I know 90’s fashion trends has been creeping back for a while but…

Now it’s in full force. I went cloth shopping for my kids today. I’m walking around the girls section and I’m like holy 90s fashion Batman! It felt so surreal to me. How do you feel about 90’s trends coming back?
Wynndo@reddit
I'm 34, rocking platform Melissa jelly sandals. They smell like Hubba Bubba
powergorillasuit@reddit
I was a fat little girl in the 90s/00s and thanks to heroin chic and flat stomachs as accessories, I never got to wear the cute, stylish clothes other girls did. Now I’m a fat grown up woman, sizing is much more inclusive and the styles are coming back, so I get to wear all the clothes I loved and dreamed of wearing as a girl. I’m happy as Larry
Esselon@reddit
About the same as when bellbottoms came back into fashion in the 90s, I generally nod my head and go "yeah, there's only so many ideas and styles you can do that aren't weird, so they just cycle back around".
gitismatt@reddit
I saw a t-shirt with the "Mellon collie and the infinite sadness" picture on it
like do the zooms even know what that is????
Esselon@reddit
Do people know what older bands are that you can look up and listen to? Gonna have to go with yes, just as there were kids in the 90s listening to The Doors and Led Zeppelin, despite neither of those bands being on tour or releasing new music at that time.
CaliSinae@reddit
No - a lot of them actually think Nirvana is a girl’s fashion brand that has a smiley face logo.
Wifabota@reddit
I heard someone call their Nirvana sweatshirt...(Gulp)... PREPPY.
my soul started on fire and I died. The world isn't real. You can just call things whatever you want anymore. Nothing matters.
thegiantbadger@reddit
Truth. I saw a girl in a nirvana shirt at my work. I was listening the the unplugged album. I said, oh we’re listening to nirvana right now! She goes, what? Who?
She literally pulled “I don’t know her” about nirvana. I almost died of old age.
naamingebruik@reddit
My daughter is actually into Nirvana so she had the same experience you had with her peers.
guardbiscuit@reddit
Same with my kid!
The_Curvy_Unicorn@reddit
I do some volunteer work with teens. One walked in one night, all excited, and told me that “Nirvana is getting back together and my mom said she’d buy me tickets!” I didn’t even know what to say.
FungiStudent@reddit
Well, are they getting back together?!? Lol
Dusty-Staccato@reddit
Totally. They're just gonna Weekend at Bernie's Kurt up on the stage
Boetheus@reddit
Better than hologram Kurt
stibgock@reddit
Smells like Kurt's Spirit?
PlaneLocksmith6714@reddit
Smells like Kurt period

Too soon.
cjbevins99@reddit
Kind of. I’m the form of the foo fighters
CaliSinae@reddit
At WORK !!! - I would need more information as to why she is wearing that shirt with that response and I would have to school her the music.
thegiantbadger@reddit
I actually work in an outdoor gear shop and work with customers so that’s why she was there in her nirvana brand tee. I did tell her it was a band directly and that they’re really good. She asked when she left what the name of the song we were listening to was. It was all apologies. I don’t know if she looked it up or even liked it, but at least she knows now.
twobit211@reddit
i heard a rumour (though i can’t speak to the veracity of it) that ucla gear is popular in parts of eastern europe but the wearers are under the impression that it’s an american sports clothing brand pronounced “yoo-kla”
Spanks79@reddit
It will be 90’s when even in Europe everyone wears a charlotte hornets jacket/shirt/cap.
CaliSinae@reddit
BTW this specific genre of vintage fashion is extremely popular in the cool neighborhoods of Tokyo right now! Specifically American sportswear from the 90s.
badteach248@reddit
It is popular, but it's such a well known University that it is not mistaken for a sports brand, or pronounced that way.
crystal-myth@reddit
I was at TJ Maxx two months back and overheard an 10-11 year old girl telling her grandma that she need to buy her a Nirvana t-shirt. In my mind I was yelling, "Why, because it's 'preppy'?"
CaliSinae@reddit
“name a song!” 😂

I was at Disneyland a few months ago and saw at least three middle school kids wearing Nirvana shirts. It is wild.
Sapiophile23@reddit
That made me die a little inside.

