I'm really starting to think bikers have to fail an IQ test before being allowed to get their license.

I've been seeing this all over lately, also bikers riding inches from the side of a semi when passing us. Just pure stupidity!
12InchPickle@reddit
I had one go in front of me when I was going down a 8% grade pretty heavy too. Like his lane was empty. Naw. Let’s just slowly slide into the other lane with the big ass truck. Then he goes slower. I swear some people don’t value their life.
ATX_6@reddit
They're getting dumber we'll eventually they'll die down might take a bit.. never had issues with mc but today's generation wants to chance death and eventually luck will run out.. anyways we have blue beacon thank God

You calling someone dumb is ironic considering your heinous grammar.

Seems like every person that passes me going down hill does that regardless of what they're driving.

They need to watch out for themselves.

like everything else these good and bad apples anywhere. but i remember this one guy riding a harley once on 528 in florida, i was in the hammer lane and i made a point to make room for him to get in front and in response he rode up to my passenger window and started flipping me off. okay bud was trying to give you room but fine i closed the space and started ignoring him, and he started tailgating acting like i owed him the road.
never did figure out what his problem was.
sparkythadogg@reddit
Looks like a Harley probably doesn’t have a windshield and is using it to block the wind
Clatuu1337@reddit
Too bad it will also block his forward momentum if the truck has to brake quickly......
sparkythadogg@reddit
What state gave you your license thinking a truck is gonna stop faster than a bike 😂
Remarkable_Film_1911@reddit
A bike driver will still take a second to react to truck slowing, then a moment to actually get on brakes and clutch before they start having effect, and did not see a situation develop ahead.
Vehicle behind always/usually brakes more than the one ahead, because that driver started brake application at least a second after the one ahead.
Anthony_Roman@reddit
a harley rider will take 2 seconds to react to a truck slowing 🤣🤣🤣
DaSaw@reddit
And if you have less than one second of following distance?
Toomuchhorntalk69@reddit
My bikes engine braking will slow me faster than a trucks brakes will slow him. All he has to do is roll off the throttle and he’s already slowing down.
OkinawaNah@reddit
I ride with 3 fingers covering the brake and 3 fingers on the clutch 👌👌 My grip on the handlebars are just my thumb and index finger
https://youtube.com/shorts/7e5j6B6y9GI?si=8M_yrxvyfPQo2oDh
I can definitely stop in time, the only bigger issue is if the truck hits some big road debris that doesn't affect ir much but on a bike could knock you out like random furniture or a whole refrigerator
ayefrezzy@reddit
It would be more about his reaction time at this following distance

On Wednesday I came across one that ended up shutting down 55/70 on the Illinois/Missouri border. I don’t know what caused it, but I know the result was the biker got into a fight with the trailers tandems and lost.
As a trucker, I try to give bikes a wide berth. As a biker, I stay tf away from trucks.
Phraates515@reddit
Your one of the smart ones. I try to do the same for bikers but I can attest that they cut through a lot without proper space.
SuperReleasio64@reddit
Holy shit is that what happened!? I run though 55 all the time jumping from MO to IL and southbound was at a standstill all the way to the I64 interchange.
Dahmer_disciple@reddit
The only thing I could think of was dude was trying to lane split. I was just headed to Chesterfield, so I got to see the carnage on the way back to IL. If his bike was any sign of how things went, he wasn’t in pain for very long.
SuperReleasio64@reddit
I hate to say it but with how stupid these people drive in St. Louis I'm not surprised someone died at the 55/70 split. It seems like once people go past exit 4 for 203 they drive so much more aggressively. A couple of times I had to literally shove people out of my way because I needed to get on 44 and since everyone does 80 in that 50mph section I basically became a rolling roadblock and no one would let me in. People need to chill tf out in St. Louis.
Dahmer_disciple@reddit
100%. That whole area is just nuts, both directions even. If I can, I try to time it where there’s not going to be much traffic, but it doesn’t always work out. My shipper is flakey. Very flakey. Loads used to be ready the day before, so leaving at 2-3am to get there at like 6am was easy. Now I’m lucky if they’re ready by 6am the day of.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I give trucks and bikers more space, trucks have big blind spots and bikers are vulnerable

I hate all bikers. Even the rare few that shock me by following the rules.
I've had too many to count change lanes right on my bumper because it's funny or something
MilkrsEnthuziast@reddit
The ones that make my heart skip and literally gasp is when they rip up the right side of your rig as you're getting pinched in a merge or passing an on ramp.
Yahoo, your bike is so fast I don't have time to see you in my mirrors until I see you screaming past me in a dangerous spot. That's gonna work until the time it doesn't
yamaslama@reddit
I drive truck and also ride motorcycles. I will wait for a car to be fully passed a semi before I’ll even think about over taking one. As soon as the car clears I get by as quick as possible. The last place I want to be is anywhere near a 24.5” tire when it blows at highway speed.
CarterMT099@reddit
I had a motorcycle thread the needle between me and another car once.
He had a sticker on the back that said “watch out for motorcycles.”
OkinawaNah@reddit
I ride between cars and trucks everyday...for the past 15 years. It is my responsibility to pass and expect cars to cut me off because they're not expecting a bike moving 10-20 cars a second to fly past

