If money was really no object I’d probably go for Sandbanks - love the coast (and weather) down there, and my wife has family nearby. I’d need enough money in my “no object” to get back to Newcastle for the football every couple of weeks, but if I could afford to live there… (shrug) But if money was REALLY no object I’d have a place on Sydney Harbour!

I have, and I still prefer to live in London. Not because it's this 'magical' city, but because I'm a Londoner, all my family and friends are here and I'm used to it. Other parts of the UK are great, but they aren't home to me.

I'm used to it - meaning that I know where all the places I want to go are and how to get there, can go down a street and have memories of growing up or visiting there and what type of people I'm likely to bump into - covers non-relationships. Don't you feel an affinity with your home town?

The main downside of people who aren’t from London from staying where they are is job opportunity. Remove that and I don’t think the demand to live in London is anywhere near as high. London has actually started to see people move away from it with the introduction of WFH.

London. I lived in Zone 1 (Angel) for years in a one bed flat, but moved out as the rent was absurd. I now rent a four bed, three level, three bathroom house with front and back garden for the same price as that flat. And I'm only 35 mins away from London by train.

Haha, I would love to live in semi-rural NI. I currently live in London and can't stand the place. It's not like I'm impoverished, like I can afford to do what I want to do (more or less). Just not enough nature. The pace of life is too hectic, and there are too many people. Hate crowds, love people. I always enjoy my visits to Co. Tyrone to visit family. I would say the grass is always greener, but then it actually is greener on the Emerald Isle, isn't it? What with all the rain.

I don't really go out to pubs so I'm quite happy going to the only Wetherspoons in Northern Ireland every once in a while. Yes Belfast is small but that imo just makes it safer; London is too random in terms of crime rate and disproportionate attacks on people, it's something money can't afford. I've seen tons of videos where people get their phones stolen, cars smashed in, hit and runs etc in London & Greater London. For this reason alone I've swore that I'll never live in London again... Even if money was no object

It's accessible to the UK through ferries, Ireland by car or train, and arguably the most lively out of all the cities in Northern Ireland. There's theatres, the O2 arena by Titanic, and has (the only) 2 universities on its doorstep. It's a great multi-ethnic, mixed-age city with something for everyone

I go there..just not enough to attract me to be there 7×52, if I had no social connections to the place, there are plenty of other cities in UK that would give me a better range if what you mention. Living a few miles out of town, I have got some of the benefits of Belfast alongside some of the benefits of a more rural life. Thinking of moving though, as my life now has different requirements.

I love Whitby. Been there very regularly over the past 24 years due to a family member I support sometimes. its beautiful in every season of the year - I've been there in amazing summer weather, deep snow, heavy fog, howling storms, the lot. its a *very* small fishbowl in the non-tourist season. There's no anonymity, and there's a problematic drinking scene. Some people get into it as teenagers and as theres few real career options around there, are often still in it in the mid-30s, but looking far worse.. Small towns on the edge of nowhere have issues.

Nice area, Zone 1, London. I live 50 mins train from Waterloo and every time I'm walking back over the Hungerford bridge hoping the train will actually run and I won't miss the last one I think, "I wish I was just a tube from home now". The reverse isn't a problem - living in London, go out to the sticks for a day and you can just get any evening train home. Or probably even get a hotel for a fraction of the central London cost.

If we were to assume a case where the house you move into was given for free, but it's the exact house of your choice? I would possibly say Point on the Isle of Lewis. Lewis is beautiful and peaceful. But the cost to move there, and the additional cost of living there, is just too much for us at the minute. If the cost of the house wasn't an option? Well, we'd be loving our quiet life up there.

Growing up, I dreamed of living in the West End of London, Mayfair, Chelsea or the like, and walking between restaurant, theatre and home each evening. Now, I look at these places and the houses look impractical to live in with their small rooms, high ceilings and endless stairs, and not especially convenient for travel. Lucky really since I don't have millions of pounds to buy a pokey little flat with a nice postcode.

I'd probably live in Winchester, Hampshire to be honest - which isn't far from where I live now, just a lot nicer. A bit like Frank Turner I wandered up town to the Railway on Tuesday to meet some friends and watch a band. Perhaps unlike Frank Turner I looked at some of the houses and wondered what you'd need to do to afford a place like that. Lovely City. close to family, lovely character homes, close to countryside, good links to London. Completely unafordable for me right now.

Exactly where I live now. I left London in 2022 for a small town in North Yorkshire in exactly this situation. I’m single, retired early and have no responsibilities. The quality of life is unbelievably better. I go back to London every couple of weeks as I’ve still a property there and my original friends and family still live there. Anyone saying London won’t feel like that after 30 years there 😂

Tynemouth or Whitley Bay. I live nearby in anyway, but being in one of them would be a real plus. If I could get a semi or a detached house with a decent sized driveway and garden, it would be ideal. Close enough to get to Newcastle either by car or public transport, close enough to the countryside, and within walking distance of the beach. Nice bars, and restaurants in both towns, a good walk around Tynemouth market on the weekend, good schools etc.

I always fancied being old timey aristocratic, Wooster and Jeeves type thing, so having a luxurious townhouse in like N2 or N3 postcode, I always quite liked those curved white terraced ones where the whole terrace curves around a little park. I think in Mary Poppins they were in one and also something similar if not the same in the newer Paddington movie. But then also to have a wealthy family who owns a large estate somewhere in the country that I can visit for weeks at a time and enjoy the rural (aristocratic) lifestyle in a large manor house but then causing shenanigans down the local pubs with my crazy cousins.
