Looking for a fun FWD-biased AWD car for B roads, with an automatic. Any price really, just as long as it's dynamic and fun to drive. I don't care about appearances. Preferably 0-100 in less than 7 seconds.
I'm considering a Toyota BZ4x or a Lexus RZ as I love the way Toyota/Lexus products feel to drive hard, but EVs tend to overheat and the RZ is kind of too big.
It seems like almost all "fun" cars are RWD, but after owning an RWD sport sedan, RWD sport coupe and an RWD hatchback... I'm really itching to get back to the in-control feeling you get from an FWD car. I want to control the car, I don't want the car to push me around.
scycron@reddit
GR Corolla or Newer Audi S3/RS3. You should really test an RS3 if you want FWD biased AWD as they have really improved their engineering.
Ran4@reddit
In what ways? The only serious things I can find against the BZ4X seems to be the range (which is fnie by me, I own an EV with way worse range today).
scycron@reddit
Gr Corolla default power split is 60 front, 40 rear. RAV4 prime is electric and gas front, with a electric motor rear, retains value better, more power. Bz4x is a rushed compliance vehicle with little engineering time and money. The rs3 is honestly a bargain for it's capability and speed compared to the current inflation era new car prices. 0-60 in under 4 seconds, luxury car with an advanced 4wd system, unique 5-cyl experience, retains value insanely well

Lease or Buy: Buy
Type of Vehicle: I prefer sedans or wagons/combis, but I’m open to any type of vehicle
Must-Haves: 4 wheels (optional)
Desired Transmission (auto/manual, etc.): Doesn't matter
Intended Use: Daily
Vehicles You've Already Considered: Mercedes 190E, Mercedes W124, Toyota Celica, Honda Legend, Honda Prelude, Mercedes W211
Is This Your First Vehicle?: Yes
Do You Need a Warranty?: No
Can You Do Minor Work on Your Own Vehicle?: Yes
Can You Do Major Work on Your Own Vehicle?: No
Additional Notes: I’m looking for a unique vehicle in my region (average cars in this price range are VW Golf, Škodas, etc.). I don’t have specific requirements regarding power or practicality. I’m interested in a cool, reliable car that I will like, with a preference for the styling of 1980s, 1990s, and some 2000s models (such as the Mercedes CL 500 and Mercedes W211). Thank you in advance.

Location: U.S. (Upper Midwest)
Price range: $0-$80,000
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Either - depends on value proposition
Type of vehicle: (Truck, Car, Sports Car, Sedan, Crossover, SUV, Racecar, Luxury etc.) Compact SUV (like an X3 or X5 at most) or compact sedan (like an IS)
Must haves: (4x4, AWD, Fuel efficient, Navigation, Turbo, V8, V6, Trunk space, Smooth ride, Leather etc.) - AWD, sufficient trunk/rear space for very light hauling (think bags of water softener salt, groceries, trips with 5-6 luggage bags, golf clubs, etc. - I don't need to be a contractor hauling lumber, but I also can't have a non-existent storage space), smooth and comfortable ride, decent acceleration and handling (it doesn't need to be a 4 second 0-60, but I test drove a Forrester for example, and couldn't handle how slowly it accelerates)
Desired transmission (auto/manual, etc): Auto - don't know how to drive manual, probably don't want to have to do it in the snow and ice
Intended use: (Daily Driver, Family Car, Weekend Car, Track Toy, Project Car, Work Truck, Off-roading etc.) - Daily driver, except I don't drive daily. But this would be my getting around car.
Vehicles you've already considered: Lexus RX, Lexus NX, BMW X3, BMW X5, Lexus IS, VW Golf R, Mazda CX-50, Subaru Outback Turbo
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Do you need a Warranty: No, but without one the price would need to be damn good
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: (fluids, alternator, battery, brake pads etc) Very limited. I've changed batteries, can check oil, changed air filters, but I'm not gonna be changing oil, brake pads, etc.
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: (engine and transmission, timing belt/chains, body work, suspension etc ) No.
Additional Notes:
I'm having a hard time finding what I want. I'm actually a little agnostic toward sedan/SUV, which I know sounds strange, but it makes sense when you think about it - I see the benefits of each. I prefer the driving dynamics of a sedan/hatchback/similar car, but I really appreciate being able to slide things into the back of an SUV - like being able to slide a bag of golf clubs in is easier than having to lift things over a trunk lip, etc.
I know the whole shtick, AWD doesn't make you stop in snow and ice, snow tires do that. Well, I also like being able to get moving in the bad snow, slush, etc. we have here. I'd consider non-AWD, but it would have to be a very compelling reason for me not to get a vehicle with AWD, given I live in heavy snow country.
I know I want some contradictory things - I would prefer something with better driving dynamics like a BMW, but I really don't want every oil change and small problem to be a $500 minimum thing. I also really value reliability and low maintenance, which is why I also consider Lexus. On the one hand, I find them a little boring. On the other hand, I think it's weird to pay a premium for something, and then have the quality/reliability/maintenance cost more than something you didn't pay a premium for. Love the idea of something like BMW/Mercedes, but don't know that I really want to sign on for thousands a year in just ordinary maintenance. It's not a "can I afford it" issue, it's do I want to pay it issue.
I'm not wed to an actual "luxury" level vehicle - I've looked at the CX-50, for example. But at the end of the day, I don't want to cheap out and then be irritated with road noise, shitty handling, etc.

