Worth fixing catalytic converter 2013 Toyota Corolla?

My check engine and trac off light have been going on and off for probably a year now, I have a special needs kid so yes maybe I seem irresponsible not having taken care of it but I just haven’t had the time or allowance, checked through an auto parts store and took it for a diagnostic through a local reputable mechanic shop that it’s the catalytic converter, I run through fuel much quicker and it doesn’t accelerate as smooth or quick as before, mechanic told me if I didn’t plan on keeping the car for more than 3 years it probably wouldn’t be something worth investing in as it would cost me nearly $3k to replace. Thing is I purchased this vehicle through carmax when I had a very low credit because I was going to school and working full time and my parents car crapped out on me and I needed something asap that being said I still owe like 10k on it 🥲 yes I know it’s fairly depreciated and not worth that but as I said I have other pressing matters in my life at the moment and again as a sole provider to a special needs kid I can’t even think to purchase something else because I’ll surely be underwater and obviously would like to get it fixed just for reliability. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

My 2006 Lexus RX and my parents bought new just passed 205,000 miles, and the catalytic converter has been throwing codes for the past few months. I ran the gas tank to near empty and filled in two bottles of CATCLEAN and drove it for one hr and the codes went away. Give it a try.

They want $2K for my 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee’ catalytics. I only paid $7k for the thing 3 years ago. So, I use a bit more gas and the engine light is on. 🤷♂️ If it starts running rough I may think about it. But this thing runs like a clock and owes me nothing.

Unless you are in California get an aftermarket cat for like $200 and have a basic muffler shop do the work. Even $3k for a factory cat sounds like highway robbery. The part is like $1200, I don’t see where $3k comes from
