Pro tips - 1) buy baby wipes 2) use desitin or zinc oxide on your butthole to prevent painful butt burn 3) should be an electrolyte drink you mix with the Miralax. Pedialyte, Gatorade, Propel. 4) you donāt have to drink the Miralax as fast as they tell you to as long as you get it all down and donāt barf. 5) if youāre a barfy person, tell the doc and they will write you for zofran. 6) saturate a tissue with isopropyl alcohol and smell it for nearly instant relief of nausea.
You want your poop to look kinda like chicken broth before you go to the endoscopy center.
Plan a treat meal for yourself for getting this done!!
XOXO, your friendly endoscopy nurse.
Villanellesnexthit@reddit
Adding to this - make sure you donāt use a drink you really like for the prep, cause youāll never want to drink it again.
Also to add, Diet Poweraid makes the taste of this powder pretty much disappear. I find juice to sugary.
CautiontapeBetty@reddit
Clearlake has no discernibleĀ flavour!Ā Ā
jitterbugperfume99@reddit
You know, I have to do the low-res diet starting tomorrow and was planning on consuming a lot of chicken broth this week so that description just ruined my life š
marticcrn@reddit
If you want to make the cleanse day easier, take a capful or Miralax in your coffee every morning this week. Youāll be halfway there.
jitterbugperfume99@reddit
Thanks! This is my 10th colonoscopy and that is definitely a good tip. The first one I made the mistake of having a big heavy meal as my ālast supperā and that was a huge mistake. Back then the doctor didnāt do the low-res and I had to use that gallon drink. Absolutely nightmarish! So glad my newest doctor is a Miralax guy!
amilliowhitewolf@reddit
Im on my 8th. Tips hat outta respect. I had the gallon one for the first 6. Then barfed it all up and was told a "cheat method"?! Why is their a cheat method on this? Miralex had better be at 50 or Im cheating.
jitterbugperfume99@reddit
What was the cheat method? God I canāt imagine doing the gallon six times. It definitely ends up coming out both ends š¤¢
amilliowhitewolf@reddit
3 magnesium citrates and like 4 duxolax to start and then two more ducolax and two more ducolax on the hour.
I was volcanic and erupted the orange flavor. I still cringe at the orange drink at mcdonalds now. NTY
jitterbugperfume99@reddit
Oh wow that sounds intense but still better than that gallon. I think the best one I did was Clenpiq, two shooters of like 4 oz and then a ton of water after a low-res diet. New doc has me doing two dulcolax and a bottle of Miralax mixed into Gatorade, after five days of low-res. Itās wild how much it varies ā even the low-res if you google it, thereās like some that allow things that others do not allow.
amilliowhitewolf@reddit
Im just glad it is getting less to drink. I had two jugs just looking at me. Yuck.
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
Thank you for the nausea tips! Iām having Da Vinci laparoscopic hysterectomy this week, my oncologist wants me to do Miralax/ dulcolax Gatorade prep. Iām in fear of throwing it up. Definitely trying the alcohol thing.
Necessary_Team_8769@reddit
I had a Da Vinci hysterectomy. They didnāt have me do any bowel prep, except not eating/drinking after midnight.
That was a fabulous surgery. Day 1 rough (after the drugs wore off), Day two painful, Day 3 amazing. All good from there!!
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
Iām also having some biopsies, lymph node dissection, etc. thatās why I think Iām doing the prep. I didnāt expect.
Kodiak01@reddit
Wife just had a hysterectomy due to endometriosis and adenomyosis. Her left ovary was literally flipped backwards and completely adhered to the uterine wall.
Adding to all this, one week prior she broke her 5th left metatarsal bone in a kickboxing class. The additive hell meant she couldn't walk around after surgery to purge the gas from her abdomen. Days of hell.
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
Ugh, that sucks! for my other surgeries Gas X helped but walking really did move it along.
knt1229@reddit
Miralax doesn't have a taste or smell. Dulcolax are very small tablets. Gatorade tends to be sweet. So, I don't see any reason why you would throw up taking any of those things. You might get nauseous or have an upset stomach before you poop after taking a laxative but after you poop the upset stomach goes away.
