Are baggy jeans back in style?

In the 90’s we used to wear baggy / loose fitting jeans. Not Junko style, just baggy. In the 2000 zero zeros I graduated to nicely fitted jeans. Had a spell with tight jeans after that and now back to fitted. “The kids these days” I’m noticing are all wearing baggy jeans. Is this just a frequency illusion or are they back in style?

My style has remained the same ever since Levis came out with 'Relaxed Fit' in the early 90s. I've watched many styles cone and go and repeat, and every once in a while, I'm back in style. I'm 47 and graduated HS in 1995 - just for reference.

Fashion has a 30 year cycle of "coming back into style," so we are definitely in the right decade for 90's fashion making its way onto the market. Prepare yourself for unironic grunge flannels, baggy jeans, and enormous button down shirts. NGL, I loved silver tab jeans. Remember those? "Unisex?" Stove pipe legs were my jam.

I saved my favorite boyfriend style baggy jeans from college. They are 100% the same as the ones in stores now.
That said, they look terrible on. I'm sticking to straight and skinny jeans.

Been back a while, . Don’t worry skinny jeans are a couple years away from a comeback.

Baggy jeans have been back in style for couple years now. I got a couple of loose fits in the past year, much appreciated of my teenage years.

My wide leg jeans are back and I am here for it.

Looser jeans are in style right now after a long period of skinny jean dominance.
I'm really short and have a hard time wearing them and my daughter is really skinny and also has a hard time wearing them. I end up looking really squat and wide and she ends up looking like she's a little kid dressing up in grownup clothes. I am liking straight-leg jeans a lot though, not crazy baggy but not skinny jeans that you have to talk into your boots. Just nice, middle ground jeans!

I'm a man with a plank for an ass. I too need slim fit jeans.

Yep

Yesterday I went to a university open day with my eldest kid in Australia and I agree they’re back. From regular straights to loose keppers , to full on JNCO style. Only skinny pants were on the lecturers
ilikebasicthings@reddit
They’ve been and I’m wearing them.
MotoMom77@reddit
My 17yo just walked in wearing baggy jeans with boxer shorts peeking out at the waist. And a crop top

Gap is doing a whole 90s loose fit jeans thing right now with the 2 minute dance commercial. They got me with the khakis back when they did the swing commercial and I fear they’re going to sell me on these as well.
BohemiaDrinker@reddit
Yes. Thank God!

I wear the baggiest pants I can get my hands on, still. Cargo pants are useful for me at my job, but I've had an extremely difficult time even finding them recently, except for the drawstring type which is useless to me as I need beltloops (cargo shorts are plentiful, though). As for jeans, Carpenter's pants are the tightest legs I wear. Unfortunately, given my small pants size, I never have an easy time finding any pants, and usually end up in the teenage department to find pants that fit me.

I like my “dad jeans” Levi’s 514/527 fits now. I sold/donated all of my JNCO/Kikwear many moons ago…and I won’t go back. Don’t make me wear all the dumbest things from the last 30 years again…

I saw a young woman today in very baggy jeans but they were also very short? Does no one remember the fear of “high water” pants in the 90s? I am still traumatized by the potential of showing up to middle school with pants that were too short.
dollarbillbar@reddit
I remember showing up in a pair of too short jeans in middle school and right before I began a presentation in front of the class, some girl was like yo where's the flood?! It was mortifying lol
monstereatspilot@reddit
They are, but you can take my skinny jeans from my cold, dead hands.
dontletyourcrownslip@reddit
I recently bought some looser jeans. I got tired of squeezing into my jeans and worrying if my butt looks good. Love my loose jeans and don't give a damn about my butt in them.
Unique_Display_Name@reddit
Nu metal (which I didn't like in the 90s, but anyone who likes it, enjoy the resurgence!) and dressing in neon seem to be back, as well.
Aromatic-Cancel6518@reddit
Yep. I work in fashion advertising and 90s styles are definitely trending. It's kinda funny seeing huge baggy cargos make a comeback lol
eat_like_snake@reddit
Yes, but now they're ~trendy vintage fashion~, so they're horribly overpriced.
Either way, I fucking hate tight jeans, so I'll be glad if this trickles down into more affordable dept store options. For adults too instead of just teens.
thedogran@reddit (OP)
I cringe more thinking about my tight jeans now than my baggy jeans. But I’m sticking with my fitted.
eat_like_snake@reddit
That's fair enough. I just value my comfort over the idea of the jeans looking good.
If I want look good, I'll wear a dress or a skirt, or dress pants. Jeans are for when I don't care.

JNCOs are back and have gone way upmarket. I'm personally thrilled to be old enough to not have to worry about trends, but apparently looser is back
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
Hell, I couldn't afford them back then, so I just bought ridiculously oversized regular-brand jeans. Waist ten inches too big, length six inches too long. Gave those poor woven belts a workout, to be sure.
StatementLazy1797@reddit
I work with a lot of teens and early 20’s, and yes, they are. Both the jnco style and just the looser fits.
Also, the other day I heard one girl telling another that she loved her mom jeans. Using “mom jeans” as a compliment, not an insult. Thought that was crazy.
jacksonmills@reddit
They are kinda back in style, I don’t know if we will see JNCO jeans come back with the force they had in the 90s, but baggy pants and cargo pants/shorts are back on the menu.
I saw some kids wearing “almost” JNCO jeans in Philly a day or two ago.
Doc Martens and Converse/Vans are also back (and Von Dutch)
