This is diabolical

Id understand if it was a reusable container but 3 times the price it is at the pump is crazy.

Ancient-Composer7789@reddit
That's why you go to a truck stop with DEF pumps for your diesel.
Crashy1620@reddit
That’s usually what ppl do until the pumps freeze up.
Ancient-Composer7789@reddit
I've seen truckers have spare DEF bottles that they keep the fluid in during winter months when the DEF pumps freeze. They fill the bottles from a DEF pump that us not frozen. I've had to get anti-gel for the diesel tank in Wyoming.
MrRiski@reddit
Old truck I drove had an issue for like 6 months were if the gauge went below half the truck immediately thought the tank was completely empty and derated the motor to like 50% power and 55mph. I ran local and learned it did this 3 hours from our shop. They asked me to drive it back because we didn't know the actual issue at the time. I stopped at the first gas station I saw and bought a jug of def and dumped it in to test my theory. Fixed it right up. Refilled it when I got back to the shop and never left without the jug again til they got the truck fixed. Saved me the one day our def pump died at the shop and I was low. Dumped my spare can in and refilled it the next day. 🤷♂️
lord_nuker@reddit
Yeah, but when the pump freeze up, it is frozen solid in your tank as well. At least over here in Europe. My Scania didn't use def when it reached -7 celsius, so in the winter there is about a month where i dont need to fill it at all.
Crashy1620@reddit
I’ve wondered about that. I haven’t had to deal with a frozen DEF tank on the truck, only frozen pumps.
DocConstantine@reddit
Exactly, I see a few bitch about pickups in the truck lanes, but I’m not paying 3x’s and dealing with that cheap hose attachment
SchlomoSheckelburg@reddit
good thing all that super duper environment saving DEF is put in completely wasteful plastic jugs that everybody just throws in the ditch anyways
Beekatiebee@reddit
Would you rather have some plastic jugs, or acid rain?
DEF was in response to NOx, which was the primary cause of acid rain.
Plus_Piglet5017@reddit
So explain to me how injecting liquified nitrogen fertilizer (which is exactly what DEF is) into a superheated exhaust system is supposed to reduce the amount of nitrous oxide in said exhaust.
SkribbyCakes33@reddit
Urea metabolizes N-compounds.
Plus_Piglet5017@reddit
So nitrogen metabolizes nitrogen compounds? I still don’t understand
SkribbyCakes33@reddit
No. Urea is a nitrogen compound itself. But yes it assists in breaking down other N-compounds. I’m no chemical engineer but it is produced in the metabolism of all mammals and has been widely researched. It’s also very easy to produce urea via simple chemical reactions. That being considered I would say DEF is criminally expensive.
Plus_Piglet5017@reddit
Urea is nitrogen fertilizer. We inject it into the soil when planting corn. Ever seen a pile of DEF jugs alongside a field when they’re planting… it’s not for the equipment lol
SchlomoSheckelburg@reddit
Reducing NOx and getting rid of these wasteful containers can BOTH be done
Beekatiebee@reddit
I don’t disagree! But the containers are easier to deal with and can be disposed of properly.
And the biggest users of DEF in the US are semis, and for the most part we all get it from the pump.
IMO this is one of those “don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough” things. Acid rain was a far far more pressing and damaging situation when these laws were implemented.
And a lot of folks in this thread are opposed to DEF entirely, instead of supporting creating alternatives to using plastic jugs. We should just start adding a DEF line to diesel pumps for 4 wheelers, too. If you need to carry some off, get a gas can like you would for regular fuel.
mmshirley123@reddit
i deleted my cummins and have no regrets. 😂 f the def bs
FarCryptographer4343@reddit
And f pilot. The worst TS in America.
jabber1990@reddit
...worse than TA/Petro?
FarCryptographer4343@reddit
In my opinion, yes.
jabber1990@reddit
not been to that many have you?
