I own a 2018 Ford focus, I will have it paid off this month! It's been a great car so far, it has 55k on it. I've undercoated it each year and made sure to keep up with my oil changes. Is there anything else I can do to keep it going longer?

Everyone hating on the DPS6. One clutch and actuator replacement at 189k miles and now at 218k. It really isn’t that bad. Personal experience of course but everyone around me that has one has had their problems but they also drive like they have a backup car and complain that the trans is shit.

We had them in our rental fleet for years. I experienced the 2013-17 model years.
All of those model years had junk transmissions.
Customers would call in to complain and get a discount but we couldn’t because that’s how ford shipped it.
Generally I enjoyed the focus, but I would never buy one.
Best of luck!!

Yeah... again that's just my concern I paid alot of money for this car and kept it in mint condition. How many km did those rentals have?
Connect_Beginning174@reddit
We sent them to auction around 50k miles, so 80k ish km?
I didn’t have any of them die per se, but shifting between 1 and 2 always had a delay/lag (maybe it was between 2 and 3 gear).

Transmission oil change (not flush, just drain and refill), brake fluid, coolant
Fragrant-Badger6608@reddit
Over 55/75k increase oil change frequency (qtrly) especially if it is turbocharged and switch to full synthetic over 75k and change air filter semiannually.
Also, if you have not done so, change all of your other major fluids such as brake, power steering, transmission, and differential. Perhaps the most important is to make sure you drain, flush and refill your cooling system annually.
Don’t wait till the 100k inspection.

Thanks for the tips! I don't think it has turbo its just a 2018 hatchback se. I've worked really hard to keep it in great condition. Plus I made sure to undercoat it every year, I keep it very clean and I oil change every 4k give or take

That’s awesome. That’s a great little Ford. Sounds like you take good care of your vehicle… Should last a good long time.
I got 330+ thousand miles out of my Chevy suburban and 280,000 of my Dodge Dakota following a similar approach and they were both still pulling hard when I traded them in.

Damn, yeah apparently I have that bad transmission but nothing has happened yet so I'm worried about that part. But other than that it's been fantastic to me

Just drive it chill. Take it easy. It will last a while if you don't beat on it!

Most cats I would agree with you. The transmissions in three cars pretty much have an expiration date. Some people going as far to say they last longer if you drive it like you stole it.
Certain-Travel6322@reddit (OP)
Thanks for the tip! Yeah I don't go right on it

I drive roughly 10,000km a year give or take, I'm proud that I've paid it off as fast as I did I just stress about that damn transmission
walkawaysux@reddit
At around 100k lots of maintenance items come up tuneup brakes save your money and plan ahead
Certain-Travel6322@reddit (OP)
Will do, I'm good with my money
Independent_Time_322@reddit
Assume the dct transmission willl unalive itself around 100k.clutch pack will fry and most ford dealers are 4 months or more out to get it fixed. They are decent cars and fun to drive, but the transmissions are garbage
Certain-Travel6322@reddit (OP)
So I've heard it's my first car and I've worked really hard to pay it off as fast as I did. It's a shame, they had to make such crappy transmissions. I've made sure to take really good care of it too
Independent_Time_322@reddit
It's a bad design. They are made to shift fast etc. However they are considered "maintenance free" if it starts chugging and surging between first and second gear its starting to gernade. Ironically 2018 was the only year thay didn't get a recall

Wow that's crazy aye. The thing is I've taken really good care of this car and made sure to get it undercoated and everything. If I had the skill and knowledge I would swap to the manual. My step dad before he sold his had 131,000 km the only reason he sold it is because he got bores with it
