I'm in DEBT and Have Stuff In Collections

I have student loans and about $20k in collections / credit card debt.
I also don't have a perfect driving record, but no DUI or anything. Just some past tickets and accident or two. Nothing within the last 3 years.
I don't have any criminal history and I don't do drugs.
Would I be able to be hired by a company that will pay for my CDL?

I recently got a ticket doing 86 in a 65 and i still have job so far I told safety about it and they just told me to pay it and slow down but you got a better chance than me of getting hired somewhere else since you got a couple years of safe driving even though all I’ve ever had on my record is this recent ticket

That's reassuring! My last speeding ticket was June 2019.
I looked into my accident, which was actually in July of 2021. The ticket I received with it was failure to keep in proper lane. But I had a lawyer fight it and it was reduced to "Basic rules" which is a non moving violation and does not affect driving record in Georgia. It results in non-reporting, no record and no points.
The ticket before that was a speeding ticket in June 2019 in Michigan. I believe i didn't fight this one and just ended up paying it. I'm not 100% sure.
I don't have any DUIs or anything like that.
Now I do have a question, the accident, since the ticket that came with it resulted in non-reporting.... does that mean I don't have to disclose it while applying to these companies? Or will the accident still show up on my record?

The only way to know is to apply.
And they really only pull your record from the last 3 years. They may ask questions related to the last 5 years.
If they have an issue regarding something in the record, they would just deny the application.
List of paid CDL training companies:
Veriha DOT (dti) PRIME Wilson logistics Roehl Scheneider Stevens transport
And if you want to get it paid by the government instead you would try the WIOA grant. You have to find large people who deal with that in your area.
A lot of schools also offer cash student payment plans with $300-700 down (at least in Illinois).
Companies will generally reimburse the cost of school on your paycheck over a set period of time if you get it on your own.

I'm doing the Prime application right now.

Not to discourage you but understand that any company that will pay for your CDL will also pay you next to nothing for the first year while you pay them back so I don't know what that does to your financial situation but it's more than a year before you have an opportunity to get ahead. Even companies that don't pay for your CDL usually don't start you out at a high pay until you have experience to prove you are a safe and reliable driver.

Truthfully, I'm earning absolutely nothing right now. I don't have any kids and no wife. I will take anything stable at this point.

Not all companies do this though My company (flatbed) pays 56cpm at start, which isnt a lot but a hell of a lot more than other companies I see advertising 40cpm after graduating from their cdl school

Were you at fault in the accident? What exactly were the tickets for? This is important.
Subject_Bike_147@reddit (OP)
My last accident was in 2020, which I was also cited a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions" but hired a lawyer to fight it in court and we won.
The last ticket before that was probably 2017 or before that. Speeding ticket.
My last accident before the most recent one was like 15 years ago. Which I was at fault for.
12InchPickle@reddit
What was the 2020 ticket reduced to and I assume at fault?
Same for 2017. Was it reduced to ?
Subject_Bike_147@reddit (OP)
Honestly, I'm not sure what they were reduced to. I need to get a transcript of my driving record.
I was just trying to get an idea of if I would be hired by ANY company at all, whether I get a CDL on my own or through a company.
12InchPickle@reddit
I only asked those questions because employers are going to ask you or look at them and if they’re not reduced to something else. Likely pass on you.

Okay thanks! I'll get my driving record and see what's up with it.

Go to your county's workforce/employment building and talk to them. A lot of counties have grants to pay for trade education and will cover the total cost of trucking school
There's certain hardship requirements with some counties/states to get it though (homeless, unemployed, under the poverty line, single parent, etc.)
If your student loans are govt loans that might disqualify you though
Outside of this i'm sure you could find a mega that will train you but you have to sign a contract saying you'll work for them for x amount of time, usually 1-2 years, or you'll have to pay them back

Thanks for this!!!
