Should I fix my 2013 BMW X1 timing chain, leave it alone, or sell it?

The mechanic found out our timing chain should be replaced when he was fixing an oil leak. The cost to repair that in addition to the oil leak was close to the resale value of the car.
It has 92k miles. I’m sick of the repair costs on it. One friend was arguing it’s fine line it is. I should sell it eventually just don’t floor it. Another was arguing that I should repair this and keep it, as nothing else is likely to break until 170,000k.
What should I do?

First find a mechanic that's not gonna overcharge you just to replace a timing chain and some gaskets, then keep it until it falls apart. Have you seen the car market today?

What’s a “good” deal on a timing chain swap out? Should I just sell it without changing it?

Usually less than 2k even on the expensive end. If you sell it without changing it, please disclose it needs a new one.

You said it yourself, you're sick of the repair costs. Even if you fix the timing chain there will be more expensive repairs in the future. So it seems to me your decision hinges on whether you're comfortable with that. Yes, German cars are generally reliable and good quality but the parts and repair costs can be a killer over the life of the vehicle. If I were you I would look into buying a new or slightly used Acura SUV, you can't go wrong with Japanese and although certainly not inexpensive they come with good warranties so you'll be set at least for several years without any major expenses. Even after you're out of warranty Honda and Acura are generally easy to work on and parts are reasonably inexpensive. If you drive the BMW until the timing chain breaks the car will be worth almost nothing, nobody is going to give you money for an undrivable vehicle.
