Damn republican mayor. Thought they were tough on crime
BryanW94@reddit
I'm not a fan of Mayor but he ain't the problem. It's liberal judges like Amber Givens weeks more worried about having a self portrait above her Bench as her Court Clerk holds court while she take the day off or the DA who's more worried about optics and getting re-elected than keeping people who need to stay in jail in jail.
PM_ME_YOUR_LAWNCHAIR@reddit
Reddit is part of the Democratic National Communists. There is no point debating on here. They will just download any dissenting opinion and ignore it.
czechyerself@reddit
What does the mayor have to do with the court system?
TheRealSnick@reddit
You know they're being facetious, c'mon.
What they are saying is what every single Cult of the Orange God™ member says about any democratic president, governor, mayor, council person, mail man, etc, when they need a scapegoat for, well, anything really! How convenient.
Pssstt, it's cause it's bullshit. Stay woke.
frenchezz@reddit
Eee another republican state with rising murder rate
fucyuman@reddit
It’s a city not sate, and dem city
signorepoopybutthole@reddit
Mayor is a Republican
earthworm_fan@reddit
It's a dem city
frenchezz@reddit
What political party is our mayor a part of?
earthworm_fan@reddit
It wasn't defined on the ballot because the mayor race is non-partisan. Next question.
PS: Also he was a Democrat at the time.
frenchezz@reddit
But what is he NOW.
earthworm_fan@reddit
It's like talking to my 3 year old nephew
TheReverend5@reddit
Do you often refuse to answer simple questions your 3 y/o nephew asks?
Realistic_Head3595@reddit
What cities are Republican cities?
earthworm_fan@reddit
Ones with precincts that vote red. Look at an election map
Realistic_Head3595@reddit
You can’t name Republican cities?
earthworm_fan@reddit
Look, I don't know what you're getting at. I'm not here to explain how precincts work. Dallas is an overwhelmingly blue city and this is not up for debate. Look at this map and you can figure out what "Republican cities" are (and Democrat cities)
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/upshot/2020-election-map.html
TheReverend5@reddit
Which cities would you consider republican cities?
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
It doesn't really matter in our council-manager system. The mayor is a figurehead, first among equals at city council, and council largely just sets broad policy for the city manager and, in this case, the chief of police to follow.
Trying to make this a partisan thing at the local level is a bit silly. There are "Republican-run" cities with murder crime rates and "Democratic-run" cities with high murder rates, and both with low murder rates.
signorepoopybutthole@reddit
Oh I know. It's obviously a really stupid talking point with basically no influence either way, it's just fun to throw that stupid talking point back at people who try to make it
frenchezz@reddit
What party is our Mayor in again?
Furrealyo@reddit
This for the city of Dallas, which voted overwhelmingly (64%) Democratic in the 2022 election.
State homicide rates went down in the current year-on-year dataset.
Sources: DallasCountyVotes.org, CDC National Center for Health Statistics.
frenchezz@reddit
What party is our mayor in again?
Furrealyo@reddit
The Dallas Mayor’s Office is a non-partisan role; it’s not voted on by party affiliation.
That said, he represented himself as a Democrat when elected and made use of Democratic Party funds during his campaign.
You really just need to take your L on this one, Dallas is extremely blue by any metric.
frenchezz@reddit
And yet despite all the BS you typed out we have a republican mayor.
deja-roo@reddit
Which has what to do with anything?
frenchezz@reddit
This goes back to my point a republican state/ city has a rising murder rate. Guess we’re done here.
deja-roo@reddit
It's not a Republican city though, obviously.
frenchezz@reddit
And yet the leader of the city who has a strong influence on what goes on is….. REPUBLICAN.
deja-roo@reddit
The mayor doesn't have that much influence over any of that. The city council does. And the major only recently changed parties anyway.
You're acting like this is some sort of gotcha that has any kind of meaning whatsoever. It sounds childish.
krel08@reddit
You clearly didnt read. Dallas elected a Democrat that switched parties after the fact. What point are you even trying to make here?
GreenHorror4252@reddit
Texas has pre-emption of firearm laws. Dallas can't pass any kind of gun law whatsoever. So the fact that Dallas votes overwhelmingly Democratic is irrelevant.
biggersjw@reddit
With a Republican mayor to boot!!
codysdad89@reddit
For comparison, New York City has had 243 murders in a city of 8.336 million & Dallas has had 177 in a city of 1.3 million.