marticcrn@reddit
Itās the amount of liquid you have to drink in a relatively short period of time.
But what do I know? Only been a nurse 30 years.
knt1229@reddit
Yea the amount of liquid can be a problem for some. If you are a nurse I am sure you know what you are talking about. What I can't figure out is why come at me with attitude? Surely, with your professional experience, you know everyone reacts differently to these types of things.
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
It is daunting, the amount of liquid. Whatās funny is when I 1st read my surgeons instructions, I was like āwhat?!?! I have to drink it all at once!?!ā lol
marticcrn@reddit
I meant it lightly. There was a sparkle in my eye.
Villanellesnexthit@reddit
In great quantities, I find it does have a bit of a taste.
bexy11@reddit
Yup - even in smaller quantities it has a sort of chemical taste to me.
bexy11@reddit
It caused me to throw it all up and I can give you the reasons if youād like. There are probably a lot of different reasons.
lu5ty@reddit
Definitely spoken by someone who has never done the prep lol
knt1229@reddit
Yes, I have done the prep.
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
Thanks for responding. Good to know. Iām also kinda freaking out. But thatās just me! lol
Beginning_Tomorrow60@reddit
Itās really not that bad! Just make sure you pick a Gatorade flavor you like and donāt get any kind of flavored Miralax
jaystinjay@reddit
Avoid the baby wipes and get a bidet wand. Youāll never be happier and far less damage to your hole and the pipes in the house. Go full soup diet for a week prior.
MissSuzysRevenge@reddit
Already use a bidet! Iāve been eating a boring low residue diet in preparation. I didnāt realize how much fiber, veggies, nuts and seeds I eat.
SwimmingNo7480@reddit
I have a colonoscopy every 5 years and would end up nauseated the morning of the procedure from being dehydrated using the same prep process you described. However, the last time I did the prep I also sipped on some ice water between taking the miralax mixtures and I felt so much better that evening and the next morning. Stir up the Miralax early the day you have to take it and put it in the fridge. I also go ahead and pour the first glass and put that in the fridge too so even the cup is cold. Using a straw seems to help me avoid the potential after taste and consume the ābeverageā faster. Hope your hysterectomy goes well and that you have a good recovery.
WoodpeckerFar9804@reddit
I had to do a full prep too before mine.
marticcrn@reddit
Donāt forget the desitin. When you colon cleanse, transit is so fast that stomach acids and bile comes out - and they burn your butthole. No one needs that. Apply early and often.
Son0faButch@reddit
They told me I needed to stick to clear liquids another 24 hours after mine. I wasn't going to a fried chicken buffet, but I planed on a big milkshake on the way home and they said no. I had some polyps they removed so I think that was a least part of the reason I had to take it easy
bexy11@reddit
I had a milkshake on the way home from mine and it was a wonderful decision. No polyps though in my case.
White_Buffalos@reddit
Mine looked like Moutain Dew. My nurse was very amused at tge description.
Also, I installed bidets in our house long ago and that made it a lot cleaner/easier.
cenosillicaphobiac@reddit
Bidet is the only way. Both of our bathrooms have them. We got them about 6 months before my procedure.
Ralph--Hinkley@reddit
So like after a day of a beer diet?
Honda_TypeR@reddit
The alcohol smell to ward off nausea definitely works. A nurse showed me that at the hospital years ago. I now try to share it with anyone who suffers from bout a nausea.
seliz16640@reddit
As a UC patient Iāll also add - chew up and spit out the clear gummy bears in between rounds. Something about being able to chew has helped me a lot, in addition to sucking on sugar free clear/green (no red or orange!) Jolly Ranchers
JustaJarhead@reddit
Forget the baby wipes and get a bidet. Best thing I ever bought was a bidet toilet seat

