was that they had a set of rules at start they had to abide by - a limited budget or a forced category (supercars, lorries).
What connects a 1947 city car, a Frankenstein's Nissan and an american V8 convertible/pickup? Nothing. There's no connection. There's no competition. Clearly May's car was the worst but it was always going to be. Clarkson's and Hammond's cars were a complete afterthought. The only time I actually physically registered Hammond's car was at the end when it broke down. Up until then, nothing. Only the Crowley had any air time and like I said before, the joke got really old really fast.
I don't understand why they couldn't have just copied the formula that worked. Give them a budget and force them to buy a car built behind the iron curtain before 1989. There's hundreds of options. There's old Skodas, there's Fiats (polski), there's Yugos, there's many, many cars that would have been comparable AND interesting.
Make the show about the presenters AND the cars. Trying to do presenters OR cars doesn't work. It's boring. They have nothing to work with if you spend 95% of your time on the motorway.
I had such high hopes for the Grand Tour but it's turned into a disjointed, overscripted mess that doesn't know what it's supposed to be anymore.
ryanmcgrath@reddit
100% this.
Imaginary-Round2422@reddit
Mongolia!
za_shiki-warashi@reddit
Yeah, I completely agree. I also didn't quite like the final act needing them to make it into the plane. The show worked best when it's just them having their little (mis)adventures, not trying to act like they're in some Hollywood action movie.
TeaProgrammatically4@reddit
I wouldn't go so far as to say it ruined the entire episode, but I do agree that they need to mix James in properly. Jeremy and Richard are too similar, and usually have vehicles that perform similarly, it's less fun to just watch people agreeing with each other all the time.
Ok-disaster2022@reddit
I liked the budgets and limited car choices in the Top Gear specials. It really resulted in some excellent head to heads and challenges along the way. The car from the Botswana special will remain a favorite of mine. Having Clarkson spend $100k on a replica boat was a bit of a letdown, especially when letting may pick the wrong kind of boat. The road boat could get you killed more than the wrong car, but even then it's like they're determined to give May the most dangerous vehicle.
sidekwest@reddit
to each their own. the typical grand tour format was getting stale for me. it was refreshing seeing them choose their own cars for once.
indian22@reddit
It's a good thing that runway was 26 miles long.
Pretend_Pension_8585@reddit
I think it's the same reason he wasn't present much in the previous episode. Some kind of health issues
-NickFlores-@reddit
I though James already suffered enough in Scandi Flick, poor guy
bdickie@reddit
And Seamen with his canal boat, and Madagascar with his super 7. Hopefully their new africa episode he makes a sensible choice
SpartanFishy@reddit
His car actually performed incredibly well in Madagascar though lol
bdickie@reddit
Car performed well but did a terrible job of making the journey anything close to comfortable
DoubleDexki2000@reddit
Same, its seems like he usually gets the worst of it in most of the specials, same as madagaskar one. It actually made me miserable knowing he missed all the spots on this trip and ruined it for himself, and slightly annoyed that knwing it's a 1400mile journey, he chose the slowest car that he could possibly find. Why oh why wouldn't James May for once make a choice that would make his trip slightly less miserable.
emptysoul365@reddit
He suffers for our amusement. Top bloke.
mr_greenmash@reddit
And he has long hair.. Is he the second coming?
emptysoul365@reddit
It's a distinct possibility.
TurdFurgeson18@reddit
It was kind-of miserable to watch as well. This “oh we have to stick to a tight schedule and leave may behind to drive brutally slow” and we just have to watch may suffer alone. And then the hot rod ends up being a shitter too.
Trucks driving past the crossly was funny every time though.
The best specials are when either they all have old turds or none if them do, and its a competition to see who has the best car.
Ahorsenamedcat@reddit
It’s been a bit of an annoying trend in more and more episodes. One of them “chooses” a absolutely horrible car just for the jokes.
ClubMeSoftly@reddit
Yeah, it was like Carnage A Trois, where it mostly seemed like a Jeremy And Richard special

At first it was a laugh to see May going 35 kph, but then he's seriously lagging behind and it's probably ruining the schedule so they had to have him ride in the fake hot rod just to keep the show going.

