Jels76@reddit
Upgraded mine this year. Ryzen 5 5600 and a 4070 Super. I love it š
Sloth-TheSlothful@reddit
I had that setup too, before I felt guilty and returned the 4070s :(
Might see if there are any sales for black friday
Much_Anything_3468@reddit
This year I went through the process of upgrading it bit by bit. Replaced a b450 with a b550, a Ryzen 3 2200g with a Ryzen 5 5600, an rx480 with an rx6600 then an rx6750xt. And of course, 8GB to 16GB (3200MTs) as well as upgrading to an NZXT H6 Flow case. Loving it for 1440p.
yobyexe@reddit
I snagged a 7800x3D 4090 Aorus Xtreme water cooled build off marketplace for 2k few weeks ago. Have been loving it since I upgraded. Managed to sell my old build for 1200 so very happy. Wish I wouldāve built it myself but I loved finding that deal locally
Fair-Inevitable4865@reddit
I built mine Last year after using the old one for 7 years. With it's RTX 4070 it is very fast. But well, I'm 33 years old, work a lot and have two children. I'm gaming aproximately once a week for two hours. And when I'm gaming I play the same old Games, I played with my old PC. But I regret nothing. :)
Final_Wait635@reddit
I basically rebuilt mine a few days ago, but the power supply is failing me (I've had the PSU for a couple of years now), so I'm a bit annoyed by it, but whenever it's been up and running, I've been happy with my RTX 3070+Ryzen 9 5900x, and 32GB of RAM paired up with a nice mech keyboard, Glorious Model O wireless, and dual daily driver monitors (3440x1440p HDR + 1080p, both curved and with 144hz + Freesync) and a few CRTs (for older games and TV shows) for the past few years. When it's running on all cylinders it's a great PC for my needs.
mike_seps@reddit
Which one? I have the main gaming rig with a decent build - 5800x, 32gb ram, 4080S, 2tb game drive, or the plex machine with 20tb of space, or the vm running home assistant. Or the laptop and Ally for when Iām on the road for work (which is a lot).
Answer - I love them all for reasons. Plex may need an update, though. Havenāt messed with it for some time now.
travelavatar@reddit
Not really enjoying it
I will only list upgrades
Built in 2019
CPU: ryzen 9 3900X > ryzen 7 5700X3D GPU: rx 580 > vega 64 > 3070ti FE Storage: some storage > tons of storage Psu: 750W gold > 1200W platinum
Monitor: 1080p 60hz > 1080p 144hz > 1440p 170hz.
Two things dissapoint.
Monitor not being an oled. I am thinking of upgrading again or wire an hdmi and usb to downstairs tv.
GPU is a dumpster fire. Very hot, very loud, bad performance and 8GB vram. What a fucking scam....
Anyway.... idk what to do man.i tried oled and i am unhappy with IPS...
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
Have you tried cleaning/ repasting the gpu?
travelavatar@reddit
Did this day one. Its just the FE. Don't wanna open it up because of its design and torx screws....
I don't plan to keep it for longer than another year so i don't want to be bothered by a buyer because i opened it.
I found some people in the group i am buying/selling stuff that look at a card as having less value if it has been opened...
I looked through the fins the card is clean. Like i said, it has been doing this since the beginning...
Maybe i should actually open it and reapply paste and pads, as I've seen some horror stories with 3080 FEs having the pads applied VERY wrong...
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
Hey pal, I had a 3070ti for 2 years now and had horrible temps ( 83c on load ) and it was pretty noisy and I finally took the plunge to opent it and check the paste. Could not separate the fan wires so I had to repaste in a less then good fashion but I did it and now my cards sits a 60 on load. Its really 6 screws and cleaning the cooler and cpu plate with 99% isopropyl alcohol and then repaste ( make sure to cover all the die with the paste and then re sit the thang.)
I know it can be intimidating but It feels good now because the card acts like brand new and is super quiet.
Let me know if you want some pointers.
travelavatar@reddit
Was it the FE card? I know those are a pain to open.
I will open it on Thursday when i work from home and check. If it gets good temps and its not noisy anymore i do not want to upgrade yet. Because for my use case is good enough even if it cannot do high settings on heavy vram games. Im fine if it does 60fps on medium with dlss
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
Mine is a gigabyte edition.
Im sure you could find the procedure for your card on youtube!
travelavatar@reddit
I see.. yes not a problem...
Personally i did open tons of cards before so shouldn't be an issuem but those were AIB.
This 3070ti its metal shiny AF.. so last time i took the magnets off the screws.... i scratched it... šŖ i need to be careful.
I took the magnets off hoping i will take it apart. And surprise!!! Torx screws. I ordered the screwdriver but i didn't have the time for another attempt and forgot about it
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
You got this, Id prefer a card thats silent with a scatch over a scatchless one that runs like a oven š
travelavatar@reddit
Runs like an oven, sounds like a jet engine. Besides the case fans are also going wild trying to cool off the case...
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
I had the same issue day one, I had to undervolt to manage the issue but the card was still hitting 83 degrees.. the repaste dusting off really fixed the issue!
I dont miss that jet engine noise haha
Itchy_Equipment_@reddit
Two years on and still really enjoying it. I paid probably too much for it back then (prices were only just coming down), but thatās fine. RX 6700XT / i5 12400F build.
Fit_Remote_1307@reddit
I build my pc two years ago. I got myself a nice I5 12600k with a noctua cooler, 3070 ti (used), 1terabytes nvme and 32 gigs of Ram.
Funny thing is that the gpu was operating very hot (83c)so this weekend I finally take matters in my own hands and repasted it and dust it off and now it sits at a nice 60 c :). Took me 2 years to fix this xD.
Comming from a 1060 and a I7 1490k it is night and day.
Every cod session is super smooth now and finally the card is quiet ( had to undervolt to manage the issue before the repaste)
Szorrin@reddit
Congrats!
I've been using this PC for the last 10 years and I expect to finish my new build tomorrow.
Hoping to be similarly impressed.
superamigo987@reddit
That's nice. What parts, what are you going from?
Szorrin@reddit
Current build is an i7-4790k with a 1050 Ti and 16gb of very slow DDR3 RAM.
New build is a 7800X3D, 4080S, and 32gb DDR5 (6000Mhz cl30).
Just waiting for the vertical GPU mount to arrive tomorrow, because trying to mount the GPU the normal way wasn't playing nice with this case (NZXT H9 Flow).
Subiedude240@reddit
Holy shit thatāll be a huge inprovement
Szorrin@reddit
I just finished building it and setting everything up.
It really is as different as night and day, I'm as giddy as a schoolboy!
Subiedude240@reddit
Also howās the vertical gpu mount? Cards are getting a bit chunky and Iām not tryna break one in transport
Szorrin@reddit
I'm using the Vertical Graphics Card Holder Kit V3 from Cooler Master (because I've seen quite a few complaints about NZXT's own vertical mount). It was easy to install and there's no sagging.
My one complaint is that it wobbles a bit when the case is moved, but not too much.
Subiedude240@reddit
Gotcha, not like Iām moving it constantly but for when I get a better card itād be nice to have
Subiedude240@reddit
Happy for u! Enjoy it gang