That drink before my CT Scan instantly made me nauseous and the radiologist had me sniff a alcohol wipe and the feeling went away. I was pretty amazed tbh.

MutedSongbird@reddit

Two out of the three times I've had the procedure, that was the case. The one time, I was ill going into it and I actually didn't wake up for like an hour afterward. Apparently I kept telling them I was tired and to leave me alone!
The last time though was wonderful (as far as procedures go) and I only took 5 minutes to wake up. I used the pills for prep, and I won't go back to another method at this point, if my DR won't give them to me, I would find a different one.

bexy11@reddit
I feel like they didnāt give me enough of something. I think my doctor does use just enough to put you in what they call a ātwilight,ā where usually you sleep but I guess not everyone falls 100% asleep.
All I know is that I was asleep but woke up quickly and didnāt feel very rested. It was fine but I was hoping for something like what I got a million years ago when I had my impacted wisdom teeth removed, where I woke up from a lovely dream and felt like Iād just gotten 8 hours of sleep.

Apparently, they donāt always use that.
My friend just had his scopies. He was told they used fentanyl, and naloxone on him. It blew my mind to find out that fentanyl is a regular companion to or replacement for propofol in anesthesia.
marticcrn@reddit
Naw. Itās synthetic morphine. Been around forever. They use fentanyl and versed. Versed is in the same class as Xanax.
four_oclock_flower@reddit
I just had a colonoscopy last month, and they used propofol only. They were real big on their choice of a drug that doesn't have narcotic classification.
hey-girl-hey@reddit

Literally just had a colonoscopy last week. Honestly, the worst part for me was the not eating for 24 hours. The prep is lame but not all that bad. I didnāt have any ass burn but I have a Tushy Bidet attachment. If you donāt have that for sure use wet wipes because you will be peeing out of your butt 5 times an hour for a few hours. The procedure for me only took 5 mins but I was completely unconscious. Good luck!

Mine is coming up this year. Consider it a few days of misery that is finished with a nice nap.
Another thing to think about is that even though liquid hell sucks, chemo and radiation are far worse.
At least with the colonoscopy you don't lose your hair and its over in a few hours.
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
They have pills they can prescribe which make that part a little easier. You should ask for them!
meat_beast1349@reddit
Makes no sense but UdoU
ratbastid@reddit
I did it last week.
At my mom's advice I asked for "the pills instead of the juice". It's called SuTab and you take a dozen of them (literally) the evening before and another dozen the morning of.
It's better than drinking a literal gallon of anything. The first round I had a ton of cramping and bloating before things um got moving, and it was really intense. Second round in the morning much easier (a lot less to move, I guess).
Mammoth_Ad78@reddit
Itās true that the prep is worse than the colonoscopy. Make sure you choose sedation and get an Ativan before they start though. Because who doesnāt like drugs. Might as well make the most of it.

KitchenWitch021@reddit
Yeah..I bought the lemon/lime Gatorade like a dumbass. I had the prescription gallon type. Dump in my yellow Gatorade and proceed to nearly vomit several times, it was gross. It thickened up a little bit and ughhhh.
Next one in 2028 and hopefully thereās a better cleanse by then.
MaryBitchards@reddit
I heard from a very wealthy woman that there's a way that's just a bunch of pills now and way simpler. I assume this is Rich People Medicine but maybe it'll reach the rest of us.
UnicornFarts1111@reddit
It is $60.00. I just used it in June and it is hands down the BEST prep method I've used (it was my 3rd scope). I'm not wealthy, I just have IBD.
MaryBitchards@reddit
Ooh, good to know. She made it sound like it's way simpler and easier.
mstrsskttn@reddit

