I'm aging, but more in ways that I feel than my kids need to "help" me. My hands have tinges of arthritis now and I have tendonitis in my elbows. I try to not complain about it because I don't want to give off that vibe to the kids, so really I'm still rocking and rolling with what I got as far as they know.
gmkrikey@reddit
Strength training entirely cured my elbow tendinitis. I suffered badly in both elbows from 2019 until I started serious 3x a week strength training in 2022. Three months into it my elbow pain was gone and I remain pain free.
thehoagieboy@reddit
Happen to have a YouTube or web link showing the workouts you did?
gmkrikey@reddit
I purchased resistance bars from Amazon https://a.co/d/hJP55bP and then searched YouTube how to use them. 3x per day helped.
Bob & Brad's youtube helped: https://youtu.be/NExFfXSe2Mc?si=5rBbESKlB6gWM3AN
The actual strength training was simple - push ups, bicep curls, tricep work. When my arms got stronger, the problem went away.

Cool thx
Historical_Bend_2629@reddit
I know. Younger people worried about their sixty year parent. Try having parents in their mid eighties you whipper-snapper!

Exactly!!
Necessary_Team_8769@reddit
Yes . . . Aging . . . better than the alternative.
AzureGriffon@reddit
Right now I am eagerly awaiting the latest game in my favorite video game franchise. One of the romanceable characters is in his early 50s. I've seen so many comments from people saying they're going to "break that old man's hips" like he's geriatric. I'm just dying laughing. You and I might not feel that old, but other people do see us that way, lol. At least they think the olds might be worthy of sexxing up, heh.
VacationBackground43@reddit
Oh, you’re on BG3 I see.
AzureGriffon@reddit
No, Dragon Age. But BG3 was absolutely great.
MaudeFindlay72-78@reddit
Wait. What NPCs are our age?
AzureGriffon@reddit
Emmerich is in his early 50s per the devs. He's the necromancer with a li'l skeleton buddy.
VacationBackground43@reddit
How about that. Multiple romanceable geezers.
AzureGriffon@reddit
These whipper snappers don't understand that most of the people making these kinds of games are probably 40 plus. I love it.
DailyAccountability@reddit
LOL, how old do you feel inside. It's all about context.
Admittedly, when my parents were my age now, they seemed like way up there. Now that I'm here, I can't figure out why I feel like I'm in the wrong age group.
MountainNovel714@reddit
From crib to casket.
So. Use it or lose it. 49 and had way to much fun w this body in the younger years in sports and athletic activities enduring injury after injury. My body’s been a perpetual state of healing. I feel it.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow!

We sure are aging! And we are still kicking ass while we do it. The oldest among us will be 60 next year. The old folks home is going to real interesting in 15-20 years
italicizedspace@reddit
I for one am proud to be aging. A lot of people don't get to.
Jairlyn@reddit
I seriously have to question my fellow GenXers that havent been spending time thinking about aging, mortality, and health. You guys all sound surprised to wake up and find you are getting old.
Hankjams@reddit
I will be 50 soon. I have only really thought about aging the last couple years and more so as I approach 50. I have medical issues yet still feel young in my mind so I the thought of turning 50 just feels strange. That along with being a woman and starting to lack hormones that help my skin not sag makes me think of aging more. I try not to dwell.
Possible-Good9400@reddit
Or like we think about things we actually enjoy or can change. Perspective is everything.
Jairlyn@reddit
Sweet just keep ignoring aging and health problems that’ll work!
cipherskunk@reddit
so far, so good
plainyoghurt1977@reddit
Not only that but the crumbling, federal old-person infrastructure that we're destined to face sooner than later (retirement or otherwise)
I actually set up a family trust with medical instructions several years ago after my dad passed from cancer...that hit home.
(And to raise our kids well...they choose our nursing home)
Agodunkmowm@reddit
I lost my Dad and by brother in a 5 week period last year. Facing not only my own mortality, but my loved ones as well is ever-present.

Me too. I'm only a couple years younger than you and I worry about this stuff a lot.

ThatCharmsChick@reddit
My 90-something grandmother said the same thing. Mentally, she never left her 20's.
intensive-porpoise@reddit
That was like 35 back then
ThatCharmsChick@reddit
True. She was married at a horrifically young age.

Yep, me too. Luckily for me, I look more like my mental image and less like the way I feel.

I’m 58 and husband 61. We’ve probably had 20ish friends or family members die in the last year. I’m aging GLADLY!
MaudeFindlay72-78@reddit
What the hell.
That's an extraordinary number of deaths. What's going on over there? (You don't have to respond if you don't want to.)
cipherskunk@reddit
They must have a lot of friends.
I don't even have 20 friends, so I don't know anyone who passed away this year. :/

I just scrolled past a post where someone was asking "what is this box" in the electrical reddit. Spoiler, it was a RJ11 connection, AKA a landline phone jack. Ya, we are aging.

