first car as a petrol head?

Hi all! Looking to buy a car and I’m a bit torn on what to buy. I have just a couple of criteria:
preferably petrol and manual under 150bhp (for insurance) generally a nice and most importantly fun car to drive
I am not particularly into japanese cars, although i can get myself to trust reddits suggestions😂
I’m a huge alfa fan if that is enough to shed light on my frame of mind.
Thank you!

As many have said look at a Mazda Miata or a Toyota Corolla with a manual.

Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce checks both boxes.

I gotta be that guy and say
Miata is always the answer

I’m biased because that’s what have, but this is a good answer. Older Miatas have the right HP, are plentiful, easy to work on, and are forgiving of new drivers.

Probably looking at about 5-10k for one in good condition but a Lexus is300/toyota Altezza with the 4 cylinder is a solid bet. Toyota reliability, the practicality of a 4 door, and a semi-sporty rwd setup with huge amounts of aftermarket support for later

Im on my second alfa and currently drive a giulietta quadrifoglio and its a blast to drive, haven’t had any issues yet. There’s also a 120 and a 170 hp version.
The giuliettas are reliable as long as you maintain them correctly

If you want to light money on fire and learn how to wrench a bit, sure, get an Alfa.

On my 2nd alfa and haven’t had any major issues yet, alfa is a lot more reliable these days as long as you maintain them correctly

I’d go for a 2013+
