lol I basically made the same comment. I knew it probably wasn’t really “funk so rubber,” as that makes no sense. But that’s what it always sounded like!
Of course, “funk soul brother,” makes about the same amount of sense.
I've got to praise you like I shouldddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
Something about The Toys Go Winding Down by Primus clicked in my head yesterday, as does happen with songs, and now my brain won't turn it off. I just hear the three bass plucks in repetition. Over and over.
In my head, this entire time, I thought it was "Check it out now, the song's so bravo, right about now."
In my defense I have a genetic hearing loss so song lyrics are often difficult, but I honestly thought that was what they were saying, so I never bothered to look it up. And no, it makes no sense, and yes, I'm a dumbass lol
This is a demonstration why the human brain is increíble.
Just by seeing some lyrics written on a page, it interpreted the language, retrieved the memory of the tune of the song, memories of the artist/song name, memories you may have about it, nostalgia over it, and probably many more things, all likely under 1 second.

I do really like it, but I also can't listen without picturing Dylan Moran's takedown of the song. For a partial quote,
"And it went, erm, "Funk soul brother... right about now... yeah... it's the, it's the funk soul brother... check it out. It's, er, well... it's the funk soul brother, essentially. He's, er, he's coming. He's coming at you. It's the... well... it's the funk soul brother." And after a while, I began to penetrate the meaning of this song, you know? I gathered that somebody was about to arrive, and everybody else was terribly excited—maybe he was bringing cake, or something, they didn't say—but the thing was, you see, he wasn't there yet. Ha ha, that was the hook!"

They Might Be Giants do have a cross-eyed bear in "Hide Away Folk Family" though. And his shoes are laced with irony.
