What's a bit of modern parenting you just can't get on board with?

Oh lovely, speaking from personal experience that's often the worst way to go about it. Sure it sounds great in theory "oh the bully will get bored and move on" but there's multiple glaring issues. 1. It puts across the message that the bullying victim is to blame and its their fault their being bullied, not the fault of the bully for being a piece of shit. 2. Especially at young ages when we struggle with our emotions, it can be nigh on impossible to just shut ourselves down and pretend it's not bothering us. 3. It encourages us bottling up our emotions, not having healthy ways to deal with the negative emotions that come with being verbally torn apart every single day, because any hint of emotion just defeats the entire point 4. When "just don't react" is the only advice given, despite all attempts not reacting failing or nothing improving, it fosters distrust in authority figures who are meant to help us, and issues come from that. Let me talk about my own experiences. I have diagnosed autism, and I was targeted and constantly bullied throughout all 5 years of my time at secondary school by the exact same people day in and day out. How many times had I reported it to the staff? I lost count. And every single time it was "ignore them, don't react, they will eventually get bored" They never got bored, and I never could not react, because I had barely any control over my emotions, and often times this led to me lashing out at my bullies, for which I was always punished for. Yet nothing ever seemed to stop or deter the bullies. My parents had to get involved constantly, but again nothing would ever change. I couldn't go outside and interact with my peers because I'd get targeted, and the schools solution wasn't to punish the people targeting me, but to keep me cooped up in one room with the other special needs kids, segregated from my peers, often it felt like I was the one being punished. Eventually I stopped telling my parents about it. Eventually I stopped reporting it to the staff, I just bottled it up, ate everything they threw at me, and my mood just kept going down and down and down and down. It led to self harm, suicidal thoughts which I still struggle with today, stunted my social development even more than my autism already had, and I still struggle to talk to my parents about anything pertaining to my personal life, how I'm feeling, things that I struggle with etc etc. When I left secondary school I'd repressed myself so hard in an attempt to stop the bullying, because I thought "it's something wrong with me, so if i stop being me then the bullying will stop", I didn't even know who I was, or what I wanted to do, something I'm slowly beginning to fix. Like, I used to think I was an introvert, because being alone was always infinitely more enjoyable than being around my peers, because I didn't get bullied when I was alone. But I'm not an introvert, I discovered that after my time at school, I love going out, meeting new people and having good times, my empty bank account from one too many nights in the club should attest to that. I know for a fact if I ever have kids, and I find out their being bullied, I would go on a warpath for them, I'd be on their schools arse, and the one thing I'd never tell them to do is "don't show any reaction, they'll loose interest eventually". One final thing. This "advice" doesn't solve the root cause of the issue, the bully themselves. If the advice does work, the bully just moves onto a new target, because people like that don't just stop because their initial target no longer gives them the gratification they so desire, their gonna keep seeking it out. The issue is the bully, not their victim for responding to a distressing event.
