My cousin had a stereo in his car that had a seek function. You could push a button and it would automatically fast forward to the next song. To this day I don't know how that worked.
I believe during seek the header stays on the tape and “recognizes” silent gaps between songs. Also think that’s why when you seek it was a bit slower than fast forward. When I had mixtapes it didn’t work because the songs would roll together.
I had a tape player that would fast forward and play at the same time, if you pushed the fast forward button a certain way. This was not a designed feature of the tape player, it was just a weird thing I discovered

Who skips over Welcome to the Jungle?

It was side A, track one, low hanging fruit. They probably already listened to it 10 times.
mcaffrey81@reddit
Correct. Sweet Child O’Mine was on the b-side; second song after My Michelle
BoringExperience5345@reddit (OP)
I think Think About You was in between, no? Sweet Child was 3 on B?
mcaffrey81@reddit
You are correct

I mostly had mixtapes that I new exactly how long to fast forward and would be within like 5 seconds of my intended stop time.

The early walkmans that didn't have rewind were brutal. You'd have to flip the tape over and fast forward and hope for the best.
