engine swap

I'm planning an engine swap for my 2001 Toyota RAV4 second gen, using a 3SGTE ST205 engine. I’ve see others complete this swap and am curious about the amount of work involved and what needs to be replaced/modified to accommodate the new engine.

Have you ever removed and replaced an engine and transmission? It’s that much work, except every piece that it connects to needs to be custom made or modified.

I have a mechanic as a brother to help so I’m not afraid of taking out the engine, and I’m also pretty good at welding so I can make the engine mounts and other modifications. I’m just wondering how hard the wiring will be, is it as simple as soldering the wires to the 3sGTE ECU or would I need to get a universal ecu like one from haltech? And is there anything other then that I’d need to do? I know there is probably videos on it but I’ll still ask anyways

Your ECU should match your engine or you will need a standalone. You should absolutely not solder your connections, properly crimp an re-pin all connectors. You will also need to know how to read schematics so you can connect to the body harness as needed.

i have never removed and or replaced an engine or transmission, but I am looking for a project to work on over the winter. so it seems like i have a lot of work ahead of me

Yeah, I love the RAV4, it be so nice to have one that has more horsepower

Yeah I got excited seeing the hurricrate(new I6 twin turbo) for my WJ. The rav4’s are slick, and more power is always better.

Ask in a sub dedicated to the specific vehicle you’re working on, how the hell are we supposed to know about that specific swap?
This sub is to talk about and share your projects, not to be spoonfed information on how to do things…
Ghost17088@reddit
While you aren’t wrong, the Rav4 sub is also about as mechanically illiterate as you can get.
TheSeansk1@reddit
If only there was a website you could go to that collected information from the entire internet. Then you could type in stuff and see all of the old forum posts and such about engine swapping, maybe even some videos people may have made about it…
Ghost17088@reddit
I wasn’t disagreeing with you, but sure, be a sarcastic dick.
TheSeansk1@reddit
Well, keep asking stupid questions and see how stupid the answers are.
Basically it comes down to this. If you’re unwilling or unable to even search how to do something, that project is impossible for you. Search yourself and ask questions based on the results you find, or get lost. Don’t expect people to just give you information this specific if you’re not going to even try and find it on your own.
Ghost17088@reddit
You realize I’m not the OP right? So far I have agreed with every one of your sentiments…
TheSeansk1@reddit
Nope, sure didn’t realize that. Just figured with your comments arguing with me and the downvoting that you were, my apologies.
Ghost17088@reddit
What’s funny is I didn’t downvote you. Other people probably did because you’re being a bit of a dick.
TheSeansk1@reddit
I do not react well to stupid questions, and it is the tendency of people nowadays with the entirety of the internet at their fingertips to not bother looking for the answer they seek. They want everything spoonfed to them. This isn’t a sub for that.

I found this. https://www.drivingline.com/articles/not-your-everyday-rav4-3sgte-engine-swapped-and-papadakis-built-cuv/ Not sure if it applies to your year Rav4 but it would definitly be a sweet swap.
