Xen fems - Side part strong 💪

Any other ladies out there flat out refuse to surrender to the middle part? I don’t find them flattering for most and I will die on this hill.
I saw someone comment on an A-List celebrity with a side sweep saying “the side sweep needs to be swept away”. 🙄 I still consider middle parts “butt cuts” and I will forever rebuke this trend.
What say you Xen ladies? Did you embrace the middle part?
faeriechyld@reddit
I still side part, I have a little cow lick there that makes it easier to work with it than against it.
I also just feel like a straight middle part on super long hair just looks like a big boring curtain of hair. Like you just picked the default style and went with it.
MabsAMabbin@reddit
Ugh, middle parts. In and out. In and out. Enough, I part on side and never follow middle trends lol. Frak 'em.
Away-Ad3792@reddit
The gold standard for style and beauty is to choose things that LOOK GOOD ON YOU. If you follow every fad blindly you will end up having periods of looking awful. Pick simple classic styles that flatter your face (or if clothes, your body) and then add touches of updated style pieces to look current. How do people not know this?
shorttermparker@reddit
At 41, I permed my hair for the first time and it was an amazing decision! Top volume really seems key to keep me looking young. But I’m loving a side part & swoop bang, just curlier than before.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I haven’t rocked a perm since circa 1996. As wavy/textured as my hair is I do sometimes wonder if a perm now would give it just enough to be presentable curly (currently not). Love your bravery!
gohashhi@reddit
My gen alpha daughter flatly refuses to adopt the middle part fashion, so I expect it will probably die out soon with her generation
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Love hearing this! Gives me hope! 😂
spinquelle@reddit
Part of the reason I part on the side still is because my hair is practically WHITE if I part it down the middle. Genetics and 3 kids will do that to a person. Oh, and solidarity with ankle socks!💪
gobbledegook-@reddit
Side parts FOREVER!!
LstCstLdy@reddit
Side part usually. I do a center part when I clip each side back behind and above my ears but that's it. My gen Z daughter is a side part-er also!
Imnotonthelist@reddit
I def still part my hair on the side!
polish432b@reddit
My hair just parts itself on the left naturally so why fight it?
Polarbearstein@reddit
Yep, can't fight it, it does what it wants to do, not matter what hair tools I throw at it.
teriaki@reddit
Same! It was a cowlick battle every freaking day before I just went with it.
scarlet-begonia-9@reddit
Same! I could brush my hair straight back when it’s wet and it’ll still part in the same place.
SeasonPositive6771@reddit
I have extremely straight relatively thin hair.
I look like a hippie with an unflattering part if I part it in the middle. Just not a good look.
Shart_Director@reddit
The way you part your hair has a big effect on your appearance.
There was a great Radio lab about a person who changed his popularity by simply flipping his part to the other side.
That's said, it's funny how when I was in high school I exclusively parted my hair in the middle with the ubiquitous undercut. Haven't middle parted it since then. Although my high school me wouldn't look out of place with zoomer/alpha style today.
BeerAnBooksAnCats@reddit
Oh shit, I’ve been looking for this episode! Thank you!
Skibidi_Rizzler_96@reddit
45 yo man, the edge of my undercut is at my natural part line and I don't part at all
FancyOctopodes@reddit
This is so true! I started side parting in college, so for me the middle part is definitely more of a throwback.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
That’s fascinating! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the info!
Miss-Figgy@reddit
Me too. Left side for me.
I have rarely done the middle part because I have thick, curly hair, and it does NOT look good, lol
HappyOfCourse@reddit
I look like I'm wearing a wig if I part down the middle. It's ugly.
Longjumping-Stage709@reddit
I look like the lady in the American Gothic painting with a middle part. No thank you.
Deeeeeeeep indie sleaze side part for me.
Bright_Respect_1279@reddit
I've parted my hair on the side my whole life!! 😁
silentchatterbox@reddit
I love that there is a gif for this! 🤣👏
Bright_Respect_1279@reddit
Me too, made me laugh!! There's a "center part" one as well. 😉
EclipseCaste@reddit
I parted my hair in the middle, wore crop tops, and wore baggy jeans in the 90’s. I’m gonna keep my winged eye liner, side part, and skinny jeans in high boots for a few more years. Once they’re ’back in style’ I’ll switch to the old me 😂
mouseSXN@reddit
You can have my side part when you can pry it from my cold, dead follicles.
Appropriate_Bird_223@reddit
I part my hair, as well as both of my daughters' hair on the side.
Christie318@reddit
Side part forever here. I have a widow’s peak and cowlick that makes a middle part look terrible on me.
Pelsi@reddit
Middle part since the 90s when my hair’s purpose was to cover my face with all the teen angst. Kinda glad it’s back.
Starbreiz@reddit
I'll die on the hill of keeping my side part. My hair is also curly and looks weird when parted down the middle
Creepy-Floor-1745@reddit
Oof I’ve been wearing the dumb middle part for 4 years now. I’m not as brave as you.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
It looks good on you! ☺️
Creepy-Floor-1745@reddit
That’s kind of you - when it’s down with the middle part I feel like I have the look of a Seattle grunge band drummer from the 90s 😅
