Question about monitors

So, I have two monitors on my desk, one is connected via display port and is my main monitor, and the other is connected via hdmi and is the secondary monitor. I also have a tv that is connected to the pc via hdmi and I want it to mirror my main monitor to play games from the couch while my girlfriend is with me. For some reason, it mirrors my secondary monitor. Is it because the second monitor and TV are using hdmi cables for their connection? I used to do this all the time before I got a new monitor and it worked fine.

Have you checked the display settings on your pc?

Yeah, I guess I should have said this too, but the main monitor is at 165hz and the TV that I want to use is only 60hz. I don't know if that matters. But I look at the options for mirroring and it's display 1 and 3 and when I pick it, the monitors flash a bit and defaults to 2 and 3.

What about your graphic card settings?

I haven't checked that at all. What should I check there?

Also take a look at the display settings in your graphics card (sth like Nvidia control panel) and check if it's up to date. If that doesn’t work, try resetting everything. It could also just be the difference in refresh rates between the devices causing the issue.

I dropped my main monitor from 165 to 60 and it still wouldn't mirror to the TV. Could the difference in connection cables be the issue too?

Yeah might be.....

I figured it out. It was the cable. I swapped it to an hdmi and it duplicated the monitor fine. The reason it was defaulting to my secondary monitor was because it had the same connection cable.

Glad you figured it out! Enjoy you setup.