Don’t tell Forever 21.
prince_walnut@reddit
Hey my wife has that one.. she's 44
Kulban@reddit
I mean, it's not like we didn't know what the Dark Side of the Moon, Abbey Road, and Led Zeppelin I covers looked like. And we didn't have the Internet.
Not did it mean none of us from our generation didn't listen to music decades before or time.
al_m1101@reddit
Yeah when you wore those shirts "back then" you HAD to know about them, lest you be called out and labeled a "poser." Which was like one of the worst things you could be called by your peers, haha.
tessathemurdervilles@reddit
Truth- there was a stigma to not knowing what the band was if you wore the t shirt. It was a way of signifying you were part of a club, wearing a band shirt. Now it’s just throwaway fashion :(
TheDeanof316@reddit
...don't get me started on Iron Maiden tees today....
Additional-Local8721@reddit
My daughter wears my Ride the Lighting t-shirt. Thankfully, she actually listens to Metallica and has gone to two Metallica concerts. I will not raise a poser.
TheDeanof316@reddit
You are doing an excellent parenting job 👌 \m/\m/
One day when I have nephew/s and/or niece/s they shall not be posers either.
guardbiscuit@reddit
Why? My best friend’s 17 year old daughter is a huge IM fan. Why shouldn’t she wear the t-shirt?
TheDeanof316@reddit
She's a fan that's cool, but I was responding to the comment above mine which was saying how band tees today are mainly throwaway fashion or tik tok trends etc rather than worn by actual fans of the band, which back when we were 17 didnt really happen and if it did you were called a poser.
gypsyjacks453@reddit
Having younger nieces and nephews, I can tell you, being called a poser is still a thing. Often the kids do know the band they’re wearing.
Physical-Name4836@reddit
No it’s not. That’s internet bullshit. Try calling out a kid with an old school band on it and they’ll let you know what’s up. Yeet
sleezy_McCheezy@reddit
I have. Both times they told me that they just thought the design was cool. One time it was a Pink Floyd shirt, and the other time was a Nirvana shirt.
sick_of-it-all@reddit
I keep seeing the same Nirvana shirt everywhere, teenage boys, girls, they both wear it. It’s the dark blue one with Nirvana written in yellow with the yellow smiley face on it. They must be selling it at Walmart right now, I don’t know how it’s the same shirt everywhere. I would actually believe these kids like Nirvana if I would see one shirt that looked different than something you could pick up at Walmart mass produced.
ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c@reddit
Maybe they will, maybe they won't. That's the trouble with bands which became famous, and subsequently mainstream, decades ago. The merchandise is available everywhere, and more likely to be bought by people who just like the designs, or know one or two songs. It was the same when we were kids, except a lot of us were pretty fucking mean about it.
I don't understand "yeet" in this context.
gitismatt@reddit
but they weren't selling those shirts in mass appeal stores. like you couldnt get a zeppelin shirt at jcp
guardbiscuit@reddit
Things are different now. Stores know trends 100x more than pre-internet days, so they can follow/accomodate them.
Gravelsack@reddit
Nonsense man, you could buy Zeppelin shirts at Spencer's Gifts along with any other popular 60s band's t-shirts and posters. They had a whole rack of them. When I was in high school there was a massive 60s revival and everyone was listening to Zeppelin, the Beatles, Floyd, etc. I got super into the Grateful Dead at that time.
for_the_shiggles@reddit
You don’t get it, everything was special and genuine when they were a child.
ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c@reddit
There were a bunch of stores which popped up or shifted to cater to that exact thing in the 90s. Hot Topic and a bunch of other stores were selling Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath shirts, in addition to 60s and 70s rock bands.
Clem_bloody_Fandango@reddit
I got mone -and a nice ZOSO poster-T Sam Goody. And a jerry bear dead tie die
Kulban@reddit
I remember seeing them at hot topic.
On_my_last_spoon@reddit
This. I grew up on Fleetwood Mac and Jimmy Buffet. That and all the albums you listed were the music of our parents generation.
Teens and college kids grew up with parents playing Smashing Pumpkins, Missy Elliot, and other 90s music. They are familiar because they’ve heard it their whole lives.
willthechem@reddit
I knew I was old when the kid working at the grocery store said “Nice shirt, they’re my dad’s favorite band!” while I was wearing this shirt.
TheSunscreenQueen@reddit
No. I am a teacher, and kids are always wearing band t-shirts. When I ask them about their shirt, they reply, “I saw it at Target/Journeys/Hot Topic/whatever, and thought it looked cool.” Sigh.
Nightstone42@reddit
to them it's dad rock