Another similar setup getting 100+ , copy his settings ?
ijustneedtotype@reddit
Similar build here. i7 4770k, 980Ti, and probably the exact same ram lol.
Keeping an eye out for a good upgrade that won't break the bank as I'm unable to even play CS:2 at more than 60fps on low settings 720p!
0nlythebest@reddit
Hmm that's doesn't sound right, 4770k+980ti should be able to run CS2 at 1080p 60fps high settings , 980ti is still somewhat capable.. it's faster than the 1070 and on par with a 2060. CS2 is pretty easy to run right ? I mean CS1 is extremely easy to run. 980ti would get 144fps 1080p on cs. Is CS2 that much more demanding ?
ijustneedtotype@reddit
CS2 is significantly more demanding than CSGO, yeah. High settings on CSGO, 1080p gives more frames than low settings, lower res on CS2. Was confirmed in a recent mythbusting video on YouTube
ijustneedtotype@reddit
Also mirrors my experience as I'd get about 200-300 fps in CSGO with higher settings too
0nlythebest@reddit
https://youtu.be/XbMdv-QbHPE?si=kyqDh8hiDpWjAhI7
0nlythebest@reddit
Oh wow, well good on them for upgrading CS2 that much. Cuz CS1 looks like shit lol
brooleyythebandit@reddit
What was wrong?
I have H9 flow now with a 4070 super but have been debating going to a 4080 siper
Szorrin@reddit
I don't know if the 4080S is much larger than the 4070S, but the one I got (PNY) sits too close to the glass panel, causing the panel to push very hard against the 12VHPWR cable. I'm scared it might cause damage. An angled adapter was another option, but after reading about some horror stories of them melting, I decided to go for a vertical mount instead.
Grammarnazi_bot@reddit
Itās SO fast cheese n rice. I was just playing GTA 5 at 1440p at 165hz and my goodness what a graphical experience that is
Wisemagicalhags@reddit
just upgraded mine last week. went from an i7 10700k and 5600xt to a 5700x3D and 7800xt. also picked up a 1440p 240hz monitor
BidenSucksKock@reddit
13700k/4070ti w/32gb. 1.5 years and I'm really happy.
leftwheel303@reddit
Iām trying to sell mine,
Donāt get me wrong PC gaming/ Productivity is great but I personally built it to sell, as I have to much stuff so I basically bought pc parts to fill my older case.
Gold-Judgment-6712@reddit
Mine is 8 years old and useless for new demanding games. So not much.
PacketLoss-Indicator@reddit
Same boat here, rocking GTX 1080 and i7-7700k, hopefully I'l upgrade one day
kanakalis@reddit
i had a pc with a gpu from 14 years ago and 10 year old cpu... now i've got a 6700xt paired with 5900x which still doesn't run my games at a stable 60fps lol
ThanksEmbarrassed474@reddit
Idk anything about AMD cards (bought mine on a sale because Nvidia card prices were still wack when I checked) how much more powerful it is, but I have a single 6800xt and it has no problem playing games 60+ fps on max settings in 1440p. Iām sure the 6700xt canāt be THAT much worse can it?
ChiefBig420@reddit
No one is running two GPUs. Thatās a cpu and gpu.. both sound similar nowadays I agree but just letting u kno..āš¼
ThanksEmbarrassed474@reddit
whoops! I blame AMD for that one. Thanks for pointing that out lmao
ChiefBig420@reddit
If you look away for more than a minute or two you get out of touch. Things are progressing so fast and pc tech evolving super fast nowadays which is good for us, but not good for trying to remember what parts are called. When I tell people (non pc folk) about my PCs they just look dumbfounded lol, so no worries really. I do it all the time.. try learning Intels new naming system. Itās nutz
AlphaDawg0914@reddit
you should be able to run every game in 1080p max settings and even dabble in 1440p with that setup
vaurapung@reddit
But consoles play in 4k. With the equivalent of a 6700. Hmm..?
AlphaDawg0914@reddit
consoles are optimised heavily and use upscalers. if you don't know what that means, consoles run it at 1440p (2k) and use ai to put more pixels in between. in reality the consoles performance aren't great
vaurapung@reddit
Ah, but they don't. They use chroma subsampling which means they give you full 4k of pixels for lighting but only the color is provided for 1 of every 4. I've been trying to find the chroma settings on pc to run 4:2:0 but pc seems to be bound to 4:4:4 sampling.
Chroma subsampling at 4:2:0 is better than upscaling 4:4:4 1440p.
AlphaDawg0914@reddit
dang that console 4k question seemed like you didn't know much about pcs but my bad
vaurapung@reddit
I've been stumped trying to get my rx6600 to play no man's sky as good as my old xbox one x. I got better load times with a ssd drive but my pc kept dropping frames in 4k but looked very pixilated in 1440p.
So lots of reading. Now I'm building my new pc with a 7900 gre. My goal is simply smooth 4k equal to a consoles since I big screen game.
It will cost all together almost 3 times as much as my series x so I hope it's worth it.
AlphaDawg0914@reddit
then why not just get a console? if your targeting console performance just get one. get a 1080p system on the side if you need to
vaurapung@reddit
Lol. I ask my self this many times. Mostly because it's games don't come out on consoles anymore.
But the driving force now is knowing that optical drives may not be a part of any next gen consoles.
kanakalis@reddit
not flight sim nor truck sim. the only game that my gpu handles well is monster hunter and minecraft. and this is 1080p.
AlphaDawg0914@reddit
the 6700xt is a high end 1080p gpu. i don't know about those games but in every other triple a game it can run really well and it has 12gb vram (i have a 1050 š)
kanakalis@reddit
i'm playing on low/med settings for msfs and still can't maintain 30fps. and my vram usage pushes 12gb in cities at low altitudes. the game's just built different
as for truck sim i've got a ton of paid graphic mods and truck mods...
Sbarty@reddit
Any reason for the 5900X over a 5700X3D or 5800X3D? I could understand if you have productivity / editing / etcĀ
kanakalis@reddit
iirc it was a bundle. needed the 12gb vram of the 6700xt and my old motherboard only supported up to intel 4th generation so i had to buy a new
Sbarty@reddit
Well, regardless, the 5900X is still an excellent CPU.
LunarRaven7@reddit
What games are those? Whats the resolution too?
kanakalis@reddit
1080p microsoft flight simulator, american/euro truck simulator with modded graphics, gtav with modded graphics, cyberpunk no mods
LunarRaven7@reddit
Weird, The rx 6700 xt should be more than enough.
MCMFG@reddit
Weird, I've got a 5800X3D and 6700XT but my machine handles everything I've tried (~300 games, I have 26TB of storage lmao) at max settings without ever dipping below 60 FPS (except Cyberpunk 2077).
Sbarty@reddit
5800X3D is much better for gaming than a 5900X
kanakalis@reddit
do you happen to run microsoft flight simulator or american/euro truck simulator
Ghune@reddit
Mine is a 4790 from almost 10 years ago. I don't play games and I have Linux on it so it's pretty fast for what I'm using it for.
I would play games I would need a new one.
Symbian_Curator@reddit
I also still have a 4790(K). For productivity tasks it's really showing its age, but for gaming it's holding up much better than I'd expect from a 10 year old chip. Well... I plan to upgrade to Ryzen in 6 months or so, then the old man can finally rest.
Ghune@reddit
Funny, I am thinking about the same thing. I don't play on it, but a simple APU would be perfect for me.
lol420noscope@reddit
I have a 5820K. it's old by PC standards, can't play the newest games, but it's solid as a rock.
nervomelbye@reddit (OP)
damn bro, time to upgrade
R3xz@reddit
My current PC is from 2017 and I originally built it as a budget gaming rig with a 1060. Still loving it tbh because it can still play all my favorite games just fine, there are some hiccups here and there every now and then (GPU bottleneck'd), but for the most part she does the job well enough that I can't justify getting rid of her yet.
For the record the CPU is a 7600k and I originally OC'd it to 4.8 ghz and it ran stable for many nears. Recently had to lower it to 4.6 because I wanted to see a couple more years out of it, since once I upgrade I will pass the PC on to my baby cousin.
-Pruples-@reddit
Yeah...my laptop played everything until about 1 year ago. It's an old Asus G752VSK from 2016 (I bought it used in 2017). The I7-7820HK and 1070 lasted pretty damned well, but yeah last year I finally had a game it wouldn't play. I wasn't planning on replacing it yet, despite it finally being too old, except about 2 weeks ago the SSD started failing and I decided to pull the trigger on building a desktop.
Balla_Calla@reddit
At least there's still thousands of good games you can still play. Doesn't matter when they come out.
LTareyouserious@reddit
Catch up on that back log before upgrading!Ā
Clean_Perception_235@reddit
This subreddit was just randomly recommended to me by reddit and judging from the comments, mine sucks. I don't have a desktop, only a laptop and it runs on integrated graphics lol
Digger977@reddit
Love mine but hate the heat it creates lol. 3080 and a 12th Gen i7 loves to become space heaters
Ronzonius@reddit
I've been having sporadic crashes since I first built it... and have been replacing parts of it on and off for about 7 years. It would be fine for another few months and then same freezing with screeching sound coming from the monitor speakers.
Bit the bullet and bought a new power supply,, motherboard, and processor and installed it yesterday. I'm enjoying it now.
Eccentric_Milk_Steak@reddit
I love my pc! EVGA 3080ti, 12900k Samsung G5 165hz, Run modt titles mqxed out at 1440p only thing that's annoying is no dlss with frame gen but hopefully fsr implementation will be the norm in most modern games
santa-claws9@reddit
I built it in covid so around 4 years old. Decent configuration and can play most of the new games in 1080p. I am satisfied with it and I play games on it almost everyday which answers the enjoyment part.
My configuration is also slightly future proof in terms of upgrades so I think I can upgrade some parts and can enjoy it for another 4 5 years without any issues.
I assume it is of good recent specs since you just finished building it. I would suggest to utilize it best and enjoy most out of it as eventually over time it will be older configuration and struggle with newer games.
Sea_Seaworthiness189@reddit
I have a 5800X3D, 4080 Super, 32gb Ram, 2.5tb storage. If I'm being honest, I had a 3060 before and I only felt the 4080 upgrade was worth it after I upgraded my monitor. With the monitor upgrade I feel like it's a pretty crazy setup and am blown away by how good everything looks.
menkavo@reddit
I built my first ever PC 2 weeks ago and I'm loving it.
I'm running a 12700k (was too scared to go near any 13th or 14th gen cuz of the whole issue they had/have) on a z790, 32gb of ddr5 ram, 1 tb of ssd and a 4060 (initially wanted to grab a 3060 but the price was exactly the same as the 4060 where I live so got that instead).
at first I wanted to get a 27 inch 120/144 Hz monitor because I was thinking that I really didn't need more but just like my 4060, the monitor I got which is 27 inch, 180 Hz was also the same price as the monitors I've been seeing so I got the 180 Hz.
But the part I really enjoyed was assembling it. took a minute but absolutely worth it!

