What to do about an unfair parking fine?

I parked in a car park that was 70p for half an hour, £1.20 for an hour. I paid £1.20 and was only in the car park for 40 minutes. Received a notification of a fine of £60 for overstaying. I still had the ticket issued by the machine that proved that I hadn't overstayed, so I appealed. The result is...ok you didn't overstay... But you incorrectly entered your registration, so your paid parking ticket was invalid, so just pay £ 20 and we'll call it quits. I can't appeal to them, I have to appeal to another body, BUT, if im unsuccessful the charges will increase to £100. What should I do. I want to tell them to jog on and appeal anyway. Any advice?

As I say to my children, "Education costs money" - in this instance, it's £20. Learn your car registration number - you'll need it more often than you realise.

You’re out of luck if you put the wrong reg in. £20 now is much better than £100 when you lose an appeal which you almost certainly would as they would hide behind their T&C’s. I’m surprised they have even offered you to settle at 20

There’s actually a legal basis for appeals in circumstances where you enter your registration incorrectly by mistake. I believe there is an allowance for getting it wrong by one character so as long as that is the case you should win your appeal, if not go through the ombudsman who should take your side in the case

I've only dealt with a parking fine company once. Complete bell ends they were. They had shit signage but still, it was my fault. If I could have paid 20 quid quickly to make it go away, I would have, instead of the days of back-and-forth akin to headbutting a brick wall. Take the small hit and move on.

If you did enter your reg incorrectly then it’s 100% your fault I’m afraid, the onus is on you to get that bit correct.