shoepolishsmellngmf@reddit
I see kids wearing more 90s band t shirts than current stuff.
Spider-1205@reddit
SP just put out a new album I think lol
guardbiscuit@reddit
It sucks. :(
Adrasteia-One@reddit
They did, and it rocks harder than anything they've done in years. Check it out. Billy actually looks happy and content in many of the interviews he has done.
Spider-1205@reddit
He really does, and I'm so happy for him... expecting another baby, I think I read.... and you're right he looks wonderful 🖤😍
Adrasteia-One@reddit
It's great to see, isn't it? I know he's dealt with a lot in his life, so it's comforting to know he's in a better place. We're really lucky he and the band are still releasing music after all of these years!
steamed_pork_bunz@reddit
They did, it kinda whips ass actually

steamed_pork_bunz@reddit
Ha! Good!
Spider-1205@reddit
Yes! I heard it was really good.... im glad this popped up,, I wanted to download but kind of forgot about it lol
guardbiscuit@reddit
Yes, they do. It’s my kid’s best friend’s favorite album. They’re 15.
SnacksandViolets@reddit
Well during my Zeppelin phase my Mother blew my teenage mind knowing who they were (lmao at me), so now in the internet age I’m sure GenZ does!
rargylesocks@reddit
I saw one and bought it. Next is Nirvana, G&R, and the general replacement of my t-shirts & flannels that got too worn out to wear. Those & sweatpants shall be my uniform of old age.
electrodog1999@reddit
I’m on my fourth Ride the Lightning shirt with the electric chair on the back. It’s time to look for the fifth soon so thankfully they are easy to find still.
gypsyjacks453@reddit
They actually do. Spotify 90s stations—the kids love them.
Illustrated-skies@reddit
Saw shirts for 5-10 year olds at Walmart with ACDC & Rolling Stones!
MabsAMabbin@reddit
I bet you kind find Krokus at Walmart. I think I'll dredge mine up lol.
RaisingAurorasaurus@reddit
My 8yo accidentally brought me an Aerosmith shirt at Walmart talking about how much she loved it. I immediately threw it in the cart 😅
Mooseandagoose@reddit
My Gen Alpha daughter told me that Billy’s hair was “weird”, thinks Zwan sucks and doesn’t know why people thought smashing pumpkins was good - but her friends have the tshirt so they must be ok “I guess”.
Spanks79@reddit
wtf is Zwan?
badteach248@reddit
It was a band Bully Corgan started un 2002-2003 ish. Went on tour and made one album (which I have, and love). But in Billy Corgan fashion, he was a dick to the other members, and expected perfection from them. They broke up.
amayain@reddit
There was also a fair amount of personal drama in zwan and Billy alienated the band by acting like the moral police.
badteach248@reddit
Yeah... bummed me out because I honestly enjoyed that disc, and the videos from it. It looked like he woke up from a dark emo sleep and was happy....but in his own style he crushed it.
cyberllama@reddit
No... Billy would never do such a thing, he's far too level-headed to behave like that 😂
Spanks79@reddit
Ah, never knew. Siamese dream defined part of my high school years. But the person Billy Corgan never interested me that much 😝
FungiStudent@reddit
Goddammit, there is a gen alpha now, too?
ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c@reddit
Where do these people keep coming from?!?
Every_Instruction775@reddit
Yup 2013-2025
Why_So-Serious@reddit
Gen Alpha are teenagers now.
Gen Z is the workplace.
Those cloths are targeted at kids of millennials, Gen Alpha.
gertrudeblythe@reddit
My son is 14 and Smashing Pumpkins is his favorite band!
whymygraine@reddit
I heard a joke about Nirvana being a clothing brand. Can't say if it was true but the way these kids wear mullets and pit vipers, I wouldn't be surprised.
tiad123@reddit
Yes, some. My 20yo son has a Mellon collie tshirt and has listened to nearly all Smashing Pumpkins albums. He's really into 90s music. He's probably found more obscure Nirvana songs than I have.
Hutch_travis@reddit
If you wanted to do the 90d correct, it’d be the zero shirt. The Mellon Collie shirt was a tour shirt
Physical-Name4836@reddit
Yes
wickedpixel1221@reddit

