Scoped out the cylinders. How F'd does it look.

Been trying to get this 429 to turn over by hand and via starter and no dice. Used my borescope in each cylinder is got varying conditions in each cylinder. First Picure/piston looks horrible. Rust and piston damage. Second Picture seems to show cracks? Other 2 show what the rest of the cylinders look like. Pretty damn clean minus on the last picture there might be some damage on the right of the groove? Not sure if it's supposed to be there or not.
How F'd is it? Considering just tearing it down and starting over on a rebuild at this point that or finding a reputable place that can sell me a good short block.

Dingleball hone and she's good for another 100k
Although, it might need a replacement part, just a small piece, just a performance crate motor.

Well the good news is it was already a project car.

Pretty much, lol. Figured it was 50/50. It's not all bad, and nothing a rebuild won't fix. It was going to come out anyways just Figured I might get lucky and have a decent engine to work with.

ATF/acetone 2:1 mix, pour it into the cylinder, let it sit fir a few days.
Begin working the engine back and forth. Keep topping it up and repeating the process. If it breaks free and turns over freely, pour more acetone down each cylinder and try bumping it with the starter (if that works). That'll clear the cylinders of fluid. Use an air chuck to blow out the rest.
Then fill the cylinders with 4:1 diesel and AFT. Rotate the engine every hour for a day (~12 hours).
Bump the starter and blow out the cylinders afterwards, do an oil change, 10-15W oil, new filter, put everything back together, let her rip.
This is what I do to get old cars put of fields that have sat fir decades. It works pretty damn well. Most of them smoked like a chimney the first 50-100km, but they cleared up with some highway driving.
The trick is to not force the rust free with the piston rings while going back and forth. Just rotate forward and back a little bit each time.

Doing this will work, make sure you have the spark plugs out before you do anything with the bumping the starter, as you don't want any fluid in the chamber(although it will most likely leak down unless your got some real rust weld around the pistons) otherwise you could hydro lock a cylinder or more.
If that doesn't work and you really want the motor, you'll need to pull the head and bang on the piston with a maliable implement and hammer.

Yeah, good to highlight that. I thought it was implied but better safe than sorry.

Hahahaha it does not!

Engine won’t turn by hand and looks like hell inside. You need to take it apart to see what you’re dealing with then decide if you want to repair or replace.

Yep. Got the heads off, and it's shit in 3 cylinders, but I think it can be saved. All the more reason for a stroker rebuild or just a mild performance rebuild.
3wbasie@reddit
Yeah most likely after a bore and home you’ll be in good shape

I got most of the top end apart. Few head bolts on one side are being stubborn so I stopped for the day. Hopefully to have it broken down and off to a shop by next weekend. There's a place near that sales rebuilt 429 short blocks for a pretty fair price ( starting at 1800.00 basic short block no core )so I'm keeping that in mind if my current block has to many issues. Not sure what the going rate for a bore/hone is now days and installing a new bottom end.
Sleedog1@reddit
Yeah looks like it's probably time to punch it out a little bigger and do a nice stroker build to me!
Street_Mall9536@reddit
It will never run with that much rust in the bore, even it it does the rings will be stuck and that cylinder won't be doing anything but burning oil.
External_Balance_122@reddit (OP)
Yeah, it's not the greatest in 3 cylinders. Heads are so it's just going to get disassembled and have a shop take a loo. I mean that's or I get a rebuild short block and go from there.