Although it doesn’t seem like it sometimes, getting older is a privilege. I lost a BIL when he was like 22. It’s just not fair and life isnt

Aging? Ha! I'm not giving an inch. 53m and this was on Friday.
I also did 4 sets of 25 sit ups and 30 minutes on a cable weight machine that morning.

Heard an interesting thing on NPR today. Apparently, recent studies have shown that we don't really age in a linear fashion. Instead we have massive "aging spirts" right around age 44 and again at 60.
I'm ~halfway between and it sure feels true, at least anecdotally.
PleasantLibrarian434@reddit
Read about this and it traumatized me haha
rchase@reddit
I was also traumatized. but then I took some comfort in it. like, "OH! that's why my body started complaining so loud at age 47."
PleasantLibrarian434@reddit
Hold on, it’s not juts those two mayor ones succeeded by “normal” mini tiny bursts in between? Hahaha from 44 until 60 and theeeeen comes the boom? This is grand. You made my night.
figuring_ItOut12@reddit
Not gonna lie. I know my mind is changing at 61. But the changes tend towards a mild dysphasia.
I don't think it's a real problem just yet. But occasionally I hit a word, immediately know it I didn't hit it just right and rephrase that one word. Occasionally I flip to an adjacent word that is equally correct. But it only happens on deeper fact-base conversations: in other words my subconscious knows where I need to go, and when I word switch I'm often more precise.
In casual conversation this rarely happens unless I've just taken a bong hit but then that happened when I was eighteen in the same situation.
What this looks like ten years from now when I'm in my seventies I cannot say. But right now I think I'm just a little too watchful and overly judgmental on lifelong patterns that track my entire life. Aging possibly makes me overreact.
gmkrikey@reddit
I had a word substitution aphasia for decades. People look confused at me and I’ll ask “what word did I use instead of X?” and they’ll tell me. It’s just a thing. I might have had a slight stutter as a child so this is compensation.
My wife now says no one will be able to tell when dementia starts. That’s a good thing? 😂🤣
figuring_ItOut12@reddit
Lol! I was in the hospital some years back for a major health event that led to my current situation. A doctor asked me if I felt delusional and my response was, if I am how would I know. ;)
I wasn’t but it was nice of them to ask. I suppose mine was the right answer.
tsekistan@reddit
No. No way chyna.
But for the record I have kicked stairs with my big toe for decades (most often after ingesting idiot/moron/pre-binge levels of the mexican love-water)... I'll get to the point soon...
So, two nights ago after having consumed kamikazi margaritas with the neighbours up the alley (both well into their 80's) i decided to walk home barefoot. 1. Slipped walking up the stairs (possibly tearing a few ligaments) and, to better solidify my apparent lack of foot-u-lar abilities, 2. I kicked a wood step so hard that I broke my toe.
Recap. a. Kicked/stubbed my toe all of my life no breaks or damage b. With booze present, much more of the kicking/stubbing occurring and still not a lot of real damage c. A decade or more of no stubbing and less booze d. 55 yrs old e. Drinks with the grannies up the alleyway f. Slipped the steps and tore ligaments g. Kicked (gently may I say considering my lifetime of expertise) the stair and BROKE my toe in three places...
No. I'm not getting older. Ever.
But my toe flippen kills. And my bones are kinda iffy.
TheGreatPlumGorilla@reddit
I look at casts of old shows then see what they look like now & can’t believe they have aged so much. It’s really depressing.

I clearly recall being convinced my father was old and senile. So senile in fact he was dismissive about my concerns.
When he was a younger age than I currently am.
He also laughed when I called him middle aged at 40. However it turned out his middle age was in fact 28.
GenXrules69@reddit
Geez, I'm riding that double nickle with a 17 & 12 yo. I got no time to age! Plus just got through making some infused tequila and whiskey for Christmas gifts.

What? Oh heck no. I may be aging; old, even. But young people don't need advice on how to "handle" me thankyouverymuch.

WaitingitOut000@reddit
I saw that too! 55 is way too young to be an “aging parent.”
Impossible-Will-8414@reddit
It's not, actually. Sorry.
WaitingitOut000@reddit
Actually it is. People are there mainly to discuss their aging parents’ caregiving needs, dementia, assisted living etc. It’s mainly GenXers dealing with aging parents. I know because I’m over there dealing with my own.😄
Impossible-Will-8414@reddit
OK. But some people at 55 also have serious health issues and are parents as well, so their kids may also need support.

From the moment you’re born, you’re “aging” until you die.
Finding_Way_@reddit
In our '50s. Our zoomer kids definitely think that we are elderly.
Heard them tell the youngest sibling: "Mom and Dad are not middle aged. If they were middle-aged then people would live to 120. They are basically elderly and you have to help them out more."
fusionsofwonder@reddit
"I don't know how to act my age, I've never been this old before!"

If you haven’t gotten your shit together by now physically and financially, your kid has every reason to be concerned about their “aging” parent.