DrMcJedi@reddit
That’s that new dog park and tapas place by the mall, right?
Outrageous_Lettuce44@reddit

Sorry…forgot it’s a trampoline park and workspace sharing depot and park and ride now…you know, that big empty stretch by the freeway entrance where the lights are always red forever…
al_m1101@reddit
You didn't have to do that to me. That was harsh.
dishonorable_banana@reddit

gingergrisgris@reddit
My teen has one because he actually really likes the band. We just saw them love and he bought another shirt at their show. Their new album is pretty good as well.
mikemar05@reddit
It's the fashion now. And it's the pretty look which doesn't mean what it used to. And they don't know any of the banda they wear. Nirvana Def Leppard Smashing Pumpkin etc
seche314@reddit
It’s a $7 shirt you can buy at target
gitismatt@reddit
but. I saw it in a store that wasn't target. so.
seche314@reddit
Ok? I’m sure downvoting my comment will help, thanks
gitismatt@reddit

Sen_Sational@reddit
My husband was stoked our teenage daughter bought a shirt from his fav band!
stavago@reddit
My niece and nephew do, but that’s because my sister and I still listen to Smashing Pumpkins when her kids are around
According_To_Me@reddit
I was not old enough, or given the choice, to wear a lot of the fashion I wanted to wear as a 90’s kid. I’m al for it. There was an awesome mixture of tasteful evening wear, grunge casual, and preppy. I love the cuts and silhouettes so much. I just wish I had the budget to go shopping.
Aspiring-Old-Guy@reddit
Cargo Pants, let's go!!!
SmallSaltyMermaid@reddit
For women, the crop tops are the same. The pants are definitely not though. I don’t recall anything high waisted in my teens. I remember wearing bag mid- rise jeans with a short sleeve crop top and flannel tied around my waist.
I’m just missing the color selection. I’m not a beige person and it’s hard to find good clothing beyond black, white, and beige. These matching sets that have become the latest “quiet luxury” fashion trend is tiresome and old already. I’m not a Lily Pulitzer person either, but damn clothing designers give us some color.
theoracleofdreams@reddit
I'm a dark neutrals type person myself and just add in color with my accessories, but I feel this so much. GIVE ME DARK OLIVE or PLUM SOMETHING!!!!
SmallSaltyMermaid@reddit
Amen!
Old-Piece-3438@reddit
I always feel like I must be the only person that thinks high waisted pants are uncomfortable. I miss low rise (not ultra low rise where your underwear show when you sit down—that’s too low for me 😂).
AshDawgBucket@reddit
High waist physically hurts. I hate it.
Spanks79@reddit
Also, ultra low rise is the early 2000’s Britney Spears look.
Bandando@reddit
Inject all of this into my veins. So sick of beige, beige, beige, and no, I won’t be buying any of these wide-legged jeans until they ditch the high-rise and the wedgie cut.
WhippidyWhop@reddit
Beige is bland, and those high-rise jeans look like granny pants when women wear them.
I think it's supposed to help women who don't have much booty, but it looks like female Urkel.
Bandando@reddit
Except I saw a woman wearing Urkel glasses last year so I don’t think they see it as dorky like we do.
WhippidyWhop@reddit
Hahah funny you mention that - this young lady who works at the local Starbucks, I ran into her at Target the other day. She had those pants on and the big Urkel style glasses! I think she's about 17 or so.
I also think it looks nerdy/dorky. I mean it's cool if that's your thing, I just can't unsee the granny panty Urkel traits.
moeru_gumi@reddit
My last Uber driver was a girl slightly younger than me with tightly pulled back hair and HUGE pink frame circular glasses, like from forehead to nostril. She looked like a Bubble Tape commercial character.

ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c@reddit
The jeans of our older siblings and mothers?
Kellysi83@reddit
This style with vans or chucks was peak! I’m here for it!
Aezetyr@reddit
Same reason that people started wearing bell-bottom jeans and all those '70's fashions, then 80's fashions again later on. It's all cyclical. in 10 years people are gonna be wearing nothing but hoodies and skinny jeans like it was a few years back. Source: Gen X.
ozamatazbuckshank11@reddit
I'm using this opportunity to stock up on wide-legged pants because I don't know when they'll be back again.
AshDawgBucket@reddit
The wide legs I've found have been high waist and like high waters. Like the bottom of the pants are an inch or 2 above my shoes.
Are you finding any that are low rise and/or cover your feet? If so where??
ozamatazbuckshank11@reddit
I'm naturally high waisted, so they sit normal on me. I've seen some mid-rise options out there, though. As for the lengths, I'm finding longer ones at Lands' End and St. John's Bay (JC Penney). You have to do a little digging, but the normal, standard inseams are also out there. I don't wear cropped pants (🤮), so I feel you!
Oryx1300@reddit
Exactly!!
freezinginthemidwest@reddit
They’re still in!
AshDawgBucket@reddit
I would love if low rise jeans would please make a resurgence.
It does feel weird that like... in the late 90s I was late to grunge. Lol. Now 20 years later these kids are into grunge.

Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
stretchy pants
BoudiccasWrath79@reddit
Probably a regional thing. We were definitely sporting them in the early 90s, and they were gone by 93.
DrenAss@reddit
My mom bought me nothing but stirrup pants for a couple years when I was a kid. I HATED them because they were all thin and dorky colors. All I wanted was jeans, the universally cool pant.
Best-Investigator261@reddit
Omg, just no 😂 😂 😂
figment81@reddit
As someone with long legs, I spent every day in middle school trying to like up my pants, because my mom had to make me wear them, and they were always too short on me

Same! Things don’t fit. I’m a 37” inseam.
Old-Piece-3438@reddit
I remember buying my mom a pair of stirrup leggings as part of an outfit for a Mother’s Day gift (circa early 90’s, I guess?), now I understand why she never wore them.
Best-Investigator261@reddit
😂
guardbiscuit@reddit
That’s how my mom felt when I started wearing bell bottoms in high school in the 90’s. What’s so bad about fashion cycles? Personally, I hope I never get stagnant.

Elcamina@reddit
Oh no, I forgot about those! Is it just me or was there a lot of burgundy velvet? I also had a purple velvet jacket.
LaeliaCatt@reddit
Mine was definitely burgundy! I also remember wearing leggings with a lace cuff at the bottom and those were fall colors like burgundy and mustard. I think I wore them under shorts and also under the occasional baby doll dress, haha.
peekaboooobakeep@reddit
Those things always bothered my feet...Oooo but I love me some scrunched up socks!
Bandando@reddit
Amazon. Bought a pair for work (don’t ask), but I’ll be damned if they weren’t straight out of the 80s. Pretty thick knit, too, not at all flimsy like a lot of socks are now.
peekaboooobakeep@reddit
Noice!
orangepaperlantern@reddit
Yuck. I had a dusty rose colored pair that matched an oversized wide-striped white and dusty rose cowl neck sweater in 4th grade. I thought I was so cool. I’d wear it with white slouchy ankle boots IIRC.

gareththegeek@reddit

blessitspointedlil@reddit
Many of the 90s inspired fashions in the stores are hideously ugly (sometimes just because of the color) and most people don’t look good in crop tops. It makes it harder for me to shop, but I don’t mind some of the pants. The band shirts are fun as long as you actually listen to the music and enjoy it!
Jets237@reddit
We were at the mall yesterday and…. The T-Shirt section in newbury comics is… just 80s and 90s bands…. Green day dookie, Metallica master of puppets shirts…. Have there been no popular bands in 30 years? I was really confused

