How Do You Cope With Your Children In Hospital?

My son was in SCBU for 9 days after birth as his lungs didn’t develop properly. And then in and out of hospital for various reasons during his first year.

As someone else said; you just do. You have no choice.

My kid is now 15, taller than me and disgustingly healthy!

Not gonna lie, it's utterly wank but you just cope with it as best you can because you have to and there isn't really an alternative

You just do. There's no trick, you just do. Spent months in hospital now, mostly ICU, had the "Get here now." Phone calls, to get rhere and find theyre in emergench surgery, the 4 hour surgeries turned to 12, etc etc

You just do. There's no alternate choice.

Hospital type noises (beeps etc) upset for a while after the first stint though

Had my daughter admitted on her 2nd birthday. You give them lots of cuddles, lots of assurance. You lose your phone when they're awake and pick it back up when they're not. You struggle to entertain them given they are bed bound. You sleep badly on a camp bed next to their side. You go overboard on text communication with the other parent. You hope for the best. In our case I was confident she'd be fine as it was just a particularly vicious non infectious (aerial at least) virus and she just needed meds to keep her fever down and a drip to keep her sufficiently hydrated. So it proved.