colonelniko@reddit
Itās all relative! I spent months saving up for a 770 back in high school and that 4060 absolutely smokes the shit out of it. I mean fuck itās better than my old 2080, cheaper, more features, more efficient.
Wasnāt long ago we were happy to get 1080p 60fps with a top of the line card.
bifowww@reddit
I built mine 3 years ago. It's still enough for me and I would change the GPU just to get cooler one (92Ā°C peak currently at 100% load). Ryzen 5 5600, 32GB RAM, TRX 3060 12GB and I play a lot of games and do a lot of 3D modeling recently. I bought MSI A850G PSU a year ago for "future upgradeability" because I had a lot of savings and found a cool deal for 70ā¬ new. Time ticks and I still don't plan to change my system for AM5 or faster GPU.
BarberMiserable6215@reddit
Is the 4060 faster than a 2080? For real?
colonelniko@reddit
basically the same if not a teeny bit faster but i mean still, way cheaper and has all that new fancy 4000 series technology / way better ray tracing
Bernie51Williams@reddit
If you were in high school for a 770 then ya it was a very long time ago when we were chasing 1080p 60. On the 7 series nvida cards I was 1440 85hz.
1080 for pc was left behind 20 years ago. It just happened to be affordable.
IbanezCharlie@reddit
I know I bought the Asus rog 1440p 144hz monitor when I still had two 770s. Definitely upgraded when the 9 series came out though to push that thing.
colonelniko@reddit
I vividly remember people struggling to max out battlefield 4 at 1080p with 700 series cards. Me included. 780ti barely barely stayed above 60 at 1440p.
Yea thatās playable but hardly accessible. 780ti back then although way cheaper than a 4090 today, was looked at the same way as the 4090. Most people back then just wanted to get 60 at 1080p, 1440p was for ārichā kids with 780tis and eventually trickled down.