amilliowhitewolf@reddit
Ditto. Nada to do w rich. Who you know- maybe.
_mercybeat_@reddit
My doctor only uses ClenPic. Itās two little 5oz bottles that I actually liked the taste of, and an 8oz cup for water. You drink one 5oz bottle (I drank it cold and it was pretty good) then drink 5 8oz cups of liquid over the next 5 hours. I drank blue Gatorade and broth, with some water. Thatās a lot less than having to drink a gallon of something. Then later you drink another bottle and 4 cups of other liquid. I have a lot of trouble with constipation, and this stuff works gangbusters. Stay near the toilet! The said my prep was excellent. I also have had bum guns installed on all our toilets for 15 years or so, theyāre just regular cold water, but it feels awesome in this case. And I used Balmex before and after each time I went, Balmex says it neutralizes acids, so that made sense. I figured I was going to be raw and in pain for a few days, but with the booty sprayer and Balmex I had no issues at all. I couldnāt believe it.
I was absolutely terrified, mostly of the prep. I had both endoscopy and colonoscopy. It turns out it wasnāt a bad experience. Iām not scared of those procedures any more, and now I know Iām okay. I kind of look forward to the next time, so Iāll have an excuse to eat lemon Italian ices all day for a couple of days.
bexy11@reddit
There are pills now. I used them last year because when I attempted prep the more common way, I threw it all up.

For the ādrinking the prepā partāmake the liquid nice and cold and use a straw. Both my husband and I can recommend that. And swap in a salty/savory clear liquid, like broth, part of the way through. (I did takeout wonton soup with the solids strained out.)
Dangerous_Contact737@reddit
Get some beef and chicken broth too, for when youāre tired of āsweetā and want something savory.
Phronima-Fothergill@reddit
I picked up some wonton soup and strained out the solid bits. It tasted amazing after all the juice!

I have to do this and Iām so anxious. Iām poop averse. I mean, probably none of us like poop, but I really, really donāt like it. Really. Iām dreading having to do this. I know logically I wouldnāt rather actually die than do this, as colon cancer is very serious, but practically my avoidance is almost at āwell, we all have to go sometime ā level

The recommended age for a screening colonscopy is now 45.
The youngest of Gen X should be doing this - 1979.

Rufous_Hariasa@reddit
Thank you for pointing out the change in recommended screening age; 48 and I have my first one next week. Most of my similarly aged cohorts arenāt aware they lowered the initial age. My 47 year friend passed away from colon cancer last year.

KitchenWitch021@reddit
My father was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 63, immediately after retirement. Positive again about 5 years later.
I was 48 and inquired to my PCP about setting up a colonoscopy just to be safe, with a first degree relative being diagnosed.
Nope. He refused saying I wasnāt 50 yet, and only if I was having changes in bowel habits. Yeah, by then it may to late. Insurance company agreed with him and wouldnāt pay even if he scheduled one. Thatās some bullshit. I went at 50 and all good. Iām supposed to go every 7 years.

UnicornFarts1111@reddit
You can use other clear liquids, it doesn't have to be juice.
They also have pills now they can prescribe. It was the best $60.00 I've ever spent. I was able to take them with plain water! Also, it still required a lot of fluids, but not as much as traditional prep methods do.

bulanaboo@reddit
Iām from flaā¦ we decided to move to Texas a few years ago ( kinda slow, much different than south fla, but was nice, I made good money and things were cheap) only stayed about a yearā¦. TXRedheadOverlord@reddit
Huh? I'm rural Texas with a septic system. We flush toilet paper. I've lived here all my life and have been all over the state. Everyone flushes toilet paper. Plus, most Texans are on city water, so flushing toilet paper isn't even a consideration.
bulanaboo@reddit
Idk maybe just hill county?? I was like WTF
bexy11@reddit
Maybe just in houses/buildings with old plumbing systems??
When I moved into my current house, my septic system got blocked and overflowed into my basement. Apparently the pipes or whatever are crappy (this place was built in 1968; previous house was built in 1925 and never had this issue) so the plumber recommended I use single ply toilet paper only. And I do and the system is fine now.
TXRedheadOverlord@reddit
No, it's not true in Hill County, either. People flush their toilet paper. Some old-school septic people recommend you don't, but virtually everyone ignores them and most septic companies say it's fine.
ApplianceHealer@reddit
Maybe they were from Greeceāthatās the standard practice there. Ancient sewers there can only handle waste; covered cans next to every toilet for the paper.