jorts_are_awesome@reddit
Location: South eastern US
Price range: <$70k
Buy
New or used: either
Type of vehicle: sports sedan or 2+2
Must haves: occasionally have kids with me so need a back seat, manual transmission
Intended use: very low mileage daily driver (many days just to the gym and back), date night fun car, occasional weekend back road drives.
Already considered: used M3, used Giulia Quadrifoglio. I spent a lot of time looking at older 911s and some newer 718s but just can’t make it work without a backseat. I’ve even looked at picking up a project car (maybe an early 90s 300ZX or MR2) but I don’t think I can take on a project that size given my garage is currently converted to a woodshop.
Warranty: preferred but not required. Open to something older which obviously won’t be warrantied
Minor work: sure Major work: no

$6-$15K USD Price Range
Open to both buying and leasing (no greater than $200 USD/mo to lease)
Compact/Normal SUV or Sedan
Must Have: Some height from the ground, 4WD, heated seats, bluetooth, and a backup camera.
Auto Trans sorry yall not built for manual
Intended to be used for daily driving to commute to work or campus
Already considered: Volvo, Honda, Toyota (I am open to these makes they're not out of the question, I'm not well versed on car reliability)
Not my first vehicle
Indifferent to whether a warranty is present
Can do minor work
Cannot do major work im just a girl
Additional notes:
I am punctual on regular upkeep and was able to milk my first car out (07 Pontiac G6) closer to 200k so my standards on cars are not super high, as I am just a college student. As long as I don't think the fuel pump, engine, or transmission wont crap out mid drive, can last another 5 years, and doesn't shake above 50MPH I'd consider it a good car. If yall can suggest something that is relatively cute that is also a plus but i'm not really in a position to be such a chooser, aesthetically speaking. I need a car ASAP as I'm currently borrowing. THANK YOU!!!!!

Vehicles you've already considered:
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Do you need a Warranty: I don't think so
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Some
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: I think I could use a second opinion on this. My current car (2007 Chevy Equinox Lt) currently needs a new set of tires and some repairs on the brakes. The cost of that, from what I can tell, will cost about half as much as the car. I've heard cars turn into money pits around 100k miles and I'm quite a bit over that. Should I get the repairs done or sell and get something new(ish)?
bullzFromAT@reddit
It really depends on your financial situation. I was in a similar situation a few years back and bought a car. But keeping your car is not a bad choice either.
If you want to upgrade, check out a 2015 or later CX5. You can find one around 50k miles.

Warranty: I don’t think so?
Minor Work: No, but willing to learn
Major Work: No
Additional Notes: I’m really just looking for advice on what’s the best option out of the 3 I’ve considered. All seem like solid options, the Toyota seems to have the best gas mileage, so that’s the one I’m currently leaning towards. My local Mazda dealer tends to have better sales more frequently though, and have better deals for trade ins (I’m planning on trading in an old 199-something Toyota Corolla that my family uses pretty infrequently).
I’m not sure if long term I’d save more money going with the Camry, and up front costs are definitely something I’m aware of since I’m planning on moving about 5ish months after purchasing the car. Ultimately though, I’m just looking for a solid car that will last me a long time and wont need to be filled every other day. Thank you for the help!