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Dave Grohl was definitely rocking that mid part when he was with Nirvana! 🤘Ah, nostalgia!
winediva78@reddit
I'm Gen X. My hair has been side parted since the 80's. No matter when it thinks it wants to do.
jupiterwizard@reddit
Side part all the way bebe!
MarsailiPearl@reddit
I hate a middle part on me. Makes me look like my mom in the 70s.
skeptical_hope@reddit
Naw, see; middle part was the vibe in the mid-late 90s and it's always looked great on my hair. I've been waiting for it and wide leg jeans to come back since I was a teenager. It's my time again!
apolliana@reddit
This is why I’m confused by this thread! Weren’t we all doing middle parts in the 90s? And yeah, I still am!
skeptical_hope@reddit
To me, side parts and skinny jeans are Proper Millenial Territory. Middle parts and baggy jeans were the uniform of my youth.
ScoutFinch80@reddit
Oh I'm so dying on this hill with you as well. My oldest Gen Z daughter pays her hair in the middle, and it looks so awful 😭 (don't worry, I'm the mom who lets my kids be themselves!) and I just don't understand it! My Middle Gen Z daughter also parts her hair in the middle, but she has bangs, and it's all super cute on her. My "babies" are alphas, and I still do alpha daughter's hair, so she gets a side part 🙌🏻.
MexicanVanilla22@reddit
A middle part makes my face double in size. A side part is very visually pleasing. I will die on this hill with you.
aqua_vida@reddit
This. Better to have my face look it’s best than be on trend👌 Also how I feel about pants/jeans - better to wear what’s flattering than what’s trending.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Same! I have a heart-shaped face and look ridiculous with a middle part.
IDKHow2UseThisApp@reddit
I have a heart-shaped face and a significant schnoz. I literally look like Moe from the Three Stooges with a middle part.
DagnyTheSpencer@reddit
My mother told me the middle part made my nose look bigger. I've never had a problem with my nose... I have my father's nose.
He got a nose job in his late 50s because he hated his nose. Cut my nose off his face...
MelodicPaint8924@reddit
I broke my nose at some point in my teen years and didn't know. My nose is now permanently shifted to the right. A side part makes it so much less noticeable. I stand with you.
CatsAndDogs314@reddit
Yes! My nose is not straight (thanks to a car accident), and I look absolutely ridiculous with a middle part. There's no need to draw any more attention to my already crooked nose.
IDKHow2UseThisApp@reddit
Mine's crooked too, and a line straight down the center of my face really highlights it. Assymetrical girlie fist bump of solidarity.
OkTacoCat@reddit
S A M E
ErrantTaco@reddit
Me too!! I also have a small forehead so it literally makes me have hair kind of all over my face. No, just.
VioletVenable@reddit
I’m on this hill, too. My moonface and I suffered through center parts once, and that’s more than enough.
imgoodatoverthinking@reddit
This!! Plus, I feel that a center part draws attention to any asymmetry in your face. A side part makes it less obvious if done correctly.
PistolGrace@reddit
Yes, heart-shaped heads unite!
Plus. I have a cow lick right in the front, to the side. So i have to part my hair to the side or my hair sticks up there anyway. Why fight beautiful nature?
DagnyTheSpencer@reddit
Straight back into a bun/ponytail or part just to the left. Unless I'm rocking pigtails, then it's a sloppy zigzag in the middle.
My mother told me a middle part made my nose look bigger... that's different baggage.
Magellan-88@reddit
I've had a side part for my entire life & I'm not changing now
inevitablethursday@reddit
Middle part since 90s. I'm into minimal effort hair styling when my hair is long and it just does it by itself.
zuklei@reddit
I part my hair on the side because I have more hair follicles on one side than the other. They can pry middle part out of my cold dead hands.
peppermintmeow@reddit
I refuse to middle part. Not since middle school. I look witchy. Side part always.
Spoonerize_Duck_Fat@reddit
I could rock a middle part when I was in high school, but it just looks so stupid now. Side parts forever! I give zero shits what other people think.
Phoniceau@reddit
Side part all the way for me, middle part is awful for naturally wavy hair.
Smurfblossom@reddit
I have seen some women look good with a middle part, but I'm not one of them. I either side part or no part my hair.
Sp4ceh0rse@reddit
My hair wouldn’t part in the middle even if I tried. Deep side part is just the way she grows, can’t fight it!
SouthernEffect87yO@reddit
I have a round face with chubby cheeks. I cannot give up my side part, idc who don’t like it!
DaisyRage7@reddit
My hair has parted down the middle since I was born. I’ve tried to do side parts and it just won’t work. No matter what I do, what stylist I see, my hair is straight, flat, and parted down the middle.
There are so many things in our world worth fighting for right now, my hair isn’t on my list. LOL
ChaucersDuchess@reddit
SIDE PART TIL DEATH
Necessary_Range_3261@reddit
Side part all the way! I have a skunk stripe of grey right down the middle, I’d really look my age if I parted it down the middle.
uniqueusera@reddit
Side part forever!!!
Educational_Zebra_40@reddit
I wish I could do a side part but mine parts naturally in the middle.
Fragrant-Emotion7373@reddit
I will never ever part my hair in the middle… like you mentions, it is unflattering. I’ve tried moving my side part more towards the middle, but I don’t think I could ever fully adopt the middle part.
