Can someone recommend a trilogy of films to watch on the plane?

Going on a 14 hour flight (2×7) and want something I can get into to to make it less boring. I'm thinking Oceans 11 for a starter. Gimme some more.

Godfather films!
Draught-Punk@reddit
The cornetto trilogy:
Shaun of the Dead
Hot Fuzz
The Worlds End
Weedlefruit@reddit
The law of diminishing returns applies heavily here. SoTD is a masterpiece, Hot Fuzz is good but wildly overrated and TWE is just plain awful in my opinion.
ottoandinga88@reddit
Honestly Scott Pilgrim is a much better third entry in the trilogy. It's far better than TWE and it retains more of the editing style and flair of the first two, probably because it was actually the film Edgar Wright made right after Hot Fuzz
Interrogatingthecat@reddit
I bloody love the world's end
Zealousideal-Habit82@reddit
I'm 20 minutes into it now and I'm already thinking it's a massive turd trading on some previous good will. Think I'll quit.
Downtown-Ad-8516@reddit
Has to be Lord of the rings surely?
SplinterBum@reddit
I have fond memories of the LOTR trilogy. Haven’t watched them since they were released. We recently watched them all along with the Hobbit trilogy and I must say both my wife and I much preferred the Hobbit ones!
petrolstationpicnic@reddit
I like to say all opinions are valid, that one isn’t though.
JamJarre@reddit
This is objectively insane, like preferring cold pizza over hot
GoodTato@reddit
But then what to you do with the spare two hours?
CardinalCopiaIV@reddit
Start the hobbit films 😂
Low_Dragonfruit8219@reddit
And then Rings of Power (only if OP is really desperate tho)
WRM710@reddit
Rewind and watch the ride of the Rohirrim again

Extended edition
Gone_For_Lunch@reddit
There is no “Extended Editions”.
There is the regular and abridged versions.
scs3jb@reddit
Literally says extended edition on the box, don't be a buzz kill: https://hmv.com/store/film-tv/blu-ray/the-lord-of-the-rings-trilogy-extended-editions-(h?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8--2BhCHARIsAF_w1gxTrrBkF-rler-MTOsLrxmyNAL8QPvARq3JqQFWenkQYMvrVmJatLIaAo4KEALw_wcB

And helpfully, whenever Gandalf shouts “Run!” you have time to go to the loo. (I think it was Anthony Lane in the New Yorker who pointed this out)
Ok-Customer-5770@reddit
Even more so if the flight is to NZ.
KenLexx@reddit
Indeed. The only choice.
Flat-Painter4019@reddit
This.
Downtown-Ad-8516@reddit
This is the way
AceOfGargoyes17@reddit
Yup. Extended edition. It’s the only real choice.
SatNavSteve18@reddit
Extended editions, this is the only real answer for a flight that long
atomic_mermaid@reddit
It'd be Blade for me.
Dr-Maturin@reddit
Dirty Harry, Magnum Force and The Enforcer. If there is still time the other two are ok but not as good
Scared-Room-9962@reddit
Terminator but just watch the first two then spend the rest of the flight thinking about how amazing they are.
jverbal@reddit
There's more than 2 Terminator films? Surely they stopped at the absolute cinematic masterpiece that is T2 and called it a day, right? RIGHT??
Willr2645@reddit
Just like they did with home alone, right?
jverbal@reddit
Exactly!
Shitelark@reddit
Terminator 2 was followed by Terminator 3, Terminator 4, Terminator 3: the TV show, Terminator 0, Terminator 3, and now Terminator Zero: the animated TV show. Is that clear?
fonster_mox@reddit
The other day on in a comment someone said T1 and T2 were their least favourite in the franchise. I had to put my phone down and think about that for a while.
jverbal@reddit
I don't even know how to respond to that
Jolly_Jack_@reddit
T2 is so corny and overrated.
Scared-Room-9962@reddit
Is a bit corny in places and it's not as good as the OG but it's still one of the best action films ever.
GuyOnTheInterweb@reddit
Either that or challenge your reason of existence..

Disco_Doctor@reddit
Underrated by who? If I ever met someone who didn’t like the Bourne films I’d stab them with a book and hit them over the head with fax machine, before jumping through the Juliet balcony of a 1st floor apartment in the Gothic quarter of a European capital city and making off in a 900cc car
KenLexx@reddit
Niiice!
Pepys-a-Doodlebugs@reddit
I saw the third one too soon after watching Dead Man's Shoes and just didn't find Paddy Considine believable as his performance in DMS was burnt into my psyche.
scs3jb@reddit
I can't watch these back to back. Too similar. in fact I had trouble getting through the first one again with my wife.

Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy
AbramKedge@reddit
I loved the bit where Bane says "Mummphle gruffle flay brooth Wayne?" in the original theater release. Such a shame Nolan caved and let them redub Bane's parts.
makemycockcry@reddit
Stuff films, series is the way, Slow Horses is really good.
Uncle_Beanpole@reddit
Back to the future for some (somewhat) seriousness and then cornetto trilogy for something funny so you’ll arrive happy at your destination. Safe travels!
Scarboroughwarning@reddit
Watch Brasseye, Big Train, Blackadder...
SplinterBum@reddit
The Equalizer trilogy is fun. Not a top tier trilogy but very enjoyable.
InfectedByEli@reddit
There's a third one? I missed that. Now I know what I'm watching tomorrow ... er ... later today.
Own_Secretary_6037@reddit
The Infernal Affairs trilogy

Don’t watch The Shawshank Redemption. I was sobbing so loudly a flight attendant came to see if I was OK.
Lord of the Rings for a long flight. I spent a flight to Antigua merrily watching those. I know them well enough so announcements cutting into them don’t annoy me, but they’re good enough that I don’t get bored of them.

Currently watching Oceans 11 as a continuation of “easy, fun” films. In that series so far is Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy Returns. Will probably follow on with the original Mummy, possibly some of the Cornetto trilogy.
Honest-Lunch870@reddit
Das Boot, The Original Uncut Version in 6 parts NOT the remake! That'd be a brilliant watch on a plane.
minisrugbycoach@reddit
Unbreakable, split and Glass.
I love these films. James McAvoy is incredible in the last two.

Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters Afterlife, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire
Gremlins 1 and 2, Small Soldiers
The Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun, Fuzz, World's, episode or two of spaced if you want something during take off/meal when disrupted)
Alien, Aliens, Alien 3
Dune 1+2
LOTR
Harry Potter (not that prequel stuff, ufff)
Terminators
Back to the Future 1-3
The Hobbits

Riddick films. Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, and Riddick. Extended editions where possible as they’re just better.
Not the greatest ever, but Vin Diesel at his (imo) most badass.
BetterCallTom@reddit
John Wick will give you 4 that are very doable in that time.

Watch American History X then watch it again but in reverse. See which version you preferred and work out if you're racist or not.

Planet of the Apes
MahatmaAndhi@reddit
I'm annoyed this is so far down. The first three (of the new films) are bloody brilliant. The fourth is... Fine.
ProperChopperGAF@reddit
I thought the fourth was great too. Excited for what's next.
MahatmaAndhi@reddit
I think I just hold the Caesar trilogy in such high esteem.
ProperChopperGAF@reddit
Absolutely fair.
lawnmower303@reddit
The first two Dune movies, if you haven't seen them. If you are into sci-fi perhaps. The second film is a visual masterpiece.
cmdrxander@reddit
Visual masterpiece indeed but a bit of a shame to watch it on a crappy screen
lawnmower303@reddit
Good point. I'd just watched it at home on my big TV so I was a bit wowed by it
cmdrxander@reddit
I watched it with some quality headphones and it was incredible, plus I could crank it up and not annoy the neighbours
lawnmower303@reddit
It's a deep world to get into. I read the main 3 books when I was a teenager and had all but forgotten about them. I've enjoyed the films a lot and they've given me a huge amount of pleasure to get back into. I'm almost 50 and will probably read them all again now. Great stuff.
cmdrxander@reddit
I’ve never read them but it seems like it’s right up my street. Is it pretty heavy sci-fi?
lawnmower303@reddit
Sci-fi, but politics etc as well. You can draw parallels with the Nazis and allies etc. a bit like The Magician set of books by Raymond Frist. The first trilogy there is like medieval England and the second trilogy is like feudal Japan.
cmdrxander@reddit
I’ve never heard of Magician, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it
lawnmower303@reddit
This is fantasy, rather than sci-fi

I'm old-ish and really into history. Sorry this isn't a trilogy, but on a flight back from the US, I watched Cleopatra. (4 hour) Elizabeth Taylor is very mmm watchable.

Personally I would binge a really good series like Slow Horses. Generally have more depth than most films, and easier to take a break if you need to.

What about trying the original Zatoichi films. He's a famous fictional Japanese blind swordsman.
I read about and downloaded the first film from 1962 once after watching the 2003 remake. I ended up binge watching a fair few of them. They would be perfect films for a few flight I think.