QF_Dan@reddit
I really love this episode. The road trip between Hammond and Clarkson, them visiting the places are pretty interesting to watch. I also laughed at James's struggle to drive his Crosley while being overtaken by traffic, it was so bad that he missed out on what the two were doing. The Formula Easter racing is fun to watch although i wish Hammond didn't cause trouble to everyone.
But then, it was somewhat ruined by James being a "cheater". Getting towed by Tities and Beer before driving the hotrod to catch the two is not too nice. Then of course, James would had his revenge on the two cars which were pointless.
I love the individual car segment. All three were really interesting especially the AirCar, that got me hooked.
The Nigel Mansell scene were funny too with Hammond using his accent to impersonate him. The archery segment was fun but i felt worried because the arrow might hit the three as Nigel unfortunately lost his head.
The last bit where the two tried to catch James was exciting and i was rooting for either Hammond or Clarkson to win and it should've ended with May getting left behind but nope.....they all drove into a plane that just landed.
It's a better special than Carnage A Trois and the Treasure Hunting One.

Good to see an SSR in an episode, one of my guilty pleasure cars!
It was good to see the cars not being totally mutilated.
Also funny to see a top gear reference lol
Overall, best TGT episode since the mongolian special, surpassing lochdown in my books
TheNittanyLionKing@reddit
I was just thinking that I kinda miss the 1950’s retro designs that became trendy in the early 2000’s even though none of those cars (the SSR, HHR, Prowler, and Thunderbird) aged all that well. Still, if someone made a truck that looked as beautiful as a 1953 to 1956 Ford F100 again with modern conveniences and safety equipment, I’d mortgage the house for that
404merrinessnotfound@reddit
I can see what you mean, but it just speaks to an era where manufacturers were willing to push the envelope on car design. Now all cars look the same apart from a few styling cues and with the exception of sports cars

Rollo8173@reddit
What was the TG reference? That they said “I’m in top gear”?
jzn110@reddit
Exactly the second time that phrase has been uttered on Grand Tour, whether in reference to the show or the actual technical term.
sensitivity_rut0rd@reddit
I think this is one of the best TGT specials they've made after they stopped doing the TG format on TGT. Simply because of how much fun bits there were (like the wax museum, countless sabotages, Formula Easter, the bit where they were attacked by Bulgarian archers) that made it much more memorable than Lochdown or A Massive Hunt.
Don't get me wrong, Scandi Flick was also great, but I just prefer Eurocrash more. We'll see if the Mauritania special will beat Eurocrash :D
Griffisbored@reddit
Am I the only one who found this special pretty underwhelming?
keithplacer@reddit
Yes. They really mailed this one in. I didn’t understand the ending, though to be fair I kept falling asleep through much of the last 30 minutes.
malevolentheadturn@reddit
It was god awful. This has to be the last one.
7Stringplayer@reddit
This is their best work since Mongolia. But my biggest complaint is still the lack of James. They gave him the slow, dinky boat in Cambodia and he was often far behind the other two. We lost him in Sweden due to the tunnel crash so for a good stretch of that special he wasn't with the other two. And now in this one they gave him the slow, dinky car again that had him miles behind the other two.
LupineChemist@reddit
I'd really like to know if they actually get to pick their cars or the producers come to them and say "here's what you'll be driving".
I suspect it's a mix between the two where the producers will basically say "here's a list of ridiculous cars we found for sale, pick one for the trip"
7Stringplayer@reddit
I've wanted to know as well. But the cars match their on-screen personalities a little too much for it to be completely up to them. It's likely the producers either giving them a list, or just outright buying the cars for them as saying "here you go." I can't imagine James having been on so many road trips before would've thought the Crosley was a good idea.
LupineChemist@reddit
I mean part of it is that they know they're choosing for their larger-than-life screen personalities, not what they'd actually like to do. Probably some kind of back and forth, but I also can't imagine them wanting to spend the time trying to find all the zaniest stuff at every car auction in the UK.

Unpopular opinion: I am a huge fan, but seen in the ”Eurocrash” the trio is getting really old and lazy somehow. There is no dynamism between them anymore, and the once mighty trio just throws tired, scripted-sounding puns at each other. The episode was utterly boring, compared to old specials (rewatched the Burma and the African special). Then I stumbled upon new TG’s Nepal special… and it was actually… good!
Bzzdarkbull@reddit
The worst episode since the specials reboot. Eurocrash? It was Poland Special. 2/3 of the movie was in Poland, in Slovakia they showed only an airfield (which can be anywhere) and used czech cars. Hungary? 1 scene, one of the worst scene in the 5 seasons, and a 5min nice cutscene from Budapest. Slovenia, a little bit longer and nicer cutscene in the Alps. The Bled lake prank could be set anywhere too.
Why didnot they went to Czechia from Poland, finishing in Prague. This was really degrading for the rest 3 countries.
And the opening theme, the russian folk style music? Englishmans really think that from Central Europe? That its only some leftover soviet garbage?
Tech-Architect@reddit

Thebritishdovah@reddit
It's alright but it just doesn't feel like a proper Grand Tour special or a Top Gear of old, Special. I think, because the lads have had virtually no restrictions, they have done everything they wanted with Amazon's backing and it's not as good as a Scandi Flick where it really is entertaining. Maybe, it's just because of the locations but it just felt lacklustre.
That said, James having a shit car to the point of getting into the back up car and realising it's even worse is just amusing. I think, the lads have pretty much reached the end of their roadtrip specials.
lilolaf__@reddit
I’ve had an idea and it might be stupid I don’t know but try blow it up. At the end of every grand tour episode they should create a website where they auction of each of the cars and the proceeds go to charity it would work and the cars don’t just go to a junk yard or just sit there.