Got a dual fan evga rtx 3060ti + i7 10700kf, since it's all i could afford during the post covid GPU price hikes. Thought it wouldn't be enough for games years later, and I stand corrected. This thing somehow runs Wukong mostly maxed out with minimum 60 fps. I see no reason to upgrade as it runs everything I throw at it with more than adequate performance at 1440p.

Tried to build my first one last weekend. Couldn't get it to POST no matter what troubleshooting I did. Panicked and thought I bent the mobo pins (it's AM5 socket) and tried to adjust them manually and re-seat CPU. Pins were initially fine but me adjusting actually bent them, and re-seating damaged the back of the CPU. Still trying to emotionally recover and seeing if I can get any money back for CPU or mobo... still have no idea why it didn't POST in the first place. Hard lesson learned =(

I built my new pc last year. Asus TUF case, with tuf mobo and gpu. Ryzen 7 7700x 7900XT 32gb 6800mhz ddr4, 3x Gen4 Nvme, 1tb boot/personal cloud storage, 2tb apps, 4tb games. TUF 360 aio. Pc is quiet, cool and blazing fast. Paired with a AW 32" OLED and 1200x1920 touchscreen panel for my system monitor with custom ui using Aida64.
Then I installed shelves above my desk to hold my tower and ran wire channels for cable management.
Now that I'm happy with the tower up on the shelf I'm thinking about punching some 2" holes at the shelf and below my desk to completely hide the wires.
I originally had a 4070ti and 240 aio, but the 4070 had a crazy delta on the Hotspot. Like 15c... Also my cpu ran a little higher than I liked. When I first built asus didn't offer the tuf aio in 360. If I had waited I would have gotten the 4070ti super...
I just wish there was a better solution for the io on back of tower to give the wires a cleaner look. For now I just have a picture frame there to hide it.
Congrats on your pc OP! It's always a nice feeling to upgrade to newer, faster pc!