If NYC had the same rate that we did, they'd be up at 1,134. If Dallas had the same murder rate as NYC we'd be sitting at 38.
Iglooman45@reddit
Huh, that's pretty jarring
HoneyIShrunkMyNads@reddit
tbf NYC has done an exceptional job of curbing violence (albeit with questionable police tactics like stop and frisk and broken window policing)
MonSoleil937@reddit
But you guys! Guns are people too! They deserve more rights than our women🥺
/s just in case
Iglooman45@reddit
Huh, that's pretty jarring
throwsumdeezonit@reddit
Dallas is a city
frenchezz@reddit
What party is the mayor part of?
throwsumdeezonit@reddit
Voted in as a democrat.
frenchezz@reddit
Answer the question. What is the current mayor of Dallas’ political party?
Thinklater123@reddit
Now look at how many of the murderers were on probation for violent offenses that the Dallas County DA's office let run amok.
ImmediateTie9261@reddit
Why would you post this without just sharing the number? If it’s that high/ you actually had any idea I think you would have posted the number. You’re just guessing kinda nasty
Electrical_Room5091@reddit
Murder rate is down in most of the country. So this is opposite of the current trends.
YLSNG@reddit
That is a point.
RoosterClaw22@reddit
Overall crime is down because they don't prosecute crimes at the same level.
noncongruent@reddit
Overall crime is down because less crimes are being committed. The FBI crime statistics are derived from crime reports, not conviction rates. The economy is doing extremely well now, and reductions in crime rates are an expected side effect of that economic improvement.
Agreeable_Meaning_96@reddit
is this a bot comment? FBI crime statistics are not representative of national crime stats, they represent statistics provided to the FBI by PARTITICIPATING departments. A huge number of police departments in this country are extremely small, in fact the majority of police departments are very small, and do not participate. The UCR is the FBI's final product, and you cannot just quick glance it and assume "crime down." What economy is doing well? The US? LOL
Expensive_Heron9851@reddit
the US has the strongest post-pandemic economy in the G7. inflation has steadily been going down each quarter. idk why you people pretend the sky is falling all the damn time.
DaSilence@reddit
Your data is pretty badly out of date. It was somewhat accurate under the previous reporting system (SRS), but is not accurate any longer (as of January 2021) with the implementation of 100% compliance with NIBRS.
Specifically to Texas (and Dallas is a city in Texas), all departments and offices are mandated by state law to report data using NIBRS as of 1 September 2023. No matter how small the department or office.
Participation in NIBRS has improved even more in 2023 with the FBI reporting 77 percent population coverage as of May 2023. It’s my understanding that more than 85 percent of the US population was covered by a NIBRS-reporting agency by the end of 2023 (including 9 of the 10 largest cities in the country).

You're accusing me of being a bot? Beep boop.
Enformational@reddit
Crime stats are an interesting topic… police departments have funny ways of reporting crime. Some crime may only be counted in the stats if there is a victim willing to prosecute and cooperate with the police. Trust me when I say there is a lot of crime in DFW (not just Dallas) that isn’t getting counted/reported
throwsumdeezonit@reddit
Not because you have to report a murder? But other crimes don’t have to be/may not get reported?
noncongruent@reddit
People still report crimes, the main issue is that nowadays the police don't seem to give a shit about investigating them. The crime reports still get sent to the FBI, though.
throwsumdeezonit@reddit
I’ve not reported a crime because I had to wait 45minutes for a police officer to arrive and cancelled.
noncongruent@reddit
I've reported crimes via the phone and got a report number. That report number makes it an official crime report. There's no need to report a crime in person to a police officer. Even though I know the police won't investigate, I still want the report in the system.
Rocky-Arrow@reddit
So is there anymore info like in areas/zip codes are muders and violent crime occurring in?
November9999@reddit
Can we not talk about the crime rate until after the election. We need to make it look like crime is down! That is all.
MonSoleil937@reddit
Please take your meds. There are (probably) people who care about you and are worried about you.
I’m not one of them. But I’m sure somebody out there is.
November9999@reddit
Continuously getting roasted by Alex Stein. Look those videos up if you haven’t!
EggplantGlittering90@reddit
Uhh isnt murder considered violent crime?
deja-roo@reddit
... yes? But there are other violent crimes, too.
SiriusSlytherinSnake@reddit
Does it have anything to do with the DAs office constantly lowering charges and sentences for violent crimes if it gets them a plea instead of doing work?
Fit_Tale_4962@reddit
Whats the republican mayor doing about it?
