I remember having to go to a travel agent to get to NM for college. Was Really the only way to buy airline tickets at the time...

Back in my youth had to go to a Kilroy travel agent and buy tickets there, atleast got some youth discount. But back then there were travel agents every second city block.

This is fascinating but also sounds like some of the most exhausting itineraries ever…

I love checking out (old) flight numbers to see if they are still being used and if they are still on the same route as many years before. I checked all flight numbers shown here and here’s what I discovered:
BA052/53 still exists, but they are now SEA - LHR/ LHR - SEA
BA319 CDG - LHR still exists!
TP242 still exists, but is now a rarely used flight number for a flight from ORD - LIS
AY882 still exists but is now a flight from VBY - HEL
AA221 still exists but is now a flight from AMS - DFW

BA52/53 is a funny one. For a long time BA only used flight numbers in the 200’s for LHR-US routes apart from JFK. They’ve since introduced a few different flight numbers for PIT , AUS and CVG but they’re all still fairly close to the standard US numbers.
Their flight numbers are roughly grouped together geographically and Africa still has numbers in the 40/50/60 range so it’s unusual to see it assigned to Seattle.

Yeah sometimes they don’t make sense. I discovered that BA also has flight BA49/48 to/from SEA. Seems like they reused an old Africa flight number

I wonder what plane type the JFK-IND AA221 sector was on back then. I have no memories. Remember the Pan Am 554 was on a Boeing 727.

Pan Am ❤️

BA CDG-LHR was on a 767-300 back then ! We had a club seat and they even served a hot meal on that flight.
moaningpilot@reddit
They still do serve a hot meal if you get it at the right time of day.
KevinAtSeven@reddit
That's exceptional given you're in the air less than an hour.
moaningpilot@reddit
I think BA offer hot meals for breakfast on basically everything except Manchester and Jersey.