I generally love my PC, but PC gaming in general can be a headache, even with troubleshooting/Google experience. Random issues that don't seem to plague other people such as: stutters, frame drops (even with powerful PC), CTDs, etc.
These issues are amplified when a new game drops that you've been waiting for and they have all the above rolled into one, so you're forced to tough it out.
Even issues outside of gaming can have you pulling hair. Recently, I've had BSODs after my entire PC freezes for a while. From searching for Nvidia driver failures, my RAM, GPU, and a few other things could be dying so there's no real telling what. At least it's a really rare BSOD, so I just ignore it.

Built a new PC early this year. 7800X3D, 32GB Ram, fast NVME 2TB, GPU is a AMD 7900XT. Dual 144Hz 27" monitors.
Most of my time for the past months I have been gaming in the living room on my TV with a mini PC.
My gaming has been shifting through the years. Way less care about high resolution, framerates, ultra settings. Now I just want to play something at whatever is reasonable, don't care.
beirch@reddit
Dude I'm in the exact same position. Just bought a new 65" LG C3 during summer sales, and I find myself using my media center PC with the TV all the time instead of my main PC. Almost feel a little bad for it.
Ervinusinka@reddit
If you dont care about that, why didnt u just get a console?
vaurapung@reddit
Maybe they already have a steam library. Just like I didn't want pc for years because I already have a xbox library that would cost about 20000 dollars to rebuy at 30 dollars a game. But instead I just pay 15 bucks a month, used to be less so for over a decade of gaming on Xbox it costed me 1500 dollars to get nearly 500 games for free(I missed a few gwg).
Epic is the only one I know that gave games away but usually it was the same games I could get with gwg. Sure it was truly free but epic didn't give me every xbox ported star wars game for free including star wars episode 1 podracer that I loved playing on the n64.
People say pc gaming is cheaper but in reality for collectors and library builders it's not much if any cheaper. And hardware cost more to buy and more to upgrade than consoles refresh prices, granted xbox has done a great job with backwards compatibility that makes owning a library of disc games worth it. For now...
I building my new pc because it sounds like xbox is ditching the disc drive and with that they ditched a large portion of my library for the next gen console. But my xbox og and 360 and one and series x still all boot and play any games from library that I want.

GarrettB117@reddit
Same card here! Itās a beast. I have an optical HDMI that Iāve run from my office to the living room, so I can switch over to that and play in the living room. I have enough parts to build a 3070 system in my living room, but I havenāt bothered since I can use my main PC out there pretty easily.
beirch@reddit
Bought a 7900GRE as an upgrade from my 3070 and loved it. Great performance for the price.
Then I bought a new TV a couple months later (65" LG C3 for $1300 btw, practically a steal) and got a used 3060Ti for my media center PC, and now I find myself spending pretty much all my time on my TV.
I feel a little bad for my other PC, but I'll probably return to it soon for stuff like Wukong. The 3060Ti isn't quite up to it at 4K, even with medium settings and DLSS. It might also have something to do with the i5 9400F and 16GB of DDR4 2666mhz, so that's the next upgrade I'm getting. I want AM5 though so I have an upgrade path for my other PC, but it's still a little expensive to justify.
All in all very happy, and I love to tinker with PCs, so I'm looking forward to upgrading down the line.

Wish it was better honestly, but I can't afford it.
I had an old 980ti build that I made like... More than a decade and a half ago now that bit the dust when one of the components died spectacularly and killed nearly everything it was connected to at the same time.
I barely scraped the money together to get a similar level system put together so I could continue my day-to-day using slightly more modern components (a 2060 Super build now) with hardly any performance gain. It runs about the same strength as my old 980ti build, just uses less wattage to do it.
I'd really like to swap out the components with stronger, more modern components so I could enjoy my games more, but alas. Money is hard to get in sufficient quantity.

90% in love with it.Ā
No regrets about most of it. 4090 was a bit of a splurge, but i had a coworker who wanted my old PC and was willing to pay for it if and only if I kept the 3080 in there. So was actually a bit of a wash. Maybe a bit uncomfortable with the 13900K considering recent Intel woes. But love the case I went with, and I cackle at the 10TB across 4 NVME slots on it currently (do a ton of video/ photo editing). The case in particular I really like, Corsair 5000T. It was pricey but man it looks good and I got it on sale.
Only real solid complaint is I went for fast RAM. 2x32gb of 6600 C32. Was getting a ton of game crashes and other problems, and occasional system crashes or BSOD. After trouble shooting, I just turned XMP off entirely. Itās annoying, but truth be told Iām not sure I notice. Maybe Iāll get around to manual timing but at the moment Iām content.Ā
Oh also my cable management was ass. I was tired after putting in all the fans and just said fuck it. Tucked them in the back and just forced the back panel closed. Had to remove a hard drive bay as well I think but I mean itāll be fine I think.Ā

Upgrade your bios to microcode 0x129 as soon as it's available. Will stop that voltage issue from frying your chip.
Unfortunately if it's already unstable Intel will have to replace it

I built my first PC in 2022. Have had nothing but issues with the CPU (intel 12th gen i7), my GPU fans keep crapping out, and I already feel like the specs my PC is built at is nearing obsolete with how unoptimized games are becoming.