This may be my favorite GT special...felt very old school for some reason. I think they did a great job of sort of acknowledging the scripted stuff with almost a wink wink, and then leveraging the humor of the situation.
It had gags, jokes, buffeting, pranks, a historical film, racing, drag racing, beautiful scenery/photography, and a lot of genuine humor and reactions. Their response to seeing Nigel Mansell was infectious. Also loved the wipers on James's car.

To be honest, I miss the original SPECIALS, even though they have moved on to the Grand Tour. For me, Mongolia was the best because it was all about the car and surviving the trip (like Mongolia, Colombia, old ones like Africa, Burma, Vietnam, and even Patagonia), not scripted racing challenges putted in between driving . I know they are getting old and has had to change a lot, but I do not feel it as much with each new episode and that makes me sad. And we all have to be prepared for the last episode to come as well.
In conclusion, I really look forward to each new episode and really enjoy it, but it feels like it's not like it was.

Ok_Roof_5896@reddit
I know they're all heavily scripted and have been for a long time, but the last two seasons (the last two episodes + Madagascar) are the first to really feel it.
Aside from the odd location pieces of which only the Soviet Formula cars were interesting, this seems like it could have been set anywhere - they were just driving on a highway, not really interacting with the country or their cars. Fake VFX (bolt) and SFX (horns, May's engine) really didn't help.
Scandi flick was super fake, but at least it had some plot; this one was just boring.
3/10
Severin_@reddit
Was anyone else thoroughly disappointed after hearing Clarkson reading off the list of cancelled ideas for this special?
After completing this one, I kept just imagining how much better this episode could have been if they had actually driven across the Sahara or through the Himalayas or something truly spectacular instead of driving through 4 heavily-frequented, first-world countries and a bunch of well-known tourist destinations that pretty much everyone in Europe has been to at some point.
It just felt a bottom-of-the-barrel plan Z backup idea that they really didn't have their hearts into making epic.
That and the James-not-keeping-up-with-the-other-two gag was God awful. We get it. He's slow and it's a sh*tty car.
Just have the three of them do all of the challenges together because it's a million times more interesting when the trio can participate in them together instead of cutting to James May being slow and behind every 2 minutes.
opposedeggs@reddit
I agree, a year wait and it was very lackluster
RangerPeterF@reddit
This was really a mixed bag for me. The general idea was pretty good, exactly how I would want a special to be. The ratio between them being on the road and the different hijinkswas perfect. The jokes and pranks were damn funny. But why on earth would anyone, be it he himself or a producer, let James take this car? Just as I feared since the trailer was released, he was way too slow most of the time. The thing I love most about the specials is the banter between the trio while they drive along in their somewhat shitty but still great cars, and James was missing for about two third of the episode. At least he went with the Hotrod for a while, but the constant complaining as if wasn't his fault from start to finish was a bit annoying. I really hope that his choice of car for the next one was better.
opposedeggs@reddit
He always chooses the shitty pensioner car choice every time and it's like he never learns lol. It's his fault tbh. I don't remember the last time he chose a car I would enjoy myself.

opposedeggs@reddit

IlliterateJedi@reddit
The wax museum was probably the hardest I've laughed at a Grand Tour bit in a long time. It just felt like they were straight up having fun for a change.
One thing I wonder about - Was the Hammond/oil thing scripted? I assume they the 'turn the car into an ambulance' bit after the crash, but maybe the actual nut and bolt was legit?
veevoir@reddit
That is something extremely risky for everyone racing. Oil on track makes it very unpredictable and people (who are not TG team) could really get seriously injured in crashes. Very doubtful that was for a scripted gag.
More possible that they scripted the ambulance gag afterwards, when they knew Hammond is ok.
Ok_Roof_5896@reddit
Aside from the dubious CGI on the bolt, the reactions/offs after were obviously planned. I know it's always been scripted to some extent, but this episode was so rife with obviously scripted stuff that it really ruined it for me, it wasn't even plausibly organic.