But I said that about leggings and now that is ALL I WEAR every day. 🤷♀️
yearoftherabbit@reddit
Natural, I wear a middle part, straight, I part it on the side cos my hair is on the fine side and looks thicker that way.
Ginger_Snaps_Back@reddit
I embraced the middle part a couple of years ago. My hair is long, and it kind of made me look like my mom in the late 70s. Or a witch. And now that The Greys are slowly taking over, I feel more witch-like, and I love it. Now I need a little cottage in the woods, with a big garden, and a family of crows to befriend.
Creepy-Floor-1745@reddit
Maybe me and my crows and get together with you and your crows and play Hocus Pocus together some day 🥹
IntermittentFries@reddit
Yeah I don't have strong opinions now either.
I imagine the side-part hate is from millennials who are struggling with not being the trend setting generation anymore.
3kidsnomoney---@reddit
I'm also happily growing greys on a middle part with long hair... old witch of the woods sounds like a good aesthetic to me!
ThisisWambles@reddit
your best bet for that is parts of northern Canada. Cute cottages, but no crows. However the ravens are bigger than a cat.
Somewhereoverrainbow@reddit
But...the geese.
ThisisWambles@reddit
they have a treaty with the ravens, so make good with the ravies and you’re all set. Just remember your peanut tithings.
HiramMcDaniels9@reddit
I did the middle part in middle/high school because I was going for a Morticia Adams vibe. I'm rocking the side part now because my look has shifted a little less goth and a little more punk.
idontknowhowaboutyou@reddit
Can I move in next door? (At a reasonable distance of course)
ijustsailedaway@reddit
I’m actually a little disappointed my long hair doesn’t look good with a middle part because I do love witch asthetic. I have made friends with a small murder though.
AndromedaGreen@reddit
I’ve always done the middle part because I have a prominent widow’s peak that looks awful with a side part.
Rare_Background8891@reddit
I gave in last year. I actually discovered that the middle part with loose curls is a great look on me and lasts forever. I can get away with washing every four days instead of every day when I wear my hair straight. Save time in the morning? Yes please. I also regularly get told I look younger than I am and I think it’s embracing the younger hairstyles that’s doing it. I have not adopted any gen z clothing styles.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
You’re so lucky to go so long between washes! I’m erryday over here and twice on a hot day! 😣
ee-5e-ae-fb-f6-3c@reddit
A lot of people go longer without a wash than they should.
ThisIsADaydream@reddit
This! I agree that it definitely doesn't work for everyone, but it looks great (very witchy/70s) on me.
I also think it's utterly stupid that anyone cares about how others style their hair. Can't we all just do our hair the way that makes us look and feel good!?
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Love this! I embraced grays for awhile but there wasn’t enough for my liking yet. I’m definitely not dyeing after 50.
Cevogyrl@reddit
As a black fem xennial I concur, but also hair should never be bone straight, you must bump the ends!
ClassicMovieFan@reddit
Also, I need flips to come back for good. A side part and flip!? Sign me up!
VioletVenable@reddit
White fem xennial who just learned this term yesterday here! Even in the days when I burned up my flat iron getting the most pin-straight hair possible, those ends were getting turned under. It just looks nicer!
InMyHagPhase@reddit
My hair dresser, every single time without fail, parts my hair in the middle when she's done. I come in with it parted on the left, and I want it parted on the left. I stand up, at the end, and part it myself. I've gone to her for over a year.
I will fight this fight until my dying breath lmao
ClassicMovieFan@reddit
Side part 4eva!!!!
pahshaw@reddit
I have wavy hair so for me the question is do I want to look like Jessica Rabbit or the Quaker Oatmeal Man?
I say let people do what they want! enjoy their unique hair vibes and let them not be brainwashed by marketing to feel bad about themselves!
If you can rock a hippie center part and wish to do so, then get it and have fun! I technically can do center part if I go full 90s and use little clips and things, tamp down that Founding Fathers vibe. But mostly I'm lazy and just do what "She" wants and "She" wants to lay on a side part with minimal effort then cool that's what we do
buffymiffington@reddit
I will join you on that hill! Middle parts make me look weird. Side part forever!
spsanderson@reddit
Side
Not_HavingAGoodTime@reddit
Been doing this forever and a cowlick is part of the reason why. Tried parting it down the middle and I look like a witch so it stays to the side.
lady_raptor83@reddit
I've always changed my hair part depending on how i style my hair that day. WTS.... middle parts are really not the most flattering for most faces because most of us are not symmetrical. Have a lopsided eyebrow, can't match your eyeliner as easily to the left vs the right? Nose slightly crooked? Do a side part and you'll look a ton more even. These young girls don't realize this yet but once they look back on their pictures they will realize- side parts are where it's at.
salyndo2123@reddit
Side part for life! I have a permanent side part, and if I try to do a middle part, it just doesn't look right
AppropriateDream2903@reddit