Crown_and_Seven@reddit
Suggestion: Starting today to tomorrow, do a low residue or low fiber diet as the "prep before prep". Basically avoid fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts and seeds, whole grains and red meat. Eat soft foods like scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, canned fruits and veggies, minimal meat. You won't be hungry, but that will produce less solid waste in your body to begin with, which means less coming out of you once you start the liquid prep. I did this before having my first colonoscopy in June and it was easy peasy.
lilspark112@reddit
I was instructed to do this for five days prior to prep.
Crown_and_Seven@reddit
Sounds unnecessarily long, but that would definitely get the job done and wouldn't really be too hard. I found plenty to eat on the low residue diet and didn't feel like I was suffering at all. Even lost a couple of pounds and was less bloated. In fact, I think I'm going to go low residue for a few days prior to vacations and other times when I want to drop a few pounds and look leaner. Preferred compared to going without food.
hero_pup@reddit
People can have different degrees of bowel motility, so five days is to make sure that the GI tract is as low-residue as possible for the vast majority of people. The average person won't need that long, but there's that small minority who would.
You ever see those posts where people track their bowel movements for a year? Inevitably, someone will react with a comment saying "wait, you're pooping three times a day, every day? I'm pooping maybe only once a day. Is that abnormal?" And then someone will be like, "wait, you're pooping once a day? I'm only going twice a week!" That's the kind of variation in bowel motility we're talking about here.
So if you're someone who clears their meals in under 18 hours, a five day low-residue pre-prep won't be necessary. Your breakfast this morning probably already left your body the same evening and your colon's like DHL Express same-day delivery. Meanwhile, if you have chronic constipation, your colon be like USPS First Class and it could take several days for it to pass. Sounds gross but that's just how some people are.
Sure, the prep itself will flush everything out anyway, but you get more reliable results and a smoother experience if the low-residue pre-prep stage is done. The reason for the large volume of colon blow solution is really so you can flush those stragglers of non-soluble fiber that are still clinging to the plumbing, caught in the mucosal folds. Less fiber in there to begin with, the faster you get clean.
bexy11@reddit
This.
mindfluxx@reddit
I did this for 3 days prior to mine and the actual cleansing out only pedialyte was no big deal. For sure worth trying.

Get the pills for the prep the next time. It was a game changer for me. It is slightly less liquid and you can use water or any clear liquid of your choice for taking your pills. It is still drinking a lot of fluid, but it is slightly less.
boringcranberry@reddit
The first time I had to get a colonoscopy was on January 6th 2021.