I'm a bit late to this. I'm sure that everybody got the "Italian Job" reference with the cars driving up the ramp at the end. But did anyone notice the very pointed reference when James says at 1:43:-
>"I can't do it. Shoot me, shoot me Allen!"
Although the subtitles mistakenly say "Hammond" instead of "Allen"
This is a reference to the 1978 British film "The Wild Geese" starring (amongst others) Richard Burton and Richard Harris.
They are attempting to escape at the end of the film in an airplane while being shot at. Richard Harris (younger people may know him as Professor Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films before being replaced by Michael Gambon) is wounded and can't get to the plane which is about to take off. He pleads with Allen to unalive him rather than let himself be captured. The actual quote is this:-
>"Allen, Allen, [unalive] me, for God's sake [unalive] me!"

Great special. This has had me wonder. I think they really miss doing car review episodes. Guys should do some car review episodes in the year. They're probably easier to film, can be done near home and just swap out the tent for their own conversation street in a yard. Talking about car news.
warlock415@reddit
People skipped those segments, and with the greater visibility that streaming game them, they could tell.
Impressive_Milk_@reddit
Maybe it’s just the incredibly long breaks between specials, or maybe it’s the fact that I watch Clarksons Farm and Oh Cook, but I just don’t quite feel the magic anymore with the trio. It’s like Hammond is an odd man out when I watch now.
Episode hit all the right notes and the intro with the women’s nails and the map is hilarious, but, I don’t know absence isn’t making the heart fonder for me I guess.
Schwartzy94@reddit
My only issue nowdays is that they feel more scripted. Just rewatched mongolia episode and while yes its stil scripted it doesnt feel like it as much.
I hope they would just do that kinds of go from point A to point B stuff. Still i think this was quite great episode and had that travel feel.
sailtheboats@reddit
I don't want to come across as a hater or anything. I enjoyed it, I had many good laughs at numerous parts. It bums me out to think that someday there will be a time when the three aren't filming anymore.
Sometimes though, the scripted parts were a little too scripted for me. I try to shut my brain off and just enjoy it for what it is, which it is is hilarious stuff. During the first half or so with May missing everything due to his poor car choice, there were times when I felt like maybe the GT team filmed a bunch of things without May and then later on had to figure out a way to tie a story behind why he wasn't there or barely there? Do we know when they are on one of these road trips from point A to point B they are actually doing that trip? Or is it possible at various times in a year they film these moments (soviet F1, Harry tunnel, etc.) and then later on piece it all together as one big coherent trip?
I understand that you have to suspend belief during these shows, but you'd think if they are actually doing this big road trip, May wouldn't pick such a horrible car for the job, and even if he actually did they would figure out a way to still keep him involved or still around the other two guys, as things are best when they are all together.
TLDR: I would need to rewatch but during the first half of this episode I kind of wondered if all three of them were really even together on this road trip or if some clever video editing magic made parts of this trip happen?
Schwartzy94@reddit
Im sure they are doing the trips and they have huge caravans of cars following them (film crew etc)
James missing stuff feels like scripted thing, maybe he did miss something at the start but i doubt he would do the journey on his own.
murdersquatch@reddit
I actually think this was overall some of the funniest stuff I've seen from these guys for awhile. Great special.
ArcadianBlueRogue@reddit
I adored James' little car and the out of the box thinking on it, but as soon as he said the engine size I knew Captain Slow was here and going nowhere fast.

Such amazing work on the show, but can’t help but feel sad hearing Jeremy say at the end, “we’ll see you next time”, knowing that since filming and his recent controversy there may not be a next time

JamieAubrey@reddit

This really feels like classic TG. One of the best TGT episodes, let alone specials.
MalHeartsNutmeg@reddit
I actually learned watching this that 'A girl like you' is from the mid 90s, I always thought it was a much older song.
Clairvoyanttruth@reddit
I loved the subtle joke of James saying he's "in top gear" and it's just loud noise and nothing happening; fucking fantastic.
PinkFloydsManicurist@reddit
Beahner@reddit
Look, at this point it’s just good to get the annual new batch of these three jackassing around. They did a lot of it this special, and I loved it.
Aside from the Crossly getting on the taxiing plane there wasn’t really anything that stretched reality.
It was nicest to see that the great direction and production of these places they went is still a strength for this show. The location shots blew me away and, as they do well, make me really want to go to these places.
This will be rewatchable for sure.
meem09@reddit
So just a stupid question, but is Gdańsk-Bled actually a very famous route or a route someone else famously did? They are repeating that no one has ever done this so often, I’m starting to feel like I’m missing a joke.
zararaka@reddit
No, it isn't. Actually, the speedway from Gdańsk to Poznań is quite new.