Mine has been parted down the middle my whole life. It doesn’t want to go to the side. So I accept.
Cyclibant@reddit
The side part/skinny jeans messaging is strong on TikTok, but ultimately is such a sham - because I never stopped seeing Gen Zs & Gen Alpha walking around wearing either. And they're not all wearing those calf socks either.
alles_en_niets@reddit
Quarter crew for life!
After-Leopard@reddit
Exactly. The high schoolers around me are all wearing crop tops and baggy mid rise cargo pants. Or baggy shirt and skinny jeans/leggings. Side parts all over. I see all level of socks too.
JimMcRae@reddit
I honestly don't know anyone who wants an extra six inches of fabric up their calves
Sikelgaita1@reddit
Am I the only one that bases my sock length on actual weather?
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
No, you’re not!
Legitimate-Produce-1@reddit
Me, but only because I have scar tissue and nerve damage on my ankle and can't stand the seams where ankle socks end. I know I'm an outlier.
worker_ant_6646@reddit
Me too, but I just need the compression and warmth to keep my legs and feet feeling good.
thegiantbadger@reddit
I’ve been wearing crew socks my whole life. Never bought into ankle and no show socks. They always slide down into my shoes
Latter_Painter_3616@reddit
I’ll be deep in the cold cold ground before I recognize a middle part!
silentchatterbox@reddit
Side parter here, all my life. A part should have nothing to do with trends or generation and everything to do with an individual’s appearance and features. I will die on this hill.
sysaphiswaits@reddit
I have a cowlick. I don’t think I COULD do a middle part if I wanted to, and I don’t want to.
3kidsnomoney---@reddit
I just part my hair where it parts naturally, which is basically in the middle. It's just long and simple with some layers around the face and it air dries better that way. I'm really lazy with my hair!
FemaleMishap@reddit
I part on the side. Shave everything from the part down. I have a lovely tattoo on the side of my head.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Love that! Fierce! I had a low undercut once, it was so wonderful in the Southern summer! I gave up trying to maintain but enjoyed while it lasted!
FemaleMishap@reddit
It's a floral piece, designed by my girlfriend, with the poems of Sappho as the prompt.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Sounds so beautiful and meaningful!
carrierael77@reddit
Middle part, socks pulled up to the knees, high waisted pants what's next?
Do they not realize they are replicating the very boomers they are annoyed by?
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
🤣You’re right!
Motor_Sweet7518@reddit
I’ve got an asymmetrical cut. Parting it in the middle just looks like I slept on it.
Haven@reddit
I have curls so it really depends on the attitude my hair has that day on which way the part is going.
That said, when my hair is pissy and parts in the middle I HATE it!
ladyliferules@reddit
Side part is just more flattering. For everyone. Let the kids do what they want but we will be more attractive up here dying on this hill.
Poison_Ivy_Rorschach@reddit
My cowlick is literally in the front near my center part. I can’t do my hair any other way. Either it’s pulled back or it parts naturally to the side.
lumberj73@reddit
I have a widow's peak and a cowlick, so I have no choice but to do a side part lol
kgcatlin@reddit
My hair literally will not part any other way. Even if I don’t brush it, it just naturally falls into a side part.
WordySpark@reddit
My hair refuses to stop parting on the side; I have nothing to do with it 😆
MorindaDedley@reddit
I’m dying on that hill with you. The middle part does not work for me.
Complaint-Expensive@reddit
I part my hair to the left, and have for decades now, because it's less common than a part to the right. It was a definite decision.
FuzzyScarf@reddit
When I was a little girl my mom parted my hair in the middle and I hated it. When I was old enough I started parting my hair on the side and haven’t stopped.
onions-make-me-cry@reddit
I prefer the way side parts look, but my natural part is in the middle and I don't fight it. Most of the time I can't even find my hairbrush and I simply pull my hair back in a messy bun. But not a cute messy bun, oh no. A true messy bun.
sunsetcrasher@reddit
Yeah I look weird in middle parts because of a cowlick, plus I just have never liked the look. Side part is already back, we made it!
lovepeacefakepiano@reddit
I had a middle part until I was 20, then I embraced the side parting and never looked back. I look better that way and that’s that.
BmoreCreative@reddit
Nope. I refuse. I did the middle part already. No. And I refused thin eye brows the first time. You’re not tricking me this time!
dailyoracle@reddit
Side part to the end ❤️
cogogal@reddit
I do the side part when my hair is in a ponytail, but have surrendered to the center part when I wear it down. I work at a college, so perhaps it’s pressure from all the young ‘uns 🤷🏼♀️
amygdala23@reddit
I can't part my hair in the middle- Widow's peak AND cowlick next to each other 😂
knifeXspider@reddit
I came looking for my fellow Widow's Peakers
VioletVenable@reddit
Right here! My widow’s peak is slightly off-center but a center part looks off if I don’t split it down the middle. So, in those days, I had to part my hair while it was still soaking wet and then blast the top with the hair dryer in order to defeat my cowlick.
Side parts for life!
bbbbears@reddit
Face is waaaaay too round for a middle part. I had one in middle school and it wasn’t flattering. Side part til I die!

