Anyone else excited for this one? And will it be better than the last time they tried it?

I mean... it would be hard for it to be worse.
Steveseriesofnumbers@reddit
What's it going to be this time? Skeletor identifies as a female skeleton? Having an affair with Beast Man, the furry? Maybe He-Man will be black this time. How are they going to ruin things THIS time?
PeteONeillBassPlayer@reddit
Im just not interested. Maybe in 5 years hollywood will have gotten its shit together.

Her and Skeletor were so freaking good and scary in the movie. If you´ve not seen the behind the scenes/making of... videos, go find it. It´s so crazy the movie even exists.
HappySkullsplitter@reddit
What's even crazier is this same studio tried to make a Spider-Man film in 1986 and they wanted Dolph Lundgren to play the Green Goblin
is_that_optional@reddit
Oh wow, what a mental image lol. I´ll have to look up that story.
RJRoyalRules@reddit
The business is going to destroy itself endlessly chasing Gen X/millennial nostalgia with all of this slop. I feel so bad for younger people who don't get any new stories of their own, just more of the same recursive dogshit for grown men who want to be 10 years old forever.
VaselineHabits@reddit
Studios seem to demand insane profits... so what would help that would be smaller budgets. It's been crazy what they pay to produce and promote a movie and then you see it, and you wonder what the fuck happened?
Everything is tied to an existing IP, even if it just got a slapped on label to try to score nostalgia. Everything just feels so cheap and fake, even when they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars. Sometimes you can tell the actors have even checked out.
RJRoyalRules@reddit
Yeah it's a confluence of major problems. One is that the corporations that run the major studios are now completely risk-averse so it's hard to get anything made that doesn't have "pre-awareness." They don't want to risk any money on anything mid-budget or higher that's not attached to IP.
The other problem is tech sold them on an unproven business model via subscription services, and they got the flawed idea they could launch tons of content on streaming and that the dollars would flow. This replaced the way they'd made money for decades (theatrical releases and/or home video and rentals) instead of maintaining it and updating it.
They're also fucking themselves by pushing theatrical releases to streaming right away, it's training audiences to skip theaters because they know it will be available at home in just a few weeks. They're giving up potential theatrical income just to save themselves some marketing dollars. It's a mess!
brodievonorchard@reddit
They dug their own graves with home video/rentals. Digital copies with DRM that can't be transferred or secured. Oh sorry, that service doesn't exist anymore, so all the money you spent was now wasted. Plus the whole HDDVD/Blu-ray battle. Why would I invest in either, what if the next player I want to buy won't play my old discs?
justforthis2024@reddit
What's sad is that some of this shit could legit be done well if they used the IPs as a simple framework and aside for a fresh story written without trying to appeal to anyone. Just write a fucking good fantasy story and then say "let's make this masters of the universe."
Write an awesome mercenary vs terrorist story and then go "whoops, we meant GI Joe"
But when they - like you say - make it just to... ugh... pander to some aging still-theater-visiting demographic or something I'm just "get off my lawn" at this point.
bitwarrior80@reddit
True, but there are some things I still crave. I would love to see a proper adult rated Resident Evil series that tries to follow the plot of the original. Not whatever that crap was in the 2000s movies.
XFrankXGrimesX@reddit
What I don't get about shit like He-Man is why would I be nostalgic for crass, cynical toy commercials?
I'll think fondly of reading Spider-Man and X-Men comics or watching Scooby-Doo but He-Man, Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats? The Mattel & Mars Bar Quick Energy Chocobot Hour shows can get fucked. Talk about a greasy business.
RJRoyalRules@reddit
It’s deeply cynical but sadly effective for some. I have a friend around my age who just gobbles up whatever nostalgic slop he gets served and desperately tries to get his stepkids into it. Never matters if they like it or not!