ANH_DarthVader@reddit
Educator here for a couple of decades +.
I've been seeing baggy jeans and high-waisted jeans coming back. The rock t shirts have been around for a few years already.
I'm waiting for the early 80's rock and metal look to come back so I can take my old clothes out of storage. Hahaha!
Oryx1300@reddit
I am so here for it. I went shopping with my 12 year old daughter yesterday and I felt like I was in my era. And she was in hers! I have been patiently waiting for skinny jeans to go out of fashion for years. Hallelujah!
Imaginary_Attempt_82@reddit
I’m really excited about this honestly. Dresses and combat boots, here I come!
azazel-13@reddit
As a woman who wasn't fond of skinny pants I couldn't be happier. A year or two ago when wide legged pants started becoming popular again, I threw away every skinny pant item and filled my closet with wide legged pants. It's fucking glorious! I know a lot of millennials have taken a stance of holding onto skinny pants with all their might, but I ripped them out of my closet with glee and haven't looked back. No crop tops for this time around but I'm down with the pants, tons of tie dye band shirts, and flannels.
minicooperlove@reddit
As a short person, I totally disagree. I don’t know about now but in the 90s they never seemed to make wide legs in petites and I’m too old now to be wearing jeans that drag on the floor get all dirty and ripped. Bootcut is okay, but I actually like my tall boots and don’t want to cover them up. Why can’t fashion just be about what each individual looks best in?
azazel-13@reddit
Things have changed a lot since the 90s. I'm short as well, so I get it, but so many shops offer petite sizing. My pants do not drag the ground.
keep_everything_good@reddit
Same! I was so thrilled when flares came back. Only ever liked/like skinnies when paired with high boots. Otherwise, give me boot cut/flares any day.
Anjapayge@reddit
My 12 year old is the same with the wide leg.. she is bone thin and when we went jean shopping, she determined wide leg is her jean of choice. The only issue is her being petite. But luckily I can shop online and get petite.
Spanks79@reddit
Lmao, just bought this high rise baggy jeans with my daughter yesterday. She would rather die on the spot than wear low rise, skinny jeans 😝.
Me, a dad that lifts weights and has thighs that won’t even fit most normal jeans, I love a bit more baggy pants. There was a period I just couldn’t find anything fitting (ridiculous skinny craze)
dreamyduskywing@reddit
I was delighted to see bootcut jeans on shelves again. The skinny jeans thing was not for me!
Maybe_Fine@reddit
Where are you finding bootcut??? I NEED them!
Waste-Reflection-235@reddit (OP)
I have never owned a pair of skinny jeans. They never appealed to me. Since I couldn’t find flares I’d buy boot legs. I’m kinda excited about flares coming back.
orangepaperlantern@reddit
Oh I’m definitely one of the skinny pants adherents. For jeans and work pants. I only own one pair of wide leg pants and they’re linen blend, for hot weather. I find it hard to pair the right shirt with them. Gimme skinny pants all day.
chellybeanery@reddit
Big same! My jeans are now all wide-leg and boot-cut, the way that nature intended. The world is healing.
SurlySuz@reddit
I haven’t been able to do the crop tops since I was 11, but I’m all for the flannel coming back. I wonder if I still have my old flannel shirts somewhere… I swear my 16 yr old keeps reminding me of my older brother circa 1992 too with a tucked in button-ups over t-shirt and belted jeans.