craftyzombie@reddit
Same, I have long hair that I haven't bothered doing daily styling with in years. Love that! If I could pull it off I would, too! Pixies are so cute and bold!
OshetDeadagain@reddit
I didn't even get the memo we were supposed to abandon it! My hair just parts on the side naturally so I just embraced it. I'll part it on the other side if I want to be wild and get more volume.
HermioneMarch@reddit
I missed the memo too
MeasurementOk4544@reddit
Same, I have never had a natural part down the middle. Also, my forehead is massive and my hair is to thin/stringy for bangs. Only lunatics would think one style flatters all or if it doesn't flatter, you should suffer through a fad anyway.
cupcakebean@reddit
Yes! I can't bring myself to go back to the middle part.
HermioneMarch@reddit
Mine still parts on the side. I hadn’t even noticed it was unfashionable
At_the_Roundhouse@reddit
My hair is thinning too much for a middle part and looks horrendous. No chance. Side part all the way.
eternalstar01@reddit
Yep, me too. Even the side part is starting to look a little thin still we're getting close to buzz cut wig territory 😬
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I am trying liquid biotin and noticed an improvement in hair loss! I have considered wearing wigs just to try different styles/colors. Not much brunettes can do with the more fun colors! I did purple accents and it lasted exactly 1 week! 😣
BearCat1478@reddit
I used to middle part. Now can't because that's where most of my gray is strongly living in streak form. Side part hides it just enough to call it highlights bah hahahaha!
Lindsayr28@reddit
Yes and this is my hill I will die on. I will never, ever surrender my deep side part. I look terrible with a center part (and so do a lot of people who now do so bc it’s in fashion).
tacitjane@reddit
Side part strong! Butt cuts be gone.
I also have a couple of bald spots from when a cat bit me in the face as a kid so I don't really have the option.
Side note: skinny jeans. Yes, I prefer bootcuts and flares. They're not readily available in my size. I have to go to the kid's section or Goodwill.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Ouch! Sorry about the cat! That’s terrible!
Least-Task276@reddit
I have to. It's how my natural part is. I have a little chunk of hair on my left side that grows weird, also my face shape in general is better suited for a side part.
chellybeanery@reddit
I recently cut my hair into a blunt bob, and it looks amazing with a middle part, so that's what I'll be rocking for the foreseeable future! 💪
InspectorWorldly7712@reddit
I part in the middle. I couldn’t give three fucks how anyone else parts. Weird post lol

