Help: Advice for new printer

Hi, My 83 year old father just had to wipe his computer (Lenovo IdeaCentre tower with an HP screen). The computer guy that helped him do that and reinstall everything (upgrading to Windows 11) said that his "printer driver is no longer supported by HP" so he has to buy a new one. He had an Epson Deskjet 4140 which was probably over 10 years old. He liked it specifically because it perfectly fit on a top shelf of his small corner desk. I want to buy him a replacement. My parents print very rarely -- a recipe, an obituary, a coupon, etc. Black and white is probably fine. I need something about the same size that I know will continue to be supported by this computer. Can you please offer suggestions?

most are ink jet today.
i prefer the type where i put a new cartridge in and replace the nozzles this generally means HP
i had an epson but i print so infrequently the heads dried up and clogged up and i would have to force countless cleaning cycles

meaning i woukd be far better off with a real toanar cartridge type laser printer but they are hard to find

Thanks. In another thread, someone said his old printer should still be compatible...so now I'm more lost.

Nah. Repair guy is a family friend that spent a few hours trying to figure it out and refused to accept any money. But otherwise, I would agree.

Brother laser printer and nothing else.
They just print. No crappy drivers or subscription issues. Cheap cartridges. Doesn't dry out like ink jet. Just turn it on and print. Every time.

That's what I have myself. Had it 15 years and still love it. But it's way bigger. Do they make smaller ones? Footprint must not exceed 10inĂ—20in with height under 10in too. Ugh.

This is more appropriate for the techsupport forum but it seems that you cross posted this enough to get your answers.

Thanks. I didn't post there but I will. Should I delete this post? I don't want to annoy anyone; I wasn't sure where to ask this question.