This is just stuff i prefer, but I'd rather not have preferable vehicles be ruled out by stuff like this ig. Plus I'm just getting into vehicles and all that. Desired transmission: Auto
Intended use: Daily Driver
Vehicles you've already considered: Kia K5, K4, Niro Hyundai Elantra, Sonata, Kona, IONIQ5/6 VW Jetta, Passat Honda Accord, Civic Mazda3, 6 Chevrolet Blazer Toyota Camry, Crown, bZ4X, Prius, Prius Prime
Is this your 1st vehicle: No, second. Initial car was a 2010 Ford Fusion SEL, which I bought for ~7k w/240,000mi. Now has ~268,880mi and has treated me nicely up until now, with a reoccurring coolant leak issue that I don't think I should keep sinking money into. Otherwise I've considered trying to restore it instead of getting a new vehicle, but seems like a bad choice.
Do you need a Warranty: Unsure Can you Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes (beginner). I've done my own oil change twice now, changed my engine air filter almost did my own brakes but was talked out of it, and may try to change my spark plugs and coils?) Wanting to keep learning so I can make my car my own. Can you Major work on your own vehicle: No
Additional Notes: A hybrid sounds nice, since ive got a long daily commute (30mi to work). Right now I really am loving the 2024 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited, but don't think it'd be the best financial decision for me right now (I'm only 21). Previously I had my eyes set on the 2025 Kia K5 GT-Line, but again, moneymoneymoney. So I guess I'd just like something since my current car (the Fusion) is essentially undrivable, and to hold me out until I feel more financially confident (bad at budgeting and saving) to get something I love and want to call really my own. It'd be nice to be able to have something that I can use to try out different maintenance work as well.

Vehicles you've already considered: I've been told I should look at Toyotas, Hondas, or Subarus as far as brands. I've had people specifically call out the Toyota Prius Prime, Honda Civic Hybrid, and Toyota Corolla Hybrid. I've just started my research and am still soliciting info/opinions from people who know about cars (I don't know jack). I've not looked at these cars in depth yet, and I've not test driven them or anything... I'm just starting out.
Is this your 1st vehicle: Yes (Technically, I used to drive cars my parents let me drive that they owned over a decade ago; this is my first time learning/researching/buying a car. Those cars were old (199X, and 2003) and were kinda crap).

Other than that size is somewhat of an issue. She currently has a 2016 Opel Corsa and the garage at our new place is not that big. The Corsa is 1.944m / 6.37ft wide, mirrors included.

Just looking for a 2nd vehicle I can use when necessary for larger loads or taking my dog around where I don't want her slobber all over the nice leather. I care about no features other than that it drives and won't kill me, and is preferably easy to do the simple maintenance on without lots of tools. It’s still somewhat early since i don’t plan on switching cars till probably January, but still deciding, I’m somewhat new to cars and I’m coming from a 22 Sentra I had gotten back in 2022 due to it being my only option at the time and it has been a great and reliable car just too boring, I’m looking to buy a new car that has some power to it and fun to drive, interior is not really relevant to me as long as there’s leather seats (my Sentra has cloth), I been mainly looking at GR86, WRX and Elantra N (mostly leaning for the EN due to looks and performance even tho GR86 sounds fun and looks the best imo, alongside that RWD it’s just a bit slower than the other 2 and way less space as a daily, WRX is just there due to similar price and the performance/AWD, I hate the way the newer rear bumper looks on that thing), been looking at muscle as well such as Mustang or Charger GT/RT but unsure if that’s something I’m willing to go for since to my understanding, it’s an entire different kind of experience as far as the car maintenance is concerned, any suggestions and tips would be very much appreciated

Big swath of options here... you should narrow down to "I want something amazing that can be 2000's era" and fit your requirements or something "with a warranty" - the difference is insane.
So:
1.) Bently Continental GT, 2007. Blue.
2.) CPO or new Ecoboost.
Totally different ballpark, both in your budget.
Btw, modding makes it not-reliable. Go get a 450hp car for under 30k that's a bit old but we'll maintained and your way better off. Modern cars are fast as hell, stock.

