We were in Bridlington last weekend & there was a thunderstorm around 2am one night. It was proper spectacular and went on for ages!

Are thunderstorms rare in London or was this really big (just wondering cos in Northumberland they aren't uncommon)
Foxtrot7888@reddit
The one lat night was the loudest I can remember.

Yes, heard it in Surrey! It woke me but my husband and 1 year old slept through it. I thought the roof was coming in!

Sharing a room with my toddler at the in laws in Hertford and he sleeps with thunderstorm white noise, so yes but not the one you are referring to.

Lincolnshire. A storm usually wakes me up and I slept soundly all night.
Just grey and drizzle here now.
daz1987@reddit
Currently on a nightshift. We've had heavy rain in Midlands but no storms.

Most horrifying thing ever, it might be me being dramatic but I HATE thunderstorms… we seemed to have it so so bad I’m in Hertfordshire, my whole house was actually awake and me and my boyfriend were shaken up as we left the window open in my room and it decided to continuously strike cars outside my house setting off 3 alarms at once..I actually felt so sick because of the intital shock lolll I’ve never ever in my life had it feel like my house and outside my house was constantly getting struck. Now it’s all gone everything feels so quiet. Cant sleep though honestly so scared to wake up to a noise that loud again aha
mewtotit@reddit
It was just a next level dystopian film so yeah saying it felt like the world was gonna end is spot on, just seeing the strikes hit the cars and just set everything off was insane, non stop lighting. 20 years alive never ever seen it like this…..
mewtotit@reddit
I know I’m carrying it on but seeing people say it was tame I’m jealous, the thunder was so so loud, And the lighting was striking left right and centre with monsoon kinda rain. I’m actually shocked but also intrigued at this. Hope everyone’s animals are safe. My kitty it out there some where probably shit scared :(

It is here now just south of London, I am wide awake !

Just saw the first lightning here in Cambridge at 3.15. Fairly minor. Maybe it's running out of puff.

Woke me up in West London. It lasted for so long and was cool to see but now im sat here wide awake
TrousersCalledDave@reddit
It was pretty tame here in South Essex. A fair bit of lightning, almost no rain and barely audible thunder. Yet I've seen numerous posts not far away in London saying it was absolutely mental.
