Tips for Blood Pressure?

Left high stress job in July.
Took a month off.
Got offered new job.
While filling out paperwork, realized med card expires 9/16.
Go on Friday to do that, BP was 161/109
After sitting it comes down to 143/103
Doctor gives me 3 month card. Admittedly I was very hung over, and sucked down a coffee before I went. Probably not my best choice.
So, doctor says I need to see my PCP. I don't have health insurance from quitting previous job.
I've stopped drinking since Sunday (yesterday) and starting to eat better this week.
Anything I can do to get my BP down in a week without meds?

You have a 3 month card for now. You can try to go all natural, and do as people are suggesting for a month and see if it works for you. If your BP is still high, then you'll have to get on meds, and will need 1 month for them to really kick in enough, which is what the clinics will want to see. If you have a free health center place in your city, then walk in and say you don't have insurance, and are paying cash...they usually just charge you $25 for the visit to see a doctor. they'll check your BP, and if it's still high, will precribe meds for you...get them filled at a WalMart pharmacy. You can get a 90 day supply of them for about $15, depending on what they prescribe you. It'll be the generic version, which is fine. Then a couple weeks later, you go get your new medical card, which will be a 1 yr card from now on, but it's an easy thing to deal with.

Or go to a different doctor or better yet a chiropractor or naturopath

No caffeine, no nicotine, no carbs (sugar raises your pressure more than salt fyi), get some "No Salt" and take about 2000mg a day of potassium (add to water and drink it slow throughout the day), and most importantly no alcohol.

Take cayenne pepper daily 1/4-1/2 teaspoon. Mix it with water or lemon juice. It’s a natural blood thinner and opens up your arteries making your blood easier to move. Many people have switched from blood pressure medicine and just took cayenne & weeks later their blood work looks fine. You don’t really gotta worry about salt intake also as long as your potassium levels are good

Funny how the only natural health remedy mentioned gets downvoted

Go to a chiropractor, drink water the day before and cold shower the morning of.

You could try planned parenthood, which does offer treatment for high blood pressure. They gave me a prescription for Lysinopril which is heckin AMAZING at lowering BP.
Just go to their website, click set up appointment and hit wellness/preventative care, and theres an option to book an appointment for high blood pressure. Guaranteed, they'll look at you. Assuming they prescribe you with treatment plan, you'll be absolutely fine when it's time to renew your med card.

Drink nothing but water, no caffine/alcohol, get exercise, celery seeds can help. Cut down on salt, etc.

Watch your salt intake, and go for a walk everyday. Exercise in general helps getting your BP down overall. Its like taking medication kinda (not saying it replaces it).
But be aware, just because youbstart exercising doesnt mean your BP is good now. After a while of stopping exercise your bp will return to high.

Cut the salt and lay off the coffee. The day of the physical drink water. The night before, drink water. No alcohol or soda. Avoid caffeine 24 hours before appointment. Eat fruit. Avoid fruit juice. Sounds like you don’t need any added sugars either. If you smoke, you really should not smoke before the appointment. Get a good nights rest beforehand too.

Get on a treadmill for 30 min an hour before the physical and your bp numbers will be lower than you've ever expected! 😁

Ive had higher BP since my early 20s, go ride an exercise bike 30-45 minutes a day or multiple days. Even one day before next physical will help tremendously, drink lots of water, reduce salt like others mentioned.

Take a few benadryl before.

When you say eat better what does that mean

That’s gonna be tough with 1 week. Need to work out. Cut down on salt and no sugar. I’d fast the day before. Play it safe and no caffeine the day before and day of

Reduce sodium in your diet, eat healthier, lose some weight if you’re overweight and do a small workout sometime in the day it doesn’t have to be much but something is better than nothing. Avoid alcohol and super sugary drinks like soda.
Many of these things may not directly impact your BP but the benefits they gain will improve your health overall which can help impact your BP.

You were hung over and had coffee
My dude what did you expect?

Watch your salt intake always. No caffeine from the night before the physical. No nicotine from the night before the physical. Donating blood a day before the physical can lower blood pressure. Show up well hydrated.
Long term, start eating healthy if you aren't and try getting regular exercise.

No salt

Walk everyday if you can (30 minutes min), more greens, stop eating salty, spicy, and sweet stuff, don’t smoke. Side note. You can still see a doctor and if you get this new job, I think you can have them bill it to your new insurance. If your doctor prescribes meds you can’t afford, check Mark Cubans “Cost Plus Drugs”. Some drugs are cheaper on there, than if you had insurance. There are ways to see a doctor without out going in the hole. Just be honest with them and see if they’ll work with you.
