Where in the USA would you like to see a GTA game set in?

Vice city (Miami) is up next for GTA 6, by the time we see GTA 7 we’ll probably all be in retirement homes but what city/region would you like to see it set in? It can either be one previously used or a new city/region entirely.
savagetwonkfuckery@reddit
DMV
Em_lasagna@reddit
Specifically the mixing bowl exit mess around springfield
CrownStarr@reddit
Crash into the White House fence and escape the Secret Service. Rob a mansion in Potomac or Great Falls. Time trial lap around the beltway. Steal a document from CIA headquarters. Yeah, I can see it.
deederman@reddit
I think Baltimore/DMV would be interesting. Such different vibes so close to each other
hamstrdethwagon@reddit
And have it based on the wire
thelordreptar90@reddit
Only if they implement a feature where the Maryland NPC’s are terrible drivers.
Curious-Following952@reddit
Baltimore could be nice, or maybe a Atlanta
ScoutPlayer1232@reddit
I want a GTA setting outside the US not another American based one.
Mexico, Canada, Australia, South Africa, shit Rock Star North is based in Scotland set it in the fuggin UK or Ireland.
ScoutPlayer1232@reddit
Honestly somewhere remote like Idaho or even Puerto Rico. The former is much easier for you to get away with certain crimes in.
Throwaway46034792@reddit
Utah because of all of the mormons I think it would be funmy
MMAGG83@reddit
A border city would be cool. Half in the US, half in Mexico. Like San Diego/Tijuana.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Chicago, GTA has done that city dirty.
OkBlock1637@reddit
Prohibition era Chicago would be such a cool setting for GTA.
BluegrassRailfan1987@reddit
Mafia kinda has that vibe to it. At least the first game.
slpgh@reddit
LA Noire - Chicago
I’d play that
EpicAura99@reddit
What would the LA stand for this time 🤔🤔🤔
Snookfilet@reddit
LA nois
slpgh@reddit
They could always move one of the side characters to Chicago and do a mob story. Timing is kind of right
shadow_spinner0@reddit
Idk if they'll do that since it be more similar to Red Dead. A Chicago/Detroit map would be nice though imo
Ew0ksAmongUs@reddit
So remake Mafia I but set it in Chicago?
Fappy_as_a_Clam@reddit
I thought Mafia was set in Chicago, just a fictionalized version of it
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Have t played it
BenjaminSkanklin@reddit
Yeah Mafia already checks that box as far as I'm concerned. Lost Haven is based on Chicago the same way Rockstar uses Liberty City/Vice City/San Andreas to represent NYC/Miami/Los Angeles.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Is it as good as a GTA game?
jurassicbond@reddit
In the first game, the open world was pretty empty compared to GTA. The story was fun though.
I never played the others.
BenjaminSkanklin@reddit
It certainly had it's following, and it's reviews/ratings are comparable generally in the high 9s/10.
I was too biased by Rockstar games before I tried it, so it felt like an off brand GTA, but I was also playing the the remake of a game from 2002 after absorbing all of Rockstar's catalog from GTA3 to RDR2. If you're into Chicago/Mafia/Prohibition themes I think you'll like it.
estifxy220@reddit (OP)
For sure. Tons of recognizable locations and culture, would be perfect for a GTA game. Could also do some cool stuff with the Great Lakes
puddyspud@reddit
First Expansion is Detroit
EbaySniper@reddit
It's already been done, kinda, look up Mafia 1.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Smuggling across Lake Michigan missions
fingerbeatsblur@reddit
Chicago is redundant with Liberty City existing. I can only see it being added if Rockstar makes a massive USA map decades from now.
BenjaminSkanklin@reddit
That would be so great to see, they toyed with it 20 years ago with San Andreas and the distance compression proved doable for a mock LA/SF/LV. Creating the entire United States would make for an absolutely massive game if treated as a sandbox but I could see them incorporating multiple regions and requiring plane/train loading screen travel. I'd almost say they'll have to attempt it in order to keep pushing the envelope
MrRaspberryJam1@reddit
That would probably have to be a different game all together, which I think Rockstar is capable of creating. They probably won’t but one can always dream.
majinspy@reddit
New Orleans. Crazy old and corrupt city with a giant mix of cultures. Also, outside town is the swamps and their...denizens.
RedMarten42@reddit
people there already drive like its gta
ghost-church@reddit
Going onto any side street instantly explodes your tires
majinspy@reddit
Omg you get it!!!
timbotheny26@reddit
Didn't Mafia 3 basically already do that?
Chemical-Mix-6206@reddit
Unexpected street closures due to rain flooding the streets or being blocked for Second Lines or other parades. Dodge the potholes. The infamous 5-way intersection in Gentilly.
holiestcannoly@reddit
They supposedly have an abandoned theme park there too
Chemical-Mix-6206@reddit
No supposedly about it. Six Flags was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina and never reopened. Terminator Genesis used it as a filming site because it looks like a post apocalyptic nightmare.
holiestcannoly@reddit
I didn’t know that! I think that would be a cool place for GTA though. The city, the bayou, abandoned theme park
devilbunny@reddit
It is Mardi Gras day. You are in Bywater and have 20 minutes to get to the Audubon Park Zoo. Crossing a parade route will instantly trigger six stars.
Go.
holiestcannoly@reddit
I would love to play in the bayou
zugabdu@reddit
Rockstar Games kind of did this with Red Dead Redemption 2's Saint Denis.
Canard-Rouge@reddit
Imagine reviving Saint Denis in GTA
HowLittleIKnow@reddit
I honestly don't know why every game isn't set in New Orleans.
Distinct_Damage_735@reddit
Thank you! I have been thinking the same thing for ages. Really cool architecture and layout, cultures unlike the rest of America...
ExtremePotatoFanatic@reddit
Detroit would be cool!
ExtremePotatoFanatic@reddit
Detroit!!!
KDY_ISD@reddit
Bay Area sounds good to me, honestly. Different vibe, different terrain, big street racing/sideshow culture, iconic buildings and areas in a relatively tight geographic area. Break out of Alcatraz or some shit.
prombloodd@reddit
Fuck no. We’ve had enough of California being copied in GTA.
SummitSloth@reddit