depictionofmood@reddit
I had the middle part up until 5th grade. For 6th grade and on it was side part all the way.
MorePotionPlease@reddit
I tried a center part a few weeks ago. I have to admit, when my long curly hair is down in a center part, I feel like a 70s beach girl in a movie and I look amazing.
Too bad 90% of the time my hair is up. When it's a middle part and up, I look like what I remember my great-grandma looking like when she was 85 and had her long hair tied up in a bun.
NOPE.
Side part 4 Life y'all!
paperscrape@reddit
I parted my hair in the middle when I was in high school, college, and into my 20s. Did a side part in my 30s and into my 40s. I recently embraced the middle part again at age 46 and now I can’t go back to the side part!
OG1999x@reddit
Anyone else part their hair on the side AND in the middle?
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I saw several in the comments that did! Amazing! What sorcery is that? My hair will only go to its right part position!
OG1999x@reddit
That's relieving to know. I've seen ladies mostly commit to one or the other and not going both ways! I think my hair got trained to be able to expect any way. Clips can definitely help. BTW, I've been a side part girl for the last several months due to an awful bangs incident...and my boyfriend likes the side part more.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Oh no! I’m so sorry about the bangs incident, definitely been there many times! Glad you made the side part work for you during the awkward stage!

Side part for life!

westgazer@reddit
My hair just wants to part to the side. I exclusively middle parted my hair growing up and looking back it looks TERRIBLE. Plus now that I have really short hair a middle part makes even less sense.
Sullygurl85@reddit
I part my hair so that it is flattering to my face. I middle parted it through most of high school but the side part works better for my face now. I'll wait out the side part hate.
Maybe_Fine@reddit
I got bullied for having a "butt part" in junior high. Still stings 30 years later so no, I'm not going back.
CleverNothing@reddit
My facial features and head shape arent symmetrical so a middle part emphasizes that. My side part helps balance my appearance.

Um, my hair naturally parts on the side. I couldn't change it even if I wanted to. 🤷♀️ It's been so many years that it actually hurts if I attempt to part it down the middle. Side part for life!

We now are all old enough to have seen this cycle several times.

I have a widow's peak, so I have to. Parting in the middle always felt dorky to me. (and I'm a big nerd)
TheThrivingest@reddit
I part my hair all over the place
ProudParticipant@reddit
Side parts forever. Also, I don't need so much blush that I look sunburnt.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Right?! Looking like toddlers that got into Mama’s makeup bag when she wasn’t looking! 😅
teriaki@reddit
I've gave up the middle part after 6th grade. Because I could tell my mom to cut the shit with the butt style. Side parts 4eva.
rharper38@reddit
My hair does not part in the middle happily or naturally. So It gets parted on the side. If other people can jellyfish their hair or do a mullet, I am Ok eith my choice
FlipFlopsandLipGloss@reddit
I don't do trends that actually make me look older and worse. A middle part makes my big nose and long face look like a horse, so no way am I doing that to myself. I find a lot of young people walking around with flat hair and center parts, or other clothing trends, and it all just looks terrible on them. I'm old enough to realize that you should style for your face and body type, not for trends.
BaBaSmith10@reddit
I have a middle part because of my insane widow's peak, thanks to genetics. Side part looks bad, and I've tried it over the years. Looking back at pictures, the side part does not suit me. I say we all have different face structure so just do what suits you
Proud-Apostate@reddit
Side parts till death!! I HATE middle parts!!
valliewayne@reddit
I will never middle part! Stand strong!
Lost-Cantaloupe123@reddit
I had a middle part for many years to the point my hair dresser would wash my hair and it would just fall in the middle on its own- I’ve settled to the side and haven’t went back
thelaststarebender@reddit
My hair has been parted in the middle since it first came in. There’s no way around it — double cowlicks make it happen on its own. At this point, I don’t think I could change it even it I cared to. Can you imagine: after 44 years with a middle part, I show up somewhere with a side part? People would lose their minds, lol.
ls2gto@reddit
I don’t have double cowlicks, but my hair naturally parts in the middle and always has since day 1. People are talking about changing from a middle part to a side part, but that sounds like witchcraft or something to me because my hair absolutely will not do anything else except a middle part lol.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Totally understand that! You wouldn’t be you!
DonaldoDoo@reddit
Well, I'm a dude, but I've kept my hair long for most of the last 20 years.
And yeah, middle parts look terrible. People don't like the side parts now? Whatever, it's your weirdly framed face. On dudes especially, it makes you look like the greasy bass player in a shitty metal band.
Transplanted_Cactus@reddit
I have my sides shaved fairly high up with all the remaining hair going to one side. It would look extra stupid if parted in the middle. I permed it a couple months ago and it's my favorite hairstyle I think I've ever had. The perm helps hide my hair loss (all the women in my family get it).
coltees_titties@reddit
Side part and winged eyeliner 4eva
miss_six_o_clock@reddit
My mom is German and if I ever parted my hair down the middle she would call it a poposcheidl, or say I had a butt crack on my head. So no, I just can't.
eyelinerqueen83@reddit
I parted in the middle until my early 20s. I parted to the side until two years ago when I cut my bangs. So yeah I am OG middle.
GimmeFalcor@reddit
Middle parts reveal anything non proportional on my face. It’s not flattering for me. It’s also true of everyone else but I don’t judge others as harshly as I judge myself
TuesDazeGone@reddit
Yes!! My daughter (17) has a middle part and tells me I should ditch the side part because it shows my age. Never!!
twentythirtyone@reddit
I have long, straight, black hair. My teenager is trying to convince me a middle part makes me look younger. It does, but in an immature kind of way, like I'm cosplaying elementary school 🙄
Sanchastayswoke@reddit
There’s a diff between a side part… and the millennial deeply swooped side bangs that were popular like 15 years ago.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)