Price range: (Minimum-Maximum in your local currency) $25k-$60k-ish. Somewhat interested in one owner EVs at or under $25k for the tax credit. Found a few Model 3 Performance options around $25k that piqued my interest .
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Prefer used from a performance per dollar perspective.
Type of vehicle: Car, Sports Car, CUV. Weight is what I consider mostly because handling and driving dynamics are important to me. The Mach E GT is the absolute upper limit of weight I’m comfortable with. It probably wouldn’t even be on the list had I not already driven one and liked it.
Must haves: CarPlay or ability to retrofit relatively easily, decent exhaust note either stock or with aftermarket exhaust. Some degree of rarity on the road…I live in Small Town America so that’s not hard to achieve.
Desired transmission Either, but if manual I’d want it to be engaging as possible. For example, G82 M4 I would not get a manual because it’s not a good enough manual compared to the speed and convenience of the auto IMO.
Intended use: Daily/weekend car. I work from home and this would not be the primary family hauler. If all 4 of us (me + wife + 2 car seats) can fit for an hour-ish drive, I’ll be happy.
Vehicles you’ve already considered: Mustang Mach E GT w/Performance Pack, G82 M4, w204 & w205 C63 AMG, 340i Xdrive/m340i, F80 M3, 2018+ Porsche Macan GTS, B8.5 S5, Model 3 Performance, Giulia QV (accessory belt replacement killed this option for me).
Is this your 1st vehicle: No
Do you need a Warranty: No
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Absolutely
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Anything related to dropping the engine or subframe I’m not able to do myself.
Notes: I’ve been driving performance cars for almost 10 years now, in the rain, snow (with proper tires) and good weather. Recently sold my R35 GT-R and come Spring of 2025 I’m going to be ready for another car. My wife and I have twins that will most likely still be rear facing by that time. We all fit in the R35 so coupe options are possible. We have a primary family hauler so this would be used for pleasure or the occasional family trip (cars and coffee, family outing that’s within an hour drive). Driving dynamics are important as I enjoy canyon driving and have great roads nearby. I feel like I’m all over the map with my options and need some assistance narrowing it down. I also need to get out and drive some cars!
Thanks for the help!

If you’re looking at a Macan, an SQ5 could be a good option. A bonus is Audis generally come with the driver assist features versus other premium brands—when I was looking around, finding a C class or 3 series with auto cruise was like pulling teeth.
TheElitist16@reddit
Good call, I’ll say I’ve never driven a performance Audi, much less compared it to anything else. I’ve read Audis generally have a less communicative driving experience than other German brands. But again, never driven so will have to add it to the list.

Toyotas and Lexuses don’t depreciate much and financing on used/CPO isn’t as good, so don’t be afraid to look at a new Camry too. The XLE/XSE have things like laminated glass so they’re a more premium experience, and prices can be competitive compared to gently used versions.

Hi. I am looking to buy an used EV and i am a bit conflicted of which i should buy. I live in Norway so the car must be decent in the winter as well as the summer. My budget is 17 000 eur.
I have no preference on which type of car it is as long as it has a nice interior and decent range. I also want it to be comfortable to drive. I want to use this car for many years so i would prefer a 2020 model or newer.
I have been looking at the Honda E, Peugeot e-208, Fiat 500e and some bigger ones like the Peugeot e-2008 and Mazda MX-30. I am really loving the Honda E's interior with all the cool tech, but the range and boot space is very lacking. The e-208 and e-2008 fixes some of that at the cost of a bit boring interior and a bit small steering wheel in my opinion. The Fiat seems to be a good mix of both with a little better boot space than the E and almost equally as good interior, but the rear seats seems to be the worst of all of them. The Mazda has very limited range to be a SUV and i don't think the interior can compete with the Hondas. I have taken a look at the Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf too, but i find them a bit boring looking both inside and outside.
I plan to buy the car as soon as possible. I mostly use my car around where i live so say 30 mins top a day. But since i am planning to keep this car for many years i want the opportunisy to travel further. I live in an apartment and my housing cooperative already has chargers installed so i can charge at home. I travel with friends and family sometimes so the possibility for that is much preferred. The rear seats must be at least decent for longer trips.
Thanks for answers.