Ironically, San Francisco is much more different than LA than Virginia is different to say, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
California is a good setting for a reason, it's diverse
Nophlter@reddit
I get the overall point but given the original comment said Bay Area, the Bay feels way more similar to LA than VA does to South Carolina IMO. SF on its on though, I agree
DreamQueen710@reddit
I mean, the creators could just spend a week in Oakland filming and put that out. It's basically irl GTA out there.
estifxy220@reddit (OP)
Cant forget Silicon Valley as well, tons of potential for that area
Just like how GTA 5 mocked Hollywood and the Film industry in LA a mockery of the Tech industry in the Bay Area would be funny
discountsethrogen@reddit
Have you played Watch Dogs 2?
BankManager69420@reddit
Similarly, the book “Little Brother” by Cory Doctorow is really good and set in SF as well. Similar storyline too.
KDY_ISD@reddit
Hella funny
DreamQueen710@reddit
I wanna see a car get launched down Lumbard Street when running from the cops at 4 stars
mag_safe@reddit
We had a little taste of the Bay Area in San Andreas. It would be good to revisit San Fierro.
nottalkinboutbutter@reddit
The hills would make for some crazy driving - like Crazy Taxi but a different type of crazy.
KDY_ISD@reddit
Build up a good head of steam on California Street and launch yourself into fucking orbit lol
KoRaZee@reddit
Oakland is live action GTA, they don’t need a game version of it since the real thing is just outside all the time
accountofyawaworht@reddit
Boston would be interesting. Lots of history relating to organised crime, and you could add Providence and Worcester as secondary locations to unlock.
worsthandleever@reddit
Elliot Davis as a Strangers and Freaks encounter, a mission involving taking a truck down Storrow Drive…
continuousBaBa@reddit
ATL
Red_Beard_Rising@reddit
I don't get into gaming much. I assume Chicago's Lower Wacker has been done. We have other subterranean streets.
Parking_Aerie_2054@reddit
Hawaii Alaska and especially Texas would be cool
Parking_Aerie_2054@reddit
Honestly I think the pa nj and ny tri state would be cool, since 6 is covering the entire of Florida doing this section could make sense, you could keep liberty city and build off of it put some sopranos type stuff in Jersey or rednecks in Pa
Subvet98@reddit
Cleveland Ohio
shadow_spinner0@reddit
I'd like to see Texas map, maybe with some spots in Mexico
BigBlaisanGirl@reddit
San Francisco. Lots of opportunities for Port and water missions. Sacramento would work as an expansion pack.
timbotheny26@reddit
I'd really love to see a GTA set in a more rural area as opposed to the usual big city setting.
I was thinking North Dakota could work, maybe have stuff involving corruption and crime involving the oil industry and local small towns.
presidintfluffy@reddit
Boston, Chicago or Detroit. A return to liberty city with an expanded look at the region could be cool.
nine_of_swords@reddit
Vibe-wise: Chicago's a pretty blatant one, but I'd mention St. Louis, too. You're essentially trading some of the scale and Lake Michigan for some closer access to hilly terrain and Cahokia. Also one of the more notably suburb/primary city tension dynamics in the US
Layout: Birmingham - lots of varied landscape and relatively isolated but close by subareas, so there's a lot more easy "roadblocks" for region blocking/unlocking during gameplay. Also, close by disconnected "theme towns" like mining town Jasper or lake town Pell City and a strong tendency hide things in the middle of the woods, like Barber Motorsports or Birmingport
nvkylebrown@reddit
Las Vegas, for the Strip and Hoover dam.
Portland Ore for the tightly packed downtown freeways, bridges, and the Vista Ridge tunnels, and the varied elevations/steep curvy roads.
BankManager69420@reddit
Also Portland has the most strip clubs per capita which can definitely be parodied in GTA
Shakezula84@reddit
I might be biased, but I would love a Pacific Northwest set GTA game.
So on the map have two major cities. One for their Seattle and one for their Spokane. Place on opposite sides of the map, put some mountains in the middle, and then have unique enviroments on either side of the mountains. The Seattle stand-in will be hilly, forested, and wet with industrial cities around it. The Spokane stand-in will be flat, with a more rural feel around the city.
If they want to be truly bold, don't make it an island. Just do what Red Dead does and make it impossible to reach the other land (I know that is harder in a modern context, but its not my job to figure it out).
Traditional_Trust_93@reddit
I want it set in the Twin cities in Minnesota. Why? Because the state of Minnesota is underrepresented in movies and video games. I just want to see Minnesota destroyed in a disaster movie or something similar but that will never happen but this disaster movies only show popular cities.
alien_from_Europa@reddit
I'd like a mission where they have to drive through the Mall of America.
Young_Rock@reddit
Houston. GTA’s satire would have a field day with the juxtaposition of the wards vs. middle class suburbs vs. oil money big shots. Plus all the nearby rural cowboy activities
alien_from_Europa@reddit
No shortage of parking lots
ludicrous780@reddit
Honolulu
alien_from_Europa@reddit
It would be amazing if natural disasters were included in the game. Navigate around an erupting volcano or drive swiftly away from a monster tsunami. Oahu is perfect for that.
auau_gold_scoffs@reddit
west virginia.
SeaWolvesRule@reddit
Anchorage, AK
milehigh11@reddit
Colorado. Mtns would be fun.
cohrt@reddit
Boston, Detroit or Chicago would be interesting
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
We're all waiting for GTA 9: Cornhole set in Iowa.
Atlas7993@reddit
No no, there'd be a plot involving a meth ring and human trafficking. Iowa isn't that innocent. It has some deep, dark cornholes.
theSPYDERDUDE@reddit
Don’t forget East Side Des Moines. That pert should just be full of needles on the ground and fenced in playgrounds as usual
CupBeEmpty@reddit
Half hour drives to every location, everyone is nice, and you settle all disputes with cornhole or baking casserole. It is also half farming simulator.
thadtheking@reddit
All the NPCs have guns.
EbaySniper@reddit
They're all ARs, shotguns, and bolt-action rifles.
theoriginalcafl@reddit

