Hahaha! Jersey Girl here. Amazing how we all survived that place! There's a nostalgic documentary about how dangerous many of the rides were and no one cared. I think it's called "Class Action Park". Worth the watch, especially if you've been there
That guy on the left always looked an undisclosed “older age” that never changed. On weekend nights “that guy”would roll up in his Trans-Am with the T-tops out and he’d have his Panama Jack hat on, Ocean Pacific muscle shirt, parachute pants, Van Halen blasting, a case of Lite beer, and a can do attitude.
We had a junior college in my little town and my dad worked there so there was a lot of us who hung around another 1-2 years before moving onto to universities or to just whatever. We were all Dazed and Confused back in those days. Good times weren’t they?
In just two sentences you unlocked some major memories of the 80s for me.
I learned how to drive in a baby blue K car in Drivers Ed in 86, and my sister's best friend and her parents both had Chevettes. No IROC, as we were a Mustang family, but my college roommate circa 1990 had an 86 Berlinetta that could squeeze 2 smaller dudes under the hatch but was so low powered it could barely get out of its own way.
My first financed car was an 86 Camaro. It was a heavy car for a six cylinder and some Camaros even had a 4 cylinder option. Any male driving a Berlineta was in for some serious side eye and downright laughter back then 😂
I hear you, but we were 19 & 20, and his 4 banger 'Maro was 10 times better than the 85 Century I was driving, that's for sure. Heck, I had to drive a 78 Buick Station Wagon in high school, so we both had upgraded!
My first car was a 76 Chevy Nova so I totally understand. I didn’t mean to throw shade: I thought Berlinetas had the same 6 cylinder my 86 and 87 Camaros had. I got plenty of grief for not having an 8 cylinder in mine😆
[I was wrong, it did have the 6 cylinder.[(https://autopolis.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/1982-1986-chevorlet-camaro-berlinetta/#:~:text=With%20107%20to%20150%20hp,far%20from%20a%20redneck%20rocket.) It made a whopping 107 HP! My 85 Century with the Iron Duke 4-banger only made 85 HP.
My cousin had a maroon K car, those things weren't much to look at but were pretty fucking reliable. I was talking to a coworker the other day about Gen X and how far apart the generation is, we're both at the tail end, and consider ourselves Gen X, but grew up way differently. To us watching Tony Hawks podcast on YouTube, interview AD Rock from The Beastie Boys, both pushing 60, is peak old person Gen X. But then people post picture from the late 80's with the Iron Maiden T and driving a Nissan mini-truck, oh yeah that's technically Gen X too. Is there another generation where the same generation can be so different in pop culture references? I guess Babyboomers would be hard to look at, the older side didn't even have electricity in their homes, let alone a pop culture reference. I am pretty interested in that, the evolution of each generation.
I had a core group of friends in high school and we hung out together constantly during most of my teenage years in the ‘80s. Yet I don’t have a single photo of us together during that time.
Cameras, film and photo processing cost money and you were limited to like a dozen pics per roll of film, so in my family photos were reserved for special occasions, like holidays, weddings or graduations.
I feel sad that you don't have pictures with your friends!
I took more pictures in the 80s and 90s than I do now. It meant so much more then. You couldn't wait to get them developed & would open the envelope up immediately at the store. It did suck when some of them came out blurry when you only had 24 or 36 to a roll!
All the endless nights we had
The 20 years of laughs
I’ve looked but I can’t find any photographs
Of us, because it’s weird to take photos with your best friends
Cuz you don’t think that you’ll never see them again
It's funny that back in the film age, it seemed we took more photos of our surroundings than of the people we cared about. The logic being, we saw those people frequently, but when's the next time we'd see the Grand Canyon? Now you look at those photos and toss the landscape ones and keep the ones with the people in them.
I love the age of the camera phone and I am probably one of the few of our generation that loves selfies as they capture moments and not just some landscape we'll forget about in a few years.
I never knew a single person in the 80s who looked like any of these people. None of the characters in 80s tv shows resembled them either. O.P. Found a random photo of silly looking people took a wild guess, I’m guessing. These people actually look like New Jersey citizens- where a certain “look” is considered fashion only to them, regardless of the decade.
Where are you from? I’m in the Midwest- so maybe it was in spots… I remember everyone in the 80s being skinny. Even men, not at like these heavier men in the picture… I was born in 75, so maybe it’s because I was still a child throughout the 80s and just didn’t get out too much 🤷♀️
I agree. I think that’s an ‘88 Maiden shirt which would have made me 18 at the time this pic was taken. All those dudes look like my older siblings, cousins and their friends who were 8 to 10 years older and gave me the fucking creeps when they were around. The fashion sense also screams early 80s.
I graduated in 88 and in New England there absolutely were people that looked like this. They look like working class metal heads. Not everyone dressed the same back then.
Must have been a North East thing. Lol.
I lived on the Northern gulf coast and Southern California around that time, and the people that dressed like that were the ones "stuck in their era". I still see people dressed like that. Lol. Most have white hair now.
His Jean shorts used to actually be his jeans, but they got too holy and dirty so he cut the legs off and now has perfectly good shorts that fit just right. 🤣

I went to a combined 7-12th grade high school. I started there in 1980 and to me who was going on 13, a lot of the 'kids' in upper grades seemed similar to this. I saw two guys fight within a month of starting and watching these mustachioed dudes who were pretty much adults drop bombs was crazy scary.

The guy in the gold shorts looks like someone’s PE teacher.
