Wow, that's so weird. I thought this was a weird quirk that I thought of this movie scene when I thought of changing lanes at an intersection. Yet here you are...

What is it about a sentence fragment that can get stuck in our collective heads. It was a small part of a long tirade. Sheesh, this guy's impact on culture can't be overstated.

For those of us of a certain age, we basically just speak in Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler references exclusively, and I'm not sorry about it. My husband tells our kids "You're scared of the Claw" all the time. God, Cary Elwes was the perfect handsome dweeb in this movie. He played the part perfectly.

I think they mean they learned of the law from this movie, likely before they could even drive. Memorable scene so it is linked to that law in their mind.

The law actually includes X amount of feet before an intersection. And for good reason, since right turns on a red light are legal unless otherwise stated. Once the driver turning right has identified you're not coming into the intersection in that lane they will be focused on making the turn and obviously won't see you switch lanes.

The dotted white lines become solid closer to an intersection, if anyone notices. Solid = no lane change.

My brother getting hit by a semi truck on his motorcycle is the reason I never change lanes when crossing an intersection.

My brother was stopped and turning left, there was a large pick up behind him stopped and turning right. The semi truck driver didn't see my brother through the pick up and pulled out in the left hand lane to pass and crushed my brother's leg as he was turning.