SoMuchForSubtlety@reddit
URGENT: get yourself a bidet IMMEDIATELY! The wand types are available at any hardware store and can be attached in minutes. If you're desperate, get a 2L soda bottle and make a small hole in the neck. Spray thoroughly after each bout of diarrhea and PAT try with toilet paper - do NOT wipe!Ā
Your poor, abused butthole will thank you after not being abraded 200 times in the next 24 hours. And just know that the prep is worse than the procedure itself.Ā
MissBoofsAlot@reddit
When I had to do mine earlier this year I was so thankful I have had a bidet installed for the last decade. Nice heated water, heated seat, headted blow dry. It saved my poor balloon knot. When I bought my first bidet my wife was giving me a hard time "we don't need something like that". I was working @ Google at the time and every stall had one installed and I got so used to using it I needed one for the house. After I installed it and she used it for the first time she changed her mind. Now my kids will only use my bathroom because they don't like the cold seat in their bathroom.
suspiria_138@reddit
What brand do you use?
MissBoofsAlot@reddit
I have had CoCo, biobidet, I would have to look what my current one is. They are around $300 on Amazon. You need to be able to plug it into an electrical outlet. Imthe ones I use have a water filter and an endless hot water heater built in so you can wash your ass/front with clean filtered hot water. They are also great for that time of the month to wash everything off. I tent to give myself a quick rince everytime I use the bathroom for that fresh out of the shower feel.
suspiria_138@reddit
Thank you so much! Do you ever get urinary issues or bacterial growth? (If you are female)
MissBoofsAlot@reddit
None so far. I am MTF Transgender so it's a little different for me but My wife has not had any issues. It has a self cleaning function so before it starts to spray is washes itself then the wand extends and washes your areas, then it retracts and washes itself again. There is also a way to make it extend without spraying so you can clean the spray wand yourself. So when we clean the bathroom we scrub the wand down when doing the toilet. We have been using this style bidet for over a decade with no issues.
suspiria_138@reddit
This is uber helpful. I tried my partner's bidet before, but got a UTI. I'll try this brand and method. Thank you so much!!
socialmediaignorant@reddit
Can buy peri bottles on Amazon too. Women use them after birth to clean and itās wonderful.
SoMuchForSubtlety@reddit
Agreed - lots of portable options available online. I suspect OP needs to start with the prep ASAP and can't wait for even 1-day delivery, though.Ā
A note on portables: most of them don't have a big enough reservoir for messy jobs and you may find they run out of water before you're done hosing off the undercarriage. That's why a 2L soda bottle works well. If you need more than 2L you're probably better off getting in the shower ...
kitterkatty@reddit
That seems so cumbersome lol unless it was maybe the brands with the shaped bottles. Target sells a midsize soft squishy one in their postpartum care section, with a bent nozzle. Itās bigger than the ones the hospital gives moms.
emmany63@reddit
For those who canāt install a bidet on their toilet, there are battery operated ātravel bidetsā on Amazon. Toto (the premiere bidet maker in Japan) makes one that Iāve been using for YEARS.
RevMen@reddit
Get a Culo Clean if you want to be able to turn any bottle into a bidet.
It's designed for backpacking but I don't see any reason you couldn't use one anywhere else.
SoMuchForSubtlety@reddit
Yep, and there are 3D printable caps that you can also use. I'm assuming OP is starting right now and doesn't have time to order a specialty item online or print out a cap (assuming they have a 3D printer). Wands are available at your nearest hardware store today!

Redshirt2386@reddit
I did this last year and have some great advice to share. Good luck!
Redshirt2386@reddit
(The text of my advice because that thread is fun but it takes a while to find this by scrolling lol) āāā Buy the following: Apple juice, chicken or bone broth, popsicles (no artificial dyes or dark colors ā I got lime Outshine), hard candies or lollipops (again, no dyes or dark colors), and something clear and fizzy. This gives just enough of a variety to keep you from going insane with hunger or boredom during the day before the procedure.
Keep a bucket or bowl by the toilet until you know how the prep pills will hit you ā I had to dry heave while pooping and it was very reassuring to have the bowl there in case the heaving became ā¦ not dry. (I have since read that spacing the pills out to every two minutes instead of just taking them one after the other can help to avoid this, as can asking your doc for a zofran script. But I read that too late to be helpful for this round lol)
Get baby wipes or very soft toilet paper, youāre going to be wiping a lot (unless youāre lucky enough to have a bidet). You can also get a cheap ketchup bottle and fill that with warm water so you can squirt yourself clean after each round of butt pee.
Make sure others in your household know whatās going on and help you out by not eating real food in front of you and avoiding whatever bathroom you turn into your personal poop jail.
Rent a movie you like a lot but have seen a few times so you can entertain yourself between āwavesā but wonāt lose track of the story. Or just read a book (bonus since you can also read it on the pot). Or play a video game that can be paused. Or start an AMA. š
Good luck!
Glittering_Drama_493@reddit
You may be glad for that two day prep. I did a day and a half per my doctorās instructions and had to re-do because of āpoorā prep. Also did the pill prep on the re-do. Still had to drink some liquid but not nearly as much as I originally had to do. I am going to ask for pill prep going forward because I definitely donāt want a re-do, and because swallowing all those pills was not nearly as bad as swallowing all that liquid.