FarCryptographer4343@reddit
😆 🤣 😂 😹
potato_farm86@reddit
Whats the best?
zpass97@reddit
Loves are nice but can be small and crowded
FarCryptographer4343@reddit
Not sure, but hate Pilot
CobraWasTaken@reddit
Uhh no. TA/Petro is the worst.
Lavasioux@reddit
Excited to see what sort of long term health problems and birth defects arise later down the line. Oh boy oh boy!
errie_tholluxe@reddit
What? The consequences of our actions to try to help ourselves by screwing up and doing exactly the wrong thing? Now when has that ever happened before?
Moist_Tortoise@reddit
Pfft my great grand pappy smoke 2 boxs cigs every day and lived to a healthy 52 years old 💀
errie_tholluxe@reddit
Damn beat my grandpappy by 25 years
Leader_Confident@reddit
Trucks run better and cheaper on a diet anyway
Extra_Significance81@reddit
Why not reusable? I picked up a discarded jug next to a pump one day, filled it when I filled my tank, and keep it on the truck just in case. I have needed to use it then refilled again at my next fill-up. Never had any problems with this.
Nickeleye715@reddit
We had a driver do this, but he used some that he got a couple years ago that was almost completely crystalized. Had to replace the DEF system. Then he did it again....
Extra_Significance81@reddit
I do use and refill mine every few months. Just for this reason.
AndromedanPrince@reddit
im at a truck stop and its $20 for a 4 piece combo at popeyes. thats diabolical
Mickey10199@reddit
I stopped at the TA in Florence sc last week. Went into the Popeyes to grab some dinner and just left when I saw the prices. Ridiculous
AndromedanPrince@reddit
i was at some Petrol in VA that was basically a whole shopping mall. they had a department store n everything
Naborsx21@reddit
Whites travel center. I love that place
AndromedanPrince@reddit
yea thats the one! i didnt stop until 9:30 and there was still a few spaces. got to be like 400 spots there
Naborsx21@reddit
Haha for sure that's my go to spot when I'm up near there. Way in the back there's always parking kinda like Iowa 80. It's a good time.
AndromedanPrince@reddit
i pulled in head first like a savage 🤣 the staff was awesome. the TA on exit 219 going northbound is also awesome. I ended up at Petrol cuz u cant access the TA southbound.
Mickey10199@reddit
There’s one like that in Kenly nc. Has a huge food court and everything
RevCyberTrucker2@reddit
Well, it IS supposed to feed two people, so $10 a head ain't that bad.
qnod@reddit
I watch for sales and ish and I picked up an 8 piece from Albertsons for $6 the other day but yesterday at Sapp bros it's $3.99/piece
AndromedanPrince@reddit
i bought air fryer/microwave combo and the butch dont work lol i got the broken out the box one. getting a new one when i get back home. i have steaks n hamburgers just staring at me laughing n shit.
qnod@reddit
That legit sucks, hopefully you can get it replaced. Sometimes all you get on the road is life's fucksandwiches
AndromedanPrince@reddit
yea i still got the box gonna return it back to walmart. yup fuck and shit sandwiches is a regular thing lol
wukillabee2744@reddit
Just bought a Ninja Foodie air fryer. So far it's fucking awesome!!
Equivalent_Drawing32@reddit
Hell, my buddy air fries his steak. At home. Too easy, he says.
qnod@reddit
Considering this is a post complaining about the cost of things, I figured the couple times I tried it with steak wouldn't be too applicable. But yes it's super easy, not the best way to have a steak but still pretty great considering it's only 15 minutes in a truck stop parking lot.
AndromedanPrince@reddit
4 piece for 2 people? i eat that by myself and not a fat ass. even still i can feed 2 ppl at food city for $10. 1lb tenders, 1lb, wedges n 2 biscuits.
AreGoingBananas@reddit
Are you better off than you were 4 years ago? Vote with your wallet. "It's the economy stupid."
JimiTrucks1972@reddit
For a jug of piss.