nakedyak@reddit
i’m 10 min and already cracking up.
HoppyGleek@reddit
We had to replay the first bit as the hands and fingernails were just too funny and distracting for the fam not to comment and laugh about.
SoSaysCory@reddit
What was the reason for it? I only noticed it the second time I watched and I couldn't stop laughing
HoppyGleek@reddit
Had to be intentionally distracting... But maybe a comment on them taking a pedestrian, touristy trip this time instead of a potentially life-threatening adventure? There have to be a dozen valid fan theories at this point. All I know is that it looked like it could've been a woman's hand or (even funnier) just a younger male's hand done up.
IlliterateJedi@reddit
I realized after they finished the bit that I had no idea where they were or where they were going because the hands were too distracting.
iHoller913@reddit
I do love that they did that—easier to follow and recreate the trip!

I love the guys and show. But if I'm honest, this episode was pretty weak. It had it's moments for sure. But James seemingly missing out on everything just came off as bullish. I know that kind of stuff is scripted and he didn't really miss out. I just find it more intertaining when all three are interacting with one another and enjoying themselves.
James's car was a nice gag. But the joke dragged on for too much and kept repeating itself. We get it. It is very slow and small. I ended up doing something I've never done during a Grand Tour episode. I paused it to check my phone!
I don't mean any ill will towards the guys nor crew. Seeing Richard, James, and Jeremy together is the highlight of every year for me. And I love each of their shows. But when it's a show of them together, I want to see them together. Not in every scene of course. To me, the best part of the episode was the wax museum. It also happens to be the only time all three are genuinely together. I don't count the race track because Richard spends most of it alone. The second was Richard's fat jokes at Jeremy's offense.
Anyway, last week....
StrawHatRiot@reddit
Yeah, I was surprised they carried this gag for so long. I legit thought they would eventually mod the car and replace the engine with something absurd so he would actually join them for the rest of the trip.
In the end May barely featured in it and it loses a little bit of the fun when they are not together.
SEspider@reddit
IKR?! I fully expected one of two things to happen. 1) James would fully dump it for the faster (bust still annoying) "titles and beer" car. 2) OR James would show up with the T&B car but with the other car's shell. That way he would still, technically, be driving it.
Watching James struggle the entire time was not entertaining to me.
StrawHatRiot@reddit
Yeah I thought that would happen after the formula 1 style race. Since that was around 30min into the episode, the car broke down like twice already and he was also left behind by that point. All the jokes were done at that point.
He then stays behind after that and I thought "ok he will show up with the engine of one of those cars in his or something" but no, just kept being slow and being left behind.
Lov88@reddit
Feels like pretty much everything is. Why, for example, do they pretend that they're surprised by cars' selection for the trips ... You can bet they were sitting behind the same desk, with the producers talking over options.
RedBull7@reddit
This runway is longer than the one in Fast and Furious.

Amazon have marked both the Scandinavian episode, and this one, as season 5. Scandinavia is ep 1, and Eurocrash is episode 2 of it.

natty1212@reddit
Is it just me, or does it always seem like they find excuses to split the trio up? Even back when they were doing the tent shows, it always seemed like at least one of them would not be around for a significant part of the show.

Cptn_Canada@reddit
I did notice that aswell.
Hixie@reddit
I was wondering what their safety plan was there!
Milospesh@reddit
same one they had for scandi flick . . .
i reckon the archery was partially faked, they used blunted arrows to bounce off the car and probs stuffed a few arrows on the targets after the run.
cos surely after scandi flick they wouldn't want to risk any harm ?
right ?
right ?!
Caridor@reddit
There were definitely holes in the bodywork. They weren't razor sharp war arrows but they wouldn't need to be. Those recurve bows pack a hell of a punch and those arrows would still be travelling at a hell of a clip.
MiroPVPYT@reddit
to be fair to them the tunnel did have a gravel trap
Milospesh@reddit
Which should have been tested thoroughly before the hosts started.
Wandering_Starship@reddit
Blunted arrows, low draw weight probably. Or not full draw. Got a recurve bow of around 40-45 pounds, it goes much deeper into targets (depending on draw length, point of impact, material obviously).
And probably some layer of film on the glass parts.
TheNittanyLionKing@reddit
True, but it’s still pretty risky. I remember one episode of Mythbusters where they tested how safe they’re explosion and bullet resistance glass really was for the hell of it, and it turned out that it didn’t do very much to stop those things at all, and that they were kinda actually in danger the whole time.
DazMR2@reddit

Sorry but this episode was thoroughly terrible and boring. I know that they are getting older so they're not going to be as keen to do the whole "driving a car that's falling apart across the desert or through a jungle" as they used to be, but this was just rubbish.

