It's a very high-fertility society that had barely started its demographic transition and recently lost a large part of its economic base (foreign aid and the international presence), so this isn't surprising. Afghanistan needs food aid and some sort of plan for self-sufficiency. 96,000 refugees recently left in one week. More will be coming if this keeps up.

The Taliban leadership lived in luxury in Qatar for the duration of the war (ironically not far from a major US airbase) so why have Qatar not stepped in to help? The Taliban have also cosied up to China, where is there assistance? It's a grim situation but the Talibans allies need to step in here not the west.

Not how it works. They won't, then blame the West for stepping or not stepping in or just in general. It's like Russia in the 90s; Putin came to power because the West, gave to much money/too little money/money to fast/to many supplies making them dependent/not enough supplies causing poverty/bleh bleh bleh bleh.

Operation Providing Hope was a mistake.

How is a country so resolutely backwards as Talibanistan supposed to become self-sufficient?