I am with you! I actually could never really get into skinnies and worked around it for all that time, keeping my flared jeans or leggings, I don't know. But I couldn't deal with skinnies. So I am THRILLED with all this loose clothing. It's so cozy, so 90s, I feel so at-home in them.
ineedstheanime@reddit
I'm just glad I can find pants again.
Bandando@reddit
But aren’t they too high-waisted and wedgie fit? Seriously, I catch sight of a kiddo with the wider legged pants but it’s always with a waist up to the tatas and a wedgie seam up the keister. My middle-aged ass does not need that! Where are you finding your jeans?!
ineedstheanime@reddit
Yeah, I hate the high waist stuff. Hollister has a ton of low rise baggy pants and a few midrise. Might find something there! I've just been buying men's jeans for a while and living in overalls the rest of the time.
Bandando@reddit
Thanks! I will check them out!
monstereatspilot@reddit
90’s fashion is good. What’s absolutely awful is that they’re trying to resurrect the 00’s. They need to stay dead and buried

Girl, I’m living for the oughts resurgence
that-one-girl-who@reddit
You can’t wait for gauchos, ponchos, shrugs, ultra low rise jeans, platform thong sandals and cheap polyester lace trim camis? You can have them all. Lol. No thank you! While I fully participated in these trends, I will not be revisiting.
thegiantbadger@reddit
I never wore any of that because I’m a guy, but I think a lot of it is fun. I think the real cool stuff is the kids that are doing emo and scene looks, numetal fashion (idk what to call this), fun huge pants, cool hair, etc. I also don’t think a lot of the trends you’re talking about will actually cycle back in the same way we experienced them. Maybe gauchos.
Old-Piece-3438@reddit
Don’t forget the copious amounts of body glitter.

Pff, no. We want the emo goth girls back though.

If we could maybe just go ahead and skip the whole "overdo everything" phase¹, that'd be awesome. 😆
¹^Examples including drowning everyone in your scented product of choice; using a cartoonish amount of hair product - like my dudes whose hair doesn't move; wearing more makeup than Tammy Faye Baker; tanning so much you look like a different ethnicity; saying "bro" at least one per sentence; wearing a backwards visor - UPSIDE DOWN; thinking people like the Jersey Shore cast are something worth aspiring to; CROCS; etc..
thegiantbadger@reddit
Bro. I might agree with you on the scented stuff because that can actually harm other people. But bro, everything else you described is fun, bro.

My 7-year-old loves wearing chokers and those little hair clips that girls wore all the time in the late 90s and early 00s. She even enjoys listening to Letters to Cleo, hehe.
Spooky365@reddit
In the 90's my mom told me to watchout because fashion is cyclical and the stuff I wore as a teen would come back. She told me this in the later part of the 90's, when there was a 60's and 70's fashion resurgence. She also took advantage of the trend and stocked up on cute clogs. I'm going to follow her lead and stock up on flannel and skater dresses. I'd avoid buying new Docs though, they aren't the same as back in the day.
peanutbutter2178@reddit
I never stopped wearing flannel, holy jeans, and band t-shirts. I added non holy jeans, brewery t-shirts, and hoodies.

I went to try and buy some jeans last weekend. The wide leg jeans now are basically jnco’s! High school flashbacks of dragging those big ass pant legs around. Get near a puddle and they’d soak up water to the knee and never dry
Eeyor-90@reddit
They’re not quite JNCOs, JNCOs had pockets that were functional.
remoteworker9@reddit
I won’t wear high rise jeans but everything else 90s is cool.
gwinnsolent@reddit
It’s kinda pissing me off. I love wearing band shirts and wide leg jeans, but now I look like a teenager, at least, according to my kids. I had to remind them that the teenagers looked like me! Bitches stole my loom.
But I don’t want to be a gatekeeping asshole. It’s pretty cool to see a 12yo wearing a Bauhaus shirt. A band that’s older than I am! Old things can still be cool!
comicshopgrl@reddit
"Old things can still be cool" should be a flair on this sub.