Stealing Nigel Mansell and all the other bits involving Nigel
James messing with Richard’s car so that it says “ I’m impotent “ in Slovakian
CirnoIzumi@reddit
i dont know how i feel about this episode, we didnt get that much Jeremy out of Jeremy, not a lot happened outside of pretty city's and long moterways and James sounded defeated before things really began as if he had already anticipated how useless his car was, also the cars didnt feature much either.
on the other hand james tampering in this episode is some of the funnies shizzle they have ever done imo and the pretty places really were beautifull. I think the Race and the Nigel figure kinda sums the episode up, there were exciting things that they simply didnt do but they had a lot of fun with lesser things.
The episode also just makes me feel sorry for james, being stuck with that noise.

They somehow managed to anger the most stereotypical security guard in Poland :D I can tell you for sure - this was not scripted, even GT writers cannot write lines which sound so natural

Imo this episode was sadly too “scripted” and lacked a lot of substance. It’s a bummer to see, when we know the boys can do so much more. I know they are getting older, but I’m 100% sure they can still make some great episodes, worthy of of the name special.
I would much rather have watched them drive along in some more normal / usable cars and actually drive to reach some sort of a real goal.

Pferdestaerke@reddit
Hilarious to the point I had to pause several times to wipe tears from my eyes I was laughing so hard.
I have now queued up "The Great Escape" on Clarkson's recommendation... did the same when he recommended "The Killing Fields" in the Cambodia special (ok, I'll type it. "Seamen"). The educational, horizon-widening aspect of their productions is what takes them from entertaining to epic for me.
So sad that this will someday come to an end and- so far- nobody seems anywhere near even approaching the creativity, skill, quality and execution of how Mr. Wilman and the guys put together The Grand Tour, much less picking up the torch.
StephenHunterUK@reddit
The Great Escape is a British cultural icon. The theme is routinely heard at England games, especially if we're playing the Germans.

KnightsOfCidona@reddit
I know it was an exaggerated Brummie accent (and technically Nige is from the Black Country) but it really shows how little of a Brummie accent he has in reality (not too surprising since he left it when he was about 15 when his family moved to Yorkshire; all three of them actually spent some of their youth in Yorkshire though Jeremy is the only from there)

The scenery in this one. Its just so far beyond spectacular. Especially the mountains and Lake Bled are just knuckle bitingly beautiful. I would work in their crew for free or at least for food lol, just to be able to see the incredible views they get to witness.
BigAwkwardGuy@reddit
Just finished watching it, better than some of the recent specials IMO but still a far cry from some of my favourites like the Middle East, Mongolia, Vietnam (with the scooters/motorbikes), and even the Georgia-Azerbaijan mini-special.
When it was funny, it was really funny and felt natural: the wax museum, Hammond taking the piss out of Clarkson for his... extra energy stores, Nigel Mansell as a whole etc. Also the medical car scene at the race track.
But apart from that it was okay for the most part, and I absolutely disliked how May wasn't in most scenes with Hammond and Clarkson. The trio is what makes the special, their banter and them bouncing off of each other is absolute peak comedy ("I've broken Stalin's house" being a personal favourite). I might also be biased because May is my favourite of the three.
Overall a 2.5/5 for me.
legranddegen@reddit
I deeply enjoyed it and laughed my ass off the whole time.
I'm enjoying how they've decided that as their bodies aren't up to it, so they've decided to make the show deeply silly.

Loves the antics, loves the jokes, loves that the activities weren’t based around being so over the top but more about the trio soaking in the experience. One of the best since the specials only era for sure. I was cracking up!
pac4@reddit
My wife is recovering from major abdominal surgery so we stayed in bed today and watched. 10 mins in I thought she was going to open up her stitches from laughing so hard. This was such a great episode and a fun way to spend 1 hr 40 mins, and a break we really needed.
Thanks to the blokes for nearly 20 years of brilliant television. You just keep turning out gems and we are so appreciative of it.
Lol, the Nigel Mansell impressions were the best, but my favorite part was Jeremy getting stuck in the car.
helzinki@reddit
Wax Nigel Mansell looked more like Hitler than Wax Hitler.
Crowlands@reddit
I am starting to think that James has had enough of doing these with the other two, he keeps finding ways to avoid them, be it due to a lack of speed in this one and seamen or crashing in the last one.
Clairvoyanttruth@reddit
I assume he was still recovering from the prior trip and I felt bad. Ever if that is true the agony of those vehicles must have been a monstrosity.
He's said he had a "terrible time" filming The Grand Tour: Eurocrash.

