Can't adjust screen brightness on my new build.

Around the holidays I build a new system. The high points, in this case, are a RTX-2080Ti and a Acer Predator X27 bmiphzx 27" 4K UHD monitor. I can't say enough good things about how gorgeous gaming is (Far Cry 5 looks jaw drop gorgeous). The monitor is hooked to the PC with a displayport cable (I bought a 15' Amazon Basics one).
The issue is, I can't adjust brightness. I'm running Windows 10, and if I look @ display settings, for this monitor, HDR & WCG is turned on. It seems with that on, I can't change the screen brightness through Windows. OK, so let's try the monitor's OSD. It seems that on the OSD those 2 options are currently greyed out.
Generally it hasn't been an issue, but there are times when I'm tired that the stellar brightness is just too much for me when looking at a screen with a lot of white (say, Facebook).
The other factor which makes me think something isn't quite right is that if I try to use the windows snipping tool, anything I snip has completely blown out color, like someone has cranked the brightness up wayyyyyyyyyyy too high.
Help? Suggestions? I will be happy to provide any further info. I've done searches and it seems others have had similar issues (with other hardware) but I never saw any real solution.

Turn off HDR when you're not playing games or watching movies. The windows desktop experience with HDR sucks because none of the applications you would typically use know about WCG or HDR.
It'll be another couple of years before it all settles down.

My monitor does not allow me to turn off hdr

Try turn off in Windows.

how many more years do I have to wait?
QuintonTsai@reddit
try the windows HDR calibration app on microsoft store
pretty much solved the issue for me

I feel your pain. Just got a new monitor and I'm now wondering who the fuck would ever want to use HDR if you can't even adjust the brightness or seamlessly switch between SDR and HDR. Absolute bullshit.
Dynatamoite@reddit
It isn't totally seamless due to the black screen flash, but Windows+Alt+B toggles hdr on and off if that's useful for you at all.

even after all these years, its the same case huh ?

Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous how bad HDR still is.