VaultBoy3@reddit
I'd like to see one in Seattle/Portland area. I think the Pacific Northwest region is beautiful, and it would be a nice change from the typical GTA themes.
JimBones31@reddit
Houston
curiousprospect@reddit
The concept of the game very much lends itself to American Sunbelt, auto-oriented cities. By that standard, Houston is the natural choice as opposed to denser options like SF, Boston, Philly, Chicago, etc.
Correlative to being able to drive out to L.A.'s desert boonies in GTA V, I'd love to be able to drive out to Houston's swampy refineries in La Porte and Baytown, or commandeer a helicopter out to Galveston. Houston has precisely the urban design and culture and ecology that's just asking to be in a GTA game.
JimBones31@reddit
Absolutely and there's always a mission down by the docks!
MediocreExternal9@reddit
Honestly any Texan city would do. GTA isn't afraid to mock every single aspect of the city they're set in and I can only imagine the level of insanity Texas would offer them.
estifxy220@reddit (OP)
We need a GTA game set somewhere in Texas one day for sure
JimBones31@reddit
Boston would be good too. Both locations have the opportunity for the classic GTA Docks setting.
CupBeEmpty@reddit
And all the rural missions would be out in the New Hampshire and Vermont boonies with one map area that was the Maine coast with sailing missions.
JimBones31@reddit
"Bob the lobsterman has been snuggling drugs in watertight bags sunk with his traps. Pay him a visit and make sure he remembers the final claws of our business arrangement"