Eternal_Moose@reddit
It's your responsibility to drive recklessly and needlessly endanger lives?
OkinawaNah@reddit
It's legal. That's why my CDL is clean.
Eternal_Moose@reddit
"It's legal." You sound like you leave your shopping cart in the parking spot.
OkinawaNah@reddit
Just like walking into a store with an ID is legal to buy, consume and possess cannabis/marijuana but in other "freedom" states the cops would call in a SWAT team and tackle you, impound your car etc for having it.
Eternal_Moose@reddit
That's because it's still legal according to federal law. Individual states have legalized it. That doesn't make it completely legal. A good example of legality not being a good standalone point.
OkinawaNah@reddit
Not sure how or what this has to do with lane splitting is legal and encouraged by all highway patrol, county sheriff, city cops.
Lots of police motorcycles lead the pack in the mornings with +10 other bike commuters behind them. Cars move over where they can since the shoulder is open.
Only time it's dangerous is when there's freeway construction and there's concrete barriers on both shoulders then you should split if you can get in front without cutting off a car. Essentially you have your own motorcycle lane if you maintain the lane splitting position.
Hundreds of other countries lane split especially in Asia. Population density and gridlock traffic is the primary motivation to get a motorcycle.
AmbitiousAnalyst2730@reddit
It’s legal in several states if under a certain speed. It’s great in stop and go traffic. But scary as hell, I bet
CarterMT099@reddit
Your funeral 🤷🏼♂️
As much as I’m looking out for everyone, I can’t see you very well at night when there’s cars next to me and suddenly out of nowhere here comes a motorcycle threading the needle at highway speeds.
OkinawaNah@reddit
15 years. Clean CDL. I have a few extremely bright strobe lights, people can see me up to 1083 meters away. I have had honks in the daytime mostly for my lights because I am steadily coming down 20 cars away and they are moving over for me.
https://youtu.be/XPqjHUbldqs?si=VCnfFGvfyQ7H5ujt
If you can't "see" this you might as well be blind. I have strobed a few cops on accident but I turned it off quickly and they also move over for me.
I lane split between miles of semi trucks everyday day and night, there's traffic up til 9PM-10PM especially Fridays...
I live outside a major truck route that goes through a residential area. I also have 2 horns hooked up to a 40 amp relay. Most bikes are only 3 amps - 5 amps. 40 amps is a lot of power more than enough to kill someone.
Hurricaneshand@reddit
I've had a few people from high school die in motorcycle accidents. As sad as it is the way I get dudes driving those things I'm honestly shocked it doesn't happen more. It's really tough to feel as bad as I should when all I think about when I hear about a motorcyclist death I just think of all the times some moron has decided to weave through traffic going 20+ more mph
Capital_Culture2677@reddit
I seen the aftermath of a bike crash after he hit the back end of a semi truck with a gravel trailer in North Dakota the police said the bike was 80 mph and it wasn’t good. I don’t know what it is when someone gets on a motorcycle it seems like they loose common sense and you’re not going to change my opinion on this. I have a CDL and I hate interacting with motorcycles

Everyone's all pissed off about this... 10 bucks says FedEx doesn't even know he's back there.
Commiefornian@reddit
That’s part of why. Can’t even hope to do something about it. Traffic firms up in front of FedEx or someone cuts him off, he brakes, that motorcycle is hitting the trailer before the motorcyclist knows what’s happening, and the FedEx driver doesn’t even find out about it until he gets to his destination and sees a bunch of scratches and some teeth on the tailgate.
Glum_Comfort_3675@reddit
I'll just say that a certain type of person is attracted to the idea of riding a vehicle that provides no protection from dying instantly and violently on the road.
Red_Sox0905@reddit
I was in my car one time and going down a two lane road, biker riding my ass for no reason, close enough I couldn't see his entire headlight. At the intersection it becomes 3 lane and he goes flying by, wearing a bright green watch for motorcycles shirt.