jzn110@reddit
It may very well be incidental, BUT, I also sometimes get the vibe that while May and Hammond get along just fine, and Hammond and Clarkson get along just fine, May and Clarkson don't get along quite so well after all this time.
hurshy238@reddit
Ok I'm only at the beginning, but... whose hand was pointing to the starting and ending places of the trip on the map? Because they were nicely manicured with pink nail polish but allegedly belonged to Jeremy Clarkson and I'm very very confused by this.
Clairvoyanttruth@reddit
Thank god for the 26-mile runway.
I do wonder if James took a more passive role due to his crash in the last special. Still fun to see them destroy a backup car and James commit to returning to what her thought was a worse car.
TheTallRussian@reddit
English subtitles messed up for anyone else?
SirPhobos1@reddit
Yeah, they were off-time. Also, with them off, there were some that sporadically appeared throughout the episode.
Skysflies@reddit
I'm so glad I didn't watch the trailer for this, definitely the funniest one they've done
zztop610@reddit
The map scenes with the manicured hands was fucking hilarious
byjimini@reddit
Finally, Top Gear-style editing at last! The best produced GT since it started IMO.
Georgiaboy5@reddit
I don't want to seem unappreciative but when's the next episode? I'm already ready for one
DryJournalist8322@reddit
Can someone explain the joke for the painted nails in the opening scene please?
longtimefan86@reddit
It’s just them being bellends
ubermannen@reddit
I think the reason the mongolia special was good was because it felt lika an adventure. This episode did not
Ericshawn_be@reddit
Just the hands on the map at the very beginning.. that's just silly but I loved it.
Smartest_Dignity@reddit
Very funny bellends🤣🤣🤣
PerceptionSuper4734@reddit
The funniest special in a LONG time. I love this. It’s so weird this one was the least hyped one in terms of promotions by Amazon
LuXe5@reddit
Lmao the end was like a good bollywood drama! Also, I would just like all of us appreciate Europe. France, Spain, Italy blah blah blah. The eastern/central/Balkan Europe is as beautiful
vanqu1sh_@reddit
Best special since Mongolia, some incredibly funny moments. I think that wax museum in Krakow is about to explode in popularity with tourists!
dedasdude@reddit
Brilliant episode. I couldn't stop laughing since I saw the painted nails pointing to the map lmao
pixelunit@reddit
Probably my favourite TGT special. I loved it. So fucking funny.
ben70@reddit
Oh well. We got three good seasons.
DanThirty3@reddit
Bit disappointed we didn't get to see the scene they took a still from and used as the background for the episodes start page. https://postimg.cc/SYhr5SCs
Pascalwb@reddit
Yea or when they were cycling.
michaelloda9@reddit
Yeah! That's the Błędów Desert nearby Kraków, we've heard that they were filming there, or at least apparently just taking photos.
TheWhoreticulturist@reddit
I’m only like 45 in and it’s so good lol feels like an bunch of old episodes combined
Pascalwb@reddit
Expected more shown from the countries. Like they were cycling in Bratislava, I thought they would show that
Also that I'm impotent was not on Slovak. And not sure why 3,2,1 in the drag race subtitles were in polish.
LikesCakeFartVideos@reddit
My new favorite Grand Tour after Mongolia. Great scenery, interesting locations, ridiculous car and great comedy. Loved every second of it.
AlonsoFerrari8@reddit
Might have been their best episode of the Grand Tour. Was great without it being completely overdone. Nigel Mansell bits were hilarious.
iHoller913@reddit
Anyone have a link to James’ Crosley shirt??? Will pay for link
magicone2571@reddit
I'd sure hate to be the one who has to clean up that ski jump. Cool stunt though.
bomble1@reddit
Honestly wouldn't be that much different from stuff they normally do. They'll drive up in a tracked vehicle and pick up all the bits. Same thing they do when they have to trim trees or take out fallen ones.
jzn110@reddit
Pretty sure the production company cleans up the messes they create.
bomble1@reddit
Fair, but probably be easier to just pay the property owner in this case if they could. Either way it'll be cleaned the same way, drive up, throw all the bits in the back, drive down.
Rollo8173@reddit
Definitely the best special they’ve done in this all-special series and the second best piece they’ve done for Amazon? This felt classic!
iHoller913@reddit
So many of the specials have been great. Don’t even need to rank them at this point—just glad for the memories
Rollover_Hazard@reddit
Second best? I’d say it’s a comfortable third, second is arguable :p
Rollo8173@reddit
What would be your ranking. Per Hammond, second is the best

