Looks really good. Always good to see another niva.
I’ve got an earlier shape one. I’ve had four. They are a seriously underrated little 4x4. Get out of a lot of shit bigger trucks won’t even get close to. The early ones were always a bit underpowered. I supercharged one a few years back. Went pretty well before putting a modded fiat twincam in. I still have one now but I’m not sure if I’ll end up modding as I don’t really have the time and to many projects.
The older shape ones are stiffer, they are made out of thicker metal and the rear taillight panel serves as additional bracing.
The main problem with them is the rest of the drivetrain. It cannot hold more than 130hp
I’ve seen numbers as high as 250hp for the central diff transfer case. You got fix the flexing though being it’s not physically attached to the gearbox. There’s suspension plates you can reinforce to. The gearbox is the old 124 box so the later 131 gearboxes go in them without to much drama. Steering boxes can be another problem that’s easily fixed to. Skid plates on diffs help I’ve seen the rear steel casing used in the front to. I found as long as the front end isn’t in the air when on throttle and comes down hard they are usually strong enough. The twincam one I had was a bit north of 150hp and the supercharged 1.7 I never dynoed but was torquee. Last time I knew it was still going strong.
There are projects that use old Toyota van drivetrains.
But overall it should be fine without hard launches.
But I decided to swap everything, so nothing will break under the load
Well fuck my America. You go pal and burn! Seriously, be safe and that thing is a one passenger destroyer (glove box can kill a man). Probably the passenger. Much love from the we die like men's club with cars. Holy shit I found my calling.
Thank you))
I removed that glove box by the way 😂
It also had a spare tire under the hood, and in case of a frontal accident the tire would go straight to the driver's face. Very 70's car that is still being produced almost unchanged.

how did you supercharge the 1.7. and was it carbureted/TBI or multipoint fuel injection?
Manical-alfasist@reddit
It was carbed still. Similar to how lancia did it on the volumex. Can’t remember if it was an sc 12 or 14 supercharger. It worked pretty well.

Ok, American here. I am super intrigued, but holy shit you die like real men in that. Impressive.
Wikipedia - "In 2002, the Lada Niva was awarded zero stars out of a possible four by the Russian ARCAP safety-assessment program."
NICE.

0 total stars?! I'm not even mad, that's amazing.
I'd love to see the footage from crash testing.