I recently upgraded my GPU from a Rx 580 to a Radeon 6800 and a Ryzen 2600 to a Ryzen7 5700x. I've had these older parts since 2018. The best feeling is when you upgrade two key components and then start running back all the games you wish you could have ran on high to ultra high back in the day

Iām actually glad someone asked. Built my pc in high school (graduated in 2016) and have slowly upgraded parts over the years. For some reason my favourite upgrade has been my NZXT (240?) chassis. I love that thing. Every part has been upgraded as it was a budget build in the beginning. Truly has some sentimental value, had lots of random problems that mostly have been fixed by myself, with the help of friends, this subreddit, and a shop once in a while.
Itās currently dead as of about a month ago and the shop tells me itās probably not worth my time or money to fix it this time. Got a 4th gen i5 I guess is part of that reason.
Itās kind of a bummer, and I donāt know what to do, halfways considering saving up for a prebuilt, halfways considering saving up to have them fix it no matter the cost. Donāt have a spare pc to see if my GPU works (I donāt know whatās wrong with the pc).
Anyways thanks for listening, itās been a helluva ride and if the worse comes to pass, Iād love ideas for some sort of ceremonial āfuneralā.
Absolutely plan on keeping any parts that may be still good.

Normal browsing it hovers around 55-60 then gaming about 70. When all background tasks are closed and computer is sat idle itās still 50+ degrees. Ran a cinebench while having mild OC enabled and it got to 95 then shut down.
It is the redux version Iāve got not sure if that makes a difference, 3 front panel fans 2000rpm and 1 exhaust fan too in a mid tower.
aspiringtobefree@reddit
Btw I'm using i5-12600k (125W TDP) with an ancient Noctua NH-U12 (le original model from the 2000s, it's rated one step worse than the redux), I"m 30-40Ā°C idle, 50-60Ā°C when gaming and hotspot 88 Ā°C (one of the cores bit higher than the others, avg 80ish) when running Cinebench, no overclock.
7800x3D stock TDP is 120W so you should be having similar numbers, Intel is also known to in practice boost to higher than TDP (even 150W).
Street-Drummer638@reddit
Yeah Iām really not sure where the issues lie, tried rehousing it with plenty of thermal paste with a slight reductions in temps but Iām going to compare the numbers when the new cooler comes. If itās not the cooler then Iām unsure haha.
Running a test at base speeds and no programs open, with fans going full rpm the highest temp among cpu die is 40-45 which I donāt think is right?
aspiringtobefree@reddit
Temps seems unusually high. Redux performance should be about the same as the U12S - fan speed and noise level is higher to compensate the other weaknesses. Noctua rates the cooler with "compatible with medium turbo/overclocking headroom" - are you sure the OC is not causing the issue? Also open the case and make sure the fan is speeding up correctly with the load.

I currently have a pc i built 3 years ago that has an i5 12400, asus motherboard and 16gb ddr5 ram and 1tb ssd and a basic case and a old 1070 i took from an old pc given to me by family. It runs nicely 6hut i want to upgrade to a i7 12th gen or a non problematic/low failure rate i5/i7 13th/14th gen cause i already have my 700 series mobo. Why i went intel? I wanted to do productivity and 3 years ago intel was a solid option for that. Also i snagged my mobo with all features i could dream of for only 217 euro and bought all parts with my own hard earned money + birthday money. My i5 runs my vms, Gnu/Linux distro's, compiling tasks, video editing (benefits from intel quicksync), game engines and other productivity programs well! I am just limited by the gpu side of things. I do play games like stray, minecraft, roblox, pygame games, emulators, Indie games but the experience aint really that smooth.
Future plans: i7 12th gen or i5/i7 13/14th gen and ofcourse models that are the least problematic, 32/64gb ram, 2tb ssd + external nas, used 30 series or 4070 or amd radeon, although radeon aint the best cause companies d*ride nvidia and dont implement amd Technologies and optimisations

Mine is nearly a year old now, and I love it. I was a console gamer for many decades, and it's nice being able to play my games at 1440 and a stable 60fps while having nicer looking visuals.
I've never been a person of means and I worked a lot of overtime to ensure what it cost didn't come out of the household budget so to me it's that little bit extra special even if it isn't a high end spec.

Had a power surge almost a month ago while I was at work (I assume also made it home). Once I got home it was off which isnāt new but then I realized it just wouldnāt actually boot. So after like 3-4 days of trouble shooting I assume that something is cooked. I ended up building a whole new rig. I didnāt prep well and forgot I had my backup files on the drive I reinstalled windows on so it was all wiped. Other than that I ran with the Ryzen 7800X3D and using my same 3080 12GB. Thing is bigger, more beautiful and after tinkering maybe a little faster. I honestly havenāt seen much difference from the 5800x I had prior, but Iām pretty sure either my motherboard was cooked or my CPU because everything else seemed fine

7800X3D with a 7900 XT. Complete black build with no RGB. 1440p gaming on ultra settings and high FPS has been mind blowing.