My niece and her friends look great w a middle part. I will stick w the side part for myself.
rvlry13@reddit
I love my middle part because I like the symmetry 😂. But do occasionally switch up to side part for something different.
kashy87@reddit
Even as a long haired guy if I am trying for the day it's side part. Usually though it's however the shit lands.
worker_ant_6646@reddit
My hair doesn't sit flat anymore. I've buzzed and styled it into a mohawk on and off for 20 years, solidly for the last five, it can get to 5inch before it flops, no product, just thick and wavy. The sides are showing greys and I think my new zebra look is fkn rad. I suspect those sturdy greys are bolstering the rest of the 'hawk and keeping it upright!
As for the side part, always. A centre part is like an arrow pointing directly into my soul. Also my moon like face is artfully elongated by my tall hair, but drastically accentuated by a centre part.
PickleFlavordPopcorn@reddit
I’m 41 and frankly confused about the hullabaloo around this. Did older people give two fucks about our opinions on their hair 20-30 years ago? Am I supposed to care now? Why exactly are we even talking about it?
SiftySandy@reddit
I fully subscribe to the school of thought that middle parts only look good on supermodel types with absolutely flawless faces. For the other 99% of us, side parts are way more flattering.
Aeronor@reddit
Middle part only works for certain facial types. Anyone is crazy to say that’s the only good part.
ApocolypseJoe@reddit
My hair, unfortunately, does not give me a choice in this matter....
BigBoxOfGooglyEyes@reddit
My hair refuses any other part after 20+ years of rocking the side part. It's permanently etched onto my head no matter what I do.
Fermifighter@reddit
Yep. I had to work hard to train my hair out of a center part, I’m not going back. I look like an uncanny valley first grader when I center part. Like the female version of Martin Short in Clifford.

FWIW, I work with the public and I still see mostly side parts except in the 22 and under set. I don't need to try to present myself as 20+ years younger.

When I wear my hair down, I just run my fingers through it and let it fall where it wants to. Which generally leaves me looking like Kurt Cobain but 🤷🏻♀️
PizzaDonutCoolness@reddit
I have a small forehead so a middle part makes me look like a troll. I did adjust the placement of my side part (it’s not as deep) but I won’t deviate again!
Legitimate-Produce-1@reddit
I have a side part, but I'd call it more just to the left of center. I never got into the extreme side parting that starts just above the ear. That shit's unnatural.
raikougal@reddit
My Mom would never allow me to part my hair in the middle of fear it would make me look like a fat Wednesday Addams. She wasn't totally wrong either.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)

ParsleyMostly@reddit
Lol I wear both middle and side, mostly side. Largely due to a cowlick. Middle parts were so passé when we were teens, I can see why there’s such a strong aversion to them.

kishbish@reddit
Parting down the middle makes me look like a complete dork. Hell nah, side part for life!
Rin_thepixie@reddit
My hair does nothing but part in the middle. I wanted a side part so badly in high school, an hour into my day, and it'd be in the middle again. My hair just won't do it.
NotHelmut@reddit
I’ve tried side parts, but my hair gets long and heavy fast. I’ve had a middle part for most of my life. Just can’t seem to train my hair any other way long term. Oh well.
Odd_Conversation_114@reddit
This is me, too. Everything else is falling apart on me but have always had fast-growing hair and nails. Hair won't hold a curl or a part other than the middle if you set it with concrete.
TwoBirdsEnter@reddit
Hello, fellow members of the aggressively straight hair club! The side part was never even an option!
NotHelmut@reddit
My hair won’t hold a curl either. Tried to do a spiral perm back in the day and it didn’t take. (In hindsight, it’s probably for the best!)
OracularOrifice@reddit
I 100% part my hair on the side. I don’t look good with a center part.
Mammoth_Ad_4806@reddit
I went through a lot of hair gel in 1989 training that side part, and I am still fully committed. Shoot, I think my scalp would reject a middle part like an organ transplant.
Sweet_Priority_819@reddit
Mine has always been slightly off center. I won't be changing it.