demonspawn9@reddit
1970s Bronx would be interesting or prohibition era Chicago.
No-Tip3654@reddit
Paris
wrosecrans@reddit
Not USA, but Paris in 1896, arguably the setting of the first ever known car theft. Call it "GTA Zero" or something.
True_to_you@reddit
If the USA is the only option then Chicago. Houston would be cool. I think it's got a very unique hip hop culture and vibe. I really would like them to do a London mob game. Maybe based on the krays back in 60s-70s London.
Enchant23@reddit
New York is probably gonna be the next location if it's not in another country
CrypticQuery@reddit
I would love to see a 1970s Liberty City represented in a GTA game. There are so many significant events during that decade in the city (e.g. the city's fiscal crisis/bankruptcy, the 1977 blackout/mass looting, the Mafia, the beginnings of the crack epidemic, political corruption, serial shootings, and the list goes on). Not to mention the music, styles, etc.
Hell, give me a car chase sequence that goes through it!
Lost-Spinach-6742@reddit
Yesss please
mister-fancypants-@reddit
I want NYC because It’s a big city I’ve been to countless times and I’m selfish
estifxy220@reddit (OP)
Yeah I would really like to see another GTA set in Liberty City with all of the modern technology we have now. It would be insane.
A gta game set in another country would also be cool. One set somewhere in europe such as Paris, London, or Beelin would be awesome
Skaftetryne77@reddit
I want it set outside the USA. GTA 6 set in Paris. Impossible to get around due to endless traffic jams and super aggressive drivers. Only way to actually do missions is to pedal on bikes or swim in the Seine
GodzillaDrinks@reddit
I'm perfectly happy with them alternating between San Andreas and Liberty City.
That being said, the best parts of the San Andreas titles are the rural bits. And OC is great - its perfect for the game's sense of humor because OC is dangerously right-wing. But that leads me to a totally unexplored part of the US that I think most Americans forget actually exists. Desperately, hopelessly rural Appalachia.
Far Cry 5, kind of scratches that itch, but imagine somewhere much more isolated and with fewer services. Who would refer to the towns in FC5 as "the City". And where you will meet endless poverty, but also a surprising amount of wealth - in the hands of the scariest people you'll ever meet - because whatever they've done they can't go back to civilization.
ButtSexington3rd@reddit
Someone made a spoof map of a GTA version of Philly /Jersey shore/ eastern pennsyltucky and I'm dying to play that game. You've got a large gritty city, a shore with a massive casino town, and plenty of woods to make meth and hide bodies in.
Canard-Rouge@reddit
What is eastern Pennsyltucky?
ButtSexington3rd@reddit
Pennsyltucky is the stretch of wilderness between Philly and Pittsburgh. Major cities on both ends, boonies in the middle.
Canard-Rouge@reddit
I'm aware of the concept, bit I was asking, where is eastern pennsyltucly? Lancaster? Cause it's not really that Bible belty until you cross the susquehanna...which isn't really in the philly region
ButtSexington3rd@reddit
This is the map I was referencing, it's pretty condensed and includes Buffalo and Niagara falls. As far as eastern pennsyltucky, I was thinking the southern areas between Lancaster and West Chester. Actually now that I'm thinking about it, if they included Lancaster we could get some fun "laying low on the Amish farm" storylines.

New Orleans
SawgrassSteve@reddit
GTA Boston. It would be unplayable. Narrow, winding streets jammed with dented cars.
olivegardengambler@reddit
Somewhere in the southwest. And no, SoCal isn't the southwest. Something with Breaking Bad energy would work out pretty well, and you can take inspiration from anywhere from Las Vegas to Phoenix to Albuquerque to El Paso.
Ozzimo@reddit
This is very much me showing my bias, but a cold, rainy, moody, GTA set in Seattle. (or in the PNW between Portland and Vancouver BC) would be a great way to show off systems in GTA that don't get much use in hot locals like Miami and LA. Plenty of twisty mountain roads or sea-side cruises.
sakima147@reddit
Some place like Buffalo NY. If would be like the intro to 5.
ValosAtredum@reddit
Detroit and Windsor would be awesome. You could have fun shit going on the two bridges and the tunnel between the two cities

Baltimore-DC for a more serious tone game. Something like The Wire

CupBeEmpty@reddit
Yes absolutely.
I’d be a little sad it wasn’t modern because the GTA games are really fun when you just drive somewhere and you are like “oh yeah I know this place.”
My only other option would be near future cyberpunk Chicago with a resurgent Gary and Hammond Indiana.
HowLittleIKnow@reddit
I think it should be set in Bangor, Maine and the surrounding counties. Just miles and miles of logging roads that you're zooming down in your Corvette. You could get lost on Katahdin and there would be this whole survival mechanic.

I know the games are mainly tangentially related to actual car theft but it turns out the highest rate of car theft is in Colorado.