Canāt wait for my free Space Marine 2 on Monday with all these AMD parts I purchased!
nervomelbye@reddit (OP)
i don't rly like RGB to be honest
i think a computer should just be all black or white, no colors
many people like looking at their PC and seeing colors swirling around like a rainbow though
i wonder why
also, PC gaming is nice, but i'm gonna be honest, in the end i would probably prefer gaming on my PS5 using my 43 inch 4k TV
even if my monitors were 4k, the hardware would be very expensive to handle 4k, to the point that it's more economical to just game on a console lol
also, gaming with a controller while you're sitting on a sofa or recliner chair while looking at a TV is the best way to game imo
SlutBuster@reddit
RGB had no appeal to me, so I bought a basic case without windows.
Then I bought a bunch of high-end components, and the MOBO, RAM, cooler and GPU are all lit up like a Christmas tree.
All assembled, it was beautiful. But I wasn't going to buy a new case, and getting a windowed panel for my case isn't possible.
So I closed the panel on my new, shimmering build and now I can only catch little glimpses through the vents of the absolute party going on inside my case.

Cursed2Lurk@reddit
Honestly, itās buggy. 7600x XFX 6800xt W11 and Iām always chasing bugs and crashes. I know I made my own bed tweaking my CPU and GPU, but basic stuff like my PC losing power in sleep mode, fans not working right, fighting AMD Adrenaline and Windows updates which tend to break things, lot of game crashes and problems connecting to my TV secondary display (which is probably the TVs fault) and itās been a janky $2k build. I donāt know if I static shocked it or I just made rookie mistakes, but itās my 3rd PC build and the other two lasted ten years.
It works though, donāt get me wrong. I use it everyday. I just spend more time playing doctor with it than Iād like for a casual gamer and web browser user. Yeah, I can troubleshoot with an internet search, but thatās not my hobby. Mo money mo problems indeed.
I mean, my Macbook Pro, iPhone 13 mini, and Airpods Pro are all buggy POS twice a month at least. Applecare replaced my Airpods 4 times now, factory reset my iPhone twice. I can solve problems but I canāt imagine older people dealing with this shit. The future is buggy.

I built pretty much a brand new pc (besides a few parts from my old build) a few weeks ago, got a 7600x cpu, b650 Mobo, 32GB RAM, 6700xt (from my old build), thermaltake view 270 case, 750w PSU (old build) and a deepcool 360mm aio. Besides my motherboard bios automatically overclocking my cpu making it overheat twice before I figured out what was going, itās been an amazing build.
My old build which had a 5600x cpu, b550 mobo, 16gb ram, some cougar case I donāt know the model of (the other parts were transferred to my new pc) I gave that one to my dad because he wanted a windows pc for some of his music production so all he did was fill out the parts that I took which were the gpu and PSU. It is also a really good pc but I wanted to upgrade to an AM5 socket so I could have that upgrade path if I ever wanted to get a better cpu and honestly, I wish I switched sooner. The only reason why I pulled the trigger on doing it was because Mwave, the company I bought my parts from were doing a bundle deal with the 7600x, mobo and 32GB ddr5 ram for something extremely cheap, like I saved around $200-$250 on those parts. 10/10 would do again

Still Rocking that ryzen 5 2600 + 1650 super combo I build back in 2020. Still runs games smooth at 1080p when people were telling me my build wasn't very "future proof" Lmao. I got no about it. It's gonna make a great dining room CPU when I'm done building the multiple pcs I got planned for next year
Neraxis@reddit
7800x3d + 4070 ti super. 15 years ago I was a wee lad who went to his first lan party seeing all the cool rigs people had. 15 years later I built a great medium high end rig for 2240 usd (after taxes) with monitor and an OS.
My only complaint is my dumb msi ventus 2x oc model can't crank its core clock up without dlss and ray reconstruction on which cuts my performance down by a couple percent. Wattage doesn't want to push much higher than 270 watts.
SchmeckleHoarder@reddit
I enjoy it while Iām naked exclusively

Got a xp build going right now that won't detect usb devices. Just got a replacement cpu in and hope that will be the fix and won't have to have the motherboard worked on.

Mine is back from the deadā¦ I broke a power connector pin on my motherboard, a 6 year old i5 7500 setupā¦ luckily I had a donor 10700 and board from a friends PC that a repair shop misdiagnosed and luckily ended up workingā¦ then my 2070 died a month later. Went against this Reddit common advice and went with 4070 super I paid way too much for (next time Iāll go amd but was pulse purchase, donāt cancel me). Now working greatā¦.
Queuetie42@reddit
It works fine but I find I donāt have much free time to game.
aech1680@reddit
mine is running well, but i fucked up the kryosheet placement on my 7900 xtx and now hotspot temps are all over the place. gonna try some ptm next. also the two edge screws on my backplate don't screw in completely after using the kryosheet which pisses me off. if only ptm7950 was readily available.
pattymcfly@reddit
Almost 5 years onā¦ love it. AM4 GOAT status.
HankThrill69420@reddit
Need a platform upgrade for my ultra wide. Otherwise enjoying 4k
cockandpossiblyballs@reddit
I built mine a few months ago. It has a 6750 XT, 32GB RAM, and 5TB total storage.
It's almost too fast. I mostly play older games on it so I never seem to fully utilize anything. I was upgrading from a potato computer incapable of running anything released after 2012, so I'll just have to buy newer games. It's been very nice to finally be able to play on full resolution, though. I've been playing on 720p or even lower to try and squeeze as many frames as possible out of my old PC.
DrkMaxim@reddit
Mine is just fine, definitely needs an upgrade which I cannot afford to do right now.
Nudzzy@reddit
I've built a few rigs over the last few months but my personal one will always be my favorite, I'm rocking a 7600x and a 7900 GRE and it's so good in 1440p gaming and I'm so happy I built it myself, I love PC building, I wish more people would ask me or commission me for builds, this is the first thing I've felt really passionate about in a long time tbh
guats85@reddit
Loving mine. Have a 7900x and just upgraded to a 850w PSU and a 4080 Super. Talk about beast mode.