Loud enough everyone in the waiting area could hear me. I donāt do well with anesthesia and was pulling my IV out when I came to. They stopped me and took it out for me and I got up and walked out. Have been put out for a few other procedures and have had to be strapped to the bed for getting violent. I only remember blips of things. Absolutely hate getting knocked out.

The first time I went for one, I thought it was the best thing ever because I got to take a day off watching tv and shitting all day, and another day off to lie on a gurney and then watching tv all day! I loved colonoscopy time. I might have hated my job.

Depends on the gastro office. You can get pills, the large gallon jugāthey have options.

I know the goal is empty innards, but the large jug can make you feel like youāre gonna throw up. If you tell them you throw up easily, they might give you the pills instead.

Had one last week. Prep is grim, the actual procedure is decidedly weird, but gas+air was sufficient relief even with biopsies being taken. Plan a decent meal for day after day- donāt waste your money after the appointment as you may still be under the influence of the prep!

So glad they're only done every 10 years.
The colonoscopy itself was easy, at least. I wasn't even put to sleep. I had sedation that made it painless, but I was still conscious.

Your experience depends a lot on what your diet is like.
Do you eat some form of red meat everyday? If so, youāll need the tips about lotion and vaseline for your asshole.

I have to do this every 5 years for the rest of my life now. i got the pills, lots of effing pills. i dont care what flavor the liquid is i'm doing that next time. the pills literally felt like i had a stack of them from my stomach to the back of my throat and it was hard to keep them down and the fire shits! omfg! there has to be a better way to do this. i'm lactose intolerant, maybe a half gallon of milk would do it faster lol the liquid diet i could deal with. juice, broth, jello but the prep sucked donkey balls.

Bill Engvall has a great set about getting his "procedure." It's in two parts on YouTube the first is called "Getting Recognized" and talks about the preparation and the other is titled "Colonoscopy" and talks about the procedure itself. It's hilarious and helps lighten the mood when you might need it most. Enjoy!

Pro tip: Vaseline your starfish ASAP.
This helps protect your darkside from jedi.
babygotbooksandback@reddit
Donāt use Vaseline as it breaks down the scopes used for the procedure. It is ok for other creams like A&D ointment, preparation H, monkey butt etc. I would also recommend either baby wipes or flushable butt wipes because your booty is going to get pretty sore and irritated. (Source: am GI nurse.)
MungoJennie@reddit
Seriously? Vaseline is listed as a recommendation for part of prep on my instructions. Either that or diaper rash cream.
babygotbooksandback@reddit
Maybe just our brand of endoscope. We tell them in class no Vaseline.
MungoJennie@reddit
Idk. I was planning on using Aquaphor anyway, because the idea of Vaseline on my butt is just too weird, but now I definitely will, just to be safe.
agetuwo@reddit
I didn't know about Vaseline breaking down the endoscopes. Mint KY is pretty good, even on toasts.

I had to do this when I was 40. Good thing too because they found something and I had to have the most uncomfortable surgery name ever. Anal fistulectomy. They told me I would be down for 3-4 weeks and I didn't believe them. They were right. After a week and a half I tried working from my bed. Nope, too painful. I went back to work at week 3 but honestly, I should have taken all 4 weeks off.
The colonoscopy wasn't too bad, they gave me this stuff through an IV that the doctor called Milk of Amnesia. He said I wouldn't remember anything that happened for about 15 minutes and he was right. Next thing I remember was him saying I was done but I would have to wait to make sure I was ok. It was kind of scary how I was completely awake but couldn't tell you anything that happened to me for that time.
I do remember thinking it was weird that the doctor had both hands on my shoulders while doing my colonoscopy but I guess he knows what he's doing. /s
