I'll only watch the new series if Flintoff, Harris, and McGuinness do it. Won't be the same without the original three, but I'd still watch it if they had the new three.
ruacoporsomething@reddit
I think the trio with the best chance of succeeding and having a similar feel would be Thomas and James from Throttlehouse and Jason Cammisa
rastlun@reddit
Omg, I was literally thinking this the other day, throttle house has that feel, that chemistry. Give em a bigger budget, and let the magic happen. Love it.
imperial_order66@reddit
The show is over after Clarkson, Hammond, and May leave. Amazon needs to realize that we don't care about some other hosts, just let the show end.
BartholomewKnightIII@reddit
They were the show, how can Amazon not get their head around it.
MargretTatchersParty@reddit
Change Amazon for the BBC and you have the same situation there.
imperial_order66@reddit
It's the same thinking behind Top Gear, executives think it's a formula, not the hosts. Executives think if they continue the formula that the money will continue to come in. Little do they know, it was never about the content, it was ultimately the guys themselves. They really could just do a Conversation Street Podcast and it'd be super popular, but Amazon would never go for that, instead they'll just keep hurling hosts at us until it's truly over.
Own_Carpet6855@reddit
Clarkson did said they got be to unknown
BuzzVibes@reddit
They show is going to continue without them?! No way. I won't watch it, I can't imagine many other die hards will either.
Same with Top Gear. As soon as they left I never watched another episode. I won't watch TGT without them either, they ARE they show.
1llseemyselfout@reddit
I don’t get why people are so against Amazon trying to keep it going. There are very few actual good travel and/or car shows left. I’m all for giving it a try.
statleader13@reddit
I think people probably would just prefer they use a different title. They associate "The Grand Tour" with the current trio and don't want the show's legacy to be ruined if the attempt to continue it went badly. If Amazon launched a new car show with new presenters under a different title I doubt people would object.
1llseemyselfout@reddit
But they have already built up that name. Amazon isn’t going to rename it and have to spend millions advertising a new one. I’m sure when they started it they have had the plans to keep it going once they all retired.
kwakimaki@reddit
I wish they'd just let it go. It wasn't Top Gear without the trio and it won't be The Grand Tour without them either.
Crazy idea, but come up with something new.
UnstableEpithet@reddit
I'm okay with having more shows about three guys traveling places and doing silly things in cars.
Lordgeorge16@reddit
As we've been saying in just about every thread concerning the new presenters, CHM haven't been fired this time. They're leaving on good terms. That means they've likely been involved in the process of finding new hosts and they're making smart choices about it. Does that necessarily mean they're going to be as good as the trio? No. But that doesn't mean they're going to be worse either.
We know literally nothing at this stage. We will continue to know nothing until the new series airs. Stop being a doomer.
MrRGnome@reddit
I believe they've said they have nothing to do with it and no say in the hosts or format, amazon owns the IP.
bigfatfun@reddit
I agree with you. I’ll go further and say the whole grand tour thing was just pretty sad. It never should have happened; but, old, rich white men and their hubris are what has shaped this shit world. Because of that, though, I think TGT could be better with new hosts that aren’t just trying to revive top gear UK. The trio clearly underestimated the BBC staff and their contributions to the success of top gear and TGT just became a flimsy parody.
If you give TGT to a few hosts that aren’t stuck in the past, aren’t trying to relive their glory days, and want to acknowledge where TGT came from but be different…. Well that could be a show worth watching. I would remind you that top gear UK came from the very same place. Top Gear was a sleepy motoring show that Clarkson wanted to change. Let’s see what TGT can be if given to some new, young talent.
maxhaton@reddit
You're down voted but you're basically right. A few of the specials were top quality but the Grand tour was often quite poor
Meior@reddit
You are massively outnumbered on this sub lol.
Ok_Narwhal6262@reddit (OP)
Yeah I know I’d rather them not do anything at all but if there gonna do something more then it’s gotta be decent
Doc891@reddit
nah its gonna be joey from friends again XD
VenZallow@reddit
Nah, Paddy McGuinnes, Chris Harris and Freddie Flintoff.
opticalshadow@reddit
Unlike before, I don't see this as a bad idea, and the fact people are saying Amazon should just give up is silly.
They weren't fired, and they won't be going anywhere else like last time. This is the end for them. Should we just never have another silly car show again?
They perfected a genre, but it doesn't mean they are the only ones allowed to do it.
Bauch_the_bard@reddit
They should get Hammond's daughter, she seems to be starting to follow in her father's interest for cars
w1987g@reddit
If we're going that route, also get Abbie Eaton.
Bauch_the_bard@reddit
In a presenting role or reprising her role as test driver?
Ok_Narwhal6262@reddit (OP)
Yes lad exactly her and Danny ric and then some mothering journalist
Beahner@reddit
I’ve not commented on this as frankly my reaction has been “bad idea”.
But, I’m talking myself into at least checking it out. Something I wouldn’t do on principle with TG after they left. It wasn’t the hosts. It was the brand that I was avoiding.
Waiting to see it confirmed that a lot of the behind the scenes folks will be in place. If so it’s worth seeing what it is. If not, interest is lost.
If they have a lot of the main background folks in place. If those folks have or can decode enough of the chemistry components that worked for the big three for two decades (I’m dubious as even the big three haven’t spoken to more than the broad strokes of what worked, or they’re hiding it). And biggest thing if all….it can’t literally be the exact same show.
All that’s to say that I hope the audition a lot and try to find the best mix. I’ll be paying attention and likely interested to see what it is.
Because it won’t be the show that fired and chased the hero’s away. If it can come out and be its own show….in a world devoid of such shows now….ill give it a go.
CarsPlanesTrains@reddit
It will never ever happen but it'd be amazing if they got the Car Trek guys to do it. They already have the chemistry, the experience and even the sponsors. Just need the Amazon budget. Honestly they should probably just retire the Grand Tour name and just pick up Car Trek. But that's daydreaming
ts737@reddit
I'd be happy to follow it with new presenters if they go back to their roots presenting normal cars for normal people because this is how the trio really contributed to the car culture, less by showing off in stupid expensive one-offs
SidSeadevil@reddit
If the lads are Savile Row quality, then anyone else presenting are likely to be at best Primark knock- offs.
Joephps@reddit
I’m not really interested in another version of the show. It would go the same way as Top Gear
ol-gormsby@reddit
Danny Ric as the new stig - but without the helmet, just that awesome smile.
Wooden-Term-5067@reddit
I’d definitely watch that
Starkiller100@reddit
If they want to continue the show then they need to rebrand it. Don’t associate it with TGT at all.
markhewitt1978@reddit
That's a silly idea. As much as I like Danny Ric he's a racing driver and not a car journalist. The second is the most important factor, you have to know about the market you're talking about.
Part of why the newer presenters of Top Gear never quite worked as with the exception of Harris they weren't experts in the subject.