He reminds me of my dad, a great guy but a total prisoner of his own pop culture loves who dismissed anything I liked as a kid.
XFrankXGrimesX@reddit
Sometimes I have a couple beers, listen to pop-punk and realize I'm not any younger, regrets have not been erased and no opportunities have been renewed. Saves a lot of time and money.
RJRoyalRules@reddit
A much healthier approach!
TonyNoPants@reddit
Here here. Our culture just seems to recycle itself now. Thundercats the movie, for me, will be the final nail in Hollywood's coffin.
RJRoyalRules@reddit
I don't even mind recycled stuff when it's a cool and unique take, for instance I loved the Star Wars series Andor (and significantly so did my Star Wars-hating significant other). But most of the time it's just "memberberries" as South Park accurately described.
ryannvondoom@reddit
She’s better than meg foster, that is for sure.
yeahyeahiknow2@reddit
Hey as long as they don't shit on the franchise like Kevin Smith did...oh wait, Amazon, ugh
WilliamMcCarty@reddit
Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn and Camilla Mendes as Teela. Huh. I would have seen that completely the other way.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Who enjoyed the She-Ra animated netfliz series?
Vehlin@reddit
I hated the animation style. Same with the new Thundercats. I did like Netflix’s He-Man show tho.
phukerstoned@reddit
Wait your name is Evil-Lyn? I thought it was Evelyn this whole time!
Vehlin@reddit
Subtle it was not.
Geekboxing@reddit
Courtney Cox as the Sorceress please and thank you.
XFrankXGrimesX@reddit
I'm sorry Alison Brie's doing what now?
btw Apparently I'm going to be forever salty about Netflix rescinding GLOW's last season and then blowing nine figures on Jupiter's Legacy.
its_raining_scotch@reddit
GLOW is an amazing show.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Yes we need more Glow!
VaselineHabits@reddit
I'm still alittle pissed they filmed up to 4 episodes before they had to shut down. Was there zero way to just try to tie it up with maybe a few more episodes and end it?
Or even if they switched it to a movie to close everything out. Just frustrating, but I'm equally as upset about Santa Clarita Diet 😅
XFrankXGrimesX@reddit
Wait. What? Really? From what I remember filming hadn't yet started but the non-star cast was already at work or something like that
At the very least it had to have been plotted and a least some scripts in a final draft. It's a bummer none of that "accidentally" leaked
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
I watched the fuck out of GLOW back in the day and I rather enjoyed the series, which is rare for me to like anything on "TV" anymore. Seemed like it did well enough, but Netflix does love to pull the rug out from under a winner to back a loser.
eriksrx@reddit
After watching the original MotU movie, child-me was left wondering "WTF did I just see?"
Fabulous_Engine_7668@reddit
Normally I'd scoff at a He-Man movie, because, I mean, c'mon. Allison Brie is cool though. I think I'm in.
Professional-Way9343@reddit
Not even a little tbh
ApatheistHeretic@reddit
Not excited, but can they really do worse?
love_is_an_action@reddit
I’ve never seen her in anything that she wasn’t excellent in, so this is encouraging.
herseyhawkins33@reddit
Alison brie could get me to watch pretty much anything lol
aerodeck@reddit
Because she is attractive?
Aint-no-preacher@reddit
We try to not sexualize her.

Dolph Lungren as Skeletor OR ELSE
realauthormattjanak@reddit
I'll believe it when it's available to actually watch. Until then, it's just an idea.
sweat-it-all-out@reddit
I'm still not sold on Camila Mendes as Teela. I thought she would have made a better Evil-Lyn. I like Alison Brie though. The real question is who will be the sorceress!!
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Here me out:
Emma Stone
Though I'd love her as Teela too
Apprehensive_Hat8986@reddit
Ok, full disclosure: I'd love Emma Stone as friggin' Orko if it got her screen time. 😅
esocharis@reddit
Gillian Jacobs better be She-Ra then lol
SelinaKyleYoureFired@reddit
You can't get any better than the last time
GSM_Biker@reddit
Call them lazy if you want, Call them cancel-happy if you must, but Amazon have been knocking it out of the park with adaptations lately.
I’ll give it a chance.
Cross_22@reddit
I remember watching the last one in the theater. Can't be worse than that.
