I use one of these for my work truck. The extra mileage will definitely make a difference. I usually don’t have a problem with range, but when winter rolls around, that’s when logistics becomes an issue.
PestEm85@reddit
Couldn’t agree more, I own one in Oklahoma. When it’s cold here the range is awful
fiddlythingsATX@reddit
Glad to hear it, but WOW that article is oddly written.

hate the trend of just using an ICE hull for an EV, so uninteresting and ugly. EV allows you to change the form factor of cars. I like new startups that make interesting and practical looking cars.

Vans are gonna be fuckin boxes no matter what, it's the point
HeavyCanuck@reddit
It's a work van. Fleets like having an already existing supply of commonly used and broken parts much more than they like having pretty looking vans.
Yankee831@reddit
Yeah but cars are the way they are for a lot of other reasons. And it actually makes a ton of financial sense. Some of the hypothetical benefits are not really as beneficial when insurance, repair, maintenance, learning curve for mechanics are taken into consideration.

I still don't get why they didn't put the maverick hybrid or escape hybrid motor in the transit connect I think those things would've sold so good
hifidood@reddit
They are going to bring back the Transit Connect sized vans using the Maverick platform to do so. Seems like a no brainer having vans for businesses that drive in the city (perfect for hybrids) and get 40+ mpg
devereux619@reddit
Oh really I didn't know that. That's awesome I thought they were discontinuing the connect vans.
Drzhivago138@reddit
They have in the US for now. And all the other small cargo vans.
Shmokesshweed@reddit
It's coming...
TechnoTrain@reddit
They were shipping these with 68kWh batteries? Even the Lightning's small battery is 98kWh lol. The only thing surprising about this increase is that the battery was ever that small to begin with.
an_actual_lawyer@reddit
Batteries are a huge part of the cost of an EV, so it makes sense when you want to make the math work for businesses.

I am sure Ford were talking to their customers. A work van is a very different use case than a family car. As long as it have the range to do its job, it will do. Worrying about road trips is pointless.
You are a plumber servicing a small town, your van needs the range to drive you around within the town and not run out of batteries within the day. We are probably talking about under 100 miles for the day.
MassMindRape@reddit
That would be cutting it close for a lot of tradesman. And you'd be really cycling the battery every day.
an_actual_lawyer@reddit
Charging to capacity is pretty standard.
Two_Shekels@reddit
Winnebago even made a camper version of one of those lol, it was absolutely comical how short the range was
Yankee831@reddit
I’m just waiting for the power post version…my perfect vehicle…

Ford is by far the most well run american car manufacturer.
Which doesn't say much but it is what it is.
komrobert@reddit
Honestly seems like a pretty decent deal under 50K. Good for them!