Anjapayge@reddit
My 12 year old gets compliments for her choice of style from grown adults. Yesterday she wore her platform doc martins, knee high socks that had a spider and web pattern on them, shorts, and a hot topic shirt. She also has blonde/green hair that was in a short pigtails and spider web front clip. She mostly dresses hot topic 90’s, no band shirts. She’s petite, so the platform doc martins help with her height - that she is almost 5’2. Luckily my short ass knows where to go for all these styles - old navy for jeans (though you have to buy online now), hot topic for the t-shirts. And I got her doc Martins from their website.
In my day, you could only get stuff from shops around the area and I usually went by myself at her age. Now it’s all online. I usually take her to stores to test out sizing. Old Navy doesn’t carry petite jeans in stores - most everything is online.

delibertine@reddit
No complaints from me. Feels good to be wearing what I used to. My wife and I took my 12 year old niece shopping recently and she was flabbergasted we knew what she would like because what she likes is all the "latest" 90's stuff
It was a bit of a shock to her as she's being raised by my MIL who's a boomer and a bit out of touch
Icy-Profession-1979@reddit
It was a shock for me when my mom said “I used to wear flared jeans!” in the actually 90s. Made me want to not wear them LOL
tasukiko@reddit
As a short pear shaped lady, wide legs make me look more even heavier on the lower half and low rise make me look shorter so that's a big no thank you on that front. Other things are like whatever because I probably won't buy them, but pants trends take over everywhere and for a really long time so I hate when they cycle to something that doesn't suit me.
Icy-Profession-1979@reddit
I wish I kept all my JNCO jeans so I could sell them on eBay now

Saw a young nb kid (18 or 19) walking around with giant jeans on a really cute cutoff top (something you can literally only do when you’re that young so I’m glad they were rocking it) today while visiting a local university a few weeks before they start their school year. Before that saw this other 18 or 19 year old guy who literally was wearing the same exact clothes and hair I would have had back in 2000-2002 - baggy olive techy fabric khakis with a fitted/tightish basic grey t shirt with gelled hair. I mean this kid looked like he straight up just left the Structure store at the mall or something. So weird it’s like being in a time warp.
cotton_wad@reddit
Story time: Went to the dispensery and the young budtender was wearing a Def Leppard T Shirt. I, not remembering my age, begin the commonly known joke to break the ice: "What has eight legs, seven arms and sucks?" And the punch line is usually an unspoken funny laugh with a smile from both parties, but my young counterpart WASN'T HAVING IT. Okay, I'm old. I fucking get it. People don't wear band shirts because they like the bands. They like the fashion. What is even happening anymore.
For those who don't know: Def Leppard is a band whose drummer has only one arm. And they totally don't suck.
fairlyaveragetrader@reddit

I went to a Limp Bizkit show a couple weeks ago and the crowd was 50/50 Gen x and zoomers. Pretty much no millennials. That generation loves not just the fashion but the music, it's their awesome "dad rock." And JNCO has to be back in business because I saw so many, there must have been 50,000 lb of denim there
whenth3bowbreaks@reddit
Some of the things I like but honestly most of it gives me traumatic flashbacks because of late '90s were some of the hardest days and years of my life as I was kicked out of my home. So it just reminds me of my own abject proverty at that time my sense of helplessness and my loneliness.

HS teacher here too. Recently formed bands at my school are working on Zombie and Smells like Teen Spirit. One of the kid's audition songs was Just a Girl. Brings back memories of school discos and our own resident band playing similar songs.

Honestly, I love it. 00s fashion was a scourge on the earth, and I missed looser jeans and wider-legged jeans and also just more casual loose clothing for women in general. Also crop tops, but cute ones.
Ps controversial yet brave, but I fucking hate ankle socks.
Anyway, I don't care if the teens don't know what the fuck they're wearing, we didn't know shit in the '90s either and that's okay, because it means I get to wear baggy shirts and sweaters and looser jeans & that's okay.

Neon_1984@reddit
Men’s trends currently are just a greatest hits of things that have been out of style for 20-25 years because we all learned our lesson and moved on, but the younger generations have rebelled themselves right back into repeating our mistakes as all generations do. Going to any sort of mall store these days, it’s a murderers row of the worst of the worst: Camp shirts, baggy boot cut jeans, cargo and carpenter pants, cropped everything, hole patterned button ups meant to be worn over a wifebeater, terrible clunky boots in the summer, tacky silver jewelry like they used to sell at mall kiosks. Even if I wanted to pick some stuff up, it will be completely unwearable for another 20 years in about 5 minutes.
I do think the women’s stuff looks a lot better on the whole though.
