Exercise and energy

OK, so they say that if you want to improve your energy, you should exercise. OK fine, so I started walking and swimming regularly since the beginning of the year, been losing weight….and I’m still tired (recent checkup showed nothing out of order, BTW). So…what’s your experience with this? If you went from sedentary to exercising, did your energy levels improve? Or am I just making my self so tired by exercising that I wound up spending my energy?