Frenchie1001@reddit
Real g's turn the def off
Telo712@reddit (OP)
Or remove it completely like i did with my truck
Ben325e2@reddit
Any reason you can't re-use the container?
overboost_t88@reddit
Piss Jugman has entered the chat. "With the mega def piss jug you can go 10,000 miles before you need to leave it filled at a random truck stop in Indiana".
TellTaleTimeLord@reddit
As a truck driver and Hoosier, this is fact

As a Hoosier and a truck driver this is the truth
SkribbyCakes33@reddit
But where is the best Hoosier gs sushi?
JoshHatesFun_@reddit
Speedway
WackoMcGoose@reddit
Wouldn't the residue cause chemical burns to your "exhaust pipe"? Or are you using a funnel?
lostthepasswordagain@reddit
I thought it was basically urine anyway?
theberg512@reddit
Concentrated urine (like when you're severely dehydrated) actually burns a bit, due to the higher concentration of urea. Def is urea and water, so it'll burn, too.
Crashy1620@reddit
Yes, I took a DEF shower a few weeks ago, I was burning for 2 days, and I showered after about 15mins of getting soaked.
Fibrosis5O@reddit
Piss Jugman would like a years supply
Gotta pee in bulk
iNaturalSelection@reddit
Comedy
No_Carry_3028@reddit
😆 🤣 😂
Mitch13@reddit
They’re useful at the firehouse because a water can is also 2.5 gallons so we always keep a def jug filled up with water ready to fill the can as needed.
The_one_who_SAABs@reddit
No
wukillabee2744@reddit
Everything at a truck stop is diabolical!! Fucking 3 dollars & change for a little cup of cereal you get at Walmart for $1.
DisciplineGreat3081@reddit
"Sorry, all of our def pumps are down indefinitely."
WhatAMessIveMade@reddit
Why don’t we just piss in the def tank? It’s just urea and water anyways
TylerYax@reddit
Please do it and report back
WhatAMessIveMade@reddit
Don’t got no def system no more
Fibrosis5O@reddit
Who told you!?
WhatAMessIveMade@reddit
Read the ingredients. Deionized water and urea or synthetic urea
lord_nuker@reddit
why not just fill from the pump while you fill diesel?
Cleveland_Grackle@reddit
Some mug will pay it, so they'll charge that for it.
blackfarms@reddit
That's the normal going rate in Ontario.
Dahmer_disciple@reddit
Yeah, me. I’ve got a company card, so I don’t GAF. Last winter when it got insanely cold and a couple of Pilots found out that their pipes and DEF storage tanks were crap, I had to pick up 2 jugs each fill up. And I didn’t feel bad at all.
chakatsilvertail@reddit
i went on a trip to deliver in canada and my DEF doser got stuck open... i want through 30 gallons of DEF to get it back to the yard cause it had frozen partly open
lulzzors@reddit
It’s always been more expensive in the jug than at the pump
StunningPass5040@reddit
Gotta get those 4-wheelers somehow!
TheMetalWolf@reddit
My diesel doesn't have a piss tank. I am only mad VW got caught cheating.
Megalodon7770@reddit
😂 dd 12,7
k20350@reddit
This is like buying pre mix antifreeze. You're buying half a bottle of water
TylerYax@reddit
Actually, you're buying 67.5% of a bottle of water.
Ornery_Ads@reddit
It's just under $9 for a jug at Walmart, that's about $3.60/gallon.
The two truck stops near me are between $4/gal and $5/gal.
What are you guys seeing elsewhere for pricing?
Snookfilet@reddit
Bout the same. Low to mid $4s.
jabber1990@reddit
is this for like diesel pickups?
Comfortable-Survey30@reddit
DEFinitely just blue piss
MostOriginalNameEver@reddit
Someone will get the bright idea to snag one of the thrown away jugs and fill it at the pump
PeterbiltPerson@reddit
That's actually normal price to buy it in a jug.
WhatAMessIveMade@reddit
$7 per at Wally World