Flat-House5529@reddit
The term is 'drafting'.
It's a practice of using a vehicle in front of you to drastically reduce your wind resistance, and using the vacuum caused by the leading vehicle to pull you along. It's frequently done in NASCAR, cycling and a few other racing sports. It would also drastically improve the MPG the bike is getting, it's probably using fuel at about one third the normal rate. The physics behind it is pretty astonishing.
While it is potentially quite hazardous (obviously), the practice is still used by quite a few folks in areas where sudden stops are less likely.
Toomuchhorntalk69@reddit
Mythbusters tested this. Drafting a semi has a negligible effect on your fuel economy.
Flat-House5529@reddit
Oh?
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
Nah. Bikers don’t have a monopoly on stupid. And remember you have to have a cager license before you can get a motorcycle endorsement so the stupid factor has to be higher on cagers by default.
Psilologist@reddit
When I was 18 I used to ride street bikes. We would split semis on the highway while we doing 100 mph. I think I had a negative IQ at the time. That's not even the dumbest shit I did on a street bike. Now I'm a OTR driver cussing people like I used to be.
Swaytastic@reddit
I saw a bike riding a civics bumper at 1 am on a 4 lane highway last week and couldn't figure out why he was doing it. He stayed there for literally 7 miles before I lost sight of the two. His headlight was working too. I don't understand it.
TripleTrucker@reddit
I wouldn’t get that close to FedEx Ground with a tank
NitroBike@reddit
On one hand , I do try to be understanding of motorcyclists and give them plenty of space if they split lanes (I’m in CA so it’s legal). On the other hand, there’s a lot of dipshits who use that law to try and take their wide-ass Harley’s with bags sticking off the sides through two lanes and then end up smashing mirrors or almost losing their balance.

SnooDoubts8057@reddit
You sure its only bikers? OK, Harley riders can be pretty annoying but lifted pickup drivers are worse.
strgwhlhldr@reddit
As both a trucker and a rider, I really wish I could convince my fellow riders to stay the hell away from trucks.
Rode for 11 years before getting my CDL and wouldn’t hang out near a semi for any reason. Doubly so after getting my CDL. All it takes is a tire deciding to let go (among the many, many, MANY other things that could happen) and the bike loses quickly. Mud flap decides it’s had enough? Yeah, OUCH. A rock getting kicked up by the edge of the tire? It quickly becomes a flesh-impaling missile…or leather-impaling one, for that matter. And riding that close to the back end of the trailer, well, if the truck has to lock up all axles to avoid plowing into someone else, the bike quickly ends up in the DOT bumper because of this thing we call reaction time.

I just got my motorcycle endorsement, and tanker x hazmat

Had two bikers call me retarded in Tacoma a month ago for going 50 in an exit lane for a mile while there was backed up traffic to our left lanes.
Had them ride my ass the whole way, but here I was thinking they're just doing that so a car pulls out, it'll be in front of me, not them. Nope. They just wanted to go 70 in a 60 while people were jumping into our exit lane to escape traffic.
No sympathy for them. I actually pray for the day they become donors themselves lmao and props to the good motorcyclists out there.

I ride on the lane dividers because that's how I was taught to ride before I ever got my license. I also drive semi trucks. Guess what? It's legal and expected that bikes are splitting lanes because there's no reason why bikes should spend 1 hour in the same 5 mile traffic jam everyday. I have been commuting everyday in traffic on a motorcycle for 15 continuous years.
mcmain4@reddit
Lane splitting is fine, im just talking about when bikers form up side by side on the interstate and the inside biker is a inch away from the divider passing people 70+mph. Literally just trying to kill yourself
OkinawaNah@reddit
I wouldnt know I dont ride in groups. I ride to get to work to drive a semi truck because local work barely gives you 11 hours off sometimes they give you 9 hrs 50 mins off and you have to wait in the truck for the ELD to clear you for your 10 to start your pretrip. I ride so I can sleep in more going home earlier than all the cars.
mcmain4@reddit
That's smart. One time I accidentally went above 5mph moving on the yard when I was 1 minute away from finishing my 10😭
Toahpt@reddit
I was once out on my bike, coming up to a stop light behind a semi. I stopped a ways behind him with my foot on the center white line. He waved to me, so it was really nice having a truck driver acknowledge that I was staying in a spot where he could see me in his mirror and that he did see me.

Driving through Colombus or Cincinnati a few weeks ago about 10pm and this dip sh*t on a hog is in 2/4 lanes he'd maneuvered into and up to a 5axle van in 3/4 who decided to graciously move back to 2/4 and he signals and signals and signals and you'd think this bike in his blind spot would have the driver's accommodating privilege to speed up, or move over, or something. And I'm behind then watching this guy who thinks that just because he's on a bike the physical blindspot as depicted on so many billboards, mudflaps and, heck, TV ads didn't apply to him. And only after he's forced to move did he sped up, get in front of the truck and brake check him. POS. And this truck signaled long enough where any obstinate 4 wheeler would've made himself known at the least.