4080 build with 3440x1440 monitor. Itās a really stable build and hasnāt been crashing. Probably my easiest and most stable build. Great for gaming.

Fractal North Be Quiet Dark 850watt psu 7950X with a noctua NH-U12A Chromax black Msi Carbon Wifi X670E mobo 32GB G-Skill Neo 6000 mHZ CL 30 4070 Super 12GB 2x 1TB Gen 5 drives 2x 2Tb Gen 4 drives. Fully blacked out with no RGB. Also, 4 of the Lian- Li fans. Super queit running the fan controller software.
This thing is crazy fast and built it for photo editing and occasional gaming. Also have a 34 inch ultrawide Alienware monitor. Great for COH 3 š

I finished my first build in over a decade about a couple of months ago and I absolutely love it.

Honestly, a little bored. I want an upgrade and an excuse to tinker with it.
7800x3d, 32GB ddr5, 2x 2TB 980 Pro drives, PNY 4090.... common next gen!!!

From push of power button to windows 10, only 20 seconds. Not great but not bad either. It can always be faster

Built mine a year or two ago and I still stare at it in awe sometimes.

yeah my rig is over 3 years old now... but the 5900x is a monster of a chip and I've had zero issues so far

Built mine almost exactly a year ago and it's been the best decision yet! I have access to pretty much most games, new and old, got parts that run games pretty damn well, and my personal productivity in life has increased dramatically in this timeframe.
ForsakenRow6751@reddit
Finished build back in december: 7900x 7900xtx 64gb 6000 ddr5, 4tb ssd, fractal torrent case. Use it for UE5 dev, 3D modeling, and some gaming. I hadn't built a pc since 2004ish.
Building it was STRESSFUL but rewarding.
Learning to tune with pbo, core offsets, all that stuff has been really interesting and satisfying.
How are you enjoying your new build?

Waiting for some more powerful hardware to come out. 4090 to me is a bit too weak. Maybe 30% more performance and I dbe happy but that's years to come.

built one in 2021.
i9-10850k 32gb ram had a gtx 1060 6GB in there until i could get an RTX 3070 8GB and have used that since.
Everything about it is fucking amazing except for the fact that i went heavy with RGB (which is not bad) but i went full Corsair unified environment and i have had issues with Corsair's products and iCue. I will never use them again. Ever.
skip-bo@reddit
I'm still rocking an 8700k and 16gb of ram. I also went from a 1080ti to 4070tis on a 1440p monitor. While it was a good upgrade the 1080ti is still one of the greatest cards ever made, it handles that resolution on ultra/high 60fps but now i can hit 144. Yes there was an noticeable upgrade but not as much as I thought there might be.
The 8700k still chooches along well enough not overclocked but I can see myself going to one of the next X3D cpus coming up.
Remster24@reddit
I just upgraded from a crappy laptop with integrated graphics to a 7900 gre and 7600.
The difference is around 20x fps in most games (as well as 1080p to 1440p and low graphics to high/ultra graphics).
Itās absolutely surreal
ApacheAttackChopperQ@reddit
People who said it was a massive waste of money to use a 4090 at 1080p, probably don't play new titles like Wukong at the max settings, or any GPU game at max settings. Quite an enjoyable point of my PC.
Just makes me enjoy my 4090 at 1080p even more.
loliii123@reddit
3770K + 6800XT, all I play are crappy JRPG ports (Atelier series) or Civ 6, does surprisingly OK at 4k60. I literally rescued a waifu GPU from the crypto mines lol.
I'm taking it as far as it'll go...mind you I only use it a few hours per month as my daily is a Mac mini M1.

I have like 20 different windows open, 8 of which have anywhere between 10 and 300 tabs (don't look at me lol).
If this was my gaming laptop, I'm certain it would've exploded with only 3 VSCode windows and cmd prompt open. Even with the ram and ssd upgrades. Never buying another oem/proprietary laptop ever again. I'm keeping my hopes up for custom/upgradable laptops in the future, though.
You've also just reminded me to do a full dusting of my pc too. Can't believe it's been over a year since I built my computer.

I replaced my almost 10 year old build (i7-6700K and GTX970) last month by i9-14900K/RTX4090. I enjoyed the process so much that I decided to upgrade my old PC, so my son could use it. Ended up building another one with R5 7600X and RTX4060. The only component I reused was an SSD.

I bought a 4070 super and for some reason when I installed it my cpu and motherboard died. I put my old motherboard and a 7700k. Itās bottlenecking but still working good enough until I can afford to upgrade.

4 years old. CPU cooking fan was making noise for a bit. Itās stopped now, ofc after I bought a new cooler. (replacement fan was $15 or whole new cooler for $25) and a SSD peaced out.
Easy replacements. The build is great for many things.
BUT.

Uncle Sam just moved me. I put the parts into their original boxes, but those have been scattered to the four winds. My GPU was labeled "Arts & Krafts" and CPU cooler "Toys." Government rate packers leave much to be desired.
I haven't found my coffee pot yet either.Ā