“Be here on time and don’t be too fat” is my new motto.
Absolutely loved this episode. I had to rewind several times because I was laughing so hard and missed the next bits.
SmashPlayersRretards@reddit
These are getting worse and worse
Wearytraveller_@reddit
This was one of the best episodes ever. Wtf do you mean? This was classic trio.
jesse9o3@reddit
This episode barely featured them as a trio though
It was mainly Richard and Jeremy driving off and having their own road trip while James lagged behind in his terrible old car and missed out on anything he might have remotely enjoyed
And while there's nothing wrong with a good captain slow/"...and so we left him behind" joke, when that's the primary contribution of James across the entire episode it stops being funny and you start feeling bad for him.
MalluRed@reddit
This definitely wasn't.
michaelloda9@reddit
No
ninjanun98@reddit
Had someone done the road trip before? Is that why they said a road trips no one’s where done as they are taking the piss like usual
Also laughed so much watching this
KAWAI_BOI@reddit
Is it out yet?
kuang89@reddit
James May night bag is a fjallraven kanken
TheWuziMu1@reddit
I thought this was the best special they've done in years.
Warm_Lifeguard9697@reddit
This special captured the essence of the grand tour and top gear made by the trio, I felt nostalgic watching this. Not over the top and very funny without comedy being forced into it, just the chemistry of the presenters. I loved it. From all the grand tour specials, this one I rate the highest.
Lympwing2@reddit
holy shit the windscreen wiper
Dougle_07@reddit
You guys just made my week! I had no idea it was out today
NoAccountforYou9385@reddit
Episode was great besides the ending. They kinda overdone it with the whole runway scene. Also that the plane was about to “land” was a bit much an ruined the end. I liked that they Hammond and Clarkson parked the cars in the exact same spot they previously stood when it rained 🤣 Wonder why they let the door open so long to be visible as a dry spot on the concrete.
MrQ_P@reddit
This episode is THE fucking GOAT
I can honestly say that this is now my absolute favorite episode
Whoopy2000@reddit
I loved it! It reminded me of one of the classic TG specials! And I felt that chemistry between the lads was at full speed.
StevefromLatvia@reddit
James: "I've had a crash!"
Richard: "Hey that's my job!"
Troiikas@reddit
I giggled on the archers vs cars scene where Jeremy goes ‘This is getting a bit game-of-throneish’ considering all the drama with the article 😂
Firecaptain@reddit
Had no clue it was being released. What a great surprise.
MerlinTrashMan@reddit
I am fairly sure that James May does more cocaine than Scarface.
Wearytraveller_@reddit
It was so great. I laughed from start to finish. The best grand Tour episode in so long. Just the boys fucking around in cars. Breaking down. Messing with each others cars. Leaving each other behind. Really excellent.
THEBigHugMugger@reddit
Clarkson being too fat for racing and the shit Hammond was talking had me rolling.
Thatsabigariel@reddit
I died when they stole Nigel Mansell

This is a fantastic special, I'd even go so far as to say I think it's the funniest of The Grand Tour.
More-Masterpiece-561@reddit
Felt kinda bad for James May. It was a good one after many specials
Slenderkiing@reddit
Damn good thing this subreddit is still up, with all the hype from the new spiderman I completely forgot about the new episode

Holy shit I’ve only seen 10 minutes before going to work and I was already crying of laughter. This episode promises.

I lost it completely and had to pause for a laughing break at the wax museum. Boy they're in form in this, great, great, great entertainment!
Milospesh@reddit
Loved it, trailer thankfully didn't spoil it.
great special, one of their best imho.
and if anyone hates it then they are clearly dead inside.
SpecialNose9325@reddit
I live in Gdansk and would love to see what part of this industrious port town they decide to show on screen.
John_Leninov@reddit
To quote Hammond at the end “That was extraordinary”. This was a great episode. Feel a bit sad for James missing Stalag Luft-3 but the laughs make up for it. 10/10
driftywiftypleb@reddit
Beat episode in ages. Thank god as well that nasty pop was wrecked.

I checked this morning and it wasn't there (I'm in NZ) saw this post and currently a very happy man
RandomNPC143@reddit
I know it’s a nitpick and I’m not complaining all that much (I did love the episode), but during the racing bits in Slovakia, they played Czech music (Smetana’s Ma Vlast) and drove and complemented Czech cars… I know there was a time when the Czech Republic and Slovakia used to just be the singular Czechoslovakia, but Czech culture and Slovak culture are about as different as German and Polish. Just listen to their respective national anthems. Says it all.
