Let us never forget the stronghold Anne Geddes had on all of our moms in the 90s.

I totally forgot about this!
aqua_vida@reddit
My mom? More like...me...😆
ThePrincessOfMonaco@reddit
HAHAHAHAHAHA I was just like, "YEAH our MOMS. Our moms sure did like that Anne, heh heh. Is this why I sat alone at lunch?"
aqua_vida@reddit
I would have sat with you and brought my Anne Geddes calendar and birthday card set for us to go through and pick out our favorites.
ThePrincessOfMonaco@reddit
I love it.

My mom tried to pull me into the cult but I don’t like babies 😂
aqua_vida@reddit
But how could you not like those babies?!😂
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
Meh. They’re just not my thing. Puppies on the other hand…
aqua_vida@reddit
SO many puppy posters in grade school. Anne Geddes was the natural middle school (or high school?🤔) transition for me...😂
chellybeanery@reddit
Right? My mom couldn't give two shits about this, but I, on the other hand, was obsessed with these woodland babies.
aqua_vida@reddit
Hahaha, oh man you remember the themes! 👏👏🔥
beautifulbroomstick@reddit
Me too! I thought they were so cute. My mom and all my friends thought they were creepy.
aqua_vida@reddit
Haha agreed! They were so adorable! Until...they weren't😆 The wrapping of the babes just started to get a little intense eventually...😅😂

Anne Geddes and Ansel Adams were EVERYWHERE
MihalysRevenge@reddit
Im from New Mexico Andel Adams is still everywhere lol
loptopandbingo@reddit
"Welcome to New Mexico, choose your free decor: moody Ansel Adams landscape, or moody Georgia O'Keefe vagina flower."
MihalysRevenge@reddit
Yep and also is pared with a kokopelli and a saguaro cactus (that doesn't grow here)
Eightinchnails@reddit
People hear “desert” and stick a saguaro on it. Las Vegas themed things often have one too. So weird.
MihalysRevenge@reddit
Yeah it's one of my pet peves
ObviousExit9@reddit
And MC Escher and those color dot paintings you stare at long enough to see an image.
Designer-Contract852@reddit
I wonder where anne Geddes is today?
achieve_my_goals@reddit
Was a bookseller then.
Those books sold like hotcakes and they weren't cheap.
But, why?
rapscallion_pizza@reddit
Yes, why?!? Who is going to sit down and look through it again?
Similar to you, at the time I worked part time at a card and gift shop, and we had her books, cards, box sets of cards, etc. They were so popular but I always found them rather creepy. I think we were split about 50/50 in the shop as to who liked them and who didn’t. Very polarizing.
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
Good question.

Meh, suburban middle class moms. The poors like me were creeped out when we'd visit y'all's houses and see these.
tobethesky@reddit
Thankfully, my mom was all about Mary Englebreit calendars and steered clear of Geddes.
abarthvader@reddit
"you don't flash around a newborn!!!"
TobylovesPam@reddit
We agree that Kevin is the dad though, right?
abarthvader@reddit
Absolutely, they used the same clinic!!!
psilosophist@reddit
Man, I thought my parents were corny but they were never this corny.
Intelligent_Flow2572@reddit
It seems like every new mom today has to have newborn baby photos like this. It’s exhausting.
shostakofiev@reddit
I'm sure it's very famous baby.

There are two kinds of people in the world. People who like this, and people who were into that guy who dressed up his weimaraners. (William Wegman)
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
I’m definitely in the dressed up Weimaraner camp. I still have some of the magnets.
Livid_Parsnip6190@reddit
I had the calendar and even a t-shirt back in the day
AngleFreeIT_com@reddit
Gross.
dailysunshineKO@reddit
Oh God. My mom found baby board books with these pictures in them for our kid a few years ago. Stories like Three Little Pumpkins. Of course, I had to read it a hundred times since our kid loved it.
Revolutionary-Good22@reddit
Elle: it's an Anne Getty!
Joey: I don't care what the baby's name is!
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
No … nooooo

These walked a very fine line between "awww!" and "uhhhhh wtf is this" lol
ellabfine@reddit
I had this book! I just loved her photos
existential_fauvism@reddit
There was a whole ass store at Downtown Disney in Anaheim
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
That is wild
Live_Barracuda1113@reddit
We had this book.
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
We all had this book lol
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
y'all had moms?
Metzger4Sheriff@reddit
My mom loves babies, but she HATED these. Ironically, I 100% think she would do a photoshoot like this with her dogs (aka the children she never had).
DetectiveMeowth@reddit
I wonder if she was the cinematographer for the Blind Melon video.
FringeHistorian3201@reddit
I always thought they were so creepy. Still feel that way.
jocundry@reddit
Arrg! I haven't thought of these weird little books in 30 years. They are so creepy.
Smurfblossom@reddit
I wonder how many kids grew up to recreate these as adults.
Taupenbeige@reddit
Like when my kid was tiny 2018-19 I’d observe the “outfit sets” you could get for your newborn+ to take instagram-ready pictures. The fox ears and tail were a popular one. Those books seemingly started an industry.
Cautious-String7076@reddit
My mother in law has this book, out prominently on a coffee table. My kids look at it and make jokes every time we visit.
azazel-13@reddit
I couldn't stand it and never understood it. It seemed so weird. I'm glad it died out.
forcedintothis-@reddit (OP)
I should have used the word stranglehold, not stronghold. I’m an idiot lol