Side part, strong part
willissa26@reddit
I have a cowlick in the front of my head that necessitates a side part to weigh it down. Otherwise I’ve got a crazy hair bump that no amount of styling or product will get rid of.
discoelectro@reddit
Same, I have a cowlick as well right in front and it’s actually gotten worse this year, it’s strange.
blatantregard@reddit
Yeah, my hair refuses the middle part because of my cowlick.
Complete-Library9260@reddit
Side part 4 ever!
gengarcuddles@reddit
I’ve been doing a side part on my left since childhood. I have a massive clockwise whorl on the back left of my head and a centre or right part would be horrendous paired with that. It gives me a natural part line and I like how parting my hair that way compliments my face.
whirlwynd@reddit
My side part is so strong my hair doesn't like any other way. Left side part til the day I die lol
Elle3786@reddit
I gave up parting my hair intentionally when I got old enough for my mom to stop touching it lol! I do still have 3 perfect parts trained in from her obsession with it though! Middle, left, or right and my hair is usually a little in all 3.
If I run my fingers through it at the scalp and shake it out, usually falls to the middle but the idk, it's too symmetrical? I look like an old baby? Not sure, but it I never really liked it parted in the middle. I have tons of wavy red hair, it seems better that it’s just doing its thing
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
Old baby! ☠️🤣Hilarious!

The side part is one of the hallmarks of our micro generation.🤷♀️
FancyOctopodes@reddit
I did the middle part for a year or two there, but it never felt great and as soon as I switched back to a side part I started getting compliments on my hair and realized I look SIGNIFICANTLY better this way. I mean I’m 40 year old, for the most part I’m fine with looking/styling my age!
HeyAQ@reddit
I have a natural side part that won’t be trifled with no matter the tool nor the product. Nature knows who the true ones are.
RaeBethIsMyName@reddit
I honestly don’t give two shits what kids think of my hair. I shave my head and dye it green or purple. No fucks. No shits. No goddamn part.
Mrs_Cupcupboard@reddit
Doing a middle part would require an ability for symmetry that I do not possess. There are easier ways to drive myself nuts lol
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I felt this in my soul. Lol
Little_Peon@reddit
In general, I've parted my hair in the middle since the 90s. Pretty much the only time it changed is when I had very short hair - but by the time it reaches any length, it is back to the middle. I have never been all that trendy and my hair parts here pretty easily. And honestly, most folks see the length before the part - it is around waist length right now. (Long hair is easy and lazy).
Then again, I now wear basically the same thing every day - just black stuff which updates when I need to replace it. And with the current quality of clothing available, it winds up fairly up to date in style since it wears out so quickly.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I wish I could grow very long, luxurious, and “lazy” hair! 😅Slow grower with fine, yet somehow wavy/textured hair here. Hardly grows past shoulders, so weird! I mainly meant people who had a long-time side style and adopted a middle part due to trendiness. Most teen girls/younger generation females I notice have middle parts. Someone commented on the celeb post that the side style was “very millennial” so that prompted this discussion.
Little_Peon@reddit
My grandmother couldn't grow her hair past her shoulders - it just stopped. It isn't that abnormal, honestly.
And to tell you the truth, I don't have particularly thick hair. It was straight when I lived in a humid place, but has some waves now that I live in a mountainous coastal area. It sometimes looks... fluffy?... but any braid or bun is surprisingly small. I also am outside a decent amount during the winter, so need something that'll look good when I take a winter hat off. Even if my hair quit growing at my shoulders, I'd have to have some lazy, simple hair.
(and I have read about side parts being for older folks. I kind of figured that was the source of this)
bcentsale@reddit
I'm a guy whose hair simply departed in my nid-20s 😭😭

bcentsale@reddit
Oh I definitely do, and the wife loves it. I've kept it buzzed to a stubble for almost 15 years, and I'm able to crack jokes at my own expense.
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
This is the way. Let it go! My husband’s hair is thinning and I told him if it gets to a certain point that he’ll have to buzz. We tested a complete buzz during COVID and he was also buzzworthy!

I declared I’d never part my hair on the side in the 90s and then I started doing it by 2001. Now I do both, actually, but with my shag haircut, I look more like Steve Perry if I don’t pin up the back. 😅
BamaSweetie1978@reddit (OP)
I love that you can do both! I’m resigned to my natural right part for eternity.
Steve Perry had iconic hair! It somehow fit him so well in his Journey era.
